Yeah starting is the most important step, and Hunters ED is the best place to start, learn how to hunt safely and then start with something small that you can hunt close to home, if you need a place to hunt look for public hunting land near you and start with that. I would suggest just getting out in the woods and try to hunt something small and work you way up from there

The realest hunting expedition on youtube. Being a hunter myself it requires days and days of tracking the game. Finding it and again loosing the one shot i had because I messed up by stepping on dried leafs causing an instant reaction of run for ur life advantage for the wild game. Another opportunity missed. And unlike other youtubers who edit/remove the tough tracking part and only show parts trying to make hunting look damn easy. Which by the way it is not. My man here is the realest 💯 That's true hunting, he perfectly portrayed the real deal i.e, patience and persistence of a true hunter. Much love. Desert bulls are hard to get . I love hunting Oregon Whitetail for the last 35 years with muzzleloaders I built , my wife got her biggest buck yet last year. Keep trying before you know it age will catch with you so keep makern smoke.👍
Great job getting that ELK. THAT was so FUNNY when you loaded the tabagon and it when sliding doun the hill and crashed. Then you loaded it back up pushed it again but this time YOU had a great ride down with your prize. Oh hell yeah the feeling you had I'm sure was so satisfying when you got back to the truck with the elk. Great job
Great job on putting together a cold weather hunt for elk. The conditions were nasty but as hunters you can adapt. After missing your first chance you showed that you can't give up. You keep on hunting and then you patiently waited for the perfect shot and were rewarded with a great tasting elk. Congratulations on your hard earned elk.
Absolutely amazing video when you crept over the ridge and the elk were right there, I actually ducked down in my chair.Lol For years that is how I muzzle loader hunted deer in Western Iowa hill country albeit a different scale. Wait for the coldest windiest snowiest day, find a ridge, glass ,walk, creep up and look over the ridge and repeat. That's when you know you're living your best life.
Great video. I have had a tough go of it lately, and this video has been a very welcome distraction from the shit storm. You don't know how nice this video has been.
That flintlock is a beautiful piece of history. Such an amazing hunt with a sled ride down the mountain at the end! I'm going to take a sled when I have the chance to go out.
Buddy you're a hell of a hunter and yall are top tier at cinematography on top of that. Freezing to death doing long stalks in mountainous terrain and still taking the time to set up good shots is well beyond my level of patience. Good work buddy
Coincidentally I just revisited muzzle loading. Our locale has an extended season on white tails. I have retired next to a park with an abundance . 8 years ago sold my modern ML, 209 .50 cal. I thought if I was going to ML, I would go full traditional. The modern ML I had was essentially a single shot rifle accurate to as far as your sights are set for, and Killed 2 moose with it. My buddy had a good quality ML kit he received as a gift 40 years ago, an had just assembled it. I inquired. It was beautiful, some one made him a cash offer he couldn’t refused so I missed it. Would preferred a good quality traditional kit and do myself..but I picked up an original 1845 .45 cal. Halfstock percussion for the same price that my friend sold his reproduction. I’m just going to be extra careful with the original which is a disadvantage. Really enjoy your video’s.
@@clayhayeshunter I had no idea who you were and that you were famous, I don’t watch TV. I will watch it now that the history channel has that alone show. I watched a clip where you commented About eating rabbit heads. In the sixties, I moved to happy valley goose bay. I was 8. I befriended a Cree boy my age named Montgomery, he invited me to eat at his..place. He offered me the rabbit head out of the pot on the stove, I declined. He said it was the best part, and proceeded to show me how to suck the tastiest parts out of the head. Never look a gift rabbit head in the eye ! I’m not sure I would have dealt with the fisher the way you did. 6 years ago an encounter with a large fisher whilst deer hunting. It was actively hunting mid morning , and when it saw me it came directly towards me from 75 yards away, and started up the tree I was in. I was full blaze orange. I had the safety off when it paused halfway up the ladder and approaching the muzzle. I was talking loudly,aggressively..It turned and took off after a pine squirrel sounding alarm. It was a wtf moment that nearly ended badly for one of us depending on my aim. If the camp you were in was your lawful domicile, then the law allows you to protect your “house”. I don’t think you can actively go and hunt it, but defending your domicile is different. I’d never encourage dispatching nuisance critters, and mostly find another solution.
Daymmmm. I'm exhausted just watching this hunt. That's brutal, but I bet you have a feeling of reward most of us will never experience. Well done sir. I'm impressed.

My man here is the realest 💯
That's true hunting, he perfectly portrayed the real deal i.e, patience and persistence of a true hunter.
Much love. My first time here and I'm learning and enjoying every experience you are sharing.

This by far is one of the best hunting video that I have ever watched.
Four ruffians break into my house….
What the devil I grab my powdered wig and Kentucky rifle
That landscape is so breathtakingly stunning to see.
What an incredible hunt. Great video.
Those elk are something to hunt so aware of their world, so fun to hunt. Good job.
Such a cool video.
I found your channel recently after picking up traditional archery. You’ve been an invaluable resource my friend.
If your ever interested in doing a back country Blacktail hunt in CA, let us know!
Thanks much
Thanks!
You bet!
Sem palavras. Só quem já apertou o gatilho sabe o quanto é difícil . Parabéns!

