Shout out to Colt for considering 6 inches a Python.
😂
Well played, best laugh I’ve had in a long time😂
Truly enormous
🤣🤣🤣
Ur m o m does too
Much like The Holy Hand Grenade's number is 3, the .357's number is 125. 👍
😎👊
And there was much rejoicing and celebration and dining on leg of lamb, roast chicken, and breakfast cereals and orangutan.
@@user-bz7fg1pk4lbo7 😆 ❤
But the holy hand grenade is only for killer rabbits. 🐇
Are you sure it's not 4? The instructions seem unclear to me.
Looks like these are the same as the ol' Federal C357B, but back in 50 round boxes like they used to sell them. You really can't go wrong with these loaded in your revolver. The classic "manstopper" round.
Yessir 😎👍
This has been my preferred load for .357mag since 1992. Good stuff!
Nice 😎👊
Love seeing the 6” Python doing what it was designed to do. Also good to see Federal put out a budget round that preforms.
The Python is just so smooth.
.357 Mag has always been a solid performer.👍
No doubt.😎👊
Thats an understatement
It's impossible to not love the .357 Mag. These bullets remind me of the Sierras you told me to check out for the .45 ACP. Cheap and effective!
Yep. Not too shabby.
These especially from the longer barrel are looking fantastic at any price.
I asked you for an evaluation of Federal Train and Protect and my wish was evaluated..... Thank You sir!
😎👊
Ask me for something
Fantastic results! I heard that Federal watered down this Train & Protect load. It is nice to see you proved that wrong. Bringing out the Python for this test was icing on the cake.
Appreciate ya, brother!😎👊
That's why I roll my own.
That 6” was impressive as heck.
Yessir
The best man stopper in the biz!
Loved this Tools. Brought back memories. In my issued S&W model 66, we ran Federal 125 gr jhp. Yep, I'm old.
Nice 😎👊
At least your agency issued a man's caliber, not some weak sauce 38 Special or 9 mm.
Same here. I have both my issue mod 65, and my main carry mod 28, and neither are for sale at any price.
We were issued Federal 125gr jhp or Remington 125gr sjhp. Walked away from three shootings during my career, and the 125gr jhp did it's job very well! And yeah, I'm old too.😏
I would love to see how the Taurus 905 9mm snubby stacks up against the 605
🤔
Dang! Would be curious to see how these would do out of a levergun!
I second this motion!!
Not a bad idea.
These seem to run about the same as the Remington 125gr, which gets to 2000fps out of 18" lever. Too fast though for these bullets as they just go to pieces out of lever. I prefer 158gr for 6" + barrels, especially with SJHP.
@abengelbrecht What 158gr would you recommend? These Federal loads are very comfortable to shoot, but I'm looking to try others and find my Smith's soulmate.
@@abengelbrechtperfect for coyotes and Rockchucks
I like that you use a short one as well as my 357 magnum is 3"
😎👊
If you go back to the 80's when this was one of the best available, the fragmentation was part of the reason these worked so well. The Remington scalloped 125's were the highest rated and also had near explosive performance.
A good friend of mine who was a homicide investigator said the same thing, based on what he saw on the street.
Thanks for the testing. Makes me appreciate 357 sig out of 5 inch barrel with very comparable foot-pounds of energy to the 125 tested in the Python with the six inch barrel. This from a 115 grain xtp. My current load averaged out of 10 rounds 1630 fps with 678 foot-pounds of energy. Havent tried 125s in the 357 sig yet as I can put a little more powder behind the 115s and have been happy with the result. Couple that with the ability to be semi auto and take magazines, I'm not sure why 357 sig hasn't caught on more yet. However, its picking up steam as I just recently discovered how well it actually does and am now fully invested in loading and shooting it.
😎👊
I enjoy seeing the 357 Magnum's power on display and everyone acknowledging it's power. The reason I enjoy it is that the 357 Sig equals the 357 Magnum's power in the 125gr and 158gr weight class but doesn't get the recognition it should get. The 357 Sig getting a velocity of 1600 fps and more with a 125gr bullet out of a 6 inch barrel is easily done.
i was a cop long ago. we used 357 magnum sw model 66. ammo was 158 grain hollow point. it does the job. i like your videos.
