    .41 mag is an awesome ctg for hunting , I’ve used it for years without any failure on game !
    Actually the .41 mag is right up there with the .44 mag , shoots flatter and does it with 20% less recoil !
    210 grain vs 240 grain !
    My hunting partner uses 265 grain hard cast WNFP in his .41 mag in Bear country , fine hunting ctg !
    Great test !

    I like 10mm and consider it comparable to 357 mag, just in semi auto. I don't know why everyone always wants to say it's on the heels of 41 mag. Maybe some weak stuff. 41 mag obviously has the potential to smoke 10mm. I've never shot a 41 mag but love reloading for the 44 mag. Always 41 mag brass on the local supply shelf while everyone always buys out the 44 mag brass. That could be a potential plus for reloaders of 41 mag. Thanks for demoing its potential. Lol...like the slow mo of the table going down.

    Great comparison video. Had a 41 super 14 contender. Performance on whitetail was impressive. Never got to use it on black bear but can’t imagine it would be found lacking. Alas it went to a friend in a trade. Replaced with a Blackhawk 7”. Performance is essentially the same but provisions for an optic are a challenge. It’s a great carry gun out west. I will admit the 10 gives an advantage in round count and ease of rapid fire on an advancing target.

    My first revolver was in 41 Mag. Everyone else at the time carried .357. That .41 would knock holes in things the .357s would just smudge. I was transferred to Alaska and bought it with a holster/belt and 2 50rd boxes of ammo for $100 from a friend just back from Viet Nam. It was never a popular caliber and ammo would sit on store shelves. I used to be able to get many 50rd boxes of Rem 210HP for $5.00 at smaller stores and the stores were glad to get rid of it. When Obama came into office, the price went up to $28 then up from there. Seems unbelievably cheap today. I also used to buy Rem 525rd .22LR HP Golden tins for $7.00, again until Obama came in. Soon, they would cost over $100 if you could get any. 2009 was the start of bad years for ammo prices but I have the feeling that is going to happen again very soon.

    41 mag for deer or black bear hunting with a hand gun if legal would be a good choice. 10 mm for double capacity with hard cast bullets in Big Bear country for defensive use, if that's all you got ? 41 mag has more fp's of energy, but trying to hit a bear in the head that is charging at you in a zig zag and your pulling a hard double action trigger, would be difficult. I'll take my chances with a semi auto with high capacity 10 mm bear loads if that was a choice to make. If you had shot the 10mm out of same length barrel then the 10 mm would have had better results but still not as good as the 41 mag. Good video as always.

    Both are very good options. However, it comes down to economics. The 41 has limited platforms that can get crazy expensive. 10mm has less expensive options and ammo is cheaper. If money isn't a factor then I would choose the 41.

  • @inkiquii
    @inkiquii 6 месяцев назад

    I bought my first 10mm based on its ability to come very close to the 41. Capacity of 15 beat out capacity of 6 though. The 41 has the case advantage, but the rule of 200 grains at 1200 fps is no slouch either. Now Add 30 years of advancements and both cartridges are fantastic. Id still take my STI Perfect 10 6in Longslide with its 21 round magazine over the 41 magnum any and every day. That however is a very expensive story in itself.

  • @jeffnearing719

    Both are great. However, it doesn't come down to cost and ammo availability, it comes down to what you can shoot effectively. If you have a unfriendly of the fury type charging you and you can't shoot effectively, you may as well have a pocket full of rocks.

    41 mag the forgotten caliber because of hype not that deserved. I have a S&W customer 41 mag made in the early 80s out of their custom shop. The key thing to remember is one thing. The main difference between the 41 + the 44 magnum is really slight except for 1 thing, Recoil. I'll give up the rest to be able to get back on target faster from much less recoil any day. I also use this exact same Underwood ammo, mainly because 41 is extremely hard to find and the quality is top-notch. Oh if wondering about mine it is a Stainless custom Round butt with wood handles with 2 3/4” barrel and combat sights. At gun ranges it scares everyone when it goes off 😉. Remember not only power is important but intimidation factor as well. One look a this compact stainless with a big bore is spooky enough, then add in a 2 ft flame shooting out from the short barrel and usually no one even wants to shoot it😂😂😂😂😂. If you buy one sadly you must either have deep pockets to buy ammo or just plan on reloading. Remember ballistic wise 44 + 41 very very similar as has been published many times and you also saw in his video comparison. The recoil part I've seen published but also did first-hand experience to double check and seems to be true. I wish this fellow weighed in on this and not sure if he has a way to test either. Cheers and hype isn't always what it seems

    Did you do top end 357 magnum vs 41 magnum? Out of similar barrel lengths, at least on paper, buffalo bore 180 grain 357 magnum seems just a step behind buffalo bore 210 grain 41 magnum, and closes the energy gap quite rapidly over 50, 75, 100, 125, 150 yards. I would love to see how they perform side by side at different ranges.

    .41 is more than the 10mm and I love the 10mm. 44 Mag is just as much more than the .41 if you give it a fair comparison. But really, at handgun velocities, you are talking about penetration and perm wound channel, and if you load hard cast solids like Keith swc designs (for the revolver) and rnfp for the auto, the bullets would carry on right through both blocks and into the water jugs.
