At first I had a hard time liking the GRii when I got it after all the hype about being a legendary street camera. But let me tell you! After a few months of taking pictures and practicing with the snap focus. I FREAKING LOVE THIS CAMERA!!! It now goes with me everywhere. I figured out settings that seem to finally work for me. I can now shoot from the hip like a NINJA. I like going back and forth between AV and TAV modes, snap focus distance set to 1.5, matrix metering and center, sometimes spot. I go between 2.8-and F4 apertures. I keep my ISO in the 3200 range, I mostly use the Positive film and the SOC images are just amazing. The black and white high contrast is very cool too! You will love this camera!
Listen up everyone. I agree 100000% with him on this. I have a Leica m10 and Ricoh gr2. I haven’t touched my Leica in over a month because the Ricoh never leaves my pocket. I’m taking photos with this little camera every sec I can. Personally, I believe it’s better than the Leica.
Got my GR 1 back in 2013, still remembered I sold my old canon 600D for it , best decision made, this GR had been with me since then and went on many trips, my main workhouse for street photography :)
I'm shooting with rangefinder and "hyper-focally". Rangefinder allows to focus from 0.7 to infinity. It is not just one distance set. "Hyper-focally" to me means using DOF scale. With rangefinder tabbed lens and DOF scale it allows three in-focus ranges to be determined, selected without looking at the lens. Close, middle and far. Just by focus tab position. With GRs it is doable via C1, C2 and C3 with three different snap focus distances. Way more versatile than fixed focus camera single snap mode.
I was in Chicago on the L with my GRII strapped on me and this random guy just started staring at me, then began laughing really loud and just kept saying over and over "cheap ass camera". It was a pretty glorious moment and solidified why I got the GRII--because it doesn't stand out.
I actually just purchased a Ricoh GR Digital IV (smaller 1/1.7 inch sensor) and my first GR. I love the layout and size. And solved my digicam habit with something advanced to go along with my Samsung EX2F. Which is very similar with a 24-80mm f1.4-2.7 zoom lens.
The dynamic range of the 16mp sensor makes it a great camera for landscape photography. You can get the 21mm adapter, or a 49mm filter holder. The camera is flat, so you can put it on a bench and shoot low speed, in lanscape or portrait mode. Very clever!
GRII is fantastic for what it is I picked one up for a really good deal now it’s like an extension of my body. Def going to save for a GRIII because I want IBIS and the slightly better image quality.
Got one two weeks ago and I'm loving it. It definitely has a bit more grain than my Fuji's but the sharpness of the lens, positive film, and the sheer portability more than makeup for it.
Before I even finish this video. I want to say my GRII I got two years ago has been my favorite camera. I don't have the track record of owning a bunch of cameras like so many of you, illustration and drawing are my main passion. But I just have to say, I love this camera as a tool for being creative. It's just so much damn fun. Also shoot a Minolta X-700 and looking to start developing my own B&W film for fun. But I LOVE my little Ricoh GRII.
I unfortunately see those dust spots you mention in my photos but that doesn’t stop me from using it everyday. I might buy a replacement soon. Definitely worth the money.
I’m ordering a GR iii today. The entire GR series is legendary and holds a lofty place in the global street photography community. Long live the GR Cult!!! 🔥 📸 🔥
Great video dude! Ricoh's cameras have always been solid! I'm going to be doing a video very soon on the Ricoh R1 that I found at an estate sale for $5!
I have the griii and it goes with me everywhere, its so small and discreet, plus the snap focus works like a rangefinder system so it is so quick on the streets. it is amazing
Just bought this camera in mint condition for 150euros with a strap and a case. Now I only need a charging cable so I can use it . But it feels so good in hand.
It's been a fat minute since i've had the time to watch your stuff man. Reminds me of how much i miss your content. I guess imma binge ur vids. Hope you're doin well man! Keep up the dope content!