Thank you sir. Appreciate that!😎👊
The Bullet and the Performance looks like the old Federal Classic 125 Gr JHP that was so popular and street reliable, back in my Police Revolver Days. This was the load that was declared "King of the Streets" back in the late 70's and early 80's. The Remington was popular also, but everybody wanted the Federal Loading for duty. As a Firearms Instructor in those days who was involved in the investigation of all Officer involved shootings with my Department and several other smaller departments around us, I can say that this was an absolutely devastating round and I personally never saw it fail in the shootings I saw or read reports on. Our Department issued the S&W Model 65 4" and "Defectives" carried the 3" Heavy Barrel. Officers had the option for a Model 19 or 66 with a 4 inch and also the 2 1/2" barrel for plain clothes and off duty. The recoil was a little stiff out of the shorter barrels, but we always had good performance, no matter the gun.
It had a 96% one shot stop rate back in those days. I read how even doped up assailants would drop like sacks of potatoes.
@@PerceptionVsReality333 LOL..... Yeah, there was a saying among the old guys that carried it. "If you shoot somebody, and they don't go down, walk around behind him to see what he's propped up on".
I've been running Train and Protect in my 9. It was damn near the same price as FMJ at the local hardware store!😮❤❤❤
Nice 😎👊
Magnum gelly time!
😎👊
It's Old, but It Works, Jelly Time.
Great test. Love 357 mag and 10 mil. You can go from rough part of town straight to back country fishing and be protected. Tools for president!!!
I have a Dan Wesson in the 357 so this is interesting to me. I was impressed with the performance but I am so partial to the 158g that it is hard to think of something else. Love the Python with the 6"bbl. The muzzle blast from that 2.5 inch bbl rattled my teeth all the way through my computer speakers. lol
😂😂😂 It's feisty.
It's hard to mess up 357 mag. The bullet out of the Python reminds me of years ago when we were pushing 40 S&W bullets out of a 5" or 6" 10mm pistol how the jacket petals would wrap all the way around the base.
Yeah, you know that bad boy is delivering a thump when it does that.
I’m kind of disappointed in the velocity from the snub. If bulk Remmington green and white box 125sjhp can consistently break 1250 from my 2” I expect to see that from everyone else. The projectile did well at both velocities. Keep up the great work Mr,Targets
Thank you sir.😎👊
Anotha awesome ammo testin from the greatest ammo tester on the planet. I'm a 357 magnum guy, I have a 686, sp101, gp100, I usually run underwood 125, 158, and 357 sig 115 and 125, underwood never disappoints. please keep up the good work brother you are tremendously appreciated. 💯🇺🇲💯🇺🇲💯🇺🇲💯🇺🇲
@@Nathan-xb4yg Thank you sir. 😎👊
Out of my 2 1/4 inch SP101 i get 1170fps with the Remington 125s.
I guess Ed McGivern was right. There will never be a more versatile. Manageable, and effective handgun for multiple purposes than the 357 magnum. I am going to get some of these. I don’t shoot the 357 much due to cost, but that may change now. Thanks for the video.
Outstanding performance out of both barrel lengths! The damage and fragspansion were impressive. Definitely will be keeping my eyes open to pick some up. Thanks for the jelly test Tools!
😎👊
125grn loads like that were THE man stopper rounds in law enforcement service for years but mostly launched through 4" barrels. I was issued a Colt's Trooper III in 1988 and the Federal 125grn loading of the era was what the department issued to me. In that heavy frame revolver, it was like shooting .38Spl +Ps and was very, very accurate.
Not very many bad guys took more than 2 .357 magnum rounds and the fight was gone and usually they were DRT . Always felt confident with my S&W model 66 and 125 gr SJHP .
Thanks for bringing back the .357 Mag! Great weekend wishes to ya
Hey buddy I’m glad you did a video on this. Awhile back I was shooting some of these exact rounds through my S&W 686-P with 5” barrel and I wasn’t liking them due to the large amount of white smoke I was getting from each shot. More than usual. I don’t see that happening to you. I have a second box that I haven’t tried yet so I’m gonna try it out this weekend. Maybe it was a bad batch in that first box. I did notice that for a 125 grain it packed a good punch! 👊 If I could just see where my shot went through all the smoke! LOL!
