First step of video making is to get it done handheld and learn editing. Editing will point out the flaws and areas of improvement . After a period of time either your interest get faded or will take it to next level. Get a gimbal if moving to next level. Dont buy a gimbal after watching breathtaking videos thinking that its easy. For that you need passion which should not last for a week / few months 😆 + require patience and time. Thats all folks
This was by far the best comparison between hand held moves and gimbal equivalent. You did a great job. I'm new to gimbals & have an Insta360 Flow. It's definitely a learning process and I have had to try out many moves over and over to become familiar with them and to learn the gimbals functions. It's not a quick and easy transition if you've not used a gimbal before. Blessings
@@pinkcurlgirl Being new to gimbals I'm still in a learning curve. But the more i use it the more I love it. But so far most of my use has been just practicing using the facilities. But today I put together a short Christmas video message using the rear facing cameras on wideangle which worked out fine. Previously I've only used the selfie camera on my iPhone12pm. From the reviews I've seen I'm well pleased with it. One drawback has been the limited tilt range, but I've found I can get around that by holding the thing out to the side and then lifting it up. That way the movement is accommodated by the rotate axis rather than by the tilt axis.
Interesting. For many, life is not about “I need” it’s often about “I want” you are clearly an experienced video man. I suspect many (Inc me) would not achieve hand held outcomes that you do. Yes, of course a gimbal involves a learning curve. That’s said so does hand held filming. A gimbal often has pre programmed, reccomend Ed filming modes, shortening in part the learning curve. So, me (my humble thoughts) I’d say a gimbal is a very good economical start for a newbie. Can always, as you learn, of course, whip your phone out quickly and take shots, take vids. A gimbal, and it’s settings similarly even teaches you how to make the shots, the moves. Gdi Osmo 6 I think is their most up to date model…… it’s hardly expensive. Good vid though, thank you. New follower😁 best regards.
Yes there is a learning curve required to using a gimbal. I enjoy shooting handheld especially if I want that handheld look which creates more realism into the video :)
it looks to me that the video editing software limited a lot of the shake ? as the initial raw recording I could see a lot of the shake I would be far from happy with ?
If you compare the screen record and final shot, basically you will see that without a gimbal, you need to cut the edges of your video, and shaking will be reduced. Also, you need to be steady while filming it.
Love your channel -- i've been watching it for a while now and appreciate your practical approach for teaching novice creators. As to whether to gimbel or not, one thing you do not mention as a con is that many gimbels cannot handle a phone with any case and those that do cannot accept thick-ish cases. This forces you to remove the case every time you want to use them -- not convenient at all. I've tried all the phone gimbels released in the past several years and none of them accept my phone with the case on, which is ½" thick.
BOOM! :) Thank you for proving my point I was trying to make in your previous video... you don't really need a gimbal if you know what you're doing, shoot high FPS and slow it down. Great video, great shots, and you really can't tell the difference between the two.
As your recording the footage you are recording is bouncy handheld but in the playback we see its smooth no bounce. Is there a steady feature on your editing software? I mean I know you can use, I believe Warp I think to steady footage in Premiere Pro? I just want to ask if you know of a way to stabalize already decently stable footage that doesn't warp around the edges.
My hands are a bit shaky while recording hand held . The insta flow has been good to me . If I need it I’ll pull it out . I like the tripod feature and tracking system

I’m trying to make walk tour content with my iPhone 13 Pro Max and the DJI OM 6 really helps a lot with all the long walking takes! Smooth and leveled all the way.
I am just about to start learning video. the initial recording such as the wall and the ruin, the hand held footage whilst you recorded was shaky. The actual play back was smooth, is this due to software editing stabilisation ? also I noticed on the raw recording there was not black mark in the top right corner, the final playback version had a black line top right ? the Gimbal was definitely by far smoother while you was initially recording
Looking at purchasing a gimbal for my iPhone Pro and found your channel. :) I did notice everyone seems to have the phone in a horizontal position, can it be filmed in vertical on a gimbal?
I've been wondering a lot for the past few days whether to buy one or not for my S23 ultra. Having one of the best stabilisation in its cameras and not planning to shoot any "special type", I think I'll pass to buy one. Thanks for the video. RUclips recommendation does not disappoint.👍
Any recommendations for what quality and fps to shoot at. I have a s10+ but looking to upgrade to s23 ultra. Also are you editing back down to 24 fps in post?
Great Video Benett, but it would've been more useful if you tried comparing it with a budget smartphone. Because iPhone already got pretty good stabilization so we can't see any major difference but if tried it with a budget phone it would've completely changed the result.
I do agree with you. It would be better to use other phone rather than iPhone. But so far, I am into gimbal since I have mine the OM 3 and will upgrade to OM 6 soon.
For 4 second clips you can get away handheld, but it requires so much more concentration. Forget about handholding a hyperlapse for 10 minutes with the subject perfectly kept in the same position. You can concentrate more on the story with a gimbal in a more natural pose. And if it's too big, there's the Pocket 2. Phones have great stabilization, but that requires a fast shutter speed. If you want to use filters for a more cinematic look digital stabilization can look unnaturally warped in the corners. And the best digital stabilization is only available at a significant crop. Yes, I still use a gimbal. I learned so many tricks from you Benett.
Would you recomend this for train spotting i'm currently using a camcorder with a tripod but thinking of getting rid of all that and use my phone instead
I do both but again if you wanna runn for any action kinda shot get a gimble but if you do not just use your iPhone handheld,. practice practice and practice, btw great video buddy ! ❤️❤️

My first visit to your channel and I am delighted. You have such a wonderful teaching skills, everything is structured and layed out in a didactical manner. But also funny details. One thing you could have done more is to place both films next to each other in the frame, so that the comparison is much more obvious and easier to spot the differences. Also, you should have mentioned that your handheld recordings (or both) have been stabilized in post, which is not a small thing. So, the difference would have been much more obvious without later stabilizing the footage in post, wouldn't it?
Hi! I love your videos! I have an iPhone 14 pro max and I want to buy this gimbal (dji osmo 6) but I'm scared that maybe the iPhone is too heavy for the gimbal to stabilise properly, can you give me some advice?
If you want to fit more in the frame such as filming in tight spaces, great for establishing shots too, not so great in low light, can distort persons face when too close.

Mobile Gimbal still has a lot of advantages. It's a perfect tool for doing Walk Tour vlogs, imagine holding your phone for 10-20mins+. A gimbal is also good when doing reverse dolly shots. Also remember that Samsung's and Iphone's Digital Video Stabilization crops your video to make it smoother. The AI of Digital Video Stabilization also gets confused in low-light situations, so it generates a wobble effect when the AI can't distinguish the parameters. You can turn off Digital video stabilization when using a gimbal, this also improves the quality by 1/3rd. The major advantage of a Gimbal is the Production Time, Gimbal reduces the time in post-production.
if you're doing walk with me videos filming streets and sidewalks as you are walking do you think its better to have the gimble than just hold an iphone? I feel it comes out very shaky
