The most important thing that anyone can learn when they watch this video is that video poker is a much better game to play than a slot machine. Also, they should learn how to read a video poker paytable to make sure they are playing the game with the best possible return. People know when they go to a casino that they will probably lose. Video poker will allow them to lose less and to make their bankroll last longer.
listening to this vid a few years back really helped me out and opened my eyes.monthly,i get $150 of freeplay that i use to play only video poker.just yesterday i left the casino with $240 of the casino's cash.and i still got $75 more coming to me in a couple weeks.not to mention, because i sit at the bar i get my drinks really fast.i drink stella and jack.at my local bar that costs me about $14 a round.at the casino,a $3 tip lol.plus all the free rooms and stuff,....
I would agree with your statement. There are some "professional" players, but usually they are looking for some special promotion at a casino to make it worthwhile for them to play. It might be multiple points, extra cashback, or something similar. Some pros will also chase a progressive jackpot if it puts the machine into positive territory. For most players, however, they are simply getting a much better game for their money by making their bankrolls last much longer.
I've been using your strategies over the last 3 months and I've never walked out with less than when I began.... or in another words, I ALWAYS walk out with extra cash. Mind you I'm not getting rich, but when I walk out with extra cash in my pocket plus dinner and gas money as well, I consider that a very good day!! So thank you!!
Actually, you should be losing money on most sessions. Even if you play perfect basic strategy about 2% of the return is in the royal flush. Therefore, you should be losing at a rate of about 2% until you hit that royal and then it will bring your bankroll back up. In the meantime, however, you should be able to enjoy the comps and cashback generated by your play.
@@TheJackpotGents I only allot myself $20 to play and always stop if I'm ahead, even if just $10. Like I said, I'm not getting rich, but I'm not losing.
Glad to see that you like the video. Unfortunately, there is a lot of bad information out on the internet about how slots and video poker games work. The information is in this video is factually correct and it can help you to become a better player in the casinos. Ideally, you want to get away from slots and only play video poker. The paybacks are much better on VP and, with practice, you can learn how to play your hands properly to achieve the highest payback percentages.
i have played full-pay Deuces Wild at Sam's Town in Las Vegas. The expected return on that game, with perfect play and maximum coins bet, is 100.76%. The game is also widely avalable at many Reno casinos.
For each one coin reduction on the pay table for a Jacks or Better game the effect is to reduce the overall payback by about 1.1%. When you go back to print out the 8/5 strategy, take a look at the link for "Video Poker Paytables" click on that and you will see a listing of various pay tables and how changes affect the payback percentages. Be sure to look at the Deuces Wild games. When the only change is that the payback for four-of-a-kind is reduced from five to four the % reduction is huge.
I played a lot of video poker while I lived in Vegas I hit a royal flush 4 times 3 of them were on progressive machines I didn't get rich but it was fun and I walked out everytime with more money than I started with.
I basically try to play a break-even game of video poker. This allows me to take advantage of the casino comp system and not lose a lot of money. As part of these benefits I get to to see many free concerts at the casino near me, plus I save money when I travel to Las Vegas by getting free hotel rooms. I have been lucky this year and I am ahead several thousand dollars. Full-pay deuces wild is a game with a more than 100% return. You can find some in Reno. Also, in Vegas at off-strip casinos.
It would depend on the paytable of the machine. Usually, you want to play the game with the highest paying paytable. However, some games, such as Double Bonus and Double Double Bonus have more complicated strategies and you might make more mistakes . You would need to practice the stratgey until you have it memorized, but bring along a strategy card too, just in case you can't remember how to play a particular hand.
There are some games that have an expected return of more than 100%. However, they are heard to find. Usually, they can only be found at locals casinos in Nevada. In some states, such as Illinois and Mississippi the gaming regulations do not allow video poker games to return more than 100%. That is not the case in Nevada and many casinos advertise the games they have that return more than 100%.
As explained in the video, the game of video poker is very different than playing the lottery, which is simply a game of luck. Just as there are professional poker players, there are professional video poker players. The universe of professional VP players is much smaller, but they do exist. By only playing games with the best pay tables, using the proper strategies and taking advantage of good casino promotional programs there are players who can come out ahead in the long run.
I've listened to Steve's podcast for years. He always gives sound advice, based on the mathematical probability, not speculation or rumor. Great job on this video.
I bring a strategy chart with me all the time and I have never had a problem. It would be unwise to use a comptuer or other electronic device in the casino as that could be grounds for a felony charge in Nevada, as well as some other states, but a piece of paper should not be a probelm.
was delt a royal flush at the mgm grand in detroit won 4 grand my first time there on my first cards delt have won a grand many times at mystic lake in minnesota always sat in the 3rd seat from a end it works for me at video poker machines
The double-up feature? On some machines, after you have a wiining video poker hand., you are then given the option to do a double or nothing bet. Five cards appear on the screen with the first one face up and the other four face down. You have to choose from the four face down cards one card. If it's higher than the face-up card, your win is doulbed. If it's lower, your win is lost. If it's the same value, it's a tie. The casino has no mathematical advantage on this game.
