      It's already a classic but there's so much of them still on the road today that no one declares it. They are all over the place in comparison to any other SUV on the road today. Even then, they still hold their value.

    How does someone without a off-road vehicle get connected enough that when someone has to sell a truck, even 1/4 as great as this one, will be able to make an offer? I search the web and of course find all the dealer listings about cruise control, interior 'packages' and you can't even tell have the time what kind of power train the thing has.
    And I've lived my life buying used. I never mind the scratches and dings I buy, but I always remember that first stupid minor scratch. Maybe some day I'll be rich enough to spec 'pre dinged' for a vehicle -- just for the peace of mind. Great video. Lucky kids.
    My dad had a pretty good truck that I inherited... stole... or maybe I just mowed the weeds so I could get it out of 'permanent yard display'. Whatever it was, I wasn't about to ask for permission. It wasn't on blocks yet, but I did have to use some 2x4s to pick the rusted bed up off the rear tires. (s'that qualify as a lift?) And as a left wing radical, I installed seat belts! Car seats? Completely different meaning back then. For kids? What do you mean? If you were under three, basically you were mom's airbag in a head-on. "Shut up and don't worry, I'll hold onto you tight." Dashboard was stamped out of the same steel as the fenders. ) Sorry, I needed a bit of nostalgia to keep from having to admit, I'll never have as cool a 4Runner as Mike.

      Allen Brown yes sir, 4.30 from the factory. 4.56 wasn’t a big difference, but was what I had in the taco I owned that I pulled all the parts off of. If I was paying to do it again, would probably go 4.88 with the 33’s.

    Nice Video! I have a 3rd gen on 37s and 488s. Thinking about a Altas or Marlin crawl box. Can you drop a link to the Marlin crawl box you installed. Is there any advantage to the dual case setup, compared to the Atlas 2spd?

    • @RogueOverland
      @RogueOverland  3 года назад

      Here’s the link to the Marlin Tacobox: www.marlincrawler.com/transfer-case/line-ups/tacobox
      The benefit to running this vs a 2speed atlas is you have an extra low range. It can run the factory low range, the Marlin 4.7 low range, or stack both low ranges together for super deep, slow, gearing. You could get this same effect if you jumped to an atlas 4 speed case though.

    Very nice rig! Thanks for sharing. I'm learning that my 98 limited has AWD. I don't have the J pattern Tcase. It's the straight pattern with the push button 4wd on the side of the shift knob. Does anyone know how the awd works? Is power sent to the front whenever the rear slips even without the 4wd button pressed. I've had several 4wd yotas but they were all 80's or early 90's. My 98 runner is "modern" to me lol.

    • @nevada4wheelin
      @nevada4wheelin 5 лет назад

      DrFuNK Hey Bud, thanks for the compliment! I had a 96 before this one and i believe it had the same case as yours. It wasn’t all wheel drive though, it was push button 4wd only. The AWD cases actually had AWD on the button and not 4wd, they also had a regular j shift pattern for the 2wd-4wd-4wdL functionality. The neat thing about your particular case, is that you can unplug one of the connectors underneath the truck on the case, and have 2wd low range. You have to actually hit the 4wd button to turn the front ADD on and off. Theres a good write up on T4R.org on all the different transfer cases used in the 3rd gen platform. www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/78448-t-case-differences-all-years-3rd-gens-transfer-case-awd-multi-mode.html enjoy your 3rd!!

      It is on all wheel drive at all times and it is 50 to front and 50 to rear. No electronics, just pure power. Pressing the 4wd buttton locks the center diff and makes a 4wd truck and do not use this feature on dry pavement as that can cause binding. I like the AWD feature. Engage 4wd when you are on soft roads to keep it healthy.

      The 861’s actually still ride great when I’m not loaded down for a trip. I will say that the rear bumper and rear box both live with the truck all the time, so I still have a constant load. But the unloaded and loaded ride quality are still both really good in my opinion.
      The land cruiser shocks are off the rear of an FJ80. It’s been a while so I don’t still have the numbers but if you do a quick search for land cruiser rear shocks on a 4runner it’ll bring up all the part numbers for ya.
      The combination really does ride and flex great!

      If we understand your question correctly, because the crawler is custom to this application, there aren’t any drive shafts that would just swap in. They had to be custom length.
