Now I understand why, some weeks ago in a comment, you suggested me to wait a while before to buy a gimbal. Thank you very much! Great gimbal and great review as always!
New subscriber here. I'm absolutely blown away by the quality of your reviews. You answered every SINGLE question I could've possibly had about this gimbal and more. Gonna buy one now.
As far as adding a microphone to the OM6, i believe it can be done before adjusting for balance, then it will function properly. I have this gimble but haven't tried it yet, but it does include a charging cable, so it makes sense if you're not using the included phone charging cable; you should be able to use a microphone dongle.
Thanks for this very thorough review of Hohem’s new gimbal. It really plant’s their flag on the top of gimbal mountain and gives other makers something to chase. The extra payload, screen, and multiple functions makes this a super smart choice for smartphone users. I have only one word for Hohem’s designers. For iPhone users… think MagSafe for gimbal connection to the phone.
It certainly is an impressive gimbal. I had the Hohem iSteady X before "upgrading" to the OM 6, I'm on Android and the Mimo app as far as I'm concerned is just trash and I do regret buying it sometimes. BUT I do really like the way the phone attaches to the OM 6 and that I don't have to balance it at all. The selfie stick too I find really useful but I just wish it could do crane shots. If the OM 6 could do crane shots and had a decent app it would be a perfect gimbal as far as I'm concerned. But if Hohem had the stick and didn't need balancing it would win that fight.
Thankyou very much for sharing your knowledge on all three products very helpful. I was just going to buy the smooth 5s a couple hours ago before work I am so glad I waited and saw your video.
Although the M6 is a very impressive gimbal with all the extra bells and whistles, I’m not a big fan of having to manually/physically change my phone from pan to portrait, THEN, rebalance it. I guess this is why I’ll just stick to my DJI Osmo 6. I’m also a big fan of the magnet the Osmo 6 utilizes for those quick removal/reattach moments. Great video of all three gimbals, my man. 🍻
Initially, I intended to purchase the M6 due to its exceptional functionality. However, I ultimately decided to go for the OM6 as I was particularly fond of its lightweight build and magnetic suction design. Moreover, it proved to be a more cost-effective option, especially since I purchased it from Amazon Warehouse at a discount of around 40% off the original price. Needless to say, it was a highly worthwhile investment.
OM 6 is waste of money. It has the tilt angle limited. You can't do fly through or torch mode with osmo mobile gimbals except osmo mobile 2. When you try to shoot a crain shot the limited tilt angle restrict you from positioning the mobile phone. You may see the ground in that position. Better you go for smooth 5.
@@homemadetastesandtips6525 I agree that OM6 may have some limitations when it comes to certain shooting angles, but ultimately, it depends on individual shooting preferences. Just because there are some angles that can't be captured doesn't mean that the stabilizer is unusable. In fact, if needed, I can even mount my iPhone onto a DJI RSC2 and use a monopod to shoot with virtually no limitations, except for the lack of a stabilizer's shooting button. Overall, the main selling point of OM6 is its portability and convenience, which is why I ultimately decided to purchase it. While it may be true that OM6 has some limitations compared to other stabilizers like the M6 or Smooth 5, I believe that it ultimately comes down to the user's needs and preferences. What may be a limitation for one user may not be an issue for another. Therefore, it's important to consider all factors and determine which stabilizer best suits your specific needs.
Another very helpful video Simon. Your closing comment about not being able to connect an external microphone caught my eye. I did see another YT video showing a microphone transmitter attached and it appeared to be working well, but I wonder whether this practice might place excessive burden on a motor. Comments?
Now I see why you posted the teaser last week. In a future version you can demo the use of accessories and resulting impact on balance: lens, filter, microphone.
For those you mention at 16:05, I did see a reviewer mount a wireless mic receiver on charging port, and you could also fit an L-adaptor between the port and the gimbal body. It shifts the phone slightly, but you should be able to balance it.
Hello. I love how well you explain everything and this video is no exception; I have a question, do: since iphone 15 pro max is out, I use a ssd and a mic to shoot my videos; is there a easy way to accommodate these extras in the hohem isteady M6? Thank you.
