Toyota’s don’t leak they just expel old useless oil. Lol
Even after 15 years of previously light Florida Lexus ownership? I think not!
This is tru
@@davidkrocks no that's exactly what they do. My '01 GS300 barely broke 118k miles, leaks like a pig, but every single time you check the dipstick, has enough oil. At this point I just don't bother questioning it. It has its own, whatever it's leaking isn't affecting it
All of my classic Toyota sportscars leak oil. They also start right up the first time every time and the oil level rarely drops a noticeable amount. It’s just how they are.
It's like that Craigslist ad for a '98 Corolla; "One day my Corolla made a funny noise. I didn't give a shit. It went away"
I like that you guys don’t cut away scenes where you made a mistake or changed your mind.
Love this series - can't way to see the shootout after all this work.
I'm still waiting for the Evo vs STi shootout..
Those vibrant lines and fittings are car porn.
I bet Pete's got some parts in the stash that would fit a mars rover.
NASA: The thermocouples on the radioisotope generators on the Curiosity rover are experiencing stress line fracturing and failure is projected in several days
Pete: So I went into the stash and I think we can make this radiator from a 83 Chevy Citation work.
Little tip from a tech guys, when using a file, to lenghten it's useable life, it is recommended to file only in the frontwards direction. The file teeth are directionnal and filing back and forth rather than only frontwards renders the file dull prety quickly ;) I love your videos btw, this is just friendly advice
I will file that away for the next time this dull instrument (that's me) uses such a tool.
A single bastard file is meant to file in one direction. A double bastard file is meant to file in both directions. So, it would depend on what style of file they were using. But, I agree, it looks like it was a single bastard and should have only been used in the Push direction.
@@antbymcnair4297 You are right, it is a detail I missed
@@speedacademydave good one lol
For everyone asking- the TB CANNOT be rotated in any other orientation as the bolt holes are offset on both sides.
On the flat head bolts where Dave put sealant on to keep them from falling out of the aluminum piece, how do you prevent the bolts from spinning when you're tightening down the supercharger?
I should have sought out this comment mid episode. My internal monologue was SCREAMING to at least try it.
All praise the almighty The Stash
The Stash worketh in mysterious ways
The Stash doth provide in thine greatest time of need
Its love and bounty is endless
We give thanks to you, o’ Mighty The Stash.
😂the stash did indeed save the day once again!
14:13 strapping a blower on a V8 is hotrod activity 😎
I'm so excited for this project! Thanks for keeping at it! This series is great.
Everyone needs a stash, I pity the fool that doesn't save all those pieces "just in case"
That's me exactly. Nah man, definitely not an oil leak in my turbo. That white smoke must be condensation.
one does not simply finish a supercharger install..
loving the LS430 build. Ford S/C on a Lexus is so cool and the fact you're "chasing" an -wagon M5 (still super cool but my heart is with the LS...) as the benchmark is just like yes, please more and more and more
shame you didn't get the motor running but that's all part of the build realities isn't it ;)
That metal coolant hose was a very popular item back in the day at Canadian Tire haha.
Always the best place to get your go-fast parts ;)
Hopefully we get to hear this car run can’t wait
Now imagine if they took measurements on the fuel lines and sold as a kit.
We'll take measurements and list all the part #'s for you guys once we're done and have everything sorted out.
@@speedacademydave hell yea!!! With age these platforms are going to get all modded to hell and back!!! Mine included!!!
@@speedacademydave Any word on the parts list? I’ve got my 112m charger and waiting for my plate from Elate to arrive.
I'm a little late to this but any chance you guys made that list of measurements for this fuel lines?
My wife is going to kill me now that I see I can use cookie sheets as garage tools, so my coolant doesn't drip all over the motor. Hehehehehe
you can also use your home dishwasher as a parts washer 😂
I was a helicopter mechanic in the Army, CH-47, lots of torque items on the suckered and I like the sound of Newton Meters better than ft/lbs.
Really enjoying this series.
