Holy smokes clay, you got more accomplished in 2.5 hours than most people do in 2 days lol. Cut down two trees, bucked em, made a bough bed and got a grouse for dinner!! Yesssirrrr 🤘🤘🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
Great video! glad you got yourself a grouse you made that look easy, hope you used the Montreal seasoning for that meal. Love the idea of using an already downed tree for the base of the Siberian log fire
Out chasing wolves a few years back over by where you was bow hunting whitetail by the meadow my electrical caught on fire on my snowmobile, made it through the night with a set-up much like this. Great video and nice shot on that grouse! Great content
Now that was a fun video .. snow, no tent, and hunting your own food! It's great to watch you when I just can't get away to go bushcrafting myself. Thanks for sharing your adventure!
Clay, love your videos and learned much on archery from and you got me back into learning. An axe is not a club. It is a precision cutting tool. one cuts up the tree from the bottom of the tree. Saves the blade and reduces effort. Also have a small axe and medium axe when carrying a saw.. Just 45 years experience and still learning. :)
Merino shemaugh👍👍! I bought 4 of them before North x North closed the doors, one of my most prized pieces of kit! Vargo BOT, titanium special forces shovel are just a few of my other faves. Another informative video Clay, thanks.
If a guy went and done this sort of thing often he would seriously appreciate the simplest things of life like warmth and where his food comes from. Great video ! Some excellent shots!
Excellent, all of it! Some things notable to me were the disposable lighter and air mattress. Because though you could make a mountain of pine boughs and use flint/steel doesn’t mean you have to all the time. Those kind of “hacks” are metaphorical in many aspects.
Nice shot on the grouse and a healthy batch of breakfast sausage! Now get back home to Liz and the boys. Maybe knock the dust of the beard trimmers when you get home! Lol Great job all around on this video. Thanks for sharing
Clay Hayes you sir are a mad man . those trees were huge. Thank for showng what a sibirian fire is. And all of the other hunting tips you show. I love this shit
Mr Clay I know you go out and test these things for yourself but I'm sure you realize all the things you're teaching us and inspiring us to do. For me personally it lights a fire under my ass to go try lots of things. I'm here in west Central Florida so no snow or anything but still lots of these ideas and things can absolutely be used here too. Merry Christmas sir to you and the family 🤘🙏🎄🎄🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
Had the bow set up at a pro shop. It performed just fine ruclips.net/user/postUgkxQEKUoxLWwayEDZR0NKB-5limn4MBU-2L . And I would say this is a good starting now that I could pass down to my son when he is older. But the package was missing the release and a nock was missing from one arrow.Dealing with customer support was terrible. They suggested I buy a new release rather than correct their own quality control issue because it’s to expensive for the. to ship it out from China.Update: manufacturer got back to me and resolved the issue. I retract the above statement.
Thanks for another great video Clay! You should consider cowboy coffee if you want to pack light. I prefer that to instant. All you need is coffee grounds and a pot.
Congratulations Clay and family. I just watched your season. Thank you for your great attitude and example. Glad to see a fellow Idaho boy win. We are almost neighbors. We live in the hills above Orofino. Keep up the great work
Beautiful footage. Loved the drone and wildlife shots and you reading the tracks. The campfire blazing and the stars travelling. And those sausages 🤤Unfortunately, NorthxNorth is closed now.
Something to consider: Practice "follow through" after the shot. What I mean, is likened to bowling when you follow through with the arm after the release. With shooting, the "follow through" is visual discipline to maintain sights, or crosshair, on target AFTER the shot and recoil. If the rifle muzzle bucks right, left or up, the alignment of sights at trigger release was not perfect. My council is to be conscious to see the shot as two parts; the shot itself 1. sight alignment at trigger pull 2. and where your muzzle goes after the recoil. The trick is to maintain or keep your sight on the target after recoil. If so, this means the muzzle is driven straight back. Which means your shot is perfect. Of course you can not hold absolute perfect, having recoil, but keep as on target as close as possible. I practiced this after analyzing video (view over rear shoulder) I could see the barrel twist. I could study the difference between good vs perfect shots, and which direction the muzzle kicks. On perfect shots, I could see in slow motion, and determined myself to focus on the disciple to keep that form after the shot. ..... Some say practice freehand with an empty casing. Have someone load you gun and you shoot. [He] loads one round.....but you do not know whether it is live or a blank. Video the shot. If you see movement on a blank shot....you have work to do to avoid flinching, by anticipating the recoil. This practice, of visual follow, through has yielded bountifully. It has saved a lot of needless grief, tracking and packing. I force myself to focus on the second part of the. shot. It's in the millisecond......that's what the season can come down to. Do not lapse at that moment. .......... From central Alberta Canada 🇨🇦.....
Those Siberian log fires provides with a ton of warmth.. Have been testing it out before.. Super warm and burns for a lifetime :) Love your content brother!
Hey clay, a whole back I saw you talking about your clothes for Alone and asked if anyone knew of a good merino shemagh, well I found one. Weather Wool, small family owned company out of New Jersey makes some with an amazing merino wool, they also make some super high quality jackets