Cheers so much the perfect run through and your right such a great design and didn't know inception mode existed plus there was a controller as I'll have to double check the other reviewers if they mention these things 😊❤
The bigger tilt axis is a big advantage compared to the OM6. I didn't notice that the tilt axis restriction of the OM6 before buying it. Not being able to do a forward facing crane shot is a bummer
Decent effort but as you said no way to attach a Rode mike ( unless you can mount the phone and additional lens in reverse) why can’t they have an interchangeable male plug ( IOS/Android) on the motor housing that fits like the scroll wheel on a DJI pocket and the wire running through the motor housing 🤷♂️ I hate syncing audio in post, its never bang on
I have bought the DJI OSMO 6 due to being a complete novice to videography. My needs are to take videos of my 18 months travel around SE Asia eventually ending up in Australia for the Boxing Day test and New Year test at Sydney. All I wanted was to capture the scenery and not selfies. Then post on a RUclips channel so my friends can see where I am. I understand that this has limitations compared to other gimbals but I am a beginner and have to weigh up costs. Maybe if I do get more experience I can upgrade to a better gimbal. I have been given a GoPro Hero 4 to take with me and have a DJI mini 4 k drone and a tripod. I think that’s all someone like me needs to at least get decent videos. My phone is an iPhone 16 ProMax and I will be using either a MacBook Air 2017 model and an IPad Air 12.9 to try and edit on iMovie. Again complete novice and will rely on RUclips tutorials to help me as I’ve never edited a single thing. Thanks for the channel it does help idiots like me at 60 who should know better.😎👍
10:55 Super excited about this feature. The other feature I've been wanting is a 'loose follow' which would allow for a more natural movement within the frame without adjusting so readily. What I've been doing with the Go is to turn off the follow, adjust myself in the shot and then enable follow, move to the new location, etc. It is super convenient to use it that way on a tripod.
Hi Simon. Re the AB motion you said to reset it, hold it down again. When you do that, is there another sound? It seems that after a minute or so, it will to try to go back to point A again. What is the right way to cancel the AB motion? Thanks!
This smart phone, Gimbal is stuffed with cool features that I would like to have on other gimbals as well. Even if I don’t click on and off my smart phone from my OM4 that often, the self balancing function respectively the lack of it is the game changer for me. The manual balancing gimbals seem to be suitable for filmmaking projects, where the gimbal is in use for a longer time. Casual use, vlogging, travels seem to require the magnetic solution from DJI. As always, please merge the features and you get the ideal solution. Hohen, why not designing a gimbal with automatic calibration that is lacking support for heavier smart phones with lenses et cetera?
The limited tilt of the DJI makes it a toy you can’t crane shots!and get VERY limited range of motion. The Hohenzollern is KING in this lineup. Uumless all you use is the poor quality selfie mode of the DJI. The Smooth 5 is a great gimbal also just cup your hands to see modes
That last point you mentioned about not being able to plug in an external mic seems significant. Is there any way around that? Would you have to use a wireless mic then?
Oh so you also had micro movements on the smooth 5 ? First time I used it, all my footages were having these micro shacking, which is ridiculous for a gimbal. Basically almost each shot is unusable. Wasn't sure if that was just me who did it wrong or the gimbal being a bad gimbal. Haven't had a chance to use it since, but seeing your time lapse with all these micro shakings, i guess it's a 'feature'. Anyways. This new model looks pretty cool.
Thanks for your excellent content. It's been very helpful :). How can I connect the Rodes Wireless Pro microphone receiver and the Rode Videomicro II to my Iphone when it's being held by the Hohem iSteady M6? They both use a cable connection...
I'm glad I stumbled across your video! I had the OM3 and now I have the s22 ultra it's just too heavy. I eventually was thinking about trying adding extra lenses etc but I know the OM3 can't hold my phone now. I like the old style gimbal not the OM arm. I never heard of hohem until recently and it seems like the one I may get it.
How can you manage your s22u with an gimble? It s work with 30fps and many of the features like zoom aren t working so you use this gimble like a pro selfie stick, no?? I have an s23 and i m strugling with there gimbles
This is like the smart phone gimble we never knew we had to have! I love the fact that Hohem tried to allow you to use software other than their apps to film, and still get the extras our of the gimble.
Thanks for another excellent video. This was very informative. I have an Hohem iSteady Multi. The most annoying limitation is the joystick cannot move the gimbal diagonally. And, second, whatever direction you want to move, it's either on or off; there is no "fine" or proportional joystick control. With that in mind, did Hohem upgrade the M6's joystick to add either proportional or diagonal controls? Both? Also, is there any possibility of mounting a GoPro on the M6? As you know, a gimbal can help to improve the GoPro's low-light performance and I often mount my GoPro on the Multi. Overall, the M6 looks like a nice upgrade from the Multi. I especially like the AI camera for face-tracking. It looked spot-on when you demo'd it. Thanks again.
Thanks for a great video. One quick question, if I want to use motion tracking feature of gimbal with a teleprompter app like Bigvu, then I guess only Hohem M6 will work, since it can do that without the app, right? I think other gimbals in your comparison require using their own apps so I can't use them in conjunction with Bigvu. I'm on Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra if it matters...
Shouldn't the wheel be supposed to move the tilt (up/down) instead of the roll axis?! FejyuTech G6Max has this and it could be great, the default direction just can't be reversed which makes it super annoying, too. But why fiddle with the horizon during a shot? How do you keep your subject in frame while performing a vertical movement with the M6, that nervous joystick?!
