Hi Xander. I am very gratefull for your videos. In 2020 I lost my dad in a car accident and my mon was very injured, she needed an emergency surgery and stayed in ICU for about a month. To entertain her during our lost, we started to see your videos. We really enjoy your trips and we're fascinated with Canada landscapes. Its such a beatifull country. We also love when you eat your enourmos steaks. I hope someday I can bring her to Canada to meet a moose (although they're not particularly friendly) Greetings from Brazil. Gabriel and Daniela Froes. Happy hollidays to you
Man i love watching how your videos evolve through the seasons, there is not a single video you've put out in 3 years that i haven't thoroughly enjoyed, my favourite youtuber by far, thanks for the inspiration from Ryan, North wales! Your content has truly changed my life, and has pushed me through my struggles and gotten me comfortable with the great outdoors
What do you mean thanks for the inspiration from Ryan? If you mind me asking, what struggles have you gotten through? So it may help others. And how are you comfortable with the great outdoors? What does this mean?
This looks like an amazing setup for at least 2 campers - having 2 people could probably mean that you can sleep longer and being sure that more people is looking after the fire - also, 30 degrees inside, while it is -10 outside that is an insane difference - one can only imagine how cozy, like super cozy, this would get with a matress, a blanket and a pillow, after almost a whole day of gathering firewood this must be an amazing experience, and considering the simplicity of the setup, I cannot help but feel like the knowledge of this shelter could save a lot of good souls out in the cold.
Xander and Luke from “outdoor boys” are like the same person. Just pure wholesome vibes spent in picturesque landscapes doing cool nature shit. I wanna see them do a video together!

My brother-in-law camped like this with a hammock. Tarp on the backside and visqueen down the front. Used binder clips to close it all up. VERY toasty no matter how cold. He would say he could camp very comfortably in any kind of weather except high wind. "Wind changes everything" he said. RIP Dare-babe
This is a classical double nodia. Very common in Urals and Siberia. To impress efficiency of this fire you need to use another one big log in front of two logs. To increase warm isolation on the ground you need to made a log bed and put your sticks on it. It also improves total comfort of your sheltered night..
You could also light a second fire where you plan to set up the shelter more early in the day and when readto build the shelter just move the fire to the final location. The groun beneath your shelter will then be very warm to sleep upon. It helps to bring a large animal fur with the leather on one side to put ontop of the pine bows.
I love your short adventures where you challenge your outdoor skills. What a cool set up, amazing how warm it was. Love your bannock sausages. Look forward to more adventuring Xander
Xander just wanted to reach out and say that you are our favourite RUclipsr, me and my kids watch your videos whilst 'wild' camping in our living room. Hope you're doing good man and keep the awesome content coming 👊🎄
Supershelters are super cool :) I think the idea is the transparent side doesn't let the infrared light through once the other wavelengths warm the inside. That almost looked like a Finnish rakovalkea fire lay. They're pretty neato too. A 50C difference is insane! Thanks for bringing us along
Hi Xander, another quality video..... thanks for all your efforts, the videos are great to watch. Its bid highlight when you post another new upload. All the Best from Steve in the UK 🇬🇧 👍
I get so addicted to these videos. Just watching how you try new things, learn, make mistakes, and keeping good spirits. I get completely calm and peaceful watching you blend with nature, using her with respect and the meals you make for yourself (that part is always the funniest). Keep 'm coming!
