-- I have no earthly reason why I believed this, but I didn't think the 10mm could match the .357. I'd say the .357 edged out, but close as that was, who cares. Comes down to your preference of generally having more ammo in the gun and faster reload with the pistol, and the better reliability with the wheel gun. Love them both; not trying to start a debate. Having that RIA 10mm myself, I have to say, I'm glad I opted for it over the .45acp, for which I already have 6 or 7.
If you carry every day (these platforms only, I'd go 10mm. If it sits in your nightstand for 20 years and suddenly you pick it up and need it to shoot, the .357. The differences of effect on target really don't matter here, do they?

It's hard to beat a magnum revolver for damage. I was a wheel gun guy for many decades carrying a snubby model 60 S&W 357 mag. I went to .40, then .45acp, and finally settled with 357sig. for edc. Love me some 357sig.

I hand loaded some that got 1600 fps out of a 4" but it was over pressure.
      That was 800X powder
Might try some 2400 and Blue Dot

Found your channel from SPN Firearms.👍
I picked up a Springfield XDm Elite Compact 10mm for a Elk hunting trip I was planning, the hunt did not happen, but now I had this 10mm. I figure the 200 gr hard-cast stuff is best left to the woods, so I started researching the various loads to use it as an EDC.👍 Not as many choices as 9mm, but 10mm is getting some love these days, options are getting better.😁
Great testing, that 357 was impressive, but the form factor of the 10mm just wins for me.

The 125 gr .357 Magnum made it 1/4 inch more penetration than the heavier 155 gr 10mm?! Wow! That surprises me. I was thinking, in the beginning, a 158 gr magnum would be a more fair comparison for the 155 10mm and expected the 10mm 155 to beat the 125 in penetration. But the 125 held it’s own and won. Great video and demonstration

It's the sectional density, weight to diameter, that matters in penetration. The 357 Mag here actually has a little higher sectional density than the 155gr 10mm.

Growing up in the 1970's in the city of Knoxville, Tennessee... I remember hearing alot of talk about the 357. Magnum! You can see why! One guy used a 357. Magnum he said to shoot through the radiator of some gas thieves at a gas station when they started to drive off, apparently it hit the hoodlums hood latch and blew the hood open, stopping there get away attempt as they couldn't see where to drive... lol

Just crazy performance by the 357 Mag. Great video to send to anybody who questions one shot stop statistics. And with 100 ft/s less 357 Sig would be right up there, plus the capacity advantage. Any LEO driving alone and is allowed to do so, should switch to 357 Sig (or at least .40 S&W)

Another great test! I don't think anyone in their right mind is going to argue that the 357 Mag/125 gr combo is not an effective self defense choice. It's been top dog for a whole lot of years - in the revolver world. For those who rely on revolvers there isn't much in the way of a more effective round to carry. Still, there are downsides, since there are always downsides! The heavy recoil, capacity & muzzle blast take some work to deal with. Reloads... well reloads pretty much suck for revolvers, when compared to the semi-auto pistols.
When compared side by side, the amount of damage between them isn't really significant and certainly wouldn't make any difference to someone who caught the round! Like the 357, the 10mm has it's downsides as well. The guns are generally larger than it's little brother, the 9mm, and it too has some recoil issues a shooter has to deal with. All of this can be overcome with training and determination. The reload issue, while not exactly common in self defense situations, is easy enough with the semi auto's compared to the revolver, and the added capacity of the average 10mm auto is another advantage, all together giving the 10mm semi auto handgun the advantage. Not that a skilled revolver guy is going to lose a fight automatically, but when confronted with multiple bad guys at the same time, might tend to run short of ammo in a worst case situation. Slim chances, true, but never zero. For these reasons, I carry a 10mm auto pistol and a reload (21 rounds total compared to 12 for a revolver with 1 reload). Short of carrying around an AR all the time (so inconvenient!) , I believe it gives me the best odds of coming out on top in most situations where I might have to fight to survive. So yeah, I think the 10mm is the true King!
    Cheers,
    jc

If you are a weight lifter and strong man like myself carrying a Ruger GP100 w 5 inch barrel is peace of cake(not bragging just fact).
Reloading with speed loaders I am close to being fast as semi auto.
Takes practice but once proficient its not that slow at all(second or under 2 slower vs mag reload).
I 'll take power and well aimed shot from fast draw holster with no slide and safety to think about vs always carrying with one in the chamber and wondering if that mechanical safety will always work.
My Ruger has trigger and hammer work done on it and follow up shots are fast.
I also like my MR920 in 9mm other days as it is much lighter and follow up shots much faster.
Depends on where I am and treat level.
Good comment friend and stay health, strapped and legit.
      God bless.