Was able to get mine for around $330 on mpb its a little beaten up but its a great travel camera. I did make sure that it was the apsc model and not the 1 inch sensor camera.
@@Milan-cf1xe The Fuji isn’t as pocketable. Can put it in your jacket pocket though. The Fuji has the 35mm field of view vs the Ricoh’s 28mm. The Fuji has a view finder and the Ricoh doesn’t. I believe the Fuji is a few hundred dollars more expensive. Mask On Nurse Marty
This camera look so good compared to the other options I wanted,I need one haha but I have a question, dumb question, how do you upload the photos to the pc?
Congratulations you made it to 100 k, thanks for all the great content and inspiration! You’re a big part of the reason I got back into film last year!!
Dope vid bruh. I’m using the GRIII and I can’t say enough how much I love it. It’s the camera that makes me excited about shooting. Ricoh’s GR series in my opinion should be in the same categories as Leica
My favourite camera , I always shot jpeg set to shoot colour AND bnw at the same time , but traded it when the griii came out , I wasn't happy with the low battery life and price , I've just picked up the original gr digital creative set off eBay ,now I just need lockdown to end in the UK , great video always
You make a clear, logical argument to buy this camera, but, what about the elephant in the room? At the time you made this video, you didn’t mention the newer GRiii which was already out and selling well. The five reasons to buy the GRii also apply to the newer Griii, and with the GRiii you get a better lens, faster autofocus, larger sensor, touch screen, type C charging, and image stabilization. The GRii has one (and perhaps only one) advantage over the GRiii, that being the built-in flash which I wish that they kept. Keep the videos coming!
I wandered across this video looking for cameras to shoot outdoors. Those photos you took for your zine look really nice. What do you use to edit your photos?
how often do you use the flash? I do want to use more flash for night photos instead of pushing ISO all the time. and still debating with the fuji X70 instead - the popular video that comparing these cameras together all the time.
Man, this camera is so nice but sooo out of my price range. But I just found a Vivitar LC600 Focus Free camera today at Goodwill and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me any info on it since I can't find any online. Congrats on getting to 100k!!!
Bought one today in a second-hand shop in Japan. Doesn't recognize a 32GB SD card. Can't figure out how to check the firmware, since the instructions on the Ricoh site say to push and hold the Menu and Fn1 buttons, but there's no Fn1 button and holding the Menu and Fn button does nothing. Then there's no WB button to push either. It seems like a piece of crap and I'll be returning it ASAP.
Yes! I bought the GRlll last year and was my first Ricoh. One of the best cameras I’ve ever owned and it’s so much fun to use. The image quality is incredible.
Munkz Music, I love the black and white photos this camera takes, could you let me know if the video it takes is a bad as some people are saying, as I want to take a lot of videos as well, I will hold the camera mainly still while taking video, I don't plan to move it around.
Classic camera - I actually have a Nikon Coolpix A - small, easy to carry. It's 7 years old but still works perfectly. Also congrats on getting to 100K.
Plenty of the ii available on ebay in the $500 range! Pretty sweet. This would be a great "have it all the time" camera. Any thoughts on this vs the iii?
Depends on what you need and want. Technology moves on. Some people were upset when the GRiii deleted the flash. The GRiii has 24mp vs the 16mp of the GRii. The GRiii has two stops of IBIS. How did Ricoh jam that into the body? The Fuji XE3 is a striped down XPRO2. The main advantage is interchangeable lenses. If you already own it why would you buy the Ricoh? Mask On Nurse Marty
Is anyone experiencing a glitch with the GR2 when clicking the Menu button or the rocker to access options, when the shooting dial is in certain modes like P or Auto? The Menu screen and options suddenly disappear as if I clicked the Menu button or rocker to exit
hey, i just found your channel. you have a very pleasing style of presenting... i definitely have the GR on my list though was thinking of the III but maybe I should just reconsider picking up the II. Thanks for a good video review!