Hi Xander , that looked like a very cozy shelter, quite the fire that kept you warm and toasty, happy and impressed with the set up, your pancakes 🥞🥞looks yummy 😋😋, starting to really enjoy watching winter camping , you make it look very adventurous, thank you for sharing and bringing us all along, can’t wait for the next one 😊😊 Merry Christmas 🎄
Hey Xander, love your videos, you should try heating up rocks in the fire and bury them below your “tent” to heat up the ground. I’ve seen another RUclipsr do that and I’m curious to see if you find it effective
As usual another amazing video. You are in a class of your own man. I so enjoy your ideas and honesty as to how things turned out. Safe travels and lol ing forward to your next outing
Hey, Xander! My boyfriend and I, have been watching your videos for like over a year now. We're from the Philippines. We love your cinematography since we aspire to be one. Great video I like the super shelters for emergencies simple to set up and work well! Really laughed when you did the recap of the falling tree your a funny dude! We’ll done
I love your videos man! They always put me in a calm mood, and I have this strong desire to go camping after watching them. Thanks for showing us cool things like that

Absolutely amazing video. I'm in Ottawa and the snow has mostly melted but watching your videos has me almost wanting to go myself but in the meanwhile I'll enjoy your experience through very enjoyable editing and humor. PS. I love that you put in an old clip of a tree fall and did temp check with and without drop sheet. Great work!
I’ve seen other folks making these, and have been carrying a saw, hatchet, drop cloth and emergency blanket in my winter emergency car kit, just in case. It also has a fire starter set, a mirror, a full change of warm clothes, a bunch of slim Jim’s that I cycle out every two weeks and three bottles of water. After finding a cheap one at a garage sale, I added a sleeping bag. I started this kit after I was almost stranded on the wrong end of the freeway while camping just prior to the Northridge earthquake. The kit takes up one plastic crate in my trunk, so totally doable, and it really gives me peace of mind. It takes up about the same amount of space as the car emergency kit I got from Costco years ago, which I also highly recommend.
Likewise. In my truck I keep one of those big plastic tub things with the snap on lid, with plastic drop sheet, a couple of the mylar blankets, paracord, fire starting supplies, etc. just in case I'm ever stuck out in a cold weather situation and need to do something like this. And of course there's a saw and a axe in the truck as well.
Pretty cool to see you put some survival theories into application. I know it’s totally different experience when you’re out there all by yourself vs people like us watching this from the comfort of our home. For those wanna get into this it takes at least 5 times camping alone to get used to the feeling. I was scared the first time, couldn’t sleep, body feel sticky. Autumn or cool climate is the best time for beginner to get a few trips in. Xander considered as expert the way he’s comfortable in these situations, maybe there are also emergency contact he can reach which is importance to have prepared and arrange a head of time with your friend or family, everyday if you don’t call in, they will come and find you.
Hello Xander, I am following you from Jordan in the Middle East. I do not speak English, so I had to use Google. What is this content, man? It is really amazing. I really love watching your videos. Thank you for this content, keep it up 🤍
Awesome night out Xander. That super shelter is a game changer in a winter survival situation. Kelly Halton, one of More' top students, developed the Harlton Hacienda. Takes the super shelter to the next level. They also recommend a raised bed in the winter. Gets you away from the cold ground. Nate
This was so cool , excellent adventure plus I admire your creativity and skill plus honesty, please do more of the same and throw in some rainy day / night videos 👍🖖⛺️🏕️
‘Slide them under your bed’ infers there’s a gap between the bed and the floor, which is also useful to make sure the ground doesn’t draw all the heat from you. But yeah ‘uh 🤓☝️ actually, put dirt on them and lie on top of them, would also work, good job
Hey Xander lots of from India. I Have a suggestion that could you please show us your journey from your home to the woods or forest. you are doing great work keep it up🤗🤗🤗😍
you act and sound exactly like a juvenile and just attempted to make another terrible joke. No one's thinking about juveniles, you just happen to act exactly like an annoying, obnoxious, queer juvenile that's been created by the Biden administration.
appreciate the 4K...of all the outdoor adventures, your's rank near the top...simple...concise...GREAT fire...simple foods...great techniques...well done.
First saw that shelter on Dual Survival and have always wanted to try it. Your experience was similar to Dave and Cody's so that shelter is a real revelation. Someday, here in the Colorado Rockies, I too will sweat and freeze under the vizqueen/mylar miracle shelter! Happy New Year X!