I love all your videos but for some one like me I would love it even more if you made a small travel size book on all your survival techniques and bow making so I could carry it with me and read it over and over again so I could retain the knowledge better I would buy the book in a heart beat and I'm sure many others would too you have a wealth of knowledge thanks for your videos.
Great video Clay, VERY well put together.. I mean whole nother level better than anyone else I have watched.. (and I follow a lot.) The cinematography and music were amazing. Well done! As far as the "Siberian fire" went, I was impressed with the simplicity, duration and effectiveness. I wonder, have you tried the automatic long lasting fire technique where they build two ramps angled downward to the fire and stack logs where they will automatically roll down, feeding the fire as the previous one burns away? I think I have seen someone try it with good results. Anyways thanks for sharing.
Love your video awesome of you to share all of your skills. Just wondering what happened to the mushroom, they would have been delicious cooked up with the sausages 😋. Ive only watched 3 videos and already learned so much. Thanks for taking the time to share your great adventures with everyone.
Looks pretty warm out, no frost on your beard. Not criticizing, just observing. No gloves. And mat and sleeping bag close to a fire, my bf would never let me get away with that!! Lucky no sparks landed on the mat or bag, heh? Looks like fun!!
I recommend having some fingerless wool gloves for winter work requiring dexterity like this. Mittens fit over top and you almost never have to take them off
Your cinematography is getting really good. Great video. I enjoyed it. Would you do a video in the size comparison between a grouse and a chicken if similar size?
Good job on that grouse Clay. Simmer those sausages in shallow water till mostly cooked then take the lid and brown them w/o liquid on that. I make them real sausages real well cooked golden color.
I make my own coffee bags (just like a tea bag) .... it works great and one doesn't have to "suffer" with instant.... Merry Christmas to the Hays clan.
I wonder if you put twice as many logs on if it would burn as long. Hotter for sure but perhaps it would use up the wood quicker? with the extra heat. Minimal firewood processing as well. Most of my fires are long fires where the whole tree is slowly pushed into the coal bed but it requires constant adjustment which isn't a bad thing. small trees too.
Correctly made it is "rakovalkea", just two logs on top of each other. You have to have some support for the top log so it doesn't fall down while it is burning. Rakovalkea burns about one hour for each thickness inch of logs. Logs for rakovalkea need to be preferably "kelo" logs, which means they are dead pine trees which have been standing for decades and dried. Tree itself is hundreds of years old. Because these kind of trees are not so common any more (and are also valuable construction material) it is quite rare to have an opportunity to make a rakovalkea
I got 2 partridge(as we commonly call them here in maine) with my bow this fall. I don't say this to imply I am anywhere near your level. Just took the opportunity while deer hunting. Some of my favorite eating. Woodcock as well
That was a great video (again). Siberian log fire is new for me even tough I live next to the Russian border in Finland. We traditionsly use Finnish/Scandinavian Gap fire.
Although I don’t care for Starbucks as a company, their instant coffee is a step above the others. Most instant coffee has been brewed, then dehydrated, so you’re drinking the second brew 👎🏼. The Starbucks instant (which looks like what you were drinking) is just roasted beans ground very fine into a powder, and you just dump it in. That’s my go to for the outdoors.
This guys self filming skills are top level, some of the best outdoor content youll find on youtube
No doubt! 👍
Agreed 👍👍👍
it's because he was on alone and got trained
Very very good filming.. check out #fowlersmakeryandmischief
He is from Maine where I live and he won season 3 of the show alone
That's why he was nominated to be on Alone😂
Holy smokes clay, you got more accomplished in 2.5 hours than most people do in 2 days lol. Cut down two trees, bucked em, made a bough bed and got a grouse for dinner!! Yesssirrrr 🤘🤘🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
🏹🐦😉
And filmed it !
12:13 I really like that technique for making kindling, with the stationary knife. Never seen anyone do it that way before but it's genius
your just a bit thick
The amount of work to put a quality video like this together is extensive. Thank you.
Finally a true survivalist ...live off what you catch...no Walmart steaks here !!!!! This is how it's done ..Fantastic vid ..cheers 😁
Many thanks
Great video! glad you got yourself a grouse you made that look easy, hope you used the Montreal seasoning for that meal. Love the idea of using an already downed tree for the base of the Siberian log fire
It's just like being there, as you don't do a lot of silly narration. Actions speak louder than words. Great video
Out chasing wolves a few years back over by where you was bow hunting whitetail by the meadow my electrical caught on fire on my snowmobile, made it through the night with a set-up much like this. Great video and nice shot on that grouse! Great content
I appreciate you for repping the Backcountry Hunters and Anglers mug. Solid choice!
You made that catch and cook look to easy. Some mad skills brother. Thanks for sharing 🤠
Clay you are the real deal, and an inspiration.
No kidding! Clay is doing it like hearty people did 150 years ago and back.
@@stevedriscoll2539 Everyone was hearty 150 years ago! No snowflakes.
Thanks!
You bet!
Now that was a fun video .. snow, no tent, and hunting your own food! It's great to watch you when I just can't get away to go bushcrafting myself. Thanks for sharing your adventure!
quite the cinematic production with all the piano and nature shots, really nice
Love you Clay! You changed my life bro! Thanks for showing the upcoming generation what they truly need to know to survive possible hard times.
Clay, love your videos and learned much on archery from and you got me back into learning. An axe is not a club. It is a precision cutting tool.

