    I was sitting on the fence in regards to purchasing a second hand Ricoh Gr II. I usually shoot 35mm film but not only has it been burning a hole through my pocket, the lack of film supply is a massive issue. So I wanted to dip my toe into the realm of compact Digital cams. After watching your short but super sweet video you have made me feel confident about my decision. I'll be buying the one I have had my eye on..Thank you! I love your photos and your freckles. :)

      Shontay, thanks for tuning in. And for the kind words. 🙏🏽 I'm with you on the disappointment I feel with the shortage of film and the outrageous prices to boot! The GR II is a beautiful alternative til prices of film come down. Image Quality, grit and Ergonomics. Been in love with it since 2017. Best oof luck with your purchase! Have a great weekend. 👍🏼

      @shontaybuchanan9687 Consider the GRiii or GRiiiX. 50% more pixels. Same sharp lens in the iii. The iiiX lens is very sharp too and is 40mm equivalent. You have to trade the flash for two stops of IBIS. I think worth the trade. Some ii owners disagree. YMMV.

    Hey Taha, great Video! I'm a long time GR3 user, and recently picked up a GR2 at a good price and I'm on a "reverse journey" now and really loving its results. But when question I cannot find an answer for, and maybe it just is what it is, but my GR2 "resets to baseline" when it powers. So for an example, on MY1 I have my base at 1/250, positive film, and snap set to 2.5m - my go to baseline for quick stuff on the street. But let's imagine it's a nice foggy day, and I wanna do monochrome shots with motion blur at 1/60, take some shots, and turn the camera off the preserve battery. 5 minutes later in more or less the same lighting conditions, something happens and I wanna capture it in the last monochrome settings I had, I power the camera back on, and it's back to my default MY1 settings and I need to fumble to get the camera back how I want it. My GR3 will preserve whatever I had last set, in any mode, and won't default to "baseline settings" until I actually use the wheel to change to U2, U3, Tv, etc. Ideally, I'd like this exact behavior for my GR2.

      It's all marketing. People keep getting conned into thinking they need the latest cameras. The older digitals are better than what we have now. They have a charm, a character and less MP. Less MP is better because the pixels are larger and better at gathering light. I have gone back to my old Nikon D800 over the fuji GFX. The GFX is so clean it bores me.

    • @tahaphoto
      @tahaphoto  9 месяцев назад

      Great question! The GR II is one of the best compact, point and shoot cameras out for beginners. Here's why... It really is user-friendly, you can get to shooting literally right when you turn it on (P mode for beginners or Av mode once you get a little more curious😊). The other major reason I love this camera is that you can grow with it. As you improve, the camera becomes more "professional" for you because there are so many features that await your curiosity. I used mine daily from 2017- 2023. I upgraded to the GR III X this past fall. So basically, 1 camera in 7 years. 🙏🏽👍🏽👌🏽 Hope this helps. Take in the other RUclips GR videos I made for more pointers. Last point. I don't miss the viewfinder, the GR series is made for snap and go photography. Shooting from the hip, in the moment type shooting. No need for a viewfinder. 😊📸

    • @tahaphoto
      @tahaphoto  Год назад

      Hi Rachel. I appreciate you watching the video. The GR II in 2023? YES and NO... Let me explain. IF the following things line up when looking for a used GR2 then buy.
      1st) A great price of a USED, near-mint GR2 should be roughly $850 CDN or LESS imo.
      2nd) ask to see visual proof of shutter count (how many frames have been shot with that GR2). Remember it came out in 2015.
      3rd) look and ask about dust spots on the sensor.... NOW with all that said, if you can get your hands on a used GR3 that may be the smarter decision with plenty of upside, and here's why...
      GR3 - $1000 - $1100 used
      GR3 - 24mp vs GR2 16mp
      GR3 - Touchscreen
      GR3 - IBIS + great in low light situ
      Anyway, do your own googles and see what works for your budget. I will be transitioning into the GR3/ GR3x in 2023.(BUT I won't sell my GR2... It's too gritty and unique to sell off)
      Hope all this helps. Have a lovely day!