Super Shelter with Long Fire appears to be the answer to Winter Camping without a Tent. BTW you can build the shelter bigger to accommodate more people. That way the fire can be stoked in shifts and each person can have longer stints of sleep. Great video.
I was really waiting to become snowy in Canada. Just watched some old videos from you yesterday. I love this style of content, walking in the woods, collecting a ridiculous huge amount of wood, have some food (also too much) and enjoy. I would just say for me, the season has started again. :)) Oh yeah, last weekend i also had an outdoor trip. Filmed it for the first time, hopefully it will be a good vid as yours.
Another fantastic watch.i love how u always make ur meals so delicious.ca.ping in that cold extreme weather and managing to stay warm pure e tertainment .👍
You are so great 👍🏻 Thanks for yet a fantastic video. Have you considered to make a video where you challenge is to get as comfortable as possible in very cold weather with very few things. Maybe create a hottub and/or create a small room using plastic wrap around 4 poles to create a sauna where you bring in stones heated up by a fireplace and then pour on some water. Regards Thomas from Denmark
Hey Xander. Love your channel! Your advice certainly came in handy this past weekend when I got stranded on a remote trail in northern Ontario. It took much longer than I anticipated ( turns out I hiked 20k+ over uneven terrain with snow/ice conditions) and it got very dark before I made it back to where I parked. ( yeah I am a dumbass) I was not able to follow the trail markers ( not very well marked I might add) and ended up having to call OPP! They sent search and rescue guys to get me out since I only had basic gear and no headlamp ( l left at 11am) Live and learn! - they were calling for freezing rain. Fortunately I had a lighter on me and was able to get a decent fire started thanks to your techniques! Everything was damp so I built a good base of dry wood on the cold wet ground, used dry low hanging dead limbs off trees and standing dead trees ( with their tops!) small enough to tip over. I was able to get enough birch bark to get the fire started and keep me warm until rescue guys arrived two hours later. All thanks to your your advice my man! The officers were even impressed with the fire. haha! Two of the four fantastic OPP/search and rescue officers ended up having to commandeer two canoes!! in order to get us all back to the main road - which saved and save us an hour of difficult hiking. They had to break through huge swaths of ice with the paddles in order to make it to us. What a crazy crazy night! You can't get any more Canadian than that, eh? Being saved by the OPP in canoes. (Canadian Heritage Moment) Bad decisions make for good stories as they say! Haha! Your calm demeanor in challenging situations and sage advice stuck with me and helped me immensely. I owe you a debt of gratitude. Cheers! Anthony
If you make a aluminum foil reflector on back side of fire your heat increases dramatically, I typically use green sticks about 3 ft long and make it curved
I'm from the south (Galveston, tx.) Where forty degrees is hurting cold to the bone... I find it hilarious how he says it was pretty toasty at forty degrees... TNX 4 VID LOL
I find it amusing that you use a celsius temp scale, so it's in not -10F but +14F. That's still cold but the 24 degree difference is huge when it comes to being able to allow skin exposure.
the greenhouse effect! since you are creating a vapour barrier, some people use an old cotton sheet inside the barrier roof to soak up condensation as well.
Man that’s awesome, my friends family is from Canada. (Netherlands originally) Me and him need to head up there and do some camping. We’re from Louisiana so we do plenty of our own, snow is pretty much never involved though lol.
Nicely done! Last year I did a similar Mors Kochanski setup but fire was too small and NO bow-bed underneath me…it was a tad chilly haha but survivable.
Keep up the videos Xander, from Saskatchewan and your channel inspired me and my buddy to go camp in the wild with no tent in the winter, always look forward to watching your videos
Hi Xander, just subscribed having seen you with Clay on the Elk hunt. I’m looking forward to checking your previous content. 🇬🇧 Wow the temperature difference is amazing.
Great video never tried this type of shelter before that was some good fire wood your definitely the first person I've seen doing that type of sausage on a stick atvb Jimmy 😎😎👍👍
A fine video of one of the most impressive and safe Campfires I have ever seen and I have built thousands. Very interesting video to watch. Looking forward to future adventures. Stay safe.
