UPDATE: Hi all! Wanted to add some clarifying info to the issues I encountered when using the mic: 1. Shure does in fact make a longer 3ft/1m Mini USB-Lightning cable. You can find it here, although at time of writing (Sep 19, 2020) it is backordered: www.shure.com/en-US/products/accessories/amv-ltg 2. The Shure cables are MFi certified-an expensive Apple license-which means they’re guaranteed to work with iOS devices. Most likely, my other cable is not certified, which resulted in the error message. Not surprised to learn that Shure did it right ;) 3. Shure also pointed out that you can use an adaptor like this Belkin to charge your device while using the MV88: www.apple.com/shop/product/HKKP2ZM/A/belkin-lightning-audio-charge-rockstar 4. For mid/side recording: in the video I recorded into Cubasis 3 on my iPad, but I forgot that it’s a universal app, so you can record directly into that on your iPhone too! apps.apple.com/us/app/cubasis-3/id1207839273 5. The iPad Pro incompatibility is to do with how apple chose to implement audio output via USB-C. For an in-depth look check out this article: www.imore.com/usb-c-audio-and-ipad-pro-everything-you-need-know Edit Dec 2023: one commenter has theirs working with an iPhone 15 Pro, so it seems the USB-C issues might have been resolved. UPDATE Apr 2024: Couple of folks have mentioned (and I can confirm) that there are no issues using it with the USB-C ports on the newer iOS devices! In any case, I just wanted to make it clear that these are not product shortcomings; just things you need to be aware of. Like knowing that a Ferrari needs oil changes, and you should maybe drive really slowly if you intend to go off-roading with it ;) Should’ve said it that way!
Thank you for clarifying the iPad Pro/USB-C issue! I just last night read their annotation and was about to comment here. In a nutshell this means it basically works with the iPad Pro.
@@ThomasGeist I'm wondering if they've by now fixed the issue so you can adjust the mic via the software on iPad? And if not, is it as simple as plugging it into iPhone, making adjustments, then unplugging and plugging straight into iPad and the mic will just remember its last settings?
I have been looking for hours for a serious video about this kit... thank you. This isn't just amazing for vlogging, it's a fantastic mic for mobile music production! I can't wait to sample with this thing!
Thanks for checking it out! Yeah, I'm looking forward to using the mic in stereo to record a guitar cab for some of my upcoming vids. Should be pretty great!
Thank you! Thank you! I just purchased the kit on the recommendation of a subject matter expert and wanted to familiarize myself with its capabilities. Your video surpassed my expectations! Wish I had seen it months ago.
Man, you knocked it out of the park for your first video! That was so good I figured you’ve been doing this for years, I subscribed and I’m looking forward to more content! By the way your guitar playing was exceptional. I play, and I know how difficult it is … That was great!
Thank you! I’ve done product presentations in the past, and I have a fair amount of experience with recording so I knew what I wanted it to turn out like, and I just had to learn how to make that a reality. Glad you found it useful!
This is a very well done review. I am looking for an easy setup mic to be used with iPhone and this video helps a lot. Especially because I'm planning on using it to record acoustic guitar as well. You play very well too 👏
Thanks for doing my homework! Very thorough review and I appreciate the lessons learned. Very cool video... held my attention through the whole thing. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for the great video. I would love to see a more in-depth tutorial on how you did that audio editing, recommended software for that, etc. I also intend to use it for acoustic instrument recording purposes.
Your first video, you say? Then I have some good news. I’ve been considering this or similar mics, watched a bunch of reviews of this and similar mics, went and pestered the sound guy at my local superstore (the incomparable Yodabashi Camera in Tokyo) and your review helped me make up my mind. It was the demonstration of the stereo guitar recording that sealed the deal; I’m also a guitarist, thank you very much! Nice playing too, by the way!
