    It’s on my retirement shopping list in 5 or 6 years time……hopefully with next gen battery tech and better range and removal of those silly haptic buttons

  • @user-tc7ji3oi1g
    @user-tc7ji3oi1g 8 месяцев назад +5

    Haptic buttons on the tiller are not that big a deal, I have them in my Tiguan and they work perfectly fine and are actually easy to use, I have never accidentally hit one. Having said that a return to real tactile buttons is always a better option. I think VW are stating to head in the right direction with the more efficient motors and upgrading the infotainment systems but will they move the charge port to the curb-side for right hand drive markets?

    The interior space looks great! So much open space and storage, this is exactly what a people mover van needs. Lots of open space and storage rooms.

    It will be interesting to see what warranty this EV has in Australia. At over $100k, a five year warranty and a smallish payload I doubt we will see many on the road.

    🇦🇺 If $100k - way overpriced! Not a fan of black but looks good in the lighter colours.

    With VW installing armrests in the boot space, is there holes in the floor to install the third row seats.
    Just installing one seat and having the rest as boot space would be perfect for my needs

  • @craigsampson3386
    @craigsampson3386 8 месяцев назад +22

    For $100+ k AUD I think most buyers would be expecting longer range, faster acceleration and a higher build quality. You're obviously not getting value, just paying for the brand name and bringing back the "bus".

    • @siafaalvin2209
      @siafaalvin2209 8 месяцев назад +2

      99% of perspective buyers aren’t doing 400km per day or racing, so I think those are moot points. Build quality remains to be seen, since no one’s actually bought one yet.

    • @craigsampson3386
      @craigsampson3386 8 месяцев назад +3

      @siafaalvin2209 I'd say 99% is an over exaggeration and also 400km on an electric vehicle isn't enough since they take ages to recharge compared to ICE vehicles, especially a van aimed at families with kids would be a nightmare making the trip that much longer.
      I bought a new Suzuki Jimny in 2020 and modified it which hurt its already low range with a 40L tank, it now averages around 400km a tank but atleast i can fill up petrol quickly and also double the capacity to 80L with an aftermarket larger fuel tank if i wanted.
      Also the tinny somewhat floppy plastics in this VW Buzz seen in this video doesn't shout I'm a $100k + vehicle lol but it could be improved on the final release version.

    • @siafaalvin2209
      @siafaalvin2209 7 месяцев назад

      @@craigsampson3386 that’s not an exaggeration at all. The people buying vans for their families are not worried about acceleration, given the astonishing number of slow vans and crossovers that these same families have been buying for ages. As for charging, most of that is done at home, at night while everyone’s sleeping. You wake up every day with full range, without having to go to a gas station - which is incredibly convenient for families. And I’d rather clean plastic and cheaper more durable materials in a people-mover than something luxurious that requires more maintenance and pampering. Finally, nobody’s paying cash for these; I bet the monthly payment probably compares favorably to a well-equipped but “cheaper” ICE vehicle when you consider the fuel and maintenance costs that EVs don’t have.

    • @Ben36363
      @Ben36363 6 месяцев назад

      @craigsampson3386 The build quality is great, everything is solid, it's just the materials that are used, and you couldn't pay me to drive a jimmy on a road trip, very uncomfortable little thing trying to keep up with the lorrys on the road.

    • @craigsampson3386
      @craigsampson3386 6 месяцев назад

      @Ben36363 the VW Buzz isn't out yet so how would you know that? I'm just going off from what i saw here in this video.
      Have you actually been in the new current 4th generation Suzuki Jimny? None of what you said is true anymore with the newest model, I'd know because i daily one.

    Looks super cool, full stop. Short range, puny power middling charging rate. Note that the middling range is an empty van. Fill it up with people and that range will crater. More than 10 seconds to 60 acceleration again empty! They are really , really trying to recreate the hippie microbus indeed warts and all! A for effort, F for execution.

    For sure, it's a cool-looking vehicle. I'm wondering if there's already a rush of people looking to get personalised plates along the lines of "LGHTYR" or similar. That said, none of the VW offerings you've driven appeal for some reason, and I'm certainly looking into getting either a PHEV (which I alone seem to pronounce "fev") or BEV. i'd say why if I could. As far as "coolest people-mover, interestingly, I can think of a few that were also pretty good-looking and/or cool in their day(s): Mitsubishi Nimbus; the first "low" Odyssey models; Nissan Prairie. And if you push boundaries, maybe even the Peugeot 308 Wagon (7-seat) and the Renault Espace (never sold here).

    We all know for on-road driving acceleration doesn’t really matter. But 10 seconds is just too slow by modern standards. Imagine with 8 people and a boot full of luggage.

    For the price it is very disappointing. As owner of VW Sharan, I can drive 800km with 1 tank, I have same space, probably better (7 seats) and 2nd row with 3 real seats. and it costs new 44k€ with all options, like leather seats, automatic gearbox, etc...
