This is bullshit. I was at a casino and there were three machines that were running super slow whereas when the wild were coming around the wheel, the players could stop the machine so that it stopped exactly where the line was when they stopped it. There are machines where you can stop individual rows. These machines were this type so I watched this gambler next to me stop the reels on a nearly full screen of wilds every time they were in vision. Also, the casino can change the machines to be heavily weighted toward losing spins during the r & g spins as well. Certainly there are machines that will stop on the predetermined character. You can actually see the reels jump by the pictures on the screen at the time you stop it and goes to the predetermined finish. So not all machines run the same. You can't tell me the casino doesn't have control over how much money they make. Otherwise, every one of them would go broke. If the randomizer is truelove random, it would be possible for the casino to lose. It may be random but the machines are set to randomly Pic the bigger reels less or more times depending on how they set the machine.

I been playing for years and you will never just straight lose forever. One day you will win. But if you really want to guarantee a win just buy your own slot machine. They go for 500 to 5000.
I used to live in Vegas in the late 80's. I found that there is no winning in the long rum. I would be up, and leave a casino. On the way to my house, I'd walk into another casino and lose everything I was up from the other casino. You just can't get away from it !
I started almost 3 years ago, yes, I lost more than winning 😢 I just do less trips now and if I winn I keep it, then wait 2 weeks or . more to go again with a little money
This video about telling you to go watching You Tube of live players playing the slots should tell you everything you need to know about how much cash they take and hopefully you are the one who hits that great bonus payout which generally ends in disappointment. But I absolutely get the thrill though and why these extreme volatility are so popular, they are literally addictive as fk. When I first quit, I would fire up a live stream of slot plays and would smile to myself when I see $1000 deposited and lost inside 20 minutes and those were micro stakes. The longer I stayed off slots the easiest it got just by watching others lose and if they did win big, it was often less and they had put in anyway. If you really really want to quit, I suggest you watch live slot players on streams and see how much they actually lose, even better if you can watch all their sessions just to grasp who really is the winner. I am now just so annoyed it took 41 years, missing out on my two kids growing up because slots came before anything and decades later they became my antidepressant, my go to when I was having bad days, weeks months and even years. The one bit of advice I can give is, KEEP YOUR KIDS AWAY FROM SEEING YOU GAMBLE. They will follow you when they get older I promise you that.

Really like how you present your info… thank you for simplifying complex processes. Can you please have a video on tribal casinos “slots” which are really class2 machines? In particular, how server-based machines work.
Slot machines are a great way to turn a $5,000 investment bankroll into an absolutely INCREDIBLE hand pay of $1,500, which you then have to pay 24% in federal taxes.
This is the most informative slot video I've seen to date. Thank you for taking the time to produce this video. I'm one who is authorized to record my slot play and I make it a point to only post the full rounds for exactly the reason you stated. If you only see the bonus videos, some will think they can take a paycheck into a casino and immediately make some big bucks. We know that's not the way it works. Again, thank you.
Thank God he explained it well.... people keep saying it's just all RNG and it's just all random... yes but it's random with different odds and different volatility.... so it's not completely random and as simple as people think.
I hit the max jackpot on a slot for $50,000 and the guy there told me that the max jackpot had not gone off in over 3 years !!!!! It’s all random luck !! Have fun and gamble smart !!
Thank you. I have been thinking a high jackpot on a machine that others have been saying it has never been this high. Now I realized it can really can be a long time before it randomly shows up!😊

