Brother, please. And I mean please. Do not stop making content. You are the escape I need so badly from the normalcy of the life I currently live. I only get to hike a few miles a week and that means the world to me. Watching you is almost just as good ;) I’ve dealt with addiction and all the bad stuff as well. Nature and working hard really is a cure. I’m very proud of you. Keep going!!
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” - John 3:16 Come to Jesus, Receive Him as your Lord and Saviour by faith and He will give you joy, peace, happiness anything more than the world can possibly offer. Jesus loves you❤
Being an old guy, I keep being impressed all to hell just with the physical strength, stamina and endurance involved. Then there's the knowledge and skill both of bushcraft and of photography, and the upbeat, can-do attitude. Ten thumbs up!
Xander, my wife and I love watching your videos. I especially love your sense of humor and your humility. Too many people want to claim to be experts and know-it-alls and your not one of them. Even though I am ex-military and have been in the outdoors most of my life...I am still learning and have learned some things from you. Some valuable things. Thanks so much for what you do and keep on doing it. Being out in nature surely is therapeutical and is definitely a reminder of where we all come from. Cheers!
Man, I never knew you could start a fire with a battery and some chewing gum wrapper! It's like watching The History Channel, but more entertaining. Happy New Year Xander 🎉
So fun fact, I think this man made plasma in the woods! When you complete a circuit it creates an electromagnetic field, which likes to travel through conductors but also radiates around them. When he completed the circuit with the gum, he created a magnetic field. The fire then got caught in that field and changed shape and color. I'm sure part of that was the paper's lining, but the shape and burst of color as it seemed to hang there for a split second looked like plasma.
Lol what Nerotic said... thats "prison match" style for sure. Hilariously enough it's also an extremely useful survival tool to know about for those emergency times, or I suppose to show off to friends.
The first time I saw Xander do this was how I found the channel. Awesome to see him testing himself again with the strategy, really drives home that these kinds of fires could save your life in a survival situation.
DUDE a BATTERY AND A STICK OF GUM! You have serious balls going out in the bush with just these three items! RESPECT! I need major lessons from you on starting fires with raw and wet standing dead wood, you are a freaking Jedi master at this. WHAT A THUMBNAIL AS WELL! Well done!
I've always used full, large pieces of wood I scavenged and fed them into the fire as they burn down. Never as a life saving device but basically because the u re large and as a woman I'm not as strong to saw and saw and saw. I've wondered why You Tube guys always cut it up like their home woodstove requires. Probably cuz it's so easy for them. Anyway, when I see your videos post I'm right on it. Be well. Hey, have a great, wholesome New Year, young man.
You're the man! Last year I taught a survival class and I told everyone that I can make fire by using a stick of gum and my GPS. You can never have too many tricks up your sleeve.
hi xander. I am 26 hailing from the usa, i get a lot of inspiration from your videos. I have connected with nature to help combat feelings of depression/ substance abuse- something i think you have mentioned dealing with to an extent yourself. Anyway i always learn a lot from you whether it be your camera work, knowledge, or just the poop tips and wanted to say thank you for what you do. You inspire me to follow a similar path, and its something i definitely intend to pursue, albeit probably from the comfort of a tent and sleeping bag lol.
Amazing to watch you going out there with continually fewer items each time. And in cold wet surroundings. If you would ever get into a survival situation I would bet that you would do pretty well. Love your channel. You are an inspiration. 👍👍👍
I know you see it a lot, but thank you so much for being an escape from the real life stress we all go through on a daily basis. You’re an artist at what you do, and I love to live vicariously through you as I get ready to go Into the office at 7am tomorrow. Keep doing what you do!!
Great video Xander. Only one opinion on emergency shelter without sleeping bag and/or shelter. Include a wool blanket as minimum item when ending out in the wilderness without being prepared. It improves "comfort" substansially and increases chance of survival by far. In the old days, a wool blanket was a "must have"!
love that moment, when all comes down to the little spark of the chewinggum paper. breathtaking. doing it at home is one thing. beiing successfull with it out there is just brilliant! thanx for that moment😊
This man pushes himself to be better and do better and I’m glad I’m here along for the journey you help a lot of escape the harsh realities of the world 🌎
Less is more. Another strong tutorial on what you really need in a pinch. Again you continue to solve problems by continuing to use your best tool, your brain. Base log burned up last time, use a wet log this time for the base log. Well done!
I love these videos because it keeps me going and helps me mentally when I’m down. Im so impressed with the way you started a fire the real life McGyver way. Awesome!
Terrific upload as always Xander. I want to get into this type of camping one day, albeit not as minimalist but this is just so cool. Thanks for your uploads man
Xander ever since I found your channel I have been watching your videos to get away from the stress of the world. I can say they help me a lot and I really want to thank you for sharing this with the world. 😇😇
Xander! A thermostat controls temperature, a thermometer shows you the current temperature. That said I bet you would have liked to turn up the temperature on this trip 👍🏻
Great vidoes, I appreciate the enthiusiasm. I don't think people truly appreciate the work involved to comfortably survive a night like this without shelter. Like the old saying goes, firewood warms you twice, once when you collect it and after when you burn it.
After a long day watching these videos is a way for me to recharge my battery. Thank you for posting these, they also help me prepare for changing my lifestyle to more of a survivalist lifestyle.
these kind of videos are the best ones you know - just cause it is lightly snowing it does not mean that you are going to freeze if you have a fire going