I have gotten lots of royal flushes. About four months ago I was playing as a partner with my son and we got two royals within about 20 minutes at a local casino here in south Florida. A friend and I were playing as partners in Atlantic City when he got dealt a royal flush on a $1 machine. You should expect a royal, on average, about once every 40,000 hands.
They most likely use a RNG for online poker games, but I can't say so with 100% certainty. In video poker the cards are constantly being shuffled until you hit the deal button. Then, they are still being shuffled until you hit the draw button. I know this is how it is done at IGT, the world's largest maker of slot machines, because I interviewed their chief engineer and he told me so. Other manufacturers probably do it the same way, but I am not 100% sure.
I participated in a Vegas casino's football contest and didn't win anything during the season so I received my entry fees back in free slot play. I watched your video on slot machines and when I heard that video poker was better, I did a search and found this video on video poker. I went to the casino last night and looked at several machines--it was so interesting to see how the pay tables changed! I found one machine and decided to play Jacks or Better and the penny credits seemed to have the best pay out--I can't remember exactly what the payout was but I think it said 88/66. I'm sure about the 88 not so sure about the 66. Anyway, I'm not much of a gambler at all, so I just played until I had used up my free slot play credits. I played max credits, and I don't think I lost one time. I'm very pleased that I turned my free $50 into $58.65 when I cashed out, so I basically got to play the football game for free! Thanks for the information and I want to learn to play better so I might be brave enough to play the ones that cost a little more to play.
You are a smart gambler. Unfortunately, many players never take the time to learn which rules are best and the proper strategies for those games. Many think it is all luck. Some games are indeed all luck, but even in those games there are both good and bad bets. An example would be craps where a pass line bet has a casino advantage of around 1.4% while the any seven bet has a 16.7% advantage.
Williiam Hill shops are in England? The information in my video only applies to regulated jurisdicctions in the U.S. I do not know if the same information applies to video poker machines outside the U.S.
The casinos are not allowed to do that. In regulated gaming jurisdictions, the machines must use a 52-card deck (assuming no jokers). The only way they can lower the payback percentage is to pay you less when you get a particualr wining hand.
The pay table determines the return for the machine, biut it's based on playing perfectly. Most people don't play perfectly so the casino still makes money on a game that is set to pay more than 10% with perfect play. You can't use a calculator in the casino. You can practice at home and bring a paper strategy chart/card with you.
Actually, besides the 9/6 strategy chart, there is also an 8/5 strategy chart on our web site. Just go back and print it out. Of course, 8/5 is not a very good game to play since it only returns 97.3% rather than 99.5%. However, if you want to play it, at least you will have the correct strategy.
Steve, I’m really liking your talk about video poker and have a question. How does the machine pick the first five cards? Does the machine just grab one of the 2,598,960 initial five card combinations? You said that in slots the casino can program in more winning combinations. Does video poker work the same by adding more initial winning or losing five card combinations? Thanks.
Yes, it has to pick one of the combinations of cards. Video poker MUST be based on 1, 52 card deck, they cannot change the chances of any one card appearing. The only way a casino can change the payback on a video poker machine is by changing the amount the player is paid for each hand which is why different games have different paytables
Steve, you said that a regular slot machine cycles through a preprogrammed set of combinations and stops at the one when the player presses the play button. You do not know how many winning or losing combinations are programmed. It is just cycling through the combinations programmed. Some are programmed with more winning combinations, but you do not know. Come on five cherries! There could be 52 fruits and five are shown. But the casino could program in more or less combinations. You do not know. In video poker we make the assumption that there are 52 “cards” and that there are the 2,598,960 initial five card combinations. But if I’m the casino I want to win. There are 15,820,024,220 initial ten card combinations or decks. How do we know that the game is fair? How do we know that the machine is programmed to only have the decks limited to the 15 trillion, cycling through until the player presses the deal button? Is there a sign on the machine saying it is limited to the 15T combinations? IMHO the difference between a slot machine with fruits and video poker is that you make the assumption that the game is based on 52 cards.
Gaming regulations require that video poker games simulate the same odds as if you were playing the game as dealt from a randomly shuffled 52-card deck,. Since you mention fruit games, I assume you are from the UK? If so, gaming regulations there might be different, especially if you are playing in pubs.