Easily the best slot machine explainer vid I’ve seen to date. Appreciate you getting into some of the weeds of programming. As a tech and computer geek (and avid gambler), I’d love to see more of these breakdowns-good stuff!
Thanks Marc! Super informative! I watch all different channels and really actually prefer the long play to see exactly what you said! But I think the best tip was what you said at the end… to make your trip last, play the LOW volatility machines first… try to build up your bank roll then you can move on to a little more risk if you want without losing it all in a short time potentially! Thanks again!
Here's one for you... does the amount of time between pressing the spin button, change the random number? Ie. If you wait 10 seconds or slap it repeatedly, would the outcome be the same?
That's basically it. But one time after having delicious buffet at new york new york, there was a penny slot machine and decided to try it. Took $10 and basically 5 minutes later, hit a payout for $90 which covered the buffet and I just left. So that was fun.
It's for entertainment purposes. You only spend a planned amount of money to have fun and if you walk away a winner it makes it that much better. I grew up in Nevada and that's the concept as I know it otherwise it becomes addiction
@christinesitar9962 you definitely have to know when to quit, and I agree to having a little amusement, but I would rather do it playing bingo with my grandmother if I were still young and she was still here. Thanks for this video. This was by far, the best video on how slots work. Appreciate the insights and tips. Amazing job! Very helpful, I need to make my wife watch this one!
My question is, is there a way for casinos to loosen or tighten their machines? Like thru a network? I have seen casinos "advertise" that they have the loosest slots in Vegas. How can that be? Also, I have heard that casinos in Vegas must pay out at a certain rate, yet Indian casinos arent keep to that same legal requirement. How can the Indian casinos have tighter slots than the ones in Vegas unless the machines can be controlled?
I would say 80% of my bigger jackpot handpays have been either in the first 5 spins. I have implemented what I call the “5 spin method” when I play high limit slots and have had great success most of the time. 🎰
Yes indeed. I always question a jackpot winner to see how long they were playing the machine. Until last week, in 15 years every single one said it was within the first few spins. "I put a $20 bill in and three or four spins later hit the jackpot." These were mostly wins on a $4 or $8 max bet.
Oh, and about volatility, do you believe the manufacturer if they list the volatility of a machine on their website? For example: Everi lists games like triple jackpot gems and double cherry as 1 out of 5 in volatility, but they are usually 9 line 3 reel games. Would you consider those games in the ‘ low volatility’ category?
Very helpful video thank you. Still have 1 question-on must hit by progressive, is it weighted towards high number or equal chance if machine picking 9001 versus 9999 for example on a must hit by 10k?
On Lucky 88 the MAX bet is $3, too many times I had to spend between $400 up to $700+ before I finally hit the next bonus. Random? Maybe 25-30 minutes between hitting a bonus, seems fishy to me. @@GambleSmart
Okay I have a question I want to the Indian casino the Seneca Niagara for an Invitational slot tournament , the machine was paying triple sevens over and over basically paying big amounts on every spin, we didn't get to keep the winnings the tournament was based on who had the highest score of money the machine paid. So if the casino cannot control that how were all 10 of those slot machines ridiculously hot?
It’s a tournament mode. It disables the bill validator and ticket printer. It’s available on a few game themes. As you said, they pay way more frequently because it’s based on points and not money in and money out.
very interesting indeed but I have a question , If the payback is 94% over the lifetime of the machine and it is supposed to balance , how does the machine know how long it will be is service ??? I have seen some old machines around Las Vegas
As far as I am aware, manufacturers run simulations over millions or billions of spins using the math model designed for the machine. They then arrive at an RTP figure. That has to be within a very small margin of the claimed RTP for the slot itself. It’s possible, especially in Vegas, that the slot will never get that many plays over its lifetime but on average the RTP will be correct. It’s not helpful in the US, unlike the UK there is no requirement to advertise the RTP for any slot. Many “penny” slots on the strip pay less than 90% which frankly is shocking.
They really don't need to "rig" anything. They've placed themselves in the winning position in a business that favours the house. They're the house. No need for shenanigans when regular play keeps them in the winning position.
Marc, I am so appreciative to you and Dave and have learned so much from you. Thanks for all your great information. Question. If the programming is all in place, I’m assuming changing denominations on a machine will have no effect on the outcome. Is that correct?
This is excellent Marc. I generally had this in my head for a few years and you confirmed much of what I’ve thought and learned. However, what blew me away was the probability chart on DD…. It’s considered low volatility yet has an 85% probability of a losing spin. Yikes… that really hit home. Made my wallet pucker a bit! Thank you guys, the vids are top notch…
Absolute TOP TIER video!! A lot of people need to see this. All those people who believe players cards, stopping the reels, cashing out and putting their tickets back in, tapping the screen, etc, actually changes their luck- need to see this!! As a regular slot player for the past 12 years, I actually knew all of this, except for one thing that you finally cleared up for me. Which was, if the outcome of free games is predetermined. It’s so interesting to finally know it’s not. I never knew if pushing the button during count ups and coin shows during free games (to speed it up) had any effect on the outcome of the free games or if the outcome would be the same either way. Now I know, if I push the button during free games, it will change the timing of the RNG. Thank you so much! I feel like you’ve cleared up a long mystery of mine, and it feels so freeing 😂
I can tell you that my boyfriend and I hit the exact same free game bonus at the same time on Cleopatra, and each spin was identical. So that's how I found out the truth. Preprogrammed.
This video should be played in schools (high schools) and/or college. People need to understand gambling and BE SAFE. There is so much miss-information out there and with TikTok videos of max payouts and other such material, people need to understand fully how these machines works. Great video.
Problem I’ve seen are the type of people that gamble excessively would still have try and experience it themselves no matter how many people tell them not to.
