Me too... awesome video. Just a question. The rifle you use in this video has a rifled barrel ? I'm asking because it seams the same rifle you have used in other videos hunting for elk.
That's got to be one of the best fall turkey hunts on RUclips, period. Absolutely incredible to have both eagles and coyotes hunting the same birds you were after. Congrats on the nice tom!
I missed a nice gobbler at 10 yards over by Devils Tower in 1996… I watch the grass and dirt fly up 8” left shooting my old Marlin Goose gun… the wad just flew by his head. I build my own custom flintlocks and the .62 cal I just made has a 38” rifled Colerain Barrel… now I wish I would have made a Fowler. You have a beautiful rifle and whoever made it, did an awesome job. Great hunt and thank you for bringing back the basics.
Really enjoying the flintlock hunts! It looks like its time to do an up close video of your flintlocks... loading, cleaning, maintenance, furniture discussion, keeping them dry, Etc... Then on to all the accouterments needed as well as casting buck, ball,& shot, patches, wadding, lube, & powder. Thanks for the video...
I'm recovering from a hunting injury back in October. Lost my footing and fell off a cliff. Fractured my skull, broke my left leg, and right foot. Still got a couple month of recovery, but as soon as I can I'm gonna get out and try to take a hog with my home built (not a kit) .54 flintlock!
I love muzzleloading hunting and to watch you do these hunts are the best. Looking forward to you taking Xander out and teaching him the ropes of hunting. Keeps our hunting and fishing traditions alive. thanks for the great videos.
That's why I, as a real hunter, go hunting naked. And the only gear I have is a wooden spear and a hollowed out gourde for a water source. I've been banned from 6 national parks.
Greetings from southern B.C., just north of the Idaho panhandle. For a while, we had an eagle that hunted turkeys almost exclusively, and the turkeys would run to the barbwire fence knowing he couldn't dive/fly through it. I haven't hunted turkey in several years, but when I did, I only had one that wasn't fall off the bone tender. Our yearly bag limit is now 3 turkeys, 1 in spring and 2 in fall.
A couple years ago I noticed a large flock of turkeys feeding in a corn field. When I got close they all started flying like the devil was comeing. They all dive bombed and scrabbled into the brushy hedgerow just before the road. That's when I noticed the bald eagle doing a straffing run at the birds. Wasn't their first rodeo. I think he struck out that run.
Seems to me the 🦃 won that 1rst round! So what do you mean by, not fair? If you haven't actually hunted turkey before. Give it a whirl and then tell me me how fair ya think it is.
What a hunt! Just watched the elk hunt and impressed! I'm 81 and from Michigan so that type of a hunt in the mountains is definitely out my league. Just whitetails and squrrel for me. I use a .50 cap and ball for deer and a .32 for small game. Wish you had given more info on your firearm!!! Well done on both hunts and video. I'll be watching for more!
That very well may be the best turkey hunt video I’ve ever seen!! That would have been a wild experience. And what a wonderful way to make the most of it. Incredible
Awesome video you are a true outdoorsman and I love the traditional Content my uncle Dave won season 2 Alone so congratulations on your win on season 8!
Just finished reading your bowyers book, great information, recommend it. Jelous of your flintlock, never got into it but it fits the country you hunt nicely.
Liked the fact that you use almost no camo on most of your hunts, just natural colors. Thinking of hunting this way myself. What brand is the jacket and where did you get it?
Two things I love most! Flintlocks and selfbows. We musta been brothers in a past life lol. And yeah, skeet shootings probably the hardest thing in the world with a flintlock.
That was awesome!!!! Love the flinter videos!!! Haha I’ve been there where I’ve shot something 10 yards away and somehow the shot pattern evaded the game haha! The pup wanted to help out so bad!
Ooof that was tense. Im living vicariously through you! Congratulations on the stunning bird 🦃 Allways wondered what they was like eating but it looked superb! Full tail waggins from the doggo there 😄
Clay you are the Man! I would happily beg at your dinner table for what ever scraps you threw to me. Can't wait to see more of your flint lock vids, keep your powder dry Brother!
god bless you Clay. Fall turkey is not easy I have been trying myself with my bow and have only had one opportunity in the hardwood bottoms this season. Fall Turkey is almost harder than fall deer.
Clay love your show your one of the go getting hunters on TV I squirrel hunt with rifle and shot gun muzzle loaders if you would get some extended range wads and split them a little at a time can make it shoot lot father out just a tip keep up what your doing your awesome
that's the best weapon to use for hunting in a survival situation Mr.Hayes... you can make your own ammo and gunpowder... good idea to keep a few of them aside... if you need to defend yourself against armed bipods, and that's not enough, you can then use something modern... you'll have their guns and ammo anyway!...
Ive got a CCR 12 gauge FL fowler in 12 gauge and still looking for the right load and have had the gun for over 7 years and its a remarkable weapon and with my work schedule I don't get to Turkey hunt with it as Id like and its been a few years. Still looking for my first bird with it. Great video.
First of all you're very inspiring, I love your videos, especially the flintlock episodes. Question; Where did you get that pullover ? It looks well made and warm. Thanks
I had turkeys in my back yard just about everyday up until turkey season then they just disappeared. I was going to take one with my .25 air rifle but never got the chance. Great video Clay always enjoy them.
After watching your hunt for elk it made me pick up a flintlock of my own. though i know I've got a lot learn, I'm looking forward to hunting with it in the future.
Hi Clay, watching you from Ireland, this was fascinating, we dont have wild Turkeys here in Ireland so this type of hunting is new to me, also the use of a Flintlock thats pretty cool, we have bird hunting here but its usually phesents or woodcock, we call it rough shooting over dogs they flush the birds from cover to be shot with modern shotguns, like upland hunting you guys have in the states. The use of Flintlock or any form of muzzel loading guns is prohibited over here, but modern guns are allowed..... I know its weird. Such are the rules. But intresting too see you in action all the same. The Turkey looked delicious at the end of the video. With the surname Hayes you must have some Irish heritage im guessing.
What an exciting hunt! These muzzleloader videos are making me wanna dust off my percussion cap rifle. Super cool to see how close the birds got without any fancy camo!
I went turkey hunting with an 1878 Remington 10 gauge a couple years back. Walking in to my spot I found two toms right off the trail at about 10-12 yards and somehow missed. I patterned it, practiced, loaded my own ammo, everything I could've done to be successful, and still missed. I felt your frustration on that first shot big time
Congrats Clay; that's a very nice bird! I kinda wonder about that lock time though-might think about carrying a priming horn with 4F. I know it cut my lock time about in half on both my flintguns. For sure it makes loading a little bit longer, but my results were very rewarding.
Loving the flintlock videos!
More to come!
Fantastic, how old is the flintlock?
Me too... awesome video. Just a question. The rifle you use in this video has a rifled barrel ? I'm asking because it seams the same rifle you have used in other videos hunting for elk.
Different gun. Remember his rifled gun has a strapped handle as it was cracking, the one in this video, is whole.
Let’s all take a moment to appreciate the effort that goes into self filming these videos. Fantastic work.
Amazing actually…
That was such a cool hunt brother, you don't see a lot of hunters using the old flint lock anymore, great hunt
Try Pennsylvania. Loads of us here still using them, considering we have a dedicated season.
i wonder why....
@Tubdyy-ns9bn kes
@Tubdyy-ns9bn?
Maybe the high concentration of Amish?
By God! That's a butt load of turkeys! That's every hunters wet dream. Awesome vid!
That's got to be one of the best fall turkey hunts on RUclips, period. Absolutely incredible to have both eagles and coyotes hunting the same birds you were after. Congrats on the nice tom!
Wow! What a hunt! Turkeys, eagles, and coyotes! Thank you for sharing your successes and failures. I appreciate you keeping it real.
I missed a nice gobbler at 10 yards over by Devils Tower in 1996… I watch the grass and dirt fly up 8” left shooting my old Marlin Goose gun… the wad just flew by his head.