I've used the super shelter a couple of times. They are highly efficient. Got to really be careful or you can slow roast your azz in one. Enjoyed this Xander
I live in Honolulu, can no longer stand the cold, but I love what you do and the niche you carved for yourself, but I think you'd love Ke'anae Peninsula none the less.

No, none of that’s necessary that is just unnecessary work.
It's really unbelievable that with only a piece of plastic sheet and a heat reflecting mat, the "room" temperature can rise that high. GENIUS.

doesn’t work long term, you’ll be hot for a few minuets. Then the rocks will cool down.
Not exactly necessary with the type of structure he created, he’ll be plenty warm in that setup. Just ask Cody Lundin

you act and sound exactly like a juvenile and just attempted to make another terrible joke. No one's thinking about juveniles, you just happen to act exactly like an annoying, obnoxious, queer juvenile that's been created by the Biden administration.
Cool video. I’ve been wanting to do one of these solo winter camping trips. Thanks for passing on the knowledge, best tool in the pack.
Who votes for an outdoor camping festival with Xander??
appreciate the 4K...of all the outdoor adventures, your's rank near the top...simple...concise...GREAT fire...simple foods...great techniques...well done.
I haven't watched these videos in awhile but I really do like them. You cook some great meals. I love the outdoors. Stay safe
Oh yeah, last weekend i also had an outdoor trip. Filmed it for the first time, hopefully it will be a good vid as yours.
Another fantastic watch.i love how u always make ur meals so delicious.ca.ping in that cold extreme weather and managing to stay warm pure e tertainment .👍
You are so great 👍🏻
Thanks for yet a fantastic video.
Great Video Xander....Glad you're having fun with this, 'cause WE sure are !......Good job in the cold there !......OnWard......
You're making decent fires. Not childish mini-fires. I like your videos!👊🤝
Xander very interesting video….loved the idea. Good seeing you and looking forward to your next adventure. God bless you! 😊
Excellent anti-cold set up for such wild camping ❤😂🎉❤😂🎉
(Canadian Heritage Moment)
Bad decisions make for good stories as they say! Haha!
Your calm demeanor in challenging situations and sage advice stuck with me and helped me immensely. I owe you a debt of gratitude.
Cheers!
Anthony
Ur awesome funny and creative keep it up nice to see ur comment on Jon and Erins wedding 😊❤from Michigan
Always great to see you out in the wild!
Looking forward to your next winter camping adventure 😊.
I love the smell of fresh balsom in the morning cheers mate!!!Nothin but good camping 🏕️ times XB Out!!!…
I find it amusing that you use a celsius temp scale, so it's in not -10F but +14F. That's still cold but the 24 degree difference is huge when it comes to being able to allow skin exposure.
It’s so chilling to watch you’re videos, please keep making these❤
the greenhouse effect! since you are creating a vapour barrier, some people use an old cotton sheet inside the barrier roof to soak up condensation as well.
I watch so much junk every day. But not this. This is soul food. Thank you, Mr Budnick.
Yet another amazing video. Loving the positive vibes. 👊🏻👍🏻
Man that’s awesome, my friends family is from Canada. (Netherlands originally) Me and him need to head up there and do some camping. We’re from Louisiana so we do plenty of our own, snow is pretty much never involved though lol.
So impressive Xander! Love the “corn” dogs too 😉👊🏻
Nicely done! Last year I did a similar Mors Kochanski setup but fire was too small and NO bow-bed underneath me…it was a tad chilly haha but survivable.
The pictures are are awesome and crisp..so radiant...love Canadian snowy wilderness...
Stay safe.
Campfire “corndogs” are a classic here in Scandinavia 😍You could make the dough in the plasticbag and your hands wont get to dirty ☺️
It's amazing how warm your shelter got. Great video.
