Thanks for the review! Great video. I got the Osmo Mobile 6 myself and I use it when traveling or spending quality time with family. Personally, I find that whether I'm walking or running, the footage from the gimbal is super stable. I'm really satisfied with it.

How much weight can the Smooth 5s hold compared to the DJI Osmo Mobile 6? I've noticed with my iPhone 14 Pro Max the DJI OM6 seems to barely be able to hold the weight. I want to be able to add lenses and add-ons, can the smooth handle the extra weight?
If both these gimbals merged we would have the perfect tool. The zhiyun inception mode is brilliant, but the gimbal is huge and cumbersome. The dji more compact but lacks certain must have features, for me. I may wait for the next iterations

Thanks for you videos. I love your simple and very clean approach. I find myself hesitating between these 2 gimbals. I have a iPhone 12 Pro, which is not that big of a phone . I would like to put the Dji mic receiver on my phone while using the gimbal and cook the audio right away in the file (My goal is speed up the process and skip a few steps in editing) I understand this is NOT the best use of this material but speed of the workflow is very important to me. I feel more inclined toward the smooth 5+ at the moment cause it seems more robust to me and have a wider range of motion. I would like your honest opinion on that. Thanks for your time. Your workflow is exactly what I would recommend and I tested this in my OM6 review (on my main page) during the selfie vlog section. I had the dji mic on my ip13pro and worked like a charm. That being said smooth 5s gimbal is > than dji for sure, however there is a little bit of clearance issue as you saw in my video. Now I was still able to attach my ip13 and dji mic on the gimbal and balance it but it was slightly pushing its limits. My recommendation would be if you know you are going to stick to ip12pro or a phone or that size then zhiyun is no problem. And the range of motion will allow for more flexibility during your shoot. However if you are going to upgrade say to a ip Max. The size might outbalance the gimbal. It’s not the weight it’s just the larger size unfortunately. So keep that in mind. Hope it helps.

No word about the payment for using the Zhyyun Software to use the S5 like the Osmo M6. It`s realy to much and the software for using the gimble should be included or not so expensive. Its money making ! Not good nothing to say about it but thanks about the honest review.

Thanks for the review. I could see myself using both of these. On the active track... I feel like Osmo is a bit too sensitive. While the Zhiyun allows the subject to move around in frame more, which to me looks more natural. Obviously DJI has better software engineering, and so I'm sure if they wanted to, they could allow the user to decrease or increase responsiveness... but I don't know how committed they are to the gimble to spend time updating features. If I were using the gimble on the go, and extended way out on a stick, and want something that doesn't stand out as much, and as you said outdoors usability in the Osmo is much better... I wonder if I can make it work with a GoPro mag mount or Osmo Action 2... maybe so...

I've just purchased the Osmo Mobile 6 and have been disappointed with the lack of movement on the axis when moving the phone down towards the ground. Tilting up and down is very poor and not having the infant rotation is also a disappointing.
I'm sorry you are going through this disappointment, but thank you for your thoughts because this comment solidified it for me. I feel like a brand like DJI just shouldn't have such an utter failure like this. I have a Zhiyun Crane 3 for my DSLR and maybe the fact that that crane was discontinued shortly after release says something, but that crane feels kind of clunky to me and is very bulky. Maybe I'm not skilled enough but it's always felt clunky and like it struggles to keep up. So I was looking forward to moving away from Zhiyun and using something simple and portable for a change. I guess though with such awful motion on the DJI I think I should just deal with it. IMO, no gimbal should have limited motion. You may as well just get a steadicam in that case.

Everyday users I would chose om6 as for weight it should be ok under 280-300g from my testing , best to go to a dji retailer to see if you like the feel.
hmm, hmm ... pretty bad, that after having the 6th (resp. 5th) generation of these gimbals in test, still, there is a lot left to work on. One would expect that these products will be "fine-tuned" already with almost no "but(s)" or limitations, yet it is not the case. DJI Osmo Mobile 6 is compact, but the limitations are quite annoying, while the Zhiyun Smooth 5s feels like it has a lot more to offer, but it is simply "one-level" larger compared to DJI. So, what's the conclusion? Which one to choose? Very tough to decide. Perhaps I should pick the Zhiyun and learn to live with the bigger body ... ?
Thank you for this video comparison. I have the Zhiyun Smooth 4. Unfortunately, this last drop has taken it out! When plugging it into the power source, nothing lights up. I have dropped it repeatedly because of its bulky size. It does not fit in most bags. New Gimbal customers. If Zhiyun solved that problem, it would leave DJI behind. Now, I have to purchase another gimble and fast. As a real estate agent, 70% of what I shoot is indoors, in low light, and with Atlanta weather, that might be closer to 80%. I just received the OM6 and I'm limited by the lowest selectable shutter speed of 1/30th of a second in time lapse. is the 5s software better in this regard?
I want DJI but i saw some guy putting it ona test and it failed when phone was attached with anamorphic lens. is it really that weak ? people on comments also agreed and said they returned because of that. Haven’t tested it but from my testing it depends on the angle you apply the force. This thing is solid front on, HOWEVER if travel too fast and the phone is slant say 90 degrees against the wind, it’s will lose its magnetic grip.

