- Take your GarageBand recording to the next level with this: the Zoom iQ6. You can now record in stereo, or use either of the mics for a mono signal as you'd get with the internal mic.
Take a look at the Acusonic Recording Process, used extensively in the Quincy Jones productions of the 1980s (Thriller, Bad, etc.), developed by Bruce Swedien, engineer of recording and mixing of these classic albums.

Sound quality is excellent!! Thanks for sharing!
Great recommendation Dan. Been considering this one for mobile and field recordings so might be added to my Christmas wish list.
👍🏼♥️🎵
Groovy little mic. Thanks for sharing. I say that all the time 'if only I had worked out my backing vocals...." :-)
This was concise and great. Thank you!
I have the IQ7 mid/side mic that I use with Garageband iOS - works/sounds great. I can further widen the soundfield captured by the mic by using the Spatializer or Widener apps 😎
They’re great bits of kit!
Is that the only difference? I’m trying to decide between the 6 or 7
Looks cool...
Thanks for the video! Great presentation and very informative. I was wondering, if I’m doing basic multi track recording on GarageBand on my iPhone, can I hear my first recorded track through the microphone’s headphone jack while I’m recording another track on top of it? I wasn’t sure if the headphone jack was just for direct monitoring or not. Thanks!
Hi! Did you find out the answer for this?
No one ever finds answers.
Thanks for the video! Question: does the zoom app run in the background while you record the video through the iPhone? Is there any editing that needs to be done in terms of syncing the audio with your video after you’re done recording? Thanks in advance!
Hi there! No, I’m afraid it doesn’t offer a “run in background” feature. That’s a bit of a pain. Perhaps it works on a better phone...
Got it. thanks for the response man
Wow! How have i missed this wonderful tip!? Thanks Dan! Do you happen to know if a macbook pro can record stereo through the 3.5mm input (headphone jack) ?
It’s a great mic, but I do know you can’t record stereo with a headphone Jack: it’s only one way stereo audio, but I think the extra contact on a TRRS might allow mono in.
Hey. Thanks for the thorough review. I have a couple of questions. 1. Does this mic seem to pick up too much noise? It sure sounds like it picks up as much noise if not more than an iphone’s mic. 2. It didn’t really sound like there was any stereo surround going on when you replayed the around the room recording, any idea what happened there? Thanks again.
The level control in the mic itself does make a massive difference to the noise floor but it’s way better than the phone mic in any case. With regard to stereo, I guess I should have done a better sweep!
Can you use Zoom's headphone jack to hear the already recorded tracks in garage band while recording a new track?
Can I record video with the iq6 recorder on it? Is their a way or app that I can make a video with the Mic attached?
Yes, just plug the mic into your IOS device just as if you were going to make a video of something. It works instantly. Just make sure the mic shows green lights.