The tease to get to the end of this project is worth the wait. Can’t wait to see the LS up and running with the supercharger
I’ve been following This channel since the Brz
Again I can't thank you enough for venturing through this Lexus .I've been researching the 2001 model super hard loaded version of this with the massaging seats the refrigerator in the back and the full control the radio from the back seat I love this car the only thing is tuning where I am at nobody does it I need to go 300 miles from where I'm at to Houston or San Antonio in order to get my car tuned what you do and how you do is just inspiration the fact that you took it on is super dope I look forward to what is to come
It would be awesome if Aaron welds up some headers for the M5. That header build off he was amazing and knew tons of info. Cool to see him stop in.
That weld job on the fuel line looks absolutely perfect👌😍
I can’t wait to get my hands on a tig welder one day and master it. I feel like it’s a lot easier to make good looking welds with tig compared to mug welding. Still working on my mig skills but I’ll perfect it one day.
The kit should come with alignment dowels for the silver adapter plate. That way it is guided directly into the correct spot. This way you don’t risk getting a leak because the flange sealant was thinned out from moving around the plate to line up the holes. Then just remove the studs once torqued down.
That's a good idea. We'll pass that along to Elate.
Permatex orange threadlocker is awesome stuff! Holds more than Blue but does not require heat like Red.
Yesssss. Couldn’t wait for this
My favourite youtubers! So glad I found you guys. I live near London but I wanna go to that 242 customs shop for some body work some time.
I’m going through some issues with my 335i it’s really upsetting but seeing this makes me genuinely feel a little better so thanks guys
Luke and Mike at @242 do great work. Well worth the trip from London.
@@speedacademydave thanks bro that’s good to hear. It definitely appears so after watching that civic series
Im thinking about doing this to my GS430. You may want to relocate the power steering reservoir so you can make a more straight path for intake piping. Good work!
I don't care if this is a shorter video, that welding should be pixelated because it's practically pornography
In regards to the PS valve with the two vacuum lines, most LS guys just loop that valve or cap it off with a bolt on the actual power steering pump. They tend to leak a lot and in the end the valve doesn’t really affect too much when it’s capped off
Good to know, thanks for the tip! 👍
Definitely bring Aaron back if you can, always nice to watch a pro work
You know your a fan when you don’t skip the adds.
That top plate with the countersunk bolts looks like it would be better with a stud step up rather than the counter sinks,
The countersink looks like lots of opportunity to spin in the hole
DP showing up to flex with the Lexus on my Saturday morning 💪
#FLEXXXUS
@@speedacademydave the triple x just really sets it off
@@doctorlobsteroctopus I like to keep it classy like that
Man Aaron's work was solid. Custom made parts like nothing.
Nice fuel line solution, but the reason why manufactures run the fuel feed line to one fuel rail on one bank, and then run a hard steel line from the primary rail on bank one over to the other rail on bank 2, is because the fuel rail itself is considered a “fuel reservoir” and the pressure stays consistent on both rails, also you usually see the return line on the slave rail with the fuel pressure regulator, which slows the return of the fuel down back to the tank, again - keeping the pressure “inflating” the fuel rails.
I love these videos. Two totally different approaches. Is it true, that it helps you guys financially, if I don't skip ads? I watch them from beginning to end now just in case. :)
Always respect the stash. Saved me so many times. Also, that supercharger looks killer on there, ngl 😍
Cigarette, coffee and Speed Academy, a perfect morning 🌄 👌
Replace cigarette with breakfast and I'm right there with ya!
I'm working on a crank / no start for my 13 lexus GS350. Apparently the fuel pressure sensor causes a short in the ECU when it goes bad and causes the car to malfunction.
When turning the car on to accessories the radiotor fans turn on immediate and blast on high and I cannot communicate to the ECU with OBD scanners.
Working in this freezing ass toronto weather makes me jealous of people who have shops but you guys gave me motivation to work on my own car.
You need to cap that power steering switch valve off completely they are know to leak all over the alternator. All you need is a oil pan drain plug and plug the switch valve directly at the power steering pump. I’ve done this to a Toyota pick up, my SC400 and LS400
Thanks man, a few others have suggested this too. I've put it on our To Do List 👍
Can we get a sneak peak at the stash? I now think it's some sort of magical place 🤣
2:20 ~WEEEEEELLLLLLL Ya get down the fiddle and you get down the bow. Take off your shoes and you throw em on the floor~
Another good way to get belt lengths is to run to Ikea and grab a few of thier paper (free) tape measures. I've done that a bunch of times.