Thank you for this video. The RNG used in a slot machine reminds me a lot of how the numbers are chosen for state lotteries. Just because a number frequently pops up on a state lottery doesn't mean its a good number to select. On the flip side, just because a number hasn't come up in the last 99 draws doesn't mean it's due to pop up soon. I used to work with a guy that used a spread sheet and the Winning numbers from the last 100 lotto draws to help him figure out which lotto numbers to select for the next draw. Bless his heart, he never won. I kind of miss the old slot machines with a single pay line that used cherries, bells, plums, oranges, and a jackpot. Those machines seemed more mechanical than electronic, but they were what I cut my teeth on as a young gambler. You may not win much, but they were a lot of fun. I get too confused with multiple pay lines and funky symbols. But my wife seems to enjoy those
Awesome video! I am 100% on-board with everything you say and teach. AND I have told others next to me in casinos (when I hear them grumbling) to check out your channel. BUT, I still wonder.... The other night playing Dancing Drums. Got the bonus and chose the lowest volatility 10 spins. Hand on Bible that thing retriggered FIVE times during my bonus. Seemed pretty damn "hot" to me 😃
Machines are UNDOUBTEDLY hot and cold... I don't care what anyone says. It may be a random number generator, but if that's the case then they're not as random as the programmers hoped they would be .. it's true that we cannot actually replicate randomness.
@@Stellarffxigood point! However I have noticed whether win or lose, the machines seem to show patterns. When you start to see many bonus symbols it almost always seems a bonus Is on the way. At least my experience. I feel like the randomness is actually showing you sometimes what is coming next kinda. If that makes sense
Went to the casino to watch the fights last weekend and decided to drop 10 bucks in on the way out the door. Saw a lady leaving a machine, plopped down and max bet, hit 20 free rolls, 5 minutes later $150. Cashed out and gtfo.
A few years back I went to the casino and decided to watch a friend play slots. Nothing made sense to me he got up and I sat down. Turned $2.00 into like $175 or $275. I kept playing and lost it all.
Played in a privately owned casino where they had advertised on a billboard " Visit us, sign up to be a club member, and well double your first $20 with your players club in. So I took up their offer. I played my $20 credit on a double diamond quarter machine and after all my original $20 was spent I ended up cashing out for $57. The cashier said congrats and I said thanks. I immediately returned to the same machine and could not win one credit. So much for random payouts
Great job of explanations. I think even the floor walkers of the casino should know this information to head off some potential misinformation and rumors.
Can you please do a video on the slot machines that count every bonus as separate so it does not trigger hand pay? Some machines seem to alway lump the bonus.
I like your video. However, as a lifelong gambler I have to disagree with something. These slots may be random when the generator picks it's number. BUT, I have gambled FAR too much over the course of 30 years (every day) to agree with the fact that machines do not have hot and cold cycles. They do. So that RNG has to be going thru a much much larger bank of numbers that are going to PAY or a much much larger bank that WONT PAY when it's hot and cold. I've sat on games for HOURS and hit nothing after nothing, and the next day the same game is hitting every 5 spin bonuses for an hour. That is not random. This has happened far too often for it to be coincidence. I think you should also clarify that these happenings are only based on CLASS III gaming machines and not the bingo machines or the state lottery machines.
There are certainly hot and cold cycles, not disputing that. But they are not programmed to be hot and cold. This is just the result of randomness with a large set of probabilites.
@@GambleSmart Can you elaborate on that. Maybe do a video on it. I've noticed this happening on Dragon Link machines. I play every day and also observe people playing. One machine or two machines out of 8 will be hitting over and over. And the others won't nearly as much. One time I asked a worker about it. He said it wasn't just a random generator at work, but the machine can only give out so much money during a certain time.
I’ve been making/designing these games for many years. Those ‘streaks’ are result of randomness and the human brain that are hardwired to want to see patterns. We once had a customer survey where we could sit and watch how they answered to certain questions, and the ‘theories’ people were CONVINCED was happening, was just ridiculous. Not blaiming anyone. I used to think I had a VERY good idea of how things were ‘calculated’ to work until I started to make them myself. Your observations are again: merely a result of you wanting to see a pattern in what is really a result of randomness and volatility 😊
Thank you for such a comprehensive explanation of how slots work. I appreciate the time you put into these videos. I think they should be required viewing by slot players. Knowledge makes smarter gamblers!
Great video! How does variable RTP work under the data you explained in this video (or am I confused about the casino’s ability to change RTP on the fly)?
Think my head exploded! Volatility is the name of the name for me. Lots of my friends had no idea about volatility of slots, been trying to educate bunch old ladies OMG, some listen!
heeey. can you tell me about this? I've been noticing the votality something on every slot and If I understand this correctly, the higher the votality the more the chance of winning bigger or even the jackpot.
Very good and informative video Marc. I am an amateur slots player( don’t get to play too often) but now having listened to this video I have a better understanding of slots in general. My question is,,can the casino change the winnings odds,,my local casino seems to be super hard to get good pays compared to Sahara casino in Las Vegas,,(that’s the casino that have same slot like my local casino)or the slots come to the casinos straight like that from the manufacturer?thanks
I played an online slot machine the equivalent of $60 per spin. I got a bonus game and the possible wins were a large multiplier of the stake starting from x10 stake or one of the progressive jackpots - $100, $1000, $10,000. However someone had recently won one the smaller progressive jackpot and it had reset to the lower figure. Even though the machine is supposed to be random I knew that I would win the lowest progressive jackpot as any other bonus win would be much higher due to the higher stake. I started the bonus and the lowest progressive jackpot win came in.
As a Brit who doesn't gamble but enjoys watching Vegas gambling videos, that was really interesting. The way people talk about the machines like its a real battle is exciting. Understanding how it works is fascinating.