After a few years of revolver shooting and reloading with Comp speed loaders, I'll agree that a revolver can be loaded pretty dam fast, a lot faster than most people think! But I switched from the S&W Model 19 I had for a couple of years to a 1911 and never looked back. Actually, I need to get out & practice a bit with the revolver, so I don't lose my touch completely! In the last 20 years or so most of my revolver shooting was either my Redhawk or Vaqureo, both in .44 mag. My poor 586 has been seriously neglected during this time. Plus dumping the 9mm and going to the 10mm has got me doing most of my practice with the 10mm. I'll drag it out this summer, it's much too cold out for my delicate heiny this time of year! That's one thing I liked about Tucson (way back in another life) was it only snowed once every 5 or 10 years and was all gone by noon! Not here in MO! Snow.... blech!
      Cheers,
      jc

The lighter, higher velocity is what gave the .357 the 1/4" edge I would say. It is odd to me how many people have sworn up and down that the 10mm was not even close to the .357. Just like people will tell me that the .308 is equal to or more powerful than a .270, which used a .30-06 case. More people need to look at reloading manuals.

That is shocking performance from 357. I once new an old school police investigator who told me he had to do a report every time an officer shot someone. They had 357 magnum revolvers back then. They were trained to fire twice/assess before firing more into someone. But no one ever had to fire the second shot in all the shootings he went to because the first time the perp was hit, they dropped. And every single time they took a torso hit, they died. Just sharing a story.

Swde, Check out " Extream Penetrators." Those are scary & no fragmentation at all & can be reloaded if not shot into steel or some other hard stuff. Will outperform ANY H.P.

awesome comparison. L&S for me. glad i found this video. if ya get a chance, check out my review on 10mm vs 9x25 dillon. the dillon is kinda hybrid of 10mm and 357mag. better than both i think. haven't gotten to hit gel yet but i'm sure it'll be sweet. did you make the gel? considering buying clear ballistics but may go cheaper for now. thanks again. well done.

.357 mag doesn't really shine until it is shot out of a 6+ inch barrel.

😈🔱👿...i lov revolvers...but 357 vs 10mm is a no brainer..6 shots vs 15 and the 10mm hits almost as hard..but you need to get good ammo or the 10mm is crap

Funny people still think the 10mm is more powerful. 357 will always be more powerful idc what anyone says a 10mm is not getting close to 180 grain bullet going nearly 1600fps out of a 6 inch 357 barrel.

Look I don't know if this guy can't see or if he's just trying to make the 10 mm guys out there happy but I know for a fact that 10 mm was not pushing 4 inches there's no way, for you 10 mm boys out there you need to quit saying that the 10 mm is more powerful than the 357 it just isn't there's no way . As a matter of fact I would rather carry a 45 super or a 450 smc than a 10 mm

Well if someone said ok choose one 357 or 10mm I’m taking 10mm all day ..357 is nice and all and it is certainly more powerful and I’d love to have one… But,the 10mm makes much more sense you can get a nice G20 for what 600sih bucks put a light and laser on it slap on a red dot and it comes with 15 round magazines…

I like semi-autos, but they're still prone to issues that you just don't see them happening in a revolver, like failure to feed, failure to eject, slide bite,.............. I've been hit with brass more than once while firing a semi-auto at the range. With lots of practice, one can be as quick in reloading a revolver as one reloading a semi-auto. Moreover, a .357 mag. revolver is more versatile than a 10mm pistol. Anyway, that's my take.

@@williamwatson4625, Let me guess. You've had absolutely NO experience with a G20 or XDM-E 10 MM have you. 1000 round torture tests & no malfunctions no matter what you feed em & reload is 1 second. No revolver can even come close to that, ever.