Watching you from faraway in tropical Singapore, I always find it super intriguing and beneficial to my knowledge of the basics of how to survive in extreme cold wild country. I'm inspired.😊
i mostly appreciate how you mix it up and teach actual survival tips while having fun in the woods! im currently watchin this in a tent in the woods hoping for some snow lol 👍🤙🤘✊️🎉
So good to see these obscure tips being spread around! Just so you/everyone is aware; charcoal is a decent abrasive and as such will clean your teeth in a pinch decently well, but over time could erode the enamel; so make sure that you don't just replace all your toothpaste with charcoal to maintain those pearly-whites!
I'm glad to see someone else getting winded from the pocket chainsaw. I've gone through three of them hoping to find the one that is as easy as a chainsaw but it's really just elbow and shoulder Grease
That's amazing the way you made fire with a battery and a gum wrapper I have never seen that before ever 😮 you have the best Bushcraft skills and I love to watch you process wood and make the best and biggest fire's keep up the good work ❤
There's always a point in your videos where I just find myself laughing. You got a great sense of humor, buddy. Thanks for teaching me about the battery/foil trick. Never knew that!
Xander... you crack me up, kid! Thanks for doing your thing. I wish I could still do it, but I am old now. Winter camping was such fun. But I always had matches, wax/cotton balls, tarp, sleeping bag and spare dry clothing. 👍😎❤
Love your vids! Such a great attitude. Don’t know how you make it through the night when it’s snowing but I guess as long as you keep those fires going you’re OK. One thing is for sure, a hot shower and a bed will never feel as good.
i love your rain videos the most, camping in rain , miss them a lot btw . this is a great video but love where you enjoy great food and be in rain and kayak and be in a comfortable place 😄
Hi Xander. Well sir, you never cease to amaze. That battery tip is something else. One a side note. Some of the southeastern tribes used a similar way to do the fire, but they took four logs and laid them out like a plus sign, and moved them in as needed., but you having two fires and sleeping in between I've never seen before. Brilliant. Liking the new hand saw. I'll leave you with this. A walk in the woods, among snow laden branches, Alone, Silence rumbles through brush and birch in Winters Sun. Still beauty of the forest, Quiet Majesty, Bull Moos, Bear, need no translation. M. C.. Til next time.
it's amazing that to record this video you put yourself through a lot of work, including getting up multiple times during the night. I rate this highly. By the way, while cutting with the chain, put a wedge so that the tree cannot press the chain.
16:49 I will add to your information about batteries, the one you used is alkaline, those usually have much higher current capabikities in comparison to conventional cells... also a lot of headlamps nowadays use lithium ion batteries, those would deliver even higher current, and have higher voltage ( nominal around 3,6V , you can make the " choke point" a bit wider in such case
I now have 10 videos recommended about camping in freezing cold and snow. I'll be impressed when someone camps in a hot tent in a snow globe at the bottom of the deepest lake in Ontario. Jon can teach you Xander.
In a minimal scenario you would probably have your pocket knife or belt knife but a chain saw ! That is serious bushcrafting gear. Picking a campsite higher up is dryer and warmer. Shredding birch bark before putting in your pocket will dry and catch fire better. Using masses of birch bark was smart, to dry out the fine sticks.
Good afternoon Xander. Thanks as always for your upload(s). I thoroughly enjoy watching every clip you produce... and looking forward to your winter ones again - that's if winter / snow ever arrives this year! Take good care eh.
If you stack 2 AAAs it would provide enough power to start a fire. Also you could use multiple gum wrappers to have more control starting the flame, with more time and distance from the flame
I grew up in Toronto Canada, a middle school field trip to a forest farm in Uxbridge Ontario taught me how to light a fire with battery’s and steel wool , we had bring a pot of water to a boil first .. my class won !
Okay, I love these videos, you are far more knowledgable and skilled than I could ever hope to be at anything to do with the outdoors. Now that being said, I thought eating snow for survival was like...a very bad idea? Isn't it dirty water or something?
the only dry wood you need, really, is enough to make some shavings, in the center of a 4 log Alternative Swedish fire torch. YT has a vid about a similar bundle The rest of the bundle can be green wet wood IF you shave 1/3rd of the wet circumference of the 4 logs off, face those shaved sides towards the center of the bundle and one more thing. Chop at those shaved sides, creating chips that do NOT break free of those logs. I use 3"=4" OD logs for most of my Swede bundles and I cut them 8" long. That way, when I stand them up under a 12" high siberian fire lay, their intense flame is working on the Siberian, right where 2 of the Siberians logs touch. If I'm in a hurry to get the Sibeiran going and all is wet, I'll make two such Swede-bundles I make a double handful of scrapings with the corner of the spine of my knife-blade. Ignite the scrapings, and once the shavings are burning, with gloves on, wave the Swede around until I have flames coming out of both ends of the bundle. I orient the Swede so that those "roughening" chips on the inside of the bundle are facing down, for easy ignition. I set up the Swede on 2-3 sticks or stones, so that air can get under it.
I know they supplied those nifty hand grips, but those chain saws really work better if you mount them on a frame and tension them up like a bucksaw. Way less binding.
It's probably hard to notch trees with that saw but it would definitely help with the pinching. Otherwise make a wedge to pound in from behind the cut to keep the kerf from closing. Another great video.
Hello Xander, I am following you from Jordan in the Middle East. I do not speak English, so I had to use Google. What is this content, man? It is really amazing. I really love watching your videos. Thank you for this content, keep it up 🤍
This channel is my go to when I need to unwind from the insanity of the world. Wholesome RUclips at its best.
Same here man, I rewatch them every night. Great escape from the hustle and bustle
Totally agree. It really is relaxing to follow along his adventures in the wild. And we learn about important tricks too
And his brothers channel, Maxim
Totally same here, wish I had the balls to give this stuff a go myself 😂
You at Pc? Ok