Thank you
I love how you're showing the younger generations of how hunting really was back in the golden days we go out elk hunting every year in Colorado
Great content Clay, thanks for sharing the adventures
Many thanks
Everything about this video is life goals. So glad I found this channel
parents describing their dayly comute to school
By far the best elk hunting video I've ever seen. Elk are where you find them!
Just as the founding fathers intended
I appreciate a guy who actually works for what he getts I have a 286 6 point in the Oregon record book I took with a 58 I built around a barrel found in a pinion pine it was from a builder in Utica New York who had a shop from 1830- 1840 loaded with a ball and 80 grains one shot at 40 yards. Desert bulls are hard to get . I love hunting Oregon Whitetail for the last 35 years with muzzleloaders I built , my wife got her biggest buck yet last year. Keep trying before you know it age will catch with you so keep makern smoke.👍
this is a milton rifle from northwind btw!111!!1!
❤❤
A fantastic shot, full of elements of excellence and control. You've left everyone in awe!
Now THAT'S how you get an elk out of the field ...... great stalk and hunt .... Congratulations,, well earned ....
The cinematography of this video is masterful. Bravo!
Love it! Love Blackpowder, too!
Thanks for sharing, and Good Shootin, Clay!
Steve
Thanks Steve
Epic opening scene. The good life. Thank you for the inspiration.
Great video. I have had a tough go of it lately, and this video has been a very welcome distraction from the shit storm. You don't know how nice this video has been.
Glad to help
By far, Clay, you are my absolute favorite contestant ever to be featured on Alone.
Best hunting video I’ve seen in 15 years. Awesome brother, thank you.
Thanks 🙏
That flintlock is a beautiful piece of history. Such an amazing hunt with a sled ride down the mountain at the end! I'm going to take a sled when I have the chance to go out.
Buddy you're a hell of a hunter and yall are top tier at cinematography on top of that. Freezing to death doing long stalks in mountainous terrain and still taking the time to set up good shots is well beyond my level of patience. Good work buddy
Woohoo, what a ride at the end! Kudos to the cinematographer. Fantastic video, thanks for taking us along.
i am so HAPPY to see a man with a flinter!!!!!!
Would preferred a good quality traditional kit and do myself..but
I picked up an original 1845 .45 cal. Halfstock percussion for the same price that my friend sold his reproduction. I’m just going to be extra careful with the original which is a disadvantage. Really enjoy your video’s.
Thank ya
The heart and tongue are a couple of my favorite cuts. You cooked it right on the fire, had my mouth watering.
So good
Daymmmm. I'm exhausted just watching this hunt. That's brutal, but I bet you have a feeling of reward most of us will never experience.
Well done sir. I'm impressed.
This is by far the most epic hunting video I've ever seen. God bless you sirs 🙏
Iv watched 10’s of thousands of hunting videos … And you sir are a complete badass!! Awesome watch!!
😜thanks much
Clay you make the best hunting videos, meat doesn't get any fresher than that!
I can appreciate long range shots, but there aint nothin’ like getting in close. This is hunting. Awesome
Absolutely remarkable! Your approach to elk hunting with a flintlock rifle and subsequent catch and cook is truly commendable. It reflects a deep connection to nature and traditional hunting methods, highlighting your respect for the environment and wildlife. Your skill, patience, and dedication in the hunt, as well as in preparing and cooking the game, are admirable. It's inspiring to see you embrace the challenges and rewards of hunting in such a traditional and respectful manner. Congratulations on such a meaningful and authentic hunting experience!
And I am Floating Village Life.
I would have to say this is one of my favorite videos youve done. Great job!
Amazing patience shows how much an experience hunter looks like.
Elk hunting, wall tent, wood stove and a bottle of Pendleton for the end of the day. Perfect
Thanks for inviting us!! Great hunt!
That was awesome..great job.. people just can't realize what an accomplishment that was..I got a Pa black bear with my long rifle a few weeks ago..all the time I spent building it from scratch produced a genuine proud moment when I walked up to that downed bruin...only went 50yrds with a round ball..never tried a connicle..gonna try it..thx brother
Living the dream ❤
Wow, that's real hunting!! Amazing and enlightening!! Thanks for the great video!
Throughly enjoyed this ride, first time I’ve ever seen you hunt with anything other than a bow…lot of fun for me!
this is one of my favorite vids you have ever done .. thanks for the great work
Glad you like it
Hell of a hunt!!! Props to you.
Been on a few elk hunts and even shot a 5x5 with a in line open site.50 cal Thompson.
But it was nothing like you did.
I'm impressed!
Especially coming from a fellow Hayes!!!
Great job for the great hunt and there's no greater joy when the hunt comes together and all the hard work pay off and all the great meat that comes with it and you can't go to the supermarket and buy this great meat great job clay for sharing your experience and keep up the great hunts in the future.
Thanks 👍
Awesome Clay. I had my flintlock out last year in my secret spot. A nice mule deer buck bedded down by the pond out of range. that was in the early season and warm waited all day and he got up and walked over toward your place. hunting in the cold and fog separates the men and boys.
Those old muley bucks are fun!
