I just bought this microphone. I run a youtube channel about elevators and audio is VERY important. This is the best sounding audio I have EVER heard. It beats my 1600$ camcorder.
Think Media is such a positive channel and never fail to make me feel great! even when I have plenty of things in my life happening, I still watch it to mainly feel good and remember about my wish to start a light RUclips channel just for fun, beside my work and studies. This is definitely one of the most genuine and sincere youtube creators.
I’ve used Shure in the recording studio. The sm57 is pretty much on every recording the last 20 or so years. They know their stuff. The audio sample in the video did nothing to tarnish their reputation. The stock iPhone mic sounded awful so the Shure is a massive improvement. I really normally use a DSLR for video but this looks like a great back up solution when I don’t have my full kit with me or if I need to have something with a smaller profile. I would also point out to people that the manfrotto adapter included in this kit can be used with basically every DSLR/DV steadycam kit on the market. HUGE bonus feature for me.
That equipment is so nice, I really wanna get this set up. It would make our content sounds so smooth. Thanks for all the info on all the latest gear Sean! Appreciate everything you do on this channel for the RUclips community 💯💯💯🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
That's IT! Getting this right now! My friend and I do Travel Videos and EVERYTHING IS SHOT ON MY PHONE! This would be perfect for Vlog Audio (which we do) and also Field Audio as mentioned in the video. Thank You, Sean for this great review!
Forgot to mention the mount! It has perfect distance for capturing everything around me while vlogging, and can set my phone on a surface without having to worry about balancing my phone up on a rock or something.
Wow the only thing it needs now is the camera app that records video from both(front/back) cameras together in a split screen style. Perfect setup for one on one mobile video podcasting.
Thanks for the review. I was thinking of buying this kit but instead decided to go with the budget version - in my case this meant that I bought the Manfrotto Pixi Plus Tripod and a Manfrotto Universal Smartphone Clamp (Pro Version) separately. I also bought the Røde VideoMicro microphone, which mean that all in all I paid around 100 dollars instead of 250 dollars for a rig that basically does the same thing.
I use a IPhone 7 Plus for my travel channel and a super old GoPro on my motorcycle helmet Last week your video on the mic that plugged directly into the lightning port was huge it will be my next piece of audio equipment
Sean after 330 videos I’ve been looking to upgrade my RODE Smart Lav+ as the windscreen is tearing. This seems like a good pick up. Let me ask you, I also have the RODE VideoMic Me (original non-L). Will the sound from this yield warm narration in your opinion when filming from approximately two feet away or should I look for another lav mic? I don’t use my Video MicMe often as that distance isn’t quite as warm compared to if I spoke directly into the VideoMic Me.
My phone is my main camera and what I am using to create content. I run a channel based around my Aquarium keeping hobby. Can’t thank you enough for the help you provide with these videos
I already have the original mv88 so I can’t justify getting this setup but I’m sure glad it exists. This is a much better setup! Also cool that it supports Android users, too. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Sean Yes I use my iPhone to shoot video, have only made one so far. I just joined Video Academy so I’m excited to dive into the training, I’ve watched 3 videos so far and am loving VA 2.0 it’s so good.
I use my phone for quick vlog-style segments in between my main videos, mostly in a controlled workshop environment where the phone audio is actually pretty good (iPhone 10s) but it’s great that companies like Shure are providing such versatile solutions for phone-based content creators; I’d be all over this if my phone was my main camera 👍
I have had the Shure MV88+ for two years. I have not been able to live stream on Facebook, I spoke to technicians and they initially told me yes it will work. But after multiple conversations with the technicians and it will not work. Thanks for sharing.
Must say, the audio quality is really good. Great product from Shure. And what I liked most about the product is that Shure has collaborated with Manfrotto. Hope more and more companies take a cue from this and bring more value to the end users.
Yes I’m using my iPhone to record videos of family and kids activities. I just bought the Shure microphone for my iPhone. There are terms in the app I don’t understand when trying to set it up to record.
I do a weekly live stream and looking for a directional mic that can pick up audio from 6-8 feet in front of the iPhone. Can this one do this? Can you recommend a good mic for this?
The l sound from that handheld sounds much better than the MV88... And I find it telling that you're recording the video with that one as opposed to the one you're Advertising 👀 #woops
Is this mic decent enough to pick up 2 guitars a bass and a drum set semi cleanly ?? Or would it sound too muffled & muddy ?? I’m looking for a cheap option to quickly record my bands jam sessions
It works pretty good with bass, piano and voice. Are you mixing it all through the same deck or separate amps? I think we used bass amp and the rest through a deck going through a PA. Sounded pretty good.