There is one video that shows a woman winning over a million dollars on the slot and the casino refused to pay put, claiming the machine was faulty, they only offered her a free steak dinner in compensation. I know she took legal advice but I never followed up on how that turned out. But to offer her a free steak meal in an absolute insult. It just shows you the greed in that casino business. So I'd love to hear this experts view on that case. I'd like to ask him, can a slot machine be faulty and mistakenly pay out a large sum ? I think not myself, not by what he explains in this video. It's all about numbers and luck. I hope that woman took that casino to court...
In the the Bookman case, the display was wrong. The max payout for that slot machine is $6,500. Legal winnings is what prints on the ticket, not the display
@@ShellyParchman But the machine didn't display that rule as far as I understand, and how can a slot machine display the possibility of winning up to a million when it doesn't pay that amount ? Isn't that a reason for someone to play the machine in the first place ? So regardless of the house rules, they exercised deceit by not making it clear what the maximum payout was. She at least should have received over 6.5 grand and not the offer of a free steak dinner.
Casino tech here, all machines have a disclaimer clearly printed on it or even displayed in the game that states “ malfunction voids all pays and plays”. They can malfunction, and when they do it always leads to outrageous numbers. We had a game retrigger over 212 times. When something like that happens, we had to verify with the vendor whether that was within parameters and that the final outcome was valid. In this case it was and we payed out the hand pay but if they had found fault in the outcome, that malfunction would have voided the play and the pay. Machines will fault. That’s why we upkeep them and why we have servers so we can validate wins
The casino was resort resort world in the Hudson valley and the woman definitely sued and the casino finally settled for an undisclosed amount out of court. But all of the above information is correct. The machines Max payout was only $6,500. I go to this casino all the time. They are not shady but just like any other casino. They're all about their own money. I usually go with $40 cash and don't bring any credit cards or debit with me, once I get over 100 I run