Interesting. Wonder what that was about.🤔
@@ToolsandTargets I'll let you know how the second box goes. I use Federal in other calibers but my favorite 357 Magnum ammo is Norma 158 grain JHP and FMJ. Clean, precise and smooth every shot. Yes sir. 😎
Thanks for the great test
Great test with great results, Thanks for the great review
Thank you sir.😎👊
It's hard to beat a good..357 and you only get 3 things from it. Blast, recoil and results 😊
I just love a good 357 video. Looks like some good stuff.
Thanks for the excellent testing videos!
".357 will send you to Heaven jelly time" .... LMAO!!!🤣🤣😆😂😁
💥😎👊💥
Awesome Test! I wont be replacing my HST with these, but good to know they expand so well, as an option. Love the way you either show the same ammo out of different length barrels in the same caliber, for comparison... or the same ammo across different calibers (9/40/45) with the same length barrel of each, for comparison. Love me some 357Mag. If I didnt have a 1963 Model Blackhawk 6.5", Id probably get a python. But, my 63 Blackhawk makes a good pairing with my 84 Redhawk 44Mag 7.5". Keep up the great work brother!
Nice. This looks and performs like the old Federal Hi-Shock 125gr SJHP. Good to see they can still load it. Gotta love comletent performance from a non hype loading. Not saying all hype loads are bad, but it sure would be nice if competency was a virtue, rather than a feature.
Good stuff Tools! ALWAYS happy to see 38/357 tested! Just ordered a Henry "Heirloom" 357 Big Boy X with the custom serial number made to be my family name. They're saying it'll be a few months before it comes in but I'm good with that.
Also, great demo of how 357 loses SO MUCH VELOCITY in short barrels. I really think anything below 3 inches you're eating all that recoil and blast for little to no gain over 38spl.
Wow, That will be very cool to have!😎👊
@@ToolsandTargets yes sir! And no more expensive than a regular Big Boy X, just gotta be willing to wait. I think a lot of gun shops are offering it through Henry until August of this year, you can probably get one through one of your local places if you're interested. Just an FYI. Thanks for another good test 👍🏻
The good Ol' Federal 125 SJHP. Probably the most effective defense load made for a handgun, with the Remington 125 SJHP a close second. These bullets are the exception to the rule that the best defensive handgun bullets stay intact. These things expand fast and those fragments create all kinds of nastiness while the cup and core keep trucking for incredible penetration.
On the occasion I carry my Rugers or my Highway Patrolman they're loaded with these. I don't use them in my K frame Smiths, even my 66s and 65 gets .38 Special after I ruined a forcing cone shooting this stuff. Cracked? Hell no it blew a chunk out of it.
Man these things are beating the Remington 125jhp in velocity from 6” and those things are legendary
Pretty good stuff.😎👊
It's ALMOST impossible to mess up 357 Magnum.
That was a great test! I'll look for some of that for my 4" S&W 66-2
This is the classic full-powered 125g SJHP made by Fed, Rem, and Win back in the day (1970s), and it had a reputation for putting down BGs like a bolt of lightning ⚡️⚡️⚡️ VERY fast, lightly constructed by today's standards so it opened & fragmented explosively, core penetrated adequately, with big flash & big KA-BOOM. I'm just guessing, but I'd bet that ER surgeons and coroners very quickly learned to recognize GSWs with this uniquely messy 125g signature!
This round clearly has the disorienting flash-bang ingredients for "psychological stops," plus ragged-edged penetration to the vitals, plus high-vel fragmentation shredding a horrific wound channel. I hope the old-school cops will chime in on this video and tell us what they saw this round do on the street.
Its downsides were/ are: disorienting to the shooter who practices only with milder .38 SPL ammo, shaky performance against barriers (esp. automobile bodies & windshields), and it's hard on K frames due to flame-cutting of the top strap. It gave rise to the L frame, to the maxim of "train with the ammo you carry," and I think it proved very difficult to score highly on extended police quals of 50-ish rounds, esp. with weak-hand and rapid-fire stages. Problematic in low light, too, if you need more than an initial 1-2 round burst to solve your tactical situation.
In my estimation, it's *handgun perfection* in a close encounter with 1-3 BGs, but sub-optimal in an extended firefight; thus, it's great for SD/HD/CC, but too one-dimensional for today's general-purpose LEO duties.