    I wondered who else is still shooting with the GRii. There's nothing like having it in your pocket. Nothing. I often just pop it in my bag when I'm going to do something other than photography like snorkeling or mountain trekking when space is at a premium, and it has bailed me out multiple times where I just thank the heavens that I have a good camera on me. On those occasions, I was able to take shots that I've blown up and sold as prints, and they are indeed some of my most favorite shots that I've ever taken. Yeah, I can use my cell phone, but really, come on-no comparison. There's no way a cell phone shot can be edited or blown up like a RAW file out of the GRii. I get giddy just thinking about my GRii, and smile every time I grab it. It's the best kept secret in photography. In fact, I chuck it in my bag on photo trips, too, to use as a back up. It's a lightweight miracle in your pocket that I even forget I'm carrying. I'm sure the GRiii is as good, albeit without the beloved, pop-up flash.

      @@tahaphoto I have both at the moment. I'm using the III more these days because of the touch focus on the screen but prefer the body of the II. I feel I should let go of one of them but hate to do so.

    Definetly a great camera. Got mine in 2021. I even took the II over the III because of the grainy look and the high contrast b&w that i like more on the II. The III is great but for me it has a just too digital and clean look to it - II has just this sick unique film-digital hybrid look.
    The only thing i don't like that much is the f 2.8 and i hope they can go up to 1.7-2.0 in a future GR IV (and i would love to have a monochrom version like the Q2M, just a bit more effordable for everybody...)

      Moses! Same same. I tested out the GRIII a cpl yrs back and just thought it was too crisp or digital for my liking... Man, the GRII just has a special feel/look to it. I wish GRII had ibis + 24MP, man it would be the ultimate p&s period. 😤 now that monochrome GR ?! Damn!! Sign me up.🤣🔥 Appreciate you chking the video 🙏🏽

      @@tahaphoto @Moses P, you two are right. Got my GR III in November and I'm still trying to become one with it, like I was with the GR II. The GR II felt like an extension of me. I love its ergonomics, the set up options and the look of the shots better than I do the III. The III is a bit small and doesn't fit as nicely in the hand. I did a lot of shooting with the II and got those photos online and in print and they look great. Sadly, my sensor got super dirty and it the shutter locked extended out, but I have it safe and next time I'm in Japan, I'm getting it fixed. I definitely DID NOT baby it and had it in my pocket at all times. I have the GR I as well and my feeling is that the II has a slight edge in focusing speed, especially in low light situations - although, it's my understanding that they are the same in that regard? Anyhow, I love the Positive Film on the I and II, and they do differ a bit from one and other. For the prices on the used market, I'd TOTALLY recommend getting a I or II. Hell, if you found a brand new II, I'd tell anyone to grab it. I wish they didn't mess with the II or kept it going longer. Anyway, if anyone is looking for one, pick one up! -- Also, if anyone is looking for a good point and shoot for film, you can't beat the og GR 1. Way better in look, handling and photo quality than the Contax T2 - even with a messed up display on top, GR 1 wins in my book. Ok, enough gushing ha ha ... Cheers!

      Geeez. You crushed all points about the GR II. Like seriously, what ain't broke don't need fixing. Love tweaking my setting and printing my results. My next film p&s will be the GR 1. Thanks for sharing your experiences and opinions.

    Is there a feature difference between the GRii 10MP and the GRii 16MP?

    • @tahaphoto
      @tahaphoto  Год назад

      Sorry, I must've missed your comment here... 🙏🏽
      Aside from the megapixel increase that you mentioned (10mp to 16.2mp) The other MAJOR feature was Ricoh moving from the outdated CCD sensor to the newer APS-C sensor. Look at the size difference between sensors:
      (Old GR Digital) measures 7.36mm × 5.52mm at the (Newer GRII) measures 23.7mm × 15.7mm.
      Wifi was a nice addition
      Seven additional effect modes for JPEGs
      If you can grab the GR II that would be the better buy.
