Hey guys! Been following this from the beginning and have been impressed and learned a ton! Few suggestions that future LS owners might want to know. 1) the bushing you pressed out you can actually replace the entire assembly for pretty cheap as the newer IS/GS uses the same bushing with an aluminum housing part number 48075-30030 and 48076-30030 you just need to remove the large washer the original comes with and install it without it. 2) rear fenders can be shaved for clearance, do not roll them they will buckle, shave them. Don't shave them flat leave a bit of lip and sand it smooth. If you shave it all the way down, anything that hits that quarter will crumple it. The lip gives it rigidity. Just some things to point out that I've learned! Thanks again for all the content!
I have a 2006 LS430 with 300k miles on it that gets driven hard in the northeast. Only maintenance I’ve ever had to do was the timing chain and an exhaust sensor. When this goes I’ll buy another one. It’s also on a set of Megan EZ coil overs that are still going strong after 200k miles on them.
Actually you're quite lucky to get all those rear arms out, without lowering the subframe like on almost all euro multilinks 😅

Just had lower the subframe in my LS400 because all the arm bolts were rusted to the bushing sleeves...so it happens even on the best JDM sedans

You’re always going to put micro swirls in the paint when you touch it. You can mitigate it by using a product such as quick detailer, spray wax, or ONR. Something along that line will help.

When your using the bushing press tool with the cups, it helps to warm the metal around the bushing up with a torch. I do this and even my largest bushings pop out in seconds
Good tip! Press it till the pump resistance is felt, then torch the outside cast iron of the bushing evenly to expand and break loose. After the initial pop, the pressing will then be much easier the rest of the bushing

Make sure to pre load the suspension with a jack before tightening the bolts on the chassis and sub frame! Tightening them with no load will cause them to slightly twist the bushings when the vehicle is place back on the ground causing premature wear.
Torquing suspension bushing ends without the normal weight of the car loading on the wheels will definitely speed fail the rubber parts of the bushings

You guys should get some ONR in a pump bottle for quick clean ups. Could have blasted the metal off the paint and used a towel gently. Or some iron remover then ONR.
I’m a LS430 fan. Y’all are only reinforcing that. If you’re accepting suggestions I personally Would also like to see content over the R18 8th gen civic platform. I drive a Windsor built version.
For the paint: Always lubricate even when wiping :)
Yep the lube-up innuendo applies here too. Throw some suds on or at least quick detail spray when wiping down paint.
Dave is winning on spirit of the challenge. Only one Lexus was purchased and used for the challenge.
I wouldn't recommend using a dry towel on paint. Always lube with at least a quick detail spray or some soapy water. Doing it dry one time as gently as you did probably isn't going to do a whole lot of noticeable damage though. Loving all your videos guys!

My field of work is computer programming and sometimes I wish I had become a mechanic so I can work on cars like you guy's do.
It's never to late to start. All you need is a generic tool set, a spot to park a car incase its broke and a spare ride. I suggest getting a highly tunable car like a civic, 240 or vw/audi. There's a ton of videos online for almost anything you want to do.
I have a 2001 LS 430 with 190,000 miles on it and it never had any of the problems that you guys even experienced. Don’t know about that one guy with his $20,000 in maintenance but mine has been an absolute dream to me

@18:08 - You should have done a rinse and wash with soapy water before you went in with dry microfiber cloth that should only be used for drying... doing it otherwise is scratching the paint.

We got a 2001 and a 2005 and we love them and they're very reliable I don't know what he's talking about, our 2005 has ACCUAIR suspension airbags ride on it love it

In regards to 18:10, it looks like you were using spray wax which is good. It's best practice to fold the towel into quarters so you have 8 sides. Wipe once. If it's dirty, you flip to a different side. Always wipe in a straight line so if you do scratch it's straight and not swirls that you have to chase. Then again you have the most difficult color to keep shiny :). Build is coming along great.
Please paint the brake callipers black, would really set the wheels of nicely.

@18:00 Use a quick detailer, spray on wipe ONE time with each side of the microfiber cloth. Wipe fold, wipe fold to minimize scratching.

I love HardRace bushings, they have OEM feel but with more stiffness. When my original bushings went out on my LCA's on my 94 civic, I bought some cheapo RockAuto stuff to replace them, and they lasted only a few months before they went bad. Decided to go with HardRace after that, and they're still as solid as they were when I pressed them in many months ago. Good stuff!
Do you preload them before tightening the bolts?

My 2006 gs430 with the 3uz has been the most amazing vehicle I have ever owned. Just routine maintenance. I have over 215k and drives like the day I bought it. POR makes a 6 pack of little cans. If I lose one after sitting for a while I did not lose a whole quart.