Video poker games in Atlantic City work the exact same way as VP games in Las Vegas. One of the states that does have different VP games, however, is New York. At the casinos at pari-mutuels in NY the cards in the VP games are not dealt randomly. Instead, it is like you are playing a scratch-off lottery ticket with a pre-determined number of winners and losers. Therefore, the pay table you see shown in the front of the VP machine is meaningless because skill is not a factor when playing.
You're videos are terrific. You thoroughly address the questions that us viewers are wondering about AND you use great visual displays. at 2:44 you mention using the information to become a long-term winner at video poker. But how can someone be a long-term winner if the odds are 99.54% with perfect strategy? Or am I misunderstanding what you mean by a long-term winner?
Most casinos will give you benefits for your play. Sometimes that will be in the form of freeplay and that can bring you over the 100% payback amount. Also, you will earn comps: free food, free rooms, free shows, etc. Ideally, you are playing a break-even game with the casinos and taking advantage of the comps if you can find a good video poker game. That won't happen with slots because the casino advantage is too high.
Hi Mr. Bourie, Will there be more coupons for Atlantic City in American Casino Guide 2013 Edition than the current 2012 one? Have you approach Resorts, Borgata, and Taj? I am going to Vegas in December, should I wait for the 2013 edition? I am at 97% on JOB because I've yet to hit the Royal Flush. I look forward to play VP with 100% plus payout in Vegas. What game would you recommend? Which local Vegas casinos? Thanks!
The art of "controlled dice throwing" is a subject of controversy because many people believe it can't be done. I believe that is is possible, but it would be extremely difficult. Sort of like trying to be a major league baseball pitcher. How many people can do that? Only those who are gifted with extra special physical abilities and practice for many years.
I don't know of any problems with using a strategy card in a casino. Casinos usually allow people to use blackjack strategy cards right at the table as long as they don't slow down the progress of the game. I do know that it is illegal to bring a mechanical or electronic device into a casino to help you play, but I don't believe that there is a problem with using a piece of paper with information on it. If the casino did object then I am sure they would simply ask you to put it away.
Video poker is a much better game to play. I play it at a casino near my home. I basically try to play a break-even game and take advantage of the cashback and comps offered by the casino. The casino has a concert hall so I get to see a lot of good concerts for free. Therefore, even if I lose a small amount of money for the year I still feel that I am ahead becuase I got to see a lot of free concerts and I had some fun playing in the casino.
Ok, so i get the math/odds/payout table stuff but the thing I never trusted with VP is the initial deal may be random but what's preventing the computer from favouring the house with the 2nd cards? For the example you showed you had 4 hearts going for the flush on the 5th, that's where I think the computer could think "no way I'm dealing out a heart" can you explain?
@@TheJackpotGents thks for the quick reply. I'm in Toronto but im sure the Canadian regs are just as tight as U.S. (just a little suspicious i guess since i always feel the cards i dropped would have been better than what i kept with what was delt next!!) Either that or I'm just a crap player!!LOL 😂😂 But thanks for the advice on looking for the 9- 6 payout tables, wàs never aware there were differences. Cheers & good luck
I know many professional-level video poker players for many years and none of them has ever complained that they they thought the games were not randomly dealt.
A few years back there was a show called "Breaking Vegas". It featured true 'scams' that cleaned out casino money. One of them was a guy who had a dice throwing technique that really improved his odds. It won a ton! Like you, the casinos refused to believe anyone could control the throw. They let him play. It took a long time and a lot of loses to realize he could do it. He also taught others and together they made millions.
The games are not rigged in any manner. Gaming regulations require that the results be determined randomly as if the cards were dealt from a shuffled deck. I have no problem trusting a video poker machine when playing in a regulated gaming environment. I also know players who make a living playing off of those same video poker machines.
Hello Steve, I sometimes visit the casinos in Montana, many of the casinos in the bars have "King's or Better" or "Queen's or Better" video poker. It's played the same as "Jacks or Better" except you need to get at least a pair of Kings to win even money. Other than that the pay table is the same. My question is, If I am playing a 9/6 KOB machine, how much does this payback percentage change?
I am not familiar with that game. However, we used our video poker software program to use the same 9/6 Jacks or better pay table (99.54% payback) and we changed it to queens or better. The payback percentage on that machine is 95.21% We then changed it to kings or better and the payback is 90.73%. Very bad games!
Playing some kind of video poker in life is an eventuality . It is one thing to play it for the odds. It is quite another to play it in the casino for money .
@americancasinoguide I did not see your "how video poker machines work" video so I apologize if you answered this elsewhere, but can a manufacturer possibly enter in more card combinations, say 2.7 million, with the extra hands just being repeats of other losers? Or is this not allowed? If they did that on the 9 6 machines then wouldn't that push the expected return down near some lower pay out machines, like a 8 6, that only used the 2,598,960 unique hands?