NO UPDATES at all since the earlier smooth and earliest OSMO. 30 fps limits on Android for prety much any brand of Android phone. They have not fixed this in YEARS, in fact it never worked except for older Note and S series phones that had 1080P 30 fps. You will not find a DJI or Zhiyun device that provides 1080P 60 fps, or 4K 60 fps. Only iOS works which is WHY most of these demo YT videos are running iOS devices. None can answer the reasons or the timeline for any App changes from DJI or Zhiyun. If you have an Android phone, new or older, you have to use the native camera app to record which means you lose all the functions of the gimbal bluetooth actions like settings, focus pulls etc. NONE of those will work.
neither DJI or Zhiyun will offer late model camera resolutions at 60 fps. They both limit almost all Android devices to 30 fps even at 1080P which is a laugher. You have to use the native camera app, and just manually adjust the gimbal as you go. The apps for these will NOT work properly with most newer or even 2 year old Android devices. They have been lazy, and have not attempted to fix this since the earlier Smooth gimbals years ago, and since the DJI Osmo 4. DJI just forces Android users into iOS for ANY of their products. Both are terrible at updating their apps.
My experience with both is that the 5S is overall the better gimbal. But not by much. More a matter of preference with specific features than anything. I think a lot of new gimbal users are surprised to find out that a gimbal isn't magic. To get the kind of results from a gimbal most new users expect right away takes a lot of practice and experience.

Not unless you want to use the native camera apps because neither DJI OSMO or the Smooth 5 or 5S have apps that work at anything but 30 fps which is garbage. NONE of these mfg's gimbal apps support 60 fps for Android. They have NOT supported the Android phones since the Smooth 4 and the OSMO earliest releases. They don't care about the Android user base. I was just on a FB page for Zhiyun sales and talked with a representative. They use the same "check the list of supported devices" crap and the newest model Samsung phone is the S20 or Note 9. DUMB !!! The support people NEVER could tell me why they have not updated the Zy Cami or the StaCam apps. However, in some cases Filmic Pro app does work in the 60 fps modes so somewhere along the line somebody was able to figure it out. DJI is ALL 30 fps in 1080P and 4K for any of their OSMO gimbals.
I can’t comment since I don’t own that gimbal and I don’t recommend anything I haven’t tried myself. But yes I do agree both gimbals prices are pricey. I did complain about this in my osmo 6 in-depth review. I actually recommended the osmo 4-5
Can you switch cameras while recording like front to rear like in stock camera app and zoom in switching lenses wide to normal asking for DJI on Android
Also if your filming with the gimbal and charging it does it drain faster than it can charge idk if you tested that or how you could since there is not a % indicator
You can on the DJI. I bought one last Friday. I think I’m going to take it back and get the 5s. I don’t like the tilt on the DJI. I film sports so I need the tilt extension..
@@kyleleuang it’s 5s is also more like a mini version of the crane M3. I like to get shots of cleats, huddles, and just ground level and overhead shots. Best Buy has some awesome deals on their open-box products.

active track is better on the Om6 but u can pick up a really cheap q4 these days second hand. So i would go q4 if you want to save and resale cause you won’t lose much in depreciation. Otherwise go the newer model.
Just purchased the DJI OSMO Mobile 6 yesterday from Best Buy... And I should have watched more of these reviews. I will be shooting in portrait mode for Instagram, and in doing so, I noticed I am seriously limited in my rotations. I like how quickly I can connect my phone to it (which is a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra), but not having the ability to get the angles I want... Is a big issue. Another issue is when I add a lens and ND filter to it, the weight starts to mess with the rotation a bit. It also introduces a bit of shake to the footage. And finally, the battery drains really fast. Not a fan of that, which again, is my fault for not reading-up on the gimbal before purchase. I've been watching a LOT of videos on the ZHIYUN 5S today and a lot of these videos comparing the two gimbals... And I'm sold on it. I don't mind the extra weight, honestly, because all my issues are addressed with the ZHIYUN. Plus, the gimbal looks a little better (IMO). Sure I have to purchase a separate extension stick (for $30 or so), but I have increased battery life, stronger motors, and better range of rotation. Needless to say, tomorrow morning I am returning my DJI to Best Buy and purchasing the white ZHIYUN from Amazon. Thank you for your review on these two - and on the ZHIYUN alone (which I watched just before this). You went fairly in depth, were easy to understand, gave what I gathered to be an honest opinion, and focused on some great points.
Most places have refund policy? If not I wouldn’t sweat it. I wouldn’t sweat it. Both are capable so just use what you have and learn to shoot with it.
Sold my OM5 due to its limited angle of movement. Prefer the zhiyun 5s. It is bigger. But it can do more besides steadying the camera. If u shoot while walking in streets to record stuff. OM5 is great. W smooth 5s. It's move for one who is out with a more purposefully planned shoot utilizing it's functions. That say, I much prefer the 5s.
One thing. DJI app is not published in Google Play Store, as all other apps. DJI probably hid something and doesn't allow to verify this app by Google. Probably Chinese government's malware and spyware is inside DJI app.