Thanks for the video...
I agree. This would be great. Between your elk videos and this one, I'm starting to think I need a new hobby (pronounced: obsession!)
I’ll probably do that next fall
I'm recovering from a hunting injury back in October. Lost my footing and fell off a cliff. Fractured my skull, broke my left leg, and right foot. Still got a couple month of recovery, but as soon as I can I'm gonna get out and try to take a hog with my home built (not a kit) .54 flintlock!
Sorry to hear that but I bet you’ll be back out there soon. Good luck when the time comes!
Stay strong buddy.
I love muzzleloading hunting and to watch you do these hunts are the best. Looking forward to you taking Xander out and teaching him the ropes of hunting. Keeps our hunting and fishing traditions alive. thanks for the great videos.
Turkey hunts are always super fun... Awesome vid! Thanks!
I think the Flintlock videos are, by far, my favorite. Great content, Clay.
Awesome hunt clay! Incredible footage of that eagle dive bombing the flock. I definitely need more flint lock turkey hunt videos in the future! 🦃
i love any hunting video where the hunter isnt wearing 2 grand in clothing.
500 boots, 200 pants, 300 sweater, probably 300 underwear. It adds up quick
That's why I, as a real hunter, go hunting naked. And the only gear I have is a wooden spear and a hollowed out gourde for a water source. I've been banned from 6 national parks.
That sweater is only $154.95
😂😂😂@@thelostcosmonaut5555
Have you seen the price of a good wool shirt?
Thank you for sharing an exciting and beautiful hunt, a great recipe, and your lovely family with us. Blessings, friend.
Excellent work Clay!! Always feels like I’m along with ya!
Thank you for the post. Very interesting as much as Irish people are.
Передаю большой привет от российских охотников!😊 Спасибо за отличный видеоролик, очень интересная охота!👍 Удачи в будущей охоте!🤝
Thank you
Thank you and a happy new year to you and yours Clay
Longbows & flintlocks... nothin better! 👍
Way to get it done with the flintlock! Old school.