With slot machines the best thing a player can do is stop playing them and switch to video poker. The returns are several percentage points higher, plus you can learn to read a VP paytable and know exactly what the machine is programmed to pay back. With casino games based purely on luck the best a player can hope to do is get lucky and win. I think players know the house will win in the long run but it's good if they can avoid bad bets to make their bankroll last longer and have more fun.
I have noticed the phenomenon of spoiler cards in many different places. On a 3-play, 5-play, or 10-play game, you deal three cards the same value. Then you hold those cards and draw. The same draw cards show on some or many lines. For instance, you deal 5-play and 3 aces are drawn; hold the aces. The draw cards might be, for instance, a 6-of-clubs and a 10-of-something on 2 lines or more, same suit; different reels; sometimes 6-10 or 10-6 next rows, 10-3 and 6-jack, jack-10, and occasional pair. The odds of that happening randomly per session are infinitesimal. Then a pair of 6s deal next hand and a pair of 10s deal next hand after that, nothing returns on draw. Or a specific draw card may appear over and over to prevent 4-of-a-kinds on the same reel, on different lines. For example, a 6 or a pair of 5s on the first or second reel on different lines. Or deal a pair on reel 4&5 with no draw card for a win on reel 1,2, or 3. or some set of reels for a session. The phenomenon of Aces and Eights; Kings and Jacks; six pairs of 5s out of 10 hands; frequency of natural 4-of-kind on deuces with no 4-of-a-kind on any other games. The odds of that happening randomly per session are infinitesimal.

Adam Thomson "Unfortunately as it is an electronic game, you have no more control over the outcome than a slot..." Okay, I am stopping you right there. For slots, yes, you have no control over the outcome. In video poker, the cards you choose to hold affect your odds of winning. Are you telling me that if I get dealt a royal flush, I have the same odds of winning if I keep all the cards as if I redraw them?
I went to the site he said, printed out their stategy guide and went to test it out at the local casino. Unfortunately found out the local casino only offers 8-5 machines not 9-6.. Still better odds then your regular slots but i was slightly bummed and didn't play to much. If they offered 5 dollar blackjack tables i would definately do that instead, but the table minnimum is 15, since they have no competition in the area they can pretty much do whatever they want.
I just played video poker for the first time this week. I really enjoyed it so my friend sent me your videos to watch. Thank you for all of your shared knowledge for a newcomer like me! Ignore the haters too 😎
Steve, how is it that casinos will allow you to play their video poker games with the EV strategy in hand, either with a hard copy printout or say an app on your smart phone? Won't they "back you off" the game if they catch you doing this. Much like they do when they catch someone counting cards at a 21 Table.
It depends on the casino. We have never run into an issue using a hard printed strategy card but have had some players tell us that the casino we were playing at don't like players having them out. It could be us being paranoid, but we don't recommend using a strategy chart from a phone because the law for cheating in nevada that it just says something along the lines of using a digital advice to give you an advantage so if a casino wanted to they could give you a hard time.
Also, on a vast majority of the video poker games you will find in the country, even with perfect strategy you are still playing at a disadvantage and the casinos know this which is why I think most don't mind you using a strategy chart
I know some folks like Bob Dancer and Jean Scott tell people to be discreet about this, but others like Henry Tamburin shake their head at the 99% of video poker players that don't have any references. Depending on how comfortable I am with the strategy I either have it out on the machine (slant/bartop) or leave it on my lap. Using a paper printout is also much faster than dialing up the exact hand on my phone, and I always feel that is more like cheating since it is an electronic device.
This has happened more times than I can remember: I am dealt a hand with a pair of Jacks ( or better) which is an automatic winning hand but this hand also has 4 cards of the same suit. So, do I throw away a winning hand to try for a flush, which pays much more than the Jacks? What is the basic strategy for this type of hand? Thanks.
My philosophy is....if the machine wants you to win, you'll win. I've thrown away a 2 pair on the deal and got a 4 of a kind. Completely random, no strategy is needed.
Well, the machine doesn't decide whether or not it wants you to win. It just randomly deals cards and pays out accordingly if you get a winning hand. There is always only one mathematically correct way to play any video poker hand and you should try to learn to play your hands properly. If you always make the best play you can achieve the best long-term results for that game. So, there is actually an element of skill involved in video poker. Casinos make most of their money on video poker games from players who don't know how to play properly.
