on the first supply run mission in the game i felt SO stressed that a volatile was gonna send me flying the second i stop thinking about parkour or going to the safezone.
I just played it for the first time it’s fun and it’s scary and I don’t get scared from games normally, daytime isn’t bad but it changes at night, i go from being a badass overpowered acrobatic to me running for my life from the night zombies the music is really well done and chilling, I can’t believe I never played it earlier I love games with any parkour and combat and zombies it’s literally my type of game
It’s probably my favorite zombie game right now, the zombies kinda remind me of the last of us zombies in a sense that they are scary but the last of us zombies can sometimes be repetitive and dying lights zombies move in a realistic physics based way and it could be a different experience each zombie you fight
They did such a great job creating the stark difference between playing in the day and playing at night that is so fun, creepy, and effective! And as you mentioned the physics on the zombies are so fun as well. I love seeing them shamble around and over objects or how their body reacts to getting kicked into an object!
Even worse is now during the main game during the night there can be both running exploding hazmats and volitiles chasing you. (The sound design still holds up even to today's standards.
When I had replayed the intro after realizing that Crane helped with the traps for the expedition I watched the whole trailer again when Crane goes to bed. God I love this game. I've played the whole game like 5 times.

One of the best zombie games ever made, the parkour mixed with the weight of combat just make for a absurdly satisfying experience and excellent combat. Absolutely a must play
For me the coolest part of the trailer when I initially saw it is how it absolutely perfectly describes the game especially at the end. You can hold on to your hope but there's just something there that's gonna take it away and every freaking time it's most likely a volatile that comes out of nowhere and just ruin your entire night. Those words will forever live in infamy because of how the first dying light is all about the hopelessness of the situation that you're in so the words good night and good luck carry some serious weight.

Zomvie stories therefore often play with the idea that an average person, if they are clever enough, would reach a high level of freedom. Some very good points and insights! This game really does give you a strong power fantasy that lets you have tons of fun exploring and interacting with the world. To tie into your points, I think they also went about it really well where you start the game as a fairly ordinary guy (other than being a government agent and being instantly good at parkour lol), and you learn more and more parkour moves throughout the game while upgrading your skills making it feel like a pretty realistic progression. In the beginning, you can't really fight too many zombies or else they'd overpower you, but by the end, you've got powerful weapons and lots of awesome abilities that make killing regular zombies pretty easy.

I may have not been aware of the release of Dying Light, nor seen the trailer during E32013, but when my dad introduced me to it I literally could not stop playing it. Then, when I heard that they were making a second one, I freaked the fuck out and begged my dad to pre-order it, in which he didn't, but he did buy it day of release. I love both of the games equally, they both have their amazing qualities but also very noticeable downsides. The first game has an amazing story, emotional music, an immersive atmosphere + ambience, and lovable characters, but lacks interactive combat and parkour (in comparison to the 2nd game). Rais is the perfect example of what people consider a villain, as, yes, he's doing what he thinks is best for surviving, but he's also fully aware of how sadistic and cruel it is. The second game has AMAZING verticality, parkour, combat, music, and diversity, but lacks a hooking story and lovable characters (other than Aidenbabaiden) like crane, jade, rahim, dr zere, brecken, lena, and spike. It also lacks a much hated villain like Rais. Waltz is just some scientist that experimented on kids to save his daughter, and Aiden is just out for revenge.

I first played this game july of 2017 on my ps4 off of the memory of it being a somewhat okay fps melee zombie game that dashieXP played when it first came out. I soon learn it was nearly if not is the best in its genre. I was 13 years old not really understanding what journey I was about to embark and how much it was going to imprint on me for years to come. I was a fan of the far cry series and always wanted a zombie game that didn’t make you feel like your just running around kill things but actually surviving and this game struck the cord hard and echo’d its tune for a long time. Have recently been playing it on my ps5 now 20 years old and still marvel at its charm and how great of a game it is. I will not really ever play dying light 2 or entertain it. Most likely I’ll see what dying light the beast is going to offer but was not fond of the next installment of the original.
I skipped the first release of DL2, watching online gameplay and youtube vids, thinking this is not it. November 2024, finally get to play the game and I have to say that, it is not that bad, the physics, the combat ( the skill tree is ass tho). Jumping straight from DL1 to 2 doesn't seems that far off in those terms. But yeah DL1 is still the better game, the atmosphere in closed to none, truly the best open world zombie game we ever had
Thanks so much for watching! I actually have a coloboma. It doesn't affect my eyesight much other than it makes the world brighter so I have to wear sunglasses outside most days.
Dying Light 2's issues felt like laziness It's like when they finished Dying Light 1's main development they said 'okay save this as the skeleton' and after they did that, they continued adding more and more details to it, smoothing it out and tweaking the art style and smoothness of the movements, and adding such little details you wouldnt even notice unless you looked, but it was there. Then Dying Light 2 was being made and they said 'okay copy paste the skeleton' did so and then said "okay everything is here" and afterwards all they did was upgrade the parkour system and add a glider. "Yeah that'll be enough, lets go for lunch!" only to come back at the very end, fire the story writer over false allegations and say "okay we have 2 days to make a story" meanwhile the story was already made, they just really fucking hated Chris Avellone and desperately wanted the false allegations to be true. Dying light 2 is fun, the parkour is vastly improved. The combat feels like it's taken a step back, and the enemy difficulties was broken and just left like that. You borderline cannot play the game at night because it spawns 4 volatiles every 10 feet who hone in on your location, no matter what they do, they walk right towards you. 'yeah this is fine' The story, which was to be a massive thing with several factions and a huge map that changed over the course of it, was instead cut in half, reduced to 2 factions, and one of the factions was clearly made 'the good guys' despite the fact all their characters are scumbags, assholes and bloodthirsty lunatics. Meanwhile the 'bad guys' are completely reasonable people except for one of their leaders who is obsessed with hanging innocent people which ironicly, makes him better suited to the good guys, IE the literal people who tried to hang you and sang and danced while they did, just because you didnt have a bracelet

It's like when they finished Dying Light 1's main development they said 'okay save this as the skeleton' and after they did that, they continued adding more and more details to it, smoothing it out and tweaking the art style and smoothness of the movements, and adding such little details you wouldnt even notice unless you looked, but it was there.
'yeah this is fine'
The story, which was to be a massive thing with several factions and a huge map that changed over the course of it, was instead cut in half, reduced to 2 factions, and one of the factions was clearly made 'the good guys' despite the fact all their characters are scumbags, assholes and bloodthirsty lunatics. Meanwhile the 'bad guys' are completely reasonable people except for one of their leaders who is obsessed with hanging innocent people which ironicly, makes him better suited to the good guys, IE the literal people who tried to hang you and sang and danced while they did, just because you didnt have a bracelet