Arigato gozaimas!! You’re my 200th subscriber. Thanks so much for dropping me a line, glad I was able to help. I’m going to be making more guitar-related videos soon, so stay tuned!
Thanks for that review. I’m looking at this for our cigar review channel, we’re often out and haven’t brought our gear. This sounds like a great option. Looking forward to more reviews.
Thanks for watching! Just smoked my third cigar ever last night 🤣 Yeah, this is a great solution for lightweight, on-the-go production. Have used it several times for acoustic guitar recording and been really happy with the results. Cheers!
Thanks so much for this excellent video. I was about to purchase a Shure SV7 for my daily show - but now I'm not so sure (Shure)! On faith I've subscribed to your channel. Now let's see what else you have for me... Cheers from North of Cochrane, Ontario, Canada.... almost to Moose Factory, Ontario, Canada.
Ta-thanks for the kind words. I basically tried to thoroughly document all the questions I myself had 🤣 In other words, you’re watching me learn how to use it and work out what it can do!! All the best!
A quick Hello from FRANCE, in my hometown of Strasbourg. This is your first video??? wow!! I can't imagine you haven't some strong experience in video editing, ... built up over years of practice. This is a great video. It is covering more, on this mic, than what I found so far in all other videos talking about it. I own this mic as well and have been using it in a variety of situations. Especially the mid side configuration when I record acoustic guitar. It is much less complicated and less expensive than using the 2 usual mics (bidirectional and directional). So even if you loose in workflow because you can't use a long cable directly into your daw, I found it is still a winner as it is so easy to just turn on your mic, put it on chair on its tripod, right in front of you, play the guitar and record on your phone. Then just send the file directly to your Dropbox and into your daw. You save time upfront, at the right moment, when you are inspired and want to play and record on the go, wherever you are as long as you have the mic and the guitar with you. Anyway, the quality of the stereo rendering is awesome, and you made the demonstration that this little mic can do it. I wished I had known this mic before I thought I needed to buy my 2 other mics-and-stands-and-xlr-cables in order to do decent stereo recording of my guitar. In the end, and because of the versatility of this microphone, I found that the Shure MV88+ is one of the best solution for the buck, and for whoever needs to limit his budget to only one mic, this one is the way to go in my opinion. btw, I love when you raise your local flag... not everyone knows it is Chicago's. I use to live there and I miss the Windy City. Thumbs up and a good luck to you and your channel.
Merci bien, monsieur!! This was indeed my first ever video project, after learning as much as I could online first. Mais je suis aussi musicien, so many of the concepts were familiar, and it was more of a translation question ;) Totally agree that this makes a fantastic first mic, especially if you’re doing everything on mobile devices. And yes, I do love Chicago! I used to live in Europe... Salut!
Excellent job! YOu are going places with this channel if you keep your content at this level of quality, and by content I do not mean video/audio, as important as they are - the substantive content. Cheers!

@@SamVarma Just purchased the MV88+ Video Kit after trying out the software (both audio and video) on my iPhone 11 with - a non Shure mic! Yup, a Deity D3 Pro. Don't know if you will see this comment or not, but to my knowledge Manfrotto is kinda like the Shure of tripods, really good quality. Thanks for the video!
I RARELY comment on a video (like a few a year, maybe) but wanted to say "well done". I was looking at another approach (Tascam field recorder or similar) and the convenience and decent quality of this unit and its apps, has me thinking differently now. Thanks for such a good review!