Ehhh...in reality, a Jacks or Better is not technically a winning hand...just even money...the rhythm of your machine may very well dictate the best outcome...for example...if you’ve been playing a machine that has dealt flushes or better with a fair level of consistency, you might very well want to drop the Jack or better in favor of shooting for the flush...of course, there are no guarantees....indeed Video Poker is a game of BOTH luck AND skill
Video poker machines still operate in the same manner and all of the information in the video is still accurate. The only difference is that more new novelty games have been introduced. Just to name a few: Big Times Draw Poker, Black Jack Bonus Poker, Build a Wheel Poker, Color Match Royals Poker, Crazy Times Pay Poker, Double Pay Poker (SH), Double Super Times Pay Poker, Double Super Times Pay Poker (SH), Draw Poker with Dream Card, Draw Poker with Dream Card (SH), Dream Card Poker, Extra Action Poker, etc. They all require making an extra bet in order to be eligible for the bonuses that they will give you. In all cases the extra bet adds more volatility to the game. However, in some cases it also adds extra to the payback percentage, which is good. Extra Draw Frenzy Poker
It is and it isn't. It's like counting in BJ with perfect BS, eventually you'll get there (if no back offs) but it takes time and enough units to continue going when it gets rough.
very informative as I didn't realize that the 9-6 is what to look for. I'll be trying it out when I go to Vegas. I am going to try to learn some strategy. Isn't it the same as if you were playing regular draw poker with cards and other players?
Playing video poker is nothing at all like playing regular poker against other players, except perhaps for the names of the hands. Many poker players will bluff, but there is no bluffing involved in video poker.
It took me a day and I programmed playable video poker and then went online to look at there is on it. Calculating best cards to hold etc., even with a bot going for optimal strategy. I played GTA San Andreas and there I found out about video poker and thought that would be fun to program. 50$ no way you get it from me ;).
Most people who go to casinos play slot machines because they don't know that video poker is a much better game to play. They think that all machines are the same and they don't realize that they could do much, much better by playing video poker instead of slot machines.
Great videos, thank you. Would you say there is a ballpark figure on how long/how many hands it takes to reach a full cycle and expect the % payout to play out? Thank you.

Wow! 2.5 million hands to come full circle? Is this while playing the correct strategy? With this in mind and a 99% return (or even 100%+ return), how is it that some people make a living doing this?
Yes, I understand. But you mentioned somewhere you know people who make a living playing this game. Did you really mean they earn an income to live on? Thank you again for all your fantastic, non-hyped, sensible videos!
We just released a video titled - How to Become a Professional Video Poker Player with Video Poker Expert Bob Dancer. Bob earned more than one million dollars playing video poker and I interviewed him about how someone can become a professional player. You can see it here - ruclips.net/video/oV-DBdT14aw/видео.html
@americancasinoguide Ah thanks, i wasn't sure how much it brought the odds down 97.3 is higher then i thought, and still makes it far better then the regular slots. I'll get the guide for 8/5 next time i go.
Thanks again for your professional teaching vids . I am playing 8/5 jacks or better now perfectly. last couple times I went to the local casino, I have been able to play for hours and stay at least 40 to 50 dollars ahead on the quarter machines, But so far haven't hit the big one the royal Flush LOL. I was doing so well tonight I decided to go into the High rollers room and play 8/5 jacks or better poker on a dollar machine . I did well but still no royal. But I will keep trying for it LOL. even on the dollar video poker machine I still kept over $40.00 ahead of what I started with and I played that machine for 30 minutes so I was either real lucky or was playing pretty good or both. Thanks for the info JKW
hman630 The theoretical return on an 8/5 Jacks or Better machines is 97.28% when played perfectly with a maximum coins bet. That means that even if you never make a mistake, the game is expected to return only $97.28 for every $100 you put into the machine. So, you have been lucky and that's why you are ahead. In the long run, you are expected to $2.72, for each $100 played. Unless the cashback, or other benefits from the casino, is 2.72% or higher, you will be a loser on that machine. If you play 600 hands an hour on a quarter machine your expected loss per hour is $20.40 ($1.25 x 600 x 2.72). If you move up to $1 machines, your expected hourly loss is $81.60. Please keep this in mind when you play.
Yes I know that. But keep in mind also that the longer I can play the better chance I have to get a royal dealt. and that's one of the reasons I play also its fun and I can play this machine a lot longer than I could play a regular slot machine with the same amount of money. Thanks again. JKW
anyway the main reason I play is because its fun I don't expect to win. But if I get lucky while having Fun all the better. Better this than a regular slot machine where id probably not be able to play near as long with the same amount of money. JKW
If they are doubling your initial deposit and the game has a 99.54% payback, then you should easily be able to make money. However, that deal seems way too good to be true. Casinos are not stupid and they would know that deal is way too profitable for a player. Therefore, I am quite sure that there must be some restrictions on that offer that would not allow you to simply cash out after betting the bankroll through just one time.