At the moment im doing tech reviews and alittle bit of gaming , unfortunately i have an old phone and lighting is a problem , but thanks to you guys i got the boya lav mic and its definitely an upgrade
Hey Sean, I just got this setup as it was on sale for $149 and I love it. I’ve seen a ton of your videos but didn’t realize you’d done this review until now so sorry for not using your link. I love your content, thanks for what you do ❤️
I'm actually a gaming RUclipsr but when vlogging I regularly use my phone because it has the same resolution as my Kodak camera and I can easily edit on Android and upload
My wife and I spend our time traveling. For the past two years I’ve only taken pictures. So I’m just getting into the video making; switching from travel pictures to videos. I made my first cheesy video just the other day. Lol 😂, Loads of fun. I really had no idea there was so much to learn. Looking forward to all my new challenges; and your input on many of these subjects have been wonderful. I use your reviews a great deal; yes I use a iPhone, Android, iPad, and my GoPro, thanks for your review.
Yes I use my Samsung to record everything. Sometimes I am recording slime making or reviews over a desktop surface. Other times I am recording my daughters doing slime play/sensory play or gymnastics or just being 6 & 8.
Is there any difference in the quality of sound between the MV88+ and the MV88? It's not clear to me that there are any real advantages except getting a stand etc. and being able to use with an Android. I love the tidy look of the MV88 and packs away into a small secure case. . No cables to worry about. I already have a stand. Thoughts?
I have a question. If you wanted to charge your phone while using this setup, while using let’s say a Lightning to USB adapter… how would you connect that black cable? Since the female Lightning port would be dedicated to charging? Any answer would be a huge help
looks like a great product. one question I'm a DJ I use my phone (note20 ultra) to record but some times the mic becomes saturated the bass or highs may sound so distorted, usually this happends when I'm close or infront of the speakers. what mic or system would you recomend If there a kit with a gimbal that you may recomend. thank you bro.
This product is spot on amazing! Great gear and at affordable price! Now that's a deal breaker for me!!! But I'll be honest here, the video quality isn't that bad!
This looks great! But I don't have budget for it yet. I use my Huawei P20 Pro for now. I had my tripod from my old DSLR and just bought a mount for $13 on Amazon. Just missing the mic for now!
I use my iphone to create large portions of my fishing and hiking videos. Before i got the new gopro i preferred using the iphone’s slow motion and time-lapse features. The downside is that i have dropped a few in deep water over the years 😬. Thanks for the gear review, im gonna take a look at this product
Thanks for very useful detail review. May I have a question? There are many kind of applications for gimbal instead of Shure MOTIV Audio & Video Applications (iOS & Android versions). Example, I have FreeFly Movi Cinema Robot, DJI Osmo mobile 1 & 2, Snoppa Atom, Zhiyun and so on…… / Question 1.: SHURE MV88+ is compatible with any kind of gimbal Audio & Video application for my Apple i-phone instead of Shure MOTIV Audio & Video Applications (iOS & Android versions)? / Question 2 : SHURE MV88+ can use with smartphone gimbal?
Definitely a great looking kit. I was using the Rode mic me for my iPhone 6, then upgraded to the iPhone X and now it doesn’t mount properly. Are there any little mounts you would reccomend?
Does anyone know how well this would work with a iPhone 11 Pro Max and a DJI Osmo Mobile 3? That’s a looooot of weight on the Osmo so I’m wondering if it would even be compatible
compared to the MV 88 which do you think is better? And can you hold the phone vertically (for IGTV/IG Live) using this mic? From what I see, it seems it can only be used landscape
Honestly I bought the neewer NW-700 and phantom power unit and it's a very good mic for 20 bucks but my good friend is who I would share this with he does youtube from his phone and he does interviews and such would be perfect for him
Can you get these components separately? This looks great for people starting out, but for someone who already has a tripod and grip, it would be nice to be able to just buy the mic.
What’s the distance with point and shooting a subject? Would this able to be a all in one and replace my rode mic? Would this be compatible with a DSLR camera as well with some kind of adapter. Side note...great content guys..love the channel

Going to save for thissss! 🔈📱 Just started my own RUclips channel and use my iPhone 6 and a cheap lavalier mic from Boya. Definitely love the quality it provides especially for beginners like me. 😍
Sucks that you can't record using your phone vertically for stories, tik toks, and Instagram. horizontal video isn't preferred on some apps, you would think we 4 set up styles vertical wasn't an option... could've easily been able to market as 5 if they thought of that
I think you are a bit far from the MV88 when you tested it. Proximity is a huge factor in your audio quality - at most 12in gap in my opinion esp for a noisy room like this (or arms-length if vlogging)
I have this kit but the mic will not work with Samsung s9 plus beware: note it works if you record normally but it does not work while streaming to FB or RUclips.
Cool mic, but 249 seems pricy.. I can get the same audio from my Blue Yeti, using the USB/Lightning pig tail.. for about 80 bucks. Granted not as portable... It would be cool if this was Gimbal mount friendly with the DJI Osmo 2. That would be a slick setup !!

Would this be good for fitness videos?
Is this good to use like for a church setting? It would capture the music and the pastor ministering.