I'm wondering at what point we should start calling him "MacGyver"?
@tensixty6 lol, right? He's awesome
So fun fact, I think this man made plasma in the woods! When you complete a circuit it creates an electromagnetic field, which likes to travel through conductors but also radiates around them. Birch Bark is a cheat code
I love crawling into bed, shutting off the crazy world, family safely asleep, and falling completely impressed into this! Amazing! Thank you!
It is crazy the amount of information this man offers. Super grateful to have come across this channel. Thanks Xander!
Indeed!
I have OCD and anxiety, and your channel always helps me to calm down and de-stress when I need to. Thanks for everything !
You’re not alone with your anxiety challenges Mr. NJ, live in the now and you’ll be OK. Best wishes to you (us both).
The future makes you anxious, the past makes you depressed. Live in the now.
I spent 6 weeks in the woods with only one item, my RV. LOL. TY Xander for another great bit of entertainment.
I bet there was food and a bed plus a tv in the rv tho
Good one. 😊😊😊😊😊

There are SO MANY horrible "camping in the woods" videos that cheat their work, you obviously keep it real and I'm totally here for more.

One of my favorite vicarious outdoor channels on the Internet.

Battery and gum wrap. GENIUS!😮 Will try that myself thanks Xan!
I love these videos so much. Especially on a Saturday evening. I have been watching these nearly every night. With love from the UK!

Those pocket saws are really, really great bits of kit! Should be part of any bug out/emergency kind of bag
This was another great one Xander! Glad you were warm enough. Nothing like a fire when you need one.
So wholesome. I hope that never changes here it makes my day. :)

This is, BY FAR, my favorite channel. Wel done and regards from Jerusalem
My weekend is complete when Xander drops a video
Really been enjoying watching you push and test yourself a little further every video! Thanks for sharing and Happy New Year!
The pocket chainsaw is really amazing! I once cut a 24 inch stump in half in less than 30 minutes. One of the best survival tools out there! 💯🔥👍
Absolutely insane, so enjoyable to watch. We don’t know what you’re undergoing in that night! Respect
Hey Xander love the videos. Your doing a great job keeping it simple but entertaining. Cheers from Alberta.

it's amazing that to record this video you put yourself through a lot of work, including getting up multiple times during the night. I rate this highly. By the way, while cutting with the chain, put a wedge so that the tree cannot press the chain.
Definitely trying that fire starting method the next time i go camping! Great video as always Xander

Hey Xander , when’s the bushcraft cookbook coming out . Your meals always look amazing ❤

You are on fire lately, pumping out videos with cool concepts. Winter survivals are my favourite, hope we see some deep snow soon :)
I know it’s not exactly a challenge but i’d love to see more hot tent camping in the snow, something about it is so cozy to watch before bed
I literally stared at the thumbnail for like 3 minutes straight. It should be a puzzle I'm telling you. Love the content!

Dang, that wet base log idea is pretty genius.