Hello my brother, I live in a tropical country, I think I would never get used to so much snow, congratulations brother

This just a really really cool video😎. Nothing like sleeping under the stars, even in the snow.
Clay Hayes you sir are a mad man . those trees were huge. Thank for showng what a sibirian fire is. And all of the other hunting tips you show. I love this shit
Thanks Michael

Thanks Brian, there’s always cool stuff to learn and try. Just gotta get out there.
I'm with ya @Brian Z, what better time than now.
What better place than all of West Central Florida's places.
I see you added a drone to your camera equipment. It really adds to your video.👍

Just finished eating about 20 minutes ago. Started watching your video and damned if I ain’t hungry again. Thanks for the entertainment!
🤣✌
Thank you for this amazing video! I can't wait for the winter to come again and be back in the mountains.
I really enjoyed the video Thanks Mark
The cammo on those clothes is probably one of the best i've seen in over a decade!
Thanks for another great video Clay! You should consider cowboy coffee if you want to pack light. I prefer that to instant. All you need is coffee grounds and a pot.
Really excellent piano, very pleasant and fits the camera images.
The background is cold, but the video warms my heart as i wach, Wood fire food is love .....Thumbs up...:-)
3:18 “Achhh!” The moment you touched that tree I felt the cold on my neck :D was so funny to hear youuu give the Achh in my stead ;)
🥶
Congratulations Clay and family. I just watched your season. Thank you for your great attitude and example. Glad to see a fellow Idaho boy win. We are almost neighbors. We live in the hills above Orofino. Keep up the great work
Thanks Bruce
Beautiful footage. Loved the drone and wildlife shots and you reading the tracks. The campfire blazing and the stars travelling. And those sausages 🤤Unfortunately, NorthxNorth is closed now.
Speaking from experience here. That silky Katanaboy 650 is NO JOKE of a saw! pulling it through a tree trunk is hard work!
Please do more of these hunting and camping videos 👍
Thanks for bringing us along! I enjoyed the trip. Hope you & the family had a great Thanksgiving!
This is a beautiful video. One of my faves.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nothing like the woods in winter.
one of my favorites for the past while, thank you!
Thank you for an outstanding video-this is definitely a skill worth learning.

Awesome video Clay. Pretty informative thanks for sharing brother.
Great video Clay! I'm actually making a osage self bow from your how to videos, its going great! Appreciate it!
Since you have been experimenting with types of fire recently, you might want to try a Rakovalkea next (Finnish log fire)
You are a brute! Thanks for the video and inspiration
I enjoyed the panio music backround that is a nice touch.
Love your video awesome of you to share all of your skills. Just wondering what happened to the mushroom, they would have been delicious cooked up with the sausages 😋. Ive only watched 3 videos and already learned so much. Thanks for taking the time to share your great adventures with everyone.

Nice! I would have enjoyed more footage of the grouse cooking
Came here after seeing you on Xander’s video. Subscribed ✅
Love the content Clay! Keep up the good work!!
Love the overnights in the snow.
Your cinematography is getting really good. Great video. I enjoyed it. Would you do a video in the size comparison between a grouse and a chicken if similar size?
Incredibly cool! I don't think I could do that even though I love bushcraft and wild outdoor adventures.
I’m with you on that. I love all forms of hunting, fishing, camping but I’m sure not tough enough for this.
Oh yes, love this type of content!
Id be lucky to have started a fire..
This man is KING !!!
Great job Clay! Thanks for sharing the information!
Nice Video and a lot accomplished in those 2.5h daylight left. Liked the fire very much.
Weekend Stuff
Great video, nice to see you out on an overnight in the woods.
Awesome Video Clay !

This GUY!!! 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
Music is enchanting.
Awesome video and nice touch with the drone. So cool to see the evolution of your videos, always getting better.
Great filming! How do you keep your go pro batteries alive in the cold? Up here in Alaska I get 10 minutes tops. Thanks!
PS. ITS BEAUTIFUL.....GREAT MUSIC ADDED
Really enjoy your videos. Aeropress press is good for “fresh” coffee and its easy to carry.
Awesome video.
Love it👍
Nice of you to bring enough sausage for the film crew 😉

I am surprised that you just don’t make cowboy coffee. Easy and excellent when made right. Love the vids.
Thank you for the video!
That was AWESOME!!
If it wasn’t you - I do apologize sir lol - nice videos for sure !!
Very nice! Simple and efficient!
Awesome...reminds me of my younger days...u could have used the sled as a shovel but our feet work well too lol
Is there going to be deer camp this year I love the elk hunting and deer hunting u break down that it's hunting not killing