Watched until the end and got one more question. You mentioned mic port is not accessible. Wouldn't it be possible to just place the phone the other way around so that the USB port is open? Please advise as it is very important for me personally. I was planning to use it with wireless mic that requires plugging the receiver in.
Interesting... I just learned about this gimbal and have ordered it from Amazon. I was surprised to hear in your video that holding the trigger doesn't do what most gimbals do... on every other gimbal I've used, holding the trigger locks the camera position so that you can move around without changing the framing. Is this an option here?? If not, I'm afraid the gimbal will have to go back as I use this feature a ton in my work. What a shame...
I have a Samsung S23 Ultra and everything so far seems to be working, except for the zoom. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? Edit, I got the zoom working now too.
Can you activate tracking then using the hohem Bluetooth remote press up so it shows the sky then press down to pan down to you then move so the ai tracking picks you up
Just got this. And though the Ai was just one of the many attractions, I find it utterly unreliable. One in twenty times it recognises gestures. The rest of the time it sits there and does nothing. I’ve tried turning the unit to work with front and reverse cameras, in bright indoors and outdoors, but still no luck. Will be sending it back tomorrow if I can’t get it working. Very disappointing as it otherwise seems very well made.
@@LifeXcape I ended up sending mine back and the replacement is perfect. Best gimbal I’ve ever used. Maybe their quality control isn’t what it should be.
@@Jthe5th Yes, 100% of the time it recognises gestures and follows with accuracy. It seems that the small optional AI module itself was faulty. The replacement is perfect. Also, I should say, even without the AI tracking, the gimbal is great: solid, steady, and with points to add on lights or mics or whatever. A great purchase once I got a properly working module. Bought mine from Amazon and returned the defective model to them and bought a second, just in case. I don’t know how responsive Hohem themselves might be in dealing with returns.
Between this and insta360 which one is better? this one has a and b feature but ai tracking needs combo light package. Also insta looks smaller when packing.
Hello! I can't find any information anywhere, is it possible to simultaneously charge the gimbal while charging the smartphone via the gimbal? Do you know if such a feature is available here?
Hello, can the isteady m6 carry the weight of moment anarmophic and vnd, if you load it up with this together with an iphone 12pro can you shift the phone to connect a much without a need for counter weight
Anyone that bought the m6, hows your experience so far? Been seeing comments about weird overheating issues that causes premature shutdown across review videos which made me skeptical to buy one.
Can the USBC to USBC angled cable connect to a converter, then to a USB for the microphone? Just wondering if someone has tried that. All great information in the video, thank you!
This video was very helpful to me! Well done! I need your help. I am an interior designer and I would like to buy a gimbal to make videos of my projects with my phone. which gimbal die do you recommend: hohem m6 or zhiyun smooth 5? thanks so much for the help
Thanks for the review, Simon. Looks like a great bit of kit! Quick question, can you use the gimbal to track an object as opposed to tracking yourself? i.e. draw a box around an object and as you move around the gimbal will keep locked onto the object.

Just got mine a few days ago, it overheated rihht out of the box, 😂 , hohem still hasnt made contact!
@@LifeXcape I ended up sending mine back and the replacement is perfect. Best gimbal I’ve ever used. Maybe their quality control isn’t what it should be.
@@PoetryFilms Interesting, so now the gestures are recognized how often? Does it follow you reliably now?
@@Jthe5th Yes, 100% of the time it recognises gestures and follows with accuracy. It seems that the small optional AI module itself was faulty. The replacement is perfect. Also, I should say, even without the AI tracking, the gimbal is great: solid, steady, and with points to add on lights or mics or whatever. A great purchase once I got a properly working module. Bought mine from Amazon and returned the defective model to them and bought a second, just in case. I don’t know how responsive Hohem themselves might be in dealing with returns.
Hi what you think about the new Hohem MT2 with Sony 6700 ? Is this great ? Thanks
Between this and insta360 which one is better? this one has a and b feature but ai tracking needs combo light package. Also insta looks smaller when packing.
thanks for this good video. Can I ask - do you have any suggestions for an ND filter you like for Samsung S21 U please?
Hi can the Hohem only track if you have the camera adapter from the kit or does the software manage it on its own? Thank you for the content.
Better go with the insta flow then the OM6
You are my guru

@@SiHorrocksthank you😊
I have a note 20 ultra, saw you had that in the gimbal, any issues supporting the weight of the phone 📱
no weight issues
does this have axis lock problem?
What does the "axis lock problem" mean?
@@IvoPavlik I mean can you lock the axis so it remains in a fixed position?
Any work with phone case on?
Thanks for the review, Simon. Looks like a great bit of kit! Quick question, can you use the gimbal to track an object as opposed to tracking yourself? i.e. draw a box around an object and as you move around the gimbal will keep locked onto the object.
Yes you can 👍🏼
I think to track an object, you need to use the app.
any idea what the range is? will it still work if you're 50 ft or 100 ft