Try Figs front lower control arms bushings. Will feel amazing. Be nice for your set up
I just changed the valve cover gaskets on my LS430 a few months ago as they were leaking. It was pretty poetic because I’ve lost all my love for BMW after getting upset with all the maintenance. 🥲Anyways, if you do it, allot yourself a whole hour for the oil dipstick bracket screw.
You could add vacuum lines to your adapter elbow for the power steering
Heater control valve.lol looking forward to the end of this series, as I am the proud owner of an 04 ls430 black on black with sport suspension option that i love almost as much as my little French bulldog i am interested to see how this turns out.
Seriously you have built my dream car.
It looks like that coolant hose is longer on the side you want to shorten. It looks like you could pull it off and flip it to possibly get some extra clearance.
Was thinking the same thing, the stock hose may have been on backwards to start with.
We looked at that when we had it off but unfortunately it hits the overflow tank that way.
Great build off, loving it!
Love the videos guys, can't wait to see this thing fire up!
Pete is like my beloved grandfather who also never threw anything away.
Does 'PT' also have a million screws sorted into little 'Gerber' baby food jars ?
As a matter of fact he does, although they're sorted in a fancy little cabinet rather than baby food jars 😂
I have a 2002 Toyota v6 (made in Japan) and my valve cover gaskets were leaking and went to change and all the bolts had backed out and could be removed with your fingers. I think you should do the valve gaskets while your there.
isnt the coolant in the throttle body regulating the warm up RPM's? wont the car be stuck in permanent warm up mode, because the coolant isnt heating it up?
You can replace that idle up valve with a bolt of the same thread pitch. It's big on the ls400 cause they tend to leak onto the alternator so we just delete that valve and replace with a bolt
@SPEED ACADEMY Could I have or buy that Mr. Gasket hose kit? That would help me finish my project. Love this build, can't wait to see this one finished!
Not sure if the hose ends are the same diameter, but you might be able to flip the hose. That would give you more length on the supercharger belt side and tuck it closer to the radiator.
Love me some Vibrant Performance stuff!!
My Ls400 has little leaks here an there due to old seals and gaskets. Look for the crank seal, cam seals, valve cover gaskets and the VVTI sprockets sometimes spring a leak. Replace those and you should be oil leak free for a loong time.
Vibrant needs to sell that fuel line for this kit.
You should put silicone around bolts now it may leak thru the bolts holding aluminum plate to lower intake
Yep toyota used to love putting those intricate banjo fuel lines on their vehicles
I like that you can't decide whether it's a "Celeeka" or "Celicka."
Looking at the OG rad hose, it looks like if you flipped it you'd get the clearance you need? the end going into the rad could go into the engine and would move the whole hose toward the rad.
Still waiting on the EVO, STI head to head!
I wanted to see you guys try using the factory coolant hose but flipped around, it looked like it might have worked in the opposite orientation.
My gs430 could use some supercharging. Love the content!
Ahhh the leaking LS heater tap... The only issue I've ever had with my Ls's haha
Best !!! Good laughs and great progress !
Anaerobic sealant, the agriculture (tractor) industry has been using that for years.
Awesome video!
Don't forget to have a look at the pcv system now that you're adding boost. If you don't want that small oil leak to become a major issue
It will all be plumbed pre-boost 👍🏼
Tune it right with a nice loud exhaust and 125hp NOS. Originally a race engine design, the quiet 3UZ-FE actually has great V8 sound when uncorked. That sound adds as much driving fun as another 100hp. Keep the Ford puffer far away. I'd sooner find a rare bad runner for cheap and just chop in 585hp LS crate motor. The Toyota gem is some kind of perfect as is.
1:17 when you buy expensive pliers so you must use it :D
Also, I bet that valve cover leak is just a matter of loose valve cover bolts. The UZ V8s are known for those bolts coming loose. Torque to spec, good to go!
Cool, will check that out, thanks for the tip!
I love this build!
I was hoping to hear it run!! But bummer you ran into a few minor issues!