Often for nightstand duty I bring out my Taurus 627 tracker with a 6.5" ported barrel. That thing shoots like a dream with low recoil and high accuracy. I highly recommend that 7-shot revolver. Currently, I'm using Federal Hydra-Shok 130 grain low recoil ammo. However, I may have to pick up some of this ammo if it's cheaper and performs just as well. To me that performance looks perfect as I personally like multiple wound channels created by fragments in a self-defense round. But for hunting I prefer rounds that don't fragment too much so I'm not accidentally eating any of that in my meat (or anyone I'm feeding that meat to).
I have the ported 4" 608 from Taurus. It's a great shooting revolver.
LOVE MY THREE SCREW RUGER 357 WOTH 6.5 INCH BARREL.GREAT VIDEO.
I carry a 605 a lot, this looks like good carry ammo. Always enjoy watching 👍👍
Awesome results, I will be looking for some of that for my tool’s, thankx for all you do, you are my go Man for good ammo
Great test. I’ll look for some of that.👍
Nice test as always. I was kind of surprised at the Colt velocities and was glad to see the slugs also performed well in the snubbie. Looks like a good all around choice - Federal loads 'em warm!
Nice round. Should do well out of my 3 inch barrel. These will go on my short list. Thank you my friend for another great test.
Back in the day when I packed a Ruger Security Six that was what I carried.
It got very good results on the street.
I bought 4 boxes of these last year for my lcr 357 and never shot them yet. Good to know it will do a good job.
I'm a .357 wheelgun kind a guy!! Thanks for the test!!
🤠👊
Huge improvement on the videos over the years, brother. congratulations. A lot of us would love to see you test out the Train and Protect in 40 S&W out of your Glock 27.
I love it when your content validates my ammo choices. :D
💥😎👊💥
Good test Tools and some good shooting good stuff have a great weekend stay safe and God Bless.
Excellent ammo and another great video thanks keep up the good fight
wonderful results from both barrel lengths. Good job Federal
Pretty sure this is close to the old "trooper load" that made the .357 so famous back in the day before really fancy high tech hollow points that perform so well 👍
Nice test. I was wondering how these Training & Protect ammo was going to perform. Thinking about getting the 9mm and 10mm to try out. Great test and commentary. That Python impact shock is massive at almost 700 ft. Lbs. of energy. Best of both worlds there. Good show my friend. ⭐️⭐️🇺🇸⭐️⭐️👊
Love me some 357 mag cartridges , I guess it’s an old man’s long time favorite, the 158 gr jsp’s are my favorites, the 125 gr jhp’s my second favorite
Thx for your tests , Carried 125JHP Federal for many years - a long time ago ⭐️🔫🇺🇸
looks to be some good stuff thanks 👍
Very good gel test. Thanks for sharing 👍🇺🇸
Thank you sir.😎👊
Looks like they have a winner on their hands. I don't mind some frag if it still has the penetration to go along with it. More holes are gooder.
.357 My bed side companion, Thanks for posting.
I love that 605 shorty ! Nice lookin/packin tool !! Can't go wrong with a 357 maggie !! I've used 125 jhp for years...I'm kinda partial to the wheel guns as thats what I learned the basics with, thanks tools !!!
Thank you sir. Gotta love some good ol magnum.😎👊
I just picked up a lever gun in 357 mag so id love to see you add carbines on the pistol calibers ! I will buy this ammo ! Thanks for another good on Tools !
Good one 👍
😎👊
Nice test Tools, really good results. As for the fragmentation, I'll take it along with that amount of penetration. I can imagine the surgeon looking at the task ahead when he sees that wound.
Have a great weekend.
Be vigilant and always be safe my friend.
Haven't been able to find this stuff. Looks like good valuue.
Out of the 6in it thumped the gel pretty hard & did well out of the 2in. I might need to find some for the Taurus 627 4in. Nice stuff! 👍🙏
Yep. Python spiced it up for sure.
@@ToolsandTargetsBigger difference in energy than I expected. The 2in did well.
Out of the snubbie, this stuff averaged 1067 feet per second and 315 energy foot pounds at 50 yards. Nothing special, but we've all seen 9mm stuff that barely puts out those kind of numbers at the muzzle.