I started almost 3 years ago, yes, I lost more than winning 😢
I just do less trips now and if I winn I keep it, then wait 2 weeks or . more to go again with a little money
IMHO slots are programmed to favor the house.

Unless you are lucky enough to hit the millions and then quit playing lol. But in life yes, we all lose our money in the end of life.

Awesome, thank you!
Here's one for you... does the amount of time between pressing the spin button, change the random number? Ie. If you wait 10 seconds or slap it repeatedly, would the outcome be the same?
All it does is accelerate your play.
My philosophy is to stay the hell out of casinos because your odds are always against you no matter what
That's basically it.

Mine is twenty spins or less if no payouts or combinations come up.
Yes indeed. I always question a jackpot winner to see how long they were playing the machine. Until last week, in 15 years every single one said it was within the first few spins. "I put a $20 bill in and three or four spins later hit the jackpot." These were mostly wins on a $4 or $8 max bet.
Marc/Dave
This is the greatest video you all have made so far. Please keep these kinds of videos coming. Love the content
Yes, I would believe that and yes, I consider that fairly low in volatility.
More and more lately, when playing a high volatility machine when you finally do land the bonus, the bonus is horrible.

Such a great video. Thank you for taking the time to break up each section to teach and inform us!
very interesting indeed but I have a question , If the payback is 94% over the lifetime of the machine and it is supposed to balance , how does the machine know how long it will be is service ??? I have seen some old machines around Las Vegas
As far as I am aware, manufacturers run simulations over millions or billions of spins using the math model designed for the machine. They then arrive at an RTP figure. That has to be within a very small margin of the claimed RTP for the slot itself.
It’s possible, especially in Vegas, that the slot will never get that many plays over its lifetime but on average the RTP will be correct. It’s not helpful in the US, unlike the UK there is no requirement to advertise the RTP for any slot. Many “penny” slots on the strip pay less than 90% which frankly is shocking.

Marc, I am so appreciative to you and Dave and have learned so much from you. Thanks for all your great information. Question. If the programming is all in place, I’m assuming changing
denominations on a machine will have no effect on the outcome.
Convincing myself 6 black labels and coke in, that there’s a guy watching a camera in the machine is where the fun playing slots come from
A list of the lower volatility to higher volatility slots would be good.
Facts. The % of winning do change depending on the machine.
This video should be played in schools (high schools) and/or college. People need to understand gambling and BE SAFE. There is so much miss-information out there and with TikTok videos of max payouts and other such material, people need to understand fully how these machines works. Great video.
We agree!
@GambleSmart play itcool don't be a fool
You are so right. I've observed this with Dragon Link machines over and over again.
@@rasraccoon1270The more crazy ideas, the better. Speaking as a game creator/ owner. One must never mock these things 😂.