I have a 98 1uz vvti swap in my Lexus is200/300. Would love to do this or a low boost turbo set up.
What would be the max boost the 3uz can take. I know a lot has to come in to it.
Was thinking 8-10 psi with a hx35 turbo.
Can’t wait to see more of the car.
You’ve got me on marketplace right now.. lol
Hey guys i’m in talks with 507 garage and they have helped piece together a kit for my GS400. Everything seems doable except the AN fuel line that you guys split.
Great videos on the LS btw. Step by step install is really helpful. Where would i get the 5lb pulley and what size belt would i need? Thanks in advance
@LexusMob hit me up. I just started my gs400/m112 build. Would love to trade lessons learned.
Any plans to sell this car when your done? I’ll buy it
I’ll bid, I want it. Got a lexus and want to add this to my collection
@@zali9657 lol I’m just trying to make it my daily. No collection here 😜
Random request... can you guys do a How-To video on attacking TMP?
I feel like we need to see a video of this stash
Honest question: could this series have been possible with any other brands besides Lexus and BMW?
Volkswagon-Audis, Jaguars, Cadillac, Volvos are better off not messing with.
Mercs and Acura’s are already maxing out their transmission/engine performance tolerances; more performance can be had, but at what cost.
Infiniti might be able to do something with some weird turbo Nissan work.
The 'secret stash' saves the day again! "Better to have it and not need it v.s. you need it but don't have it"
If the hose is the same size on the radiator just flip it it should give more clearance next to the belt.
I can't wait to see how this turns out! Is there a link to the supercharger adapter plate? A friend of mine is looking at ls430's
You'll see all the links in the video description.
@@monkeyCmonkeyDoo it links to the website, not the plate. Can't find the plate!
@@BIMMERZEITT we're using the VVTi non-intercooled manifold, here's the link: elatemfg.com/product/elate-1uz-vvti-supercharger-manifold-kit/
@@speedacademydave Thanks David! I subbed your personal channel too. Cheers.
How about flipping the upper coolant hose so the radiator side is hooked up to the thermostat housing
Dang, I waited through the entire episode hoping you would notice that it is going to be a little difficult to tighten the nuts on the blower to manifold bolts.
Could you put a spacer in between the elbow and the intake manifold instead of in between the throttle body and elbow? So it spaces straight out away from the fuel rail
1:13 suggestion, spray silicone on it. It will make it way easier to come out.
Quality content every time.
Love the series. Keep it up
What kind of engine is that?? I love the videos of this car!
6:35 Can you swap the fuel rails around, so it crosses in the front?
If I had to take a wild guess, the bolt holes that hold the fuel rail in place wouldnt line up anymore
interesting idea, we never tried that, but I'm guessing that Justin is right that the bolt holes wouldn't line up and because the bosses for the bolts are on one side of the rail it might also move the rail too far inboard and foul on the manifold. Top marks for creative thinking on your part, though!
@@speedacademydave I looked at a picture again and the rails are NOT mirrored, like we initially thought. They should fit if you rotate the assembly 180 degrees, horizontally. Hmmm, I wonder if anyone has ever tried it.
@@MrDannyd9 well I'm intrigued enough to go have a look tomorrow. I'll let you know if it works.
DP you should make a full cold air intake for the LS
Stock airbox is already cold air intake, it gets air from directly behind front grill. parts.lexusofpembrokepines.com/v-2005-lexus-ls430--base--4-3l-v8-gas/electrical--powertrain-control A pod filter on a stick is only going to raise intake temperatures, which are already an issue with a supercharger, particularly with a roots style blower.
@taznz1's got it, the OE airbox has a really nicely integrated cold-air duct so we want to retain it. Where there are real gains to be made on this car is with the PPE headers, but they're a bit pricy and not a lot of fun to install, so we'll see what kind of power we pick up from the blower before deciding on exhaust side options.
Just put some bolts with washers on the throtle body to position it and make the inlet piping. Then make a spacer.
Yup, that or cut off the flange, rotate it, weld it back on. Lots of options, but Elate is making us a new elbow to solve the problem. That way other LS guys can order the correct elbow for their OE fuel system and know it'll fit up without any drama.