Love the Flintlock videos.
Glad to hear it!
I appreciate he's using a flintlock. Makes it a fair fight
I don't think man Vs turkey is ever a fair fight haha
It really isn’t a fair fight, would be if he was using a rock, a sling shot, a bow or a spear, but even though it’s a flintlock, doesn’t make it fair.
@@thefatraptor4424 True, but it's fairer than a shotgun.
@@leonl9123 everything is more fair than a shotgun, or any fire arm in that matter
Seems to me the 🦃 won that 1rst round! So what do you mean by, not fair?
If you haven't actually hunted turkey before. Give it a whirl and then tell me me how fair ya think it is.
Flintlock for turkey who does that?? Clay Hayes that’s who!🔥 🔥

Someone always wants a piece of a turkey! Great hunt!
Such a hunt is worthy of respect!
Fantastic!!! I needed this today!!! Thank you for sharing
That very well may be the best turkey hunt video I’ve ever seen!! That would have been a wild experience. And what a wonderful way to make the most of it. Incredible
Real movie made by one person! Nice to see the frontier atmosphere like Jack London's books)
Those birds are a lot more tolerant then our Pennsylvania ones.... great hunt!
Hornet paper nests work great for wadding! I grew up with flintlocks I love the videos
You're a class act and an example for us all. Thank you.
Mi amigo con este excelente video se ganó un subscriptor
Great outing, thanks as always for sharing.
Action packed morning, for sure. Well played, Clay.
Hard to beat that hunt. Congratulations!!
Awesome video you are a true outdoorsman and I love the traditional Content my uncle Dave won season 2 Alone so congratulations on your win on season 8!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and keep your videos coming.
Thanks, will do!
Good video my friend. Love to Turkey hunt ( along with everything else you can hunt ) THANK YOU FRANK FROM MONTANA.....
Heck of a shot with the smokepole!!
Thanks Clay, great film 👍🇬🇧
Im glad you showed the loading process for the gun
Enjoyed watching, thank you for sharing.
Once again great video once again showing even the best hunter can miss Congratulations on the bird
Thank you so much 👍
Excellent hunt Clay. Being pushed by eagles and coyotes definitely worked in our favour. The slow cooked turkey looked delicious.
Thanks
Nate
Yes it was
Great video l really enjoy the old school hunting
Just finished reading your bowyers book, great information, recommend it. Jelous of your flintlock, never got into it but it fits the country you hunt nicely.
Awesome, thank you!
Great video !
That was an awesome video! I'm so glad I recently found your channel!
This was badass!
Those are some amazingly patient birds. TN turkeys take off at the snap of a twig much less the blast of a flintlock lol
Enjoy your videos as a hunter only one that really is accurate about the effort required .
Great video. Thanks
Great video as always. Nice to see you invited Noel Gallagher to try the turkey at the end 😉
Nice work clay
Liked the fact that you use almost no camo on most of your hunts, just natural colors. Thinking of hunting this way myself. What brand is the jacket and where did you get it?
Asbell wool i think
Pretty new to your channel and not seen you hunt with a flint lock, but im impressed in the patience that took.
I’m sure glad you finally got something. It’s gets hard watching you hunt so hard and then miss. LOL
Fantastic work 👏
Good Luck to u & ur family🎉

I shouldn't watch these videos when I haven't eaten for several hours. Lol. Looked like destiny was smiling down on You that day Bud. Awesome vid.
Interesting to watch. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it

Clay you are the Man! I would happily beg at your dinner table for what ever scraps you threw to me. Can't wait to see more of your flint lock vids, keep your powder dry Brother!
Very interesting and inspiring video!
Happy new year Clay
You too
Very interesting video. I wish we had wild Turkey to hunt in australia. Thanks for sharing
Cheers mate.
god bless you Clay. Fall turkey is not easy I have been trying myself with my bow and have only had one opportunity in the hardwood bottoms this season. Fall Turkey is almost harder than fall deer.

That’s badass, been a weird year we are just now getting snow
Great video. I was hoping you would connect on the second shot. Didn't want to see that jinx following you around from the elk hunt.
🤞
Thanks clay

Absolutely epic, wow! 😎💚
Very nice.
Self film was never easy . Congrats 👏