What microphone are you using with your phone? I was looking at Dji’s mike but it seems to record only mono on an iphone
I was using the dji wireless mic , though at one point it was just the iPhone mic

Not unless you want to use the native camera apps because neither DJI OSMO or the Smooth 5 or 5S have apps that work at anything but 30 fps which is garbage. NONE of these mfg's gimbal apps support 60 fps for Android. They have NOT supported the Android phones since the Smooth 4 and the OSMO earliest releases. They don't care about the Android user base. I was just on a FB page for Zhiyun sales and talked with a representative. They use the same "check the list of supported devices" crap and the newest model Samsung phone is the S20 or Note 9. DUMB !!! The support people NEVER could tell me why they have not updated the Zy Cami or the StaCam apps. However, in some cases Filmic Pro app does work in the 60 fps modes so somewhere along the line somebody was able to figure it out. DJI is ALL 30 fps in 1080P and 4K for any of their OSMO gimbals.
Is Zhiyun compatible with Nothing Phone 1?
Given its using andriod system it should. However nothing isnt available where i am so i cant be sure.
Putting compactness aside, for the money wouldn’t the Feiyutech G6 Max be a better value than the both of these models of Zhiyun and DJI?
I can’t comment since I don’t own that gimbal and I don’t recommend anything I haven’t tried myself. But yes I do agree both gimbals prices are pricey. I did complain about this in my osmo 6 in-depth review. I actually recommended the osmo 4-5

Can you switch cameras while recording like front to rear like in stock camera app and zoom in switching lenses wide to normal asking for DJI on Android
Also if your filming with the gimbal and charging it does it drain faster than it can charge idk if you tested that or how you could since there is not a % indicator
You can on the DJI. I bought one last Friday. I think I’m going to take it back and get the 5s. I don’t like the tilt on the DJI. I film sports so I need the tilt extension..
@@kyleleuang it’s 5s is also more like a mini version of the crane M3. I like to get shots of cleats, huddles, and just ground level and overhead shots. Best Buy has some awesome deals on their open-box products.

I have om4... I want to upgrade...do you suggest smooth q4....smooth 5 or om6???? I film some rc car and some play with my Kids outside (little sport)

by your example of walking ZHIYUN 5s is better. Looks like Smooth 5S has better stabilization.

active track is better on the Om6 but u can pick up a really cheap q4 these days second hand. So i would go q4 if you want to save and resale cause you won’t lose much in depreciation. Otherwise go the newer model.
Just purchased the DJI OSMO Mobile 6 yesterday from Best Buy... And I should have watched more of these reviews.
I will be shooting in portrait mode for Instagram, and in doing so, I noticed I am seriously limited in my rotations. I like how quickly I can connect my phone to it (which is a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra), but not having the ability to get the angles I want... Is a big issue.
Another issue is when I add a lens and ND filter to it, the weight starts to mess with the rotation a bit. It also introduces a bit of shake to the footage.
And finally, the battery drains really fast. Not a fan of that, which again, is my fault for not reading-up on the gimbal before purchase.
I've been watching a LOT of videos on the ZHIYUN 5S today and a lot of these videos comparing the two gimbals... And I'm sold on it. I don't mind the extra weight, honestly, because all my issues are addressed with the ZHIYUN. Plus, the gimbal looks a little better (IMO). Sure I have to purchase a separate extension stick (for $30 or so), but I have increased battery life, stronger motors, and better range of rotation.
Needless to say, tomorrow morning I am returning my DJI to Best Buy and purchasing the white ZHIYUN from Amazon.
Thank you for your review on these two - and on the ZHIYUN alone (which I watched just before this). You went fairly in depth, were easy to understand, gave what I gathered to be an honest opinion, and focused on some great points.

Most places have refund policy? If not I wouldn’t sweat it. I wouldn’t sweat it. Both are capable so just use what you have and learn to shoot with it.
Sold my OM5 due to its limited angle of movement. Prefer the zhiyun 5s. It is bigger. But it can do more besides steadying the camera. If u shoot while walking in streets to record stuff. OM5 is great. W smooth 5s. It's move for one who is out with a more purposefully planned shoot utilizing it's functions. That say, I much prefer the 5s.

know that when you use this Gimbal you have to own 2 iPhone, one for the gimbal and one to carry in your pocket to receive calls .
3x zoom run test wasn’t done correctly…. Dji was zoomed much further
5s can hold more weight than the dji.
As always I leave more confused then before after these reviews. Why can’t anybody make a good gymbal that has it all balanced

DJI app is not published in Google Play Store, as all other apps.
DJI probably hid something and doesn't allow to verify this app by Google.
Probably Chinese government's malware and spyware is inside DJI app.
