The only thing people are leaving out of the reason to upgrade is that apple will give you $360 back on your ultra 1 now , If you wait that number is going to go down until you have to sell it yourself.
Great point! That’s a solid reason to upgrade but I think the ultra 3 will finally have satellite service without a phone. Which makes me want to upgrade yet again
@@justmattgray They are giving $360 on a trade in , But because of the new chip, more memory and the chance to get the newest software because of the onboard phone with Siri. I think the Watch one will drop in value much faster ( if a mother trade in is available ) Its like renting the newest if Apple keeps buying back .
The AWU1 goes into auto nightmode as well. Also the brightness really isn’t that different despite the number difference. The only real reason to get the Ultra 2 is if you’re a tech enthusiast and just have to have the latest and greatest. ( I am one of those people) but even I can’t find a reason to get it. If you have Ultra1 don’t buy it. If you have an Apple Watch that isn’t the Ultra just buy an Ultra 1 used or get it at its new discounted price. And for those of you trying to find an excuse to buy it because you want something new just get yourself a new watch band. You’re welcome 🙏
I have an Ultra 1 and was considering upgrading to the Ultra 2, but ended up getting the Series 10 instead. Now I can go with either look. I have still been considering picking up a refurbished Ultra 2 in excellent condition off of Amazon, but it’s probably not worth it, considering there aren’t that many changes between the Ultra and the Ultra 2.
I own U1 and tried U2 in store.. imo there is no difference - buy whichever cheaper. Assistive Touch on my U1 works great, just disable everything but double tapping + minizine the visual effect, it looks even better than U2's double tapping
My experience between Ultra 1 and 2: - buttons feel about the same when clicking, but Digital Crown turns easier (less tight) on Ultra 2. - Speed is "snappier", especially in the new widgets view - I can't tell the brightness difference in person - Double tap works more consistently than AssistiveTouch - No other noticeable differences
Watched your video few days ago and came back to say you are definitely right about the buttons and the digital crown. No one else has mentioned this. -The Action button and digital crown is more “clicky” sounding on the AWU2 and easier to press compared to AWU1. -There is indeed less resistance with the crown on the AWU2 vs the AWU1. -However its the opposite with the normal side button. More clicky on the AWU1 vs AWU2. Overall happy with my AWU2. Its a snappier, faster experience overall. Animations are smoother as well. Definitely a difference!
@@justmattgray I got a refurb so Im able to return if I change my mind but yeah Im not sure if I would upgrade if I already had the U1 for a while. Ive never had a smartwatch but I remember when the U1 came out I said “oooo this is the one I want!” but decided it was too expensive. Finally saw refurbs for good deals recently and got to try the U1 for a week. Loved it but the experience was a little laggy and not consistent compared to the snappiness of other Apple products Im use to. I bit the bullet and went for an open box U2 and instantly noticed the differences. I paid a little more but ah whatever its Christmas. 😂 The U1 is going back next week. 🤣
Enjoyed the video, but you didn’t talk at all about double tap. If you download the public beta, you can start using it right away and it actually is amazing. I bought the ultra 2 coming from a stainless steel 7 but I seriously thought of returning it to buy a used ultra 1, but after playing with double tap and for the difference in price I’m keeping my Ultra 2.
@@justmattgray so the public beta is on beta three and I haven’t had any issues at all even with the first beta. I actually started using the public beta on my iPhone, because I actually was having a lot of issues with iOS 16 and iOS 17 beta seemed to resolve them all. But on the watch, I’ve never had any problems at all and we’re so close to the final release that I wouldn’t worry about trying it out now. Surprisingly double tap doesn’t do a lot, but where I use it the most is with Apple Music and its playlists. I’m riding a bicycle. I find it dangerous to take both hands off the handlebars and to try to advance to the next song with my left hand on the handlebar is awkward and almost as dangerous. But with double tap, I can steer the bike with my right hand And then double tap to skip the next song. May not sound like a big deal but it’s huge. You also get a little icon that pops up the confirms that double tap worked. It’s also nice for hanging up a call. I frequently use my AirPod pros but now, you have to double squeeze on the stem to hang up which I understand why because single squeeze didn’t work with call waiting or other services, but just being able to do it with double tap is faster and easier than trying to squeeze my AirPod Pro 2. I’ve only had the Ultra 2 for two weeks but so far I’m loving it.
So regarding the onboard Siri, since it uses cellular, do you have to have the cellular plan for the Siri to work quicker? In other words since I don't have the cellular plan for my Apple Watch ultra 1, will the Apple Watch ultra 2 be any quicker?
Siri will perform quicker when doing functions that it would normally use the phone for. if internet is needed then it won’t work without your phone near by it.