Everything in this video is factually correct. 1-if you bring a computer into a casino to aid you in beating a game you are committing a felony. 2-The VP games with paybacks of 100%+ are very hard to find. Usually only in locals casinos in Las Vegas. 3-Most people are lazy and will never make the effort to learn how to play properly. 4-The 100%+ payback is a long term number and does not mean you are guaranteed to win. 5-I don't live in Las Vegas. Casinos near me have no 100%+ machines.
Video poker is a different game from table poker where you are playing against other players. The Video Poker Edge by Linda Boyd is a good book for learning about video poker. You can search for it on Amazon.com
So, in other words, even with the %99+ payout (assuming you can't find a positive EV machine) you could net a profit due to comps. I think. Combining playing the 99% machines and the positive machines (when available) should be about break even, but the comps have a dollar value. Therefore, if the comps add up to more dollars than the gas costs you, you can have fun at a casino without losing money! Sweet.
Thank you so much. Your video was very interesting. Going to Vegas on May 28 for seven days. Have a question. What is the differences between a video poker at Casino bar and the other stand alone kind?
Jack Adams Video poker machines all work in the same manner in Las Vegas. You would just want to make sure that you are playing the machines with the best pay tables in order to get the best best payback percentages.
He’s a Saint! I was a former slot player. I still play slots but only with Free Play offers. I take those possible winnings and apply it to Video Poker!
Hello my mentor. I have been converted from slots to VP will be in LV March 26 to 29th depart friday am. Where will you be hanging that weekend? South point? hope to meet you in person. I have the 208 ACG as well
I've always assumed video poker machines could change the "to be dealt" cards according to what was held by the player. Is this not the case? Are the "to be dealt" cards predetermined before you discard (much like with a real deck)?
😂 all you people calling bullshit. Everything he is saying is based on math. Also he isn’t selling anything. Now anyone that says they can beat the system and try’s to sell you something is absolutely full of shit. He’s not selling anything here. I fail to see any motivation for this guy to be lying. He is simply offering some tips to help you use the mathematical system of the machine to improve your odds a little. He isn’t guaranteeing you hit a jackpot or anything.
None of that nonsense is true. Every machine is the same, well within that theme or game type on a bank. There is no weekend changing of percentages, pumping oxygen or machines on the end paying better. What is true is the colors and layout will rarely give you a direct exit and the machines do give off a certain tonal frequency that is supposed to stimulate your pleasure (that is something I will not confirm but I can believe that). There rarely if ever a clock to be seen to remind the patrons what time it is to keep people playing and also adding TITO (Ticket in ticket out) actually did increase the money casinos were raking in. The patrons are simply spending money much faster than ever before.
and how do you do when the mashine accept bets?, i mean, there are some video poker mashines that after you make whatever winning combinations then you could raise the bet until you get a lower card than the betting card. in this case, is it a pattern that i must have to follow or something in order to have much probability to get the higher card and win more money?
Actually the very last thing he talks about, payback % over 100%, what he says is NOT True in the State of Nevada. The NV Gaming Commission is very strict and constantly audits games. If the game is certified for 100.5% then it had better be over the average day paying out that extra .5% ! Games that pay out over 100% are called loss leaders and are usually being played during the busy hours by casino employees and are located near entrances. The idea is that the sound of winning will draw people into the casino to play games that are less than 100% payback.
I doubt you're going to find a video poker machine that has a higher return than 99% these days. Back in the 80/90's the average player wouldn't know the correct strategy and combined with making errors through fatigue and general carelessness would likely be playing a game that was 3-4% below perfect strategy. Nowadays it's all too easy for a player to take charts with them on even consult their phone to find out the ideal play.
I'm confused because in the last video I watched about the slot machines, you said that they had a fixed % range (from the 80's to 90's) based on how much $ each slot machine requires and that the only ones that were often changed were server-based ones that can change via computer. Now you're saying there's no way to tell what payouts each slot machine you sit at has and that they could all be different? Did all slot machines change to this server-based thing you mentioned within a year of that last video? I'd guess modern-day they probably all use that as it would give them the most flexibility and earning potential. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding this all together and if so I apologize not really a gambler, but interested in the subject.
The RNG chips inside slot machines that control the payback percentages are not frequently changed, even on server-based machines the casinos pretty much set them and forget them. All of the machines within each denomination are set to about the same payback percentage. And, the higher the denomination, the higher the payback percentage. See examples, here - www.americancasinoguidebook.com/slot-machine-payback-statistics.html#Nevada
in australia video poker machines only start paying on three of a kind. so no jacks or better or two pair of any kind. three of a kind usually pays 3 to 1.... should i be playing this machine
I don't know how people feel about playing video poker online but the one that I've been playing makes you an offer after you win a hand. It asks you if you want to double your bet with a game of high card. Was wondering if that is considered a sucker bet like insurance in blackjack?
