This yota looks like it rolled straight out from the plant! Unbelievable with no rust and perfect paint I seriously can’t believe how good this thing looks
Awesome looking rig and great daily driver. One of my favorite 90's nostalgia vehicle. Lots of memories in my 99 4Runner that I built up since 2005. Mine is a sleeper and looks stock (lifted 0.25 in to level the rear). Most wouldn't know that its got 2.5" coilovers, heavier springs, drivetrain upgrades (2nd gen supercharger with 2.2 pulley, 7th injector, DT header, xmsn valve body upgrade, xmsn cooler), Tundra brakes, extended sway bar endlinks with disconnects, and underbody armor. I brought it stock with ~60,000 mi and I have put over 150,000 mi on it with the supercharger. I have traveled multiple times from the East Coast to the West Coast with zero breakdowns. It started out carrying just myself after college and expanded to my family of 5 (soon to be 6). It is my daily driver, weekend off-roader, and travel rig (if it is just me). It is highly capable even in stock form (4.30 gear and rear locker) and I often off-road with friends with modified Jeeps, Nissans, Toyotas, and Dodge. Weight is the enemy on these lighter off-road rigs compared to the Land Cruiser platform so I keep my modifications to a minimal. Additionally, I also have a similarly modified GX470 and LX570 for the family overland trips but I prefer to drive this little 4Runner daily because of its simplicity.
Idk if it's the nicest ever but it sure is one of the sweetest 3rd gens I've ever seen. Love his mentality on suspension/tire size. 33s are the sweet spot on 3rd Gens for sure.
I just bought this exact vehicle last night, same color, interior, everything (still stock), 195k miles, $5k. This video has me PUMPED to start adding custom pieces to it :D
My 3rd gen has 468 k. Daily driver. Ev et ything in cab still works. 98 limited 2wd. Still goes anywhere. I never pulled the heads but pulled intake and refreshed everything. Huge screw up i made. Forgot to replace knock sensors that are under intake . So i mounted them on transmission bellhousing bolts. Same thread and metal screws i to the block. It worked . Amazing and durable and still looks young.
@@triedandtrue1820 I was a broke college student and owning a gas guzzling suv was not ideal at the time, sadly and unfortunately. Maybe down the road I could find one and rebuild it since they’ve proven to last forever. That would be a dream.
I have a 97 3rd gen 5 speed stick. I waited 12 years for my friend to sell ot to me she took great care of it. I will start my overland build of it this summer.
This truck is so beautiful. This channel inspired me to build a truck, I just can’t decide between a taco or the 4Runner. 😮💨 it would be my first build ever, I’m super excited. I just want something I can travel out of just like this with my dog
I had a 2000 limited 4runner for 8+ years and 100k miles, I don't regret getting a new tacoma but I still think about my 4runner almost every day. Other than my starter contacts getting corrosion from the ocean air, it was solid with only consumables for maintenance, took me and my dogs everywhere I wanted to go and with style.
One of the cleanest builds I've seen. I can't think of any vehicle I'd trade my SC'd 3rd gen for. The *only* thing this vehicle is missing is a headlight upgrade...a professionally-upgraded LED projector system helps tremendously with night driving. Thanks for sharing.
I have the RHD 3Gen '96 vzn185, had her for 15 years, she's a good las, and finally getting around do bringing her up to scratch again... can't beat em :)
New to the channel. Great content, chill vibe, and super educational for outfitting, gear and tech. One stop shop for all the cool stuff you’d ever want to hear about. Thanks for everything you’re doing.
Ok, firstly absolutely beautiful rig. I love those 3rd gen 4runners and this is a great example of a well done rig, and while a bit over the top for it's intended use it looks and I'm sure works amazing. That said, the comment about the synthetic winch rope had me in stitches. "Save the weight where we can", I mean come one, there has to be over 1k payload over factory on that rig, does the 25lb of difference between synthetic and steel winch really matter? The goosegear kitchen setup alone without the stove or fridge weighs 80lbs. There are plenty of reasons to go with a synthetic rope, but by god did that answer get me. Cool looking rig, hope you guys hang onto it for years to come.
I have two 3rd gennys. One was on the way to the scrapyard and I bought it. I enjoyed bringing it back to life and now someone asks to buy it at least once a week. She has 300,000 miles on her. My other one only has 150,000 miles on her and she runs in the Peach Pass lane of Atlanta at least one a week. Both 4 Runners are like new and sweet rides. The new 2022 retro Land Cruisers LC70s are just like these old third generations in so many ways. Toyota got it right when they made these.
Add the URD 7th Injector and put in the K&N cold air intake. I added a TRD supercharger to my 3.4L years ago. I've been chasing a hiccup while accelerating. Thought maybe more fuel would help. So I put in the 7th injector. I did help a little but still had a little hiccup. I just recently added the K&N cold air intake and now the hiccup is gone. The motor runs smooth.
Love that truck. Me and buddy just got back from the Moore Midwest Overlanding Expo. Awesome expo unfortunately didn’t get to meet Clay, maybe next time . Like I said awesome truck.
I personally upgraded my third GEN radiator to an all aluminum TriCore Champion radiator, And that snow you may be fine but if you’re going to South America you’re gonna want to keep that vehicle as cool as possible
Nice 4runner. I have all this stuff on my 1999 4runner plus more. I have the same feeling i can go around the world. Great tracks thanks to Japanese manufacturer
this is basically the direction I'm taking my e-locked 5 speed 3rd gen. one thing I cant figure out is where they got the rest of the goose gear sleeper platform from. they only sell the back part not the part that goes over the seats.
I have one with 350000 miles my dad bought it years ago used and he loves it so much he doesn't want to sell it. I'm thinking of modding it and using it as an offroad vehicle.
Enjoyed video. A little quick on tires (makes a difference on little rigs). After review of General tire, 285 tires E rated. Regearing for extra load (Clay really needs a better walk around, also had audio problems, wasn't a true walk around mainly theory)?
This one looks to be from Long-range America longrangeamerica.com/prod/tsurf97a/ But one of the common upgrades for 3rd gens is getting the f150 as an auxiliary tank which there is a writeup online.
Can I ask where to find a rear gate with spare tire and fuel can mount for the gen 3? I’m having no luck. Everything I search comes back for 2010 and up. Would like a ladder also.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’ve read in the past that you can’t drive from North America to South America. There’s a stretch in Panama/Colombia where it is impassable. Great rig though!
