- In this video I'll show you how you can create a procedural stump texture in Blender. Any feedback you have for me is helpful, I am finding it tricky sometimes to strike a balance between explaining everything and feeling long winded.
Thanks for watching!

Thank you! That is very helpful.
Instead of separating and squaring the x and y and then adding them to make a circle, you could simply connect the object coordinates to a vector math node set to length
Thanks for the tip, appreciate it!
It also works with distance in vector math so is there any difference between distance and length
Amazing tutorial but I would like to apply this material to a non cirular face. I want to reproduce the inside of a rock (Agate) cut in half but i can't keep the circular rings, they got distorted
I think what would work pretty well is using a gradient node set to spherical instead of the sepxyz and math nodes, should create a sphere rather than a 2d circle/cylinder
doesnt really work when working on a trim texture sheet. the details just appear in somewhere in the upper corners of the working area. i managed to fix the rings by using a mapping node, but i cant get any of the other details you worked on to show up
as I resize the stump I loose all detail... what did I do wrong
My guess is that you resized it in object mode which scales the texture too. Applying the scale with ctrl+A might work, or you could try sizing it up in edit mode. Let me know if that works.
