For IGN and AAA games, if I bother to look at IGN's score, I just minus 5 and pretend its a 5 point scale. The real secret is to find a reviewer that has a similar opinion on games you have already played. At least then you know their score should be similar to yours.
I don't think it's the camera, It looks the same no matter which direction he's looking at Probably just a slightly different looking eye that isn't perfectly circular
Another point about early access and review is the importance of a good first impression. The general gaming puplic will often not play every game but will gage the quality based on reviews and the general discussion of a game online. This can people say: "Oh yeah, that game is good." or "I heard it was hot garbage.". The review score themselves might not matter that much if the discussion around the game is positive in general. Gamers did not look at reviews of Concord and made the decision not to buy and play. It was not well marketed and the discussions online were overwhelmingly negative. Games Journalist and Influencers in general have a lot of power with how we percive a product. The games officall marketing might determine a games immediate succses but I belive that long term success comes from good word of mouth. Trailers stop mattering once the games is out (at least mostly), but the reviews and disscussion of the game will determine a games long term success. (Or at least in my opinion)
Some very good points! Word of mouth is definitely king! And you're totally right about reviews and online discussion being a core aspect of that. I never saw a trailer for Space Marine 2, but just heard how great it was from the discussion surrounding it. A great example is Apex Legends. Their entire marketing strategy was relying on games journalists and influencers since they didn't release a trailer ahead of the game's launch.
I wish we called out RUclipsrs for these practices. Dunkey became uncharacteristically fond of Sony just in time for the PS5 launch. Meanwhile, Yahtzee was calling out Sony for denying them review codes based on his criticisms of their big titles like giving TLOU2 worst game of the year.
depending on context mediocre and average can be the same, though usually mediocre is worse, then again, with how bloated the numbers usually are I'd agree with IGN(something I thought to be impossible) and say that 5/10(on IGN's scale) is mediocre if not worse.
tbh I dont want an unbiased review, rather I prefer a helpful review. There's a reason I dont look up journalist reviews anymore, I've found content creators who have similar values when playing a game, so their opinions often align with my own. the idea of something being "too subjective" when your talking about video games is wild to me, I want to know how you felt playing the game, not just the opinion of everyone else. I think IGN sucks so much because they approach reviews as though they should be (and pretend their reviews are) objective, when reviews are inherently biased. dont buy a game the second it comes out, wait a little while and get a trusted reviewers opinion, and for gods sake stop preordering games. people blindly buying games allows publishers the power they do over journalists, leading to the 7/10 meta of today.
IGN STANDS FOR IMAGINE GAMES NETWORK?????? I thought it was a joke name meaning "In game name". Damn, okay they're even lamer than I thought for years.

Very clever! And I fully agree about finding a similar opinionated reviewer!
Gaming news media is important. It goes to show just how unreliable and untrustworthy real news companies can potentially be.
It really does unfortunately.
Great video! Super insightful! I would never have developed this kind of insight on my own because I haven’t read an IGN review in like a decade 😂
I envy you 😂
your left eye looked freaky like a cat until i realized it was reflecting the camera

Love the Black ops 2 lobby music in the background
In other news, water is wet!
Dustborn has the same score on IGN as DOOM(2016)

Great video. Leaving this comment so I can show my friends when you’re a much bigger youtuber. Keep up the great content
Thanks so much, I appreciate it!
While IGN is just terrible for objective Game journalism...Reviews are not objective. Find a reviewer(s) that share your tastes and follow them.
Very true!
Interesting break down! Reminds me a lot of Rotten Tomatoes and how little I trust their critics.
"IGNorance".
As a console only gamer, Steam is usually the first place I go to for reviews.
Everyone knows IGN uses a special six sided die where three of the sides are 7s two sre 8s and the last ones a 9 to review games.

So gaming companies and publishers are their own worst enemy. Ubisoft sprang to mind before you even mentioned them.

I know right?! I had no idea that's where that came from. When I was researching for this video I was like "wait...what??"
anyone with an IQ above 100 figured this out years ago.
no one listens to game journalists anymore not even normies like me
Totally off topic, but just wanted to say you have the best hair on RUclips!
Haha, thanks!
Someone get this on Every frame a Pause and Asmongold!
That would be a dream come true!
You are way too inexperienced to give a cohesive, deep and meaningful look into this topic. Go to school dude.
