  • In this iPhone microphne comparison video, I test the Zoom iQ7 against the SmartMic Di Mini and iPhone’s built-in mic. I test close up, short distance and across the room with both voice and acoustic guitar.
I also discuss how the iQ7 and SmartMic work with the iPhone. I also discuss included accessories and possible additions.

Thank you for your video. For the longest I felt I couldn’t use my zoom mic with these savvy cases because my zoom lense wouldn’t plug in. Your video showed me there’s a bumper that can be removed lol who knew. I’m going to order your extender just in case, thank you for your informative video

I use the smart mic 🎙️ for my iPhone 6 because it has a headphone jack it works really good thinking of about using it more often with the microphone great video subscribed

The iPhone mic does a good job compressing the audio it seems which can sound pleasant for voice or guitar up close. Once you back d off the iq7 sounds much better.
Odd about the RFi Interference. I wonder if it was a light on a dimmer in your room? I wonder if it did it without the lightning connector extender in circuit?

Thanks for watching. The noise was worse plugged directly in without the extender, but much improved with airplane mode. Same in both rooms. Ultimately, Sweetwater accepted my return of the iQ7. I am trying out a different mic. But yes, I agree that the iPhone mic really is good for close up. 😊

They all sounded equally terrible. These microphones that you plug into the iPhone do not improve dramatically what the iPhone mic does. With that being said the iPhone mic is not voice over quality. It’s ok for live shots and short messages but otherwise you need professional equipment to get professional sound. The IQ7 is overpriced. The mini mic does not sound any better than the iPhone. Mic and actually sounds worse at a farther distance.

After this video, I switched to the Shure MV 88+. It does the job for short videos as it cuts a lot of the noise the iPhone mic pics up and has an app to set gain and field.
However, I agree that better mics and cameras make a more professional presentation. Cheers! 😊