In a regulated gaming environment in the U.S. the Double Up feature on a video poker machine has no mathematical advantage for the casino. If you play that game online I don't think you will ever know if it is played in the same manner.
Okay, this is something that I don't get. A straight flush seems really hard to get (at least in my experience), yet it pays crap relative to other hands that seem easy to get. Also, when I play the video poker machines here, I do see a pattern. Like some nights it always likes to give out 2 pairs. You can ditch one part of the set and low and behold it deals you another. Other times, it may give you straights. Again you ditch part of it hoping to do better but nope it deals you a straight. Granted this is in Canada. However, when I do go to Vegas I like to play the same machines they whole time I am there and have detected patterns too. Not as overt but they are there.
@@TheJackpotGents
I only allot myself $20 to play and always stop if I'm ahead, even if just $10.
Just play the atm machine. I win money everytime I put my card in.
I've actually had that not give me money a time or two LOL
You win the internet.
You technically losing your money lol
Y r yu watching this video then? Just say yu lost
@@PabloDiaz-hy8mj exactly 😂💯
Your videos are so engaging and entertaining too. I really appreciate you for sharing your knowledge and tips.
The Video Poker Edge by Linda Boyd is a good book, but I don't know if you can download it. See it on Amazon.com
It depends on the cards. If JQK, you hold all three. If AKQ you hold KQ because it's easier to get a straight.
That won't happen with slots because the casino advantage is too high.
going to salmanca new york. i'm a black jack player, but, i would like to revisit slots for a little. very helpful information. thank you.
Be careful if you play video poker at a casino at a NY racetrack. Those machines work differently and no skill is involved.
If the casino did object then I am sure they would simply ask you to put it away.
thanks for a tips
i'm playing video poker on gta san andreas
Same , I spent 5 hours on it and won like $99 million
Same lmao
I have a video poker tournament coming up at Mohegan Sun, CT on January 5th - can't wait to apply your tips - thank you. - Slot Raven
Gaming regulations require that all cards be dealt randomly. As long as you are playing in a regulated gaming jurisdiction, you should be fine.
@@TheJackpotGents thks for the quick reply. I'm in Toronto but im sure the Canadian regs are just as tight as U.S. (just a little suspicious i guess since i always feel the cards i dropped would have been better than what i kept with what was delt next!!) Either that or I'm just a crap player!!LOL 😂😂
But thanks for the advice on looking for the 9- 6 payout tables, wàs never aware there were differences.
Cheers & good luck
I know many professional-level video poker players for many years and none of them has ever complained that they they thought the games were not randomly dealt.
you still kicking it bro how you doing ?
Ive made millions several times in GTA Sanandreas
Same bruh😂
A few years back there was a show called "Breaking Vegas". It featured true 'scams' that cleaned out casino money. One of them was a guy who had a dice throwing technique that really improved his odds. It won a ton! Like you, the casinos refused to believe anyone could control the throw. They let him play. It took a long time and a lot of loses to realize he could do it. He also taught others and together they made millions.
That’s what we call a tat con
The games are not rigged in any manner. Gaming regulations require that the results be determined randomly as if the cards were dealt from a shuffled deck. I have no problem trusting a video poker machine when playing in a regulated gaming environment. I also know players who make a living playing off of those same video poker machines.
Good job relaying the ins and outs of video ker
I'm only 12 and I know video poker, I played it in gta san andreas Video Poker and win Four of A Kind :O
Playing some kind of video poker in life is an eventuality .
It is one thing to play it for the odds.
It is quite another to play it in the casino for money .
Dont bet your piggy bank kid
Don't play with your parents hard earned money kiddo and tread carefully when there is gambling.
Love the GTA SA video poker. However now it won’t let me play randomly on any file for whatever reason, but it’s a great game
Is it legal to take those strategy guide pages with you to the casinos?
Sorry, but I don't know if the machines in Australia work the same way as they do in then U.S.
Which casino has 9/7 poker machines

Everyone is so cynical in the comments! Video Poker skills are real!
Ignore the haters too 😎
Thanks for the advice, I am going to try a bit of it when I am in Vegas. Not a lot of slot machines, no Big 6, some craps, no roulette.
Poker's the only way you can be a statistical favorite through normal means. (not machine poker though)
Great Video, buy this mans book.
Thanks.
Keep the wining hand, unless it's four to a straight flush.
But still always play with calculated money, the amount of money you can afford to lose.
Any update from nine years ago? Anything to watch out for that may favor the Casino now versus a decade ago?
Too good to be true ~ If we all had an underarm instructions manual on how to beat the video poker slot machines, we were all rich by now
It is and it isn't.
Many poker players will bluff, but there is no bluffing involved in video poker.
did you say you can bring this chart to the casino? is that not frowned upon?