Out of the 6" gun, the ammo averaged 1354 feet per second and 508 energy foot pounds at 50 yards.
This stuff is showing why .357 magnum has been the king of stopping power for so long.
Yessir. Definitely makes me wanna run some more .357 mag tests.
Yes it does look like pretty good performance no doubt!
Awesome test!! Love the silver snake, absolutely beautiful! Is it a newer model Colt?
As for ammo performance, it did exactly what it was supposed to; it is after all the goldilocks weight for .357Mag. Winchester, Remington both have a similar load to this in 125gr, all SJHP's; maybe worth looking for those to test?
Glad to see some good performance from that ammo.
Same here.
I've heard this is a great "all around" defensive & training round, thanks for the test Brian
I have a 686+/2 1/2" barrel. I believe I'm going to have to try a box of those federals T&P rounds. Thanks for the info and testing. very impressive.
😎👊
👍👍 Thanks Tools….I think you said it best, that was some nastiness. I run 357 out of a 3” sp 101 and I think this would work great.
For sure.😎👊
Another awesome video brother 👊🏻🇺🇸
Thank you sir.😎👊
🇦🇺😎👍You know the 357 mag is my friend 😉👍🏁….Wow , fantastic velocities 🏁…we haven’t got any of that stuff down here yet…devastating 😳…imagine how devastating the results would be out of a carbine rifle…🇺🇸🏁fantastic results mate🏁🇺🇸
Might have to put this on the rifle list.😎👊
Another good ammo test
Started to pick up some of that ammo in 9mm cause it was such a good price but decided not to but now I think I’ll grab a couple of boxes considering the price 👍
Thanks. Nice to find a non premium round to use
😎👊
Wow! Impressive with the snubby for sure! But my favorite barrel length in revolvers is 6” and boy that sure would do the job on 2 and 4 legged critters. I will keep my eye out for these. Fantastic test good sir. 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
The Python definitely thumped it.💥🐍💥
Great video brother.
Thank you sir.😎👊
Absolutely outstanding out of both guns. This is an excellent option for carry and home defense. I hunter might even opt to consider these for 50 yards and under for deer & maybe hog out of 6"-10" barrels.
Agreed. I was happy with it.😎👍
Would leave alot of lead in the critters !
@@charlesmorgan1879 Do you think it would at a distance? I am not sure. I haven't used anything but 44 magnum to harvest deer handgun hunting. So 357 isn't my preference. But for folk who have a longer barreled 357 I am curious if this would be a decent fairly available and fairly affordable option to use. Appreciate your input. Stay safe.
@guardianminifarm8005 I've not hunted with handguns but by the amount of lead lost in this test...I would use a copper expanding round . Depending on game & shot placement tho would work , I guess , if ya have too .lol
I love running 357 mag it's one of the funner handgun rounds i own and you can run 38 special too.. i prefer the hot stuff for defense but for plinking the 38 special is pretty nice.. the fire ball and recoil of the 357 is addictive lol might not be a heavy bullet or big around like a 10mm or 45 but they are always moving really fast and I imagine it's a pretty potent round
Yep. Always one of the more fun calibers. Strong enough to get the blood pumping but not break your hand.😂
Nice loads, have to pick some up. Good on ya 😉
😎👊
very good preforming round and good choice on the test guns barrel length. interesting to see what that 6 inch did with this ammo.
Nice testing. I bought a "poor mans python" 586 6" for some future deer hunting.
Good stuff👍
Impressive Ammo test Tools, that's some good 357mag ammo.👊🇺🇸

Wow beautiful day for testing that's a decent load perfect for 4in or 6in barrel and great for small to medium varmint out of a carbine with that frag dump 👍👍
Mhmm 😎👍
Tools has a Colt Python ! Dudes been keeping the hot stuff back - eh ? Sweet !
Never had the chance to shoot one - Lovely handgun bud ! Thanks - Enjoyed the video . 😅
Thank you sir. I got two of em actually.🤭
Good test. I like the 6” python. It put the horse power in that 357. I picked up some hornady black in 357 mag 125 gr. I’m going to run 7 with my 686-6 and see how they hit. I picked up 2-25 round boxes.
Yessir. The snake woke it up.💥🐍💥
Beautiful Colt! Could you try this load out of your carbine just for giggles?
I love sjhp for my magnums.