Were the bushes aligned correctly before they were pressed in as they are directional? There is a top reference due to the internal oil spaces which will fail early if twisted relative to the metal outer. There is also a back and a front depending on the side they are fitted. I know this because the one's a garage fitted failed early due to misalignment and I had to get them redone. Ironically I went with polythene buses from PSB as they last longer and give a better driving feel.

When wiping on paint always use a lubricant, also fold your microfiber into a 4fold square and always wipe on direction. When done wiping in a straight line, fold and repeat. That way you wont micromar your paint or introduce scratches
most recent dealer fleecing I encountered was my dad's 4runner had an o2 sensor heater code. Toyota quoted $1600 to replace both upstream sensors. I ordered myself some o2 sensors for $350 and replaced but code remained... turns out they pulled the o2 heater circuit fuse and put it back in the wrong spot then proceeded to give that wild quote. Make work job looks like... Took me about 30 minutes each to replace those sensors.
Hey Dave, love your channel! Just a comment about your throttle body issue....why not rotate the throttle body 90 degrees so the electronics are on top? My BRZ with edelbrock supercharger uses this solution and it works just great, no issues . No need for an additional spacer. Simple solutions are the best! Keep up the great content!

I use regular gs350 bushings and you can get negative offset or positive offset and they are aluminum lexus part number 48075-30030 48076-30030 or type In lower control arm bushings for gs350 look for think design urethane bushings they are about 350 for a pair tho..you will feel the diffrence with urethane no slop.
Love the build , ss brake lines and caliper paint would complement the suspension over haul nicely
Yes, you are scratching the paint. Key is, never contact the paint dry. Always keep an Instant detailer spray handy 🤙🏽

Took my new purchase, a cream puff 2005 ls430 to the dealer for an inspection. They quoted over $2200 for a timing belt and over $500 for serpentine belt. Oh, and $140 for an air cabin filter. Safe to say I won't be going back anytime soon.

i know the older ones have a wiring harness in the fender on the driver side that you have to tuck when slamming these. im unsure about these new ones but you might wanna take of that fender and see if you can tuck that harness because the wheel will rub through the inner finder and hit that harness

Fluid film on threads! Are you sure you’re working on cars in Canada? Anti-seize all the way! And you should check out the video from Repair Geek on Por15 pretty surprising results after a year outside.
Don't forget that wheels flex when you drive so even if you have a few mm of clearance, you can still have a problem of rubbing in some cases.

Technically you should not clean the metal dust off with just a dry microfiber, usually, you could reduce scratching by using a quick detail spray or waterless wash in combination with the towel. Hope this helps.

For the POR15 you can use a propane torch (not lit) to shoot a bit of propane in to displace the air and prevent the paint from hardening.
I use various sizes mason jars to store the remaining amount with as little air gap as possible. I suppose I could rig a nipple in the lid to create vacuum but so far it's unnecessary.

Aren't you guys worried about the length between the CV joints being shortened by bringing in the track width? Usually there is some axial play but maybe check to make sure it isn't bound up? Keep in mind at full droop when making the adjustments the length is longer than compressed at ride height so you'd have to check it on the ground.
Choosing a different wheel width and/or offset to avoid rubbing would be a better solution than shortening control arms which may bind the axles
The only thing I let the dealership do is the oil change, (& that's only to help me sell the car when the time comes) but the Lexus stealership in indianapolis tried to sell me brake pads and a brake fluid change for over $1,300.00 on my 2006 LS! So $5k for suspension work at the dealership probably isn't too far off (Especially if it's air suspension from the UL model).
I had one of these. $5K for suspension issues sounds about right if it's involving wishbones and you hand it over to the dealer. It's still expensive if you do it yourself, but way more manageable.
Shocks are also expensive. And the amplifier, which sucks and is the weakest component in this car, breaks often and costs like $3000 if you have the face-lift with the ML audio package.
Incredible car, super reliable, but a nightmare when it does break because parts are stupid money and it's not a super easy car to work on. I regret selling it.
poor bushing didnt get a second chance in life. I had a similar issues with the rear of my ls430. The car rubbed the rear tires to the point that it chewed a little bit of the tires. My Ls430 has coilovers that are non adjustable though, the fix...found out that it had 1 inch spacers that caused this issue, so out they went. No idea why the previous owner had them on but they did make it look good though. I did slightly rolled the edges too
who is wealthy enough to have a hoist in their garage....So what you're doing is for the masses that uses jack stands. well worth seeing how I can do this to my Lexus. Thank you for your struggles. Much appreciated!