Thank you.
Here are the expected returns on 9/6 JACKS OR BETTER after playing 2,598,960 hands

Total Return 99.5439%
Wow! 2.5 million hands to come full circle? Is this while playing the correct strategy?
With this in mind and a 99% return (or even 100%+ return), how is it that some people make a living doing this?
You would need to include the benefits from the players club in order to get the return over 100%.
JKW
hman630 You are expected to get a royal flush, on average, about once every 40,000 hands.
I am taking a trip to Las Vegas soon. What casino there is the best for me to play video poker?
lol, wtf man???
The one with the slots
Everything in this video is factually correct. 1-if you bring a computer into a casino to aid you in beating a game you are committing a felony. 2-The VP games with paybacks of 100%+ are very hard to find. Usually only in locals casinos in Las Vegas. 3-Most people are lazy and will never make the effort to learn how to play properly. 4-The 100%+ payback is a long term number and does not mean you are guaranteed to win. 5-I don't live in Las Vegas. Casinos near me have no 100%+ machines.
Great videos. How rare are machines that have a return above 100%? And isn't using a machine to calculate odds considered cheating?
so if i win with a pair of queens only (jacks or better), I just break even?
can you use the strategy chart at the casino without any backoff.
i believe so, its basic strategy so they cant say anything, i use a basic strategy card at blackjack tables bcuz i forget to do in tuff hands
I d like to know how to play poker but I dont know anything about it. Is there any trainning or book teaching how to play poker?
Video poker is a different game from table poker where you are playing against other players. The Video Poker Edge by Linda Boyd is a good book for learning about video poker. You can search for it on Amazon.com
The figure of 2,598,960 is only for 5 card hands and not figuring the draws
So, in other words, even with the %99+ payout (assuming you can't find a positive EV machine) you could net a profit due to comps. I think. Combining playing the 99% machines and the positive machines (when available) should be about break even, but the comps have a dollar value. Therefore, if the comps add up to more dollars than the gas costs you, you can have fun at a casino without losing money!
Sweet.
The problem with your secret is that you won't always be ahead. Sometimes, you will start off losing and never get ahead. Then what do you do?
Thank you so much. Your video was very interesting. Going to Vegas on May 28 for seven days.
Have a question. What is the differences between a video poker at Casino bar and the other stand alone kind?
Jack Adams Video poker machines all work in the same manner in Las Vegas. You would just want to make sure that you are playing the machines with the best pay tables in order to get the best best payback percentages.
Thank You so much for getting back to me. Have to say again how much I have enjoyed your videos.
Hey, Steve. I just will say, I love your videos and I don't care what some negative nanny's say. Thank you!
I have the 208 ACG as well
Sorry, but I will not be in Vegas at that time. Good luck and be sure to hit some royals on your trip!
I've always assumed video poker machines could change the "to be dealt" cards according to what was held by the player. Is this not the case? Are the "to be dealt" cards predetermined before you discard (much like with a real deck)?
After the initial deal the remaining cards are continuously being randomly shuffled until you hit the deal button.
All these people who are raging are people who lose all their money 😂😂 I go with 40 bucks play slots and always come home with some cash
he is selling his book . this is a commercial. you sir are a dolt
Nope. I would believe that you are actually the dolt. The video is factually correct and it is not a commercial.
Most of the comments sound like 13 year olds who hate their life anyway.
is there any truth the best machines in casinos are the ones near entrance?so people who look in can see people winning?
We did another video where we discussed this topic. You can watch it here - ruclips.net/video/Rb3-60Y3P4A/видео.html
I mean this is a 13 year old video things can change lol thanks for the information tho
what is bet the best videopoker game? jack or better?
I doubt you're going to find a video poker machine that has a higher return than 99% these days. Back in the 80/90's the average player wouldn't know the correct strategy and combined with making errors through fatigue and general carelessness would likely be playing a game that was 3-4% below perfect strategy. Nowadays it's all too easy for a player to take charts with them on even consult their phone to find out the ideal play.
Great video but if I wanted to play either video poker or play some blackjack at a real table which would afford me the best odds?
See examples, here - www.americancasinoguidebook.com/slot-machine-payback-statistics.html#Nevada
thank you for taking the time to make a clearly explained instructional video
Glad it was helpful!
in australia video poker machines only start paying on three of a kind. so no jacks or better or two pair of any kind. three of a kind usually pays 3 to 1.... should i be playing this machine
Any idea of the payouts at Charles Town Casino in WV?
You can see that information, here - www.americancasinoguide.com/slot-machine-payback-statistics.html#West-Virginia
I’m still waiting for the part how video poker machines work.
How does the payout table look for video poker machines that have a 100% or higher payout rate?
I got that 4000 yesterday
