Still own a petrol 2001 RX4 in 2023. Best car we’ve ever had. Ours has been mostly reliable, just some parts that had known issues. But here in Australia it is extremely rare and that’s what I love about mine. We never see any others. The steering is weighted and feels great around corners. The manual gearbox is also fantastic. Overall, ours has done 325,000km. Still going strong.
Fun Fact: Then they recorded this, Hammond and Mike Brewer (Wheeler Dealer) meet each other at this Renault PR Launch. They bonded and after that became good friends. Later Mike told Jeremy Clarkson about this guy Richard Hammond might be suitable for their upcoming car show Top Gear....
used to have a non rx4 scenic in that same colour and i gotta say it was a great car, absolute tardis for practicality and surprisingly fun to drive for a mum van, id love to have an rx4 one day just for how cool they look
Ive heard this was permanent 4x4 . But I l aways thought that this and the system on the Kangoo van that has the same AWD system was a limited slip design . So on the road it is a stand FWD but if the front wheels slip them the rear drive starts engaging ? Correct me if Im wrong
I like RX4 a lot. 1. It isn't off-road wannabe like most SUVs 2. It's spacious 3. Most of parts are cheap 4. It drives on highroads like Scenic 5. 4x4 helps when it's needed Some minuses 1. Uses much more petrol than Scenic 2. Driving is safe, but curves feel strongly 3. 4x4 needs to be replaced with something easier to maintain 4. wheels needs to be very similar, so change all 4 at the time 5. Very low carrying capacity, around 500kg I would like to have at least 700 I was looking for a car with 4x4 because I live in mountains, but I'm not driving off-road. This is a very good and cheap option.

The Scenic had it's real moments of genious, coupled with Renault trade marked cheapiness. All in all, I have one and I enjoy it a lot.