Hey, thank you so much. Huge compliment-I’m the same way. Really appreciate the feedback. Thanks for watching! And don’t forget the Deep Dive video I did about the app, if you haven’t already ;)
@@mablungone2059 Nice! Maybe post Rona ;). I did it with my iPhone and iPad. Filmic Pro to shoot and LumaFusion to edit. Helps that I’m a musician-principles are very similar to recording audio. Lots of RUclips how-to videos, and an idea of how I wanted it to look. Basically I just did what I could with the gear I had! Started with “how to get cinematic video with an iPhone” and “10 mistakes new RUclips’s make” videos, and tried to answer every question I had before setting off. Don’t know if that helps 🤷🏻♂️
This was really great i just got the MV88 microphone used an adapter plugged it into my iPad Pro did not work. Just about to spend more and get the Kit thinking it would work. good job I watched this. I hope they do an update for iPad Pro
Thanks for watching! Yeah this is not good. I just had to upgrade to the new iPad Air, which has a USB-C connector, and the MV88+ does work, but the only thing you can adjust in the app is the gain and the sample rate. You cannot adjust EQ, compressor, limiter, or the polar patterns. You may be able to use it with a USB-C hub (which I’ll be testing next week), but if the iPhone goes USB-C next year this product will be dead to me. Which I’m not very happy about. I also learned on Twitter that the new MV7 USB mic doesn’t work at all with the iPad Pro. This has the potential to be a big headache for Shure...
Interesting review - I'm looking to do field recordings - I don't like large bulky equipment and I still have an iPhone 6+ which is still adequate - this looks like the ideal mic for that.
Hi Sam! Loved your video! I can't believe it was your first one. I hope you keep it up! I am just setting up a cooking channel and it is always encouraging to see how new channels can bring value to everyone! I am using this mic for the voiceovers in my videos and have done a few tests. Did you end up preferring stereo or mono cardioid for voiceovers? Cheers!
Hi Patricio!! Thanks so much for checking it out. I think I prefer the stereo just because it feels a little more natural to listen to, especially in headphones. But I think that’s a taste question, and I may mix it up depending on what feels right in different situations. All the best!
Great video!! Thinking of using it for drumming and singing with backing music , also was some EXTREME guitar playing you did 🙌🙌🙌🙌 thank you , again for answering alot questions too
Thanks, nice acrostics btw, and very thorough review. I do find their monfroto Tripod to be inferior to my photography tripods, have a manfroto pro, so will probably use that.
Thank you, and thanks for watching! The tripod is definitely no substitute for the real thing, but for someone like me, who doesn’t have any real photography equipment, it was great to get a stand that lets me hold my phone and the microphone for selfie video, as well as having something to put the microphone on on my desktop when I’m recording voiceover! It’s also been great just to hold and position my phone when I record guitar videos. So definitely not wasted from my point of you! 🙏🏼❤️
Well I am making yoga videos and some will be outside, so it will work great for me, also ordered a windsock. Played with it this afternoon and tomorrow I start in earnest. Again, thank you for a fantastic RUclips review.

That Belkin adapter creates pops in the audio. And without it, my phone will drain nearly 100% of its battery within an hour.
Josh Grumiaux Which phone, and how old is it? 1hr of use seems... not good. And noted on the Belkin adapter!

Thank you so much for viewing!
I think that’s accurate. For the price this is a great general-purpose, mobile-first solution. Cheers!
Better review then manufacturer for layman who is looking for good product that one can use more often without being a pro.
Thank you! I’m glad you felt that way-I’m definitely trying to explain for non-professionals who are curious. Thanks for watching!
Great content! Please shoot a lesson on that first bit of music! :)
Thanks for promotion and video this helping to understand about iPhone mics what kind choose for home and outdoor videos
Thanks for watching!
Nice video dude
Thanks man!!
Very impormative
Great video!! Thinking of using it for drumming and singing with backing music , also was some EXTREME guitar playing you did 🙌🙌🙌🙌 thank you , again for answering alot questions too
You’re welcome!! Thanks for watching and glad it was helpful. Just be aware that since it’s a condenser mic it picks up everything 😜
@@ellenhorovitz3517 You’re very kind! I’m glad the review was helpful :) Did you buy the Shure dead cat for the mic?
Your FIRST RUclips?!? Bruh: 😎💪😍💪😎
This sounds great. Any latency issues on a Ableton? Your video was really helpful.
