I've played their debut album a million times! So I heard this one a million times but this is the first time I see them play it live! Thanx for sharing! Go Cat!
Kick ass, rockin' song. This is one of my fave Cats' songs. Not traditional rockabilly, and they bring politics into their music which i'm never really a fan of, but DAMN!--- just a great pumping song!! Two thumbs up.
The song was first called "Boys having babies" and was played by Setzer in his previous band The bloodless Pharaohs which were kinda new-wave. He then changed the lyrics and harden it...
Well Setzer did in Bloodless Pharaoes, basically a punk band. His clothes does signal punk as well as rockabilly.. Anyway, the song is about the hostage situation at the Teheran Embassy where 48 hostages were taken captive, the song says 50 (not 15)..
Oh definitely. Roddy Radiation (who played lead guitar -- the rockabilly-ish harmony while Lynval Golding played the sharp, offbeat ska melody) is and was huge on rockabilly and even dreamed to join the Stray Cats at one point during one of The Specials' feudal episodes! Strummer had similiar influences (Eddie Cochran etc) and supported and played in rockabilly bands. The Clash's fashion style also mimics the original rock 'n roll Teddy boys (also known as greasers in US). "I Fought the Law"??
@Parsa9 Actually, the SAS did storm the Iranian Embassy in London to end that hostage crisis. I think you're thinking of the American Embassy in Iran. Technically, Jimmy Carter did try to storm it as well, but sandstorms forced the helicopters to abort the operation which was quite costly for him politically. Ultimately the release of the American hostages was negotiated behind the scenes in the notorious Arms for Hostages deal.
Hah. I agree. In the spectrum of Rockabilly->Punk->Ska during that time period (late 80s) it was Stray Cats->The Clash->The Specials each dipping into all three categories. Very cool.
All my life I'm plagued with people pigeon-holing the Cats with Kurt, Batz, meteors etc. they were and are so much different. This was the firsttime shit like this had been adventured. Brian and the boys were nothing short of genuii. (is that the plural of genius
@callmeic Lee Rocker rarely supports Setzer, unless they´re the complete Stray Cats trio. So if you saw Setzer alone or with the Nasvllians or BSO it's almost 100% certain that Lee didn't support him.
tempo 's running like a punkrock song. much faster than recorded version.B.Setzer really wild. ironical comment to USA-IRAN rivalry great performance thank u for post
@Ampex101 "Storm the Embassy" and possibly "Rumble in Brighton" might have have that 3-chord unpolished "punk" sound... but you dont rock a Gretsch guitar and a Slap King double bass and call it ANYTHING but Rockabilly. The Beastie Boys did a couple punk songs, there is no time that they have been referred as "punk" though.
You´re welcome :-) It´s a very rare performance. Stray Cats have only done this live a handful of times. And to be honest, this version isn´t exactly the Cats´ finest moment :-)
this is one of the coolest geo-political songs ever done, up there with anything the clash did. really well-educated lyrics about the fear a lot of people felt when it happened.
@RmonSP Rockandroll and even the blues were punk before that term exists. We just got a name now to refer the combination of some special characteristics. Genres are just for practical use, nobody should take them too serious.
The Russian troops should give us backup in Afghanistan since they started this conflict, Chinese troops could also appear too since they are dependent on Americans to buy their products.
The legendary Stray Cats no competition the whole package. Kings of rockabilly. Love u ❤

YEAAAHHHH, great song in a great time
Thanks for posting
wow. awesome to see it live.
Guys, face it. This is a punk-influenced rockabilly band doing a rockabilly-influenced punk song. I mean, Joe Strummer could have written this!
Right On for Stray Cats.
best song of Stray Cats
Well Setzer did in Bloodless Pharaoes, basically a punk band. His clothes does signal punk as well as rockabilly..

I was sooo in love with Brian!! My fave ever song of theirs, many thanks for posting : )
oh and awesome guitar sound too
Fantastic. I can't believe someone had this.
So glad the Stray cats done so many Cochran songs and of course the rest of their music too, awsome!
@Ampex101
I do not deny this is a punk song, however, most of the Stray Cats' songs are simply Rockabilly.
Absolutely Right....this is punk from the Cats...what a fucking great tune, fucking big Stray Cats...FIVE STARS!!! for this tune and video

It´s not from "Rockblast", but "Rockpalast". A German TV show.
Oh definitely. Roddy Radiation (who played lead guitar -- the rockabilly-ish harmony while Lynval Golding played the sharp, offbeat ska melody) is and was huge on rockabilly and even dreamed to join the Stray Cats at one point during one of The Specials' feudal episodes!

je suis un fan des stray cats en en particulier de cette chanson

man i have that cd and its great. in that version its called boys are having babies.
"Storm the iranian embassy..." it was kind of prophetic...
All my life I'm plagued with people pigeon-holing the Cats with Kurt, Batz, meteors etc. they were and are so much different. This was the firsttime shit like this had been adventured. Brian and the boys were nothing short of genuii. (is that the plural of genius
Will Some one please post the original version of this song by Brians earlier band NY's,"Bloodless Pharoahs".
Any BP's ...please .
Correct Bloodless Pharaohs song. Only included on the album when Dave Edmund's asked for something different to add texture to the album.

my favorite song if i have to choose one

MUITO LOUCO ESSE VIDEO...
this is the most intenses stray cats i have ever seen!! i mean.... i knew that they were more of a punk band to start, but....wow.
I found it funny that they did not delete a security guard throwing someone off the stage
Yeah this is their most Psychobilliest song i must say, but one hell of a good one!
Rock on forever Cats!
this is one of the coolest geo-political songs ever done, up there with anything the clash did. really well-educated lyrics about the fear a lot of people felt when it happened.
I LOVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Never heard three persons can make so much voice, with quality...OK, there is Dead Kennedys too.
But the most important question has to be..... Does Claude Nob?
LOL
Mikey xx
Los tiempos de la guerra fría tuvieron que ser escalofriantes. Hoy por hoy, esta letra suena algo dura, pero en fin, es un temazo.
postpunk, new wave ??? what the hell are you people talking about its only rocknroll and i like it
class
god i wonder if thats the same bassman hes had in every live performance ive seen of him, thatd be tight
wow, great intro, great riff !
it is actually the same music and melody as a bloodless pharoahs song called "boys having babies"...just new lyrics.
There came several guys surfing the rockabilly-banana wave. But this ain't Robert Gordon. Besides, punks don't storm embassies, they ROCK THE CASBAH!
No Rockpalast is a popular stage for rock and other music.
It;s almost 30 years later.... it's too bad they didn't take Brian's advice. :)
Oh, and I agree, this is punk from the 'Cats.
The Clash and the Specials "dipped" into Rockabilly? You gotta explain that. ;)
Why does it have to have a lable? words just limit everything
this is better that album cover because this is true rock punk
@RmonSP Rockandroll and even the blues were punk before that term exists. We just got a name now to refer the combination of some special characteristics. Genres are just for practical use, nobody should take them too serious.
i´ve never seen him swetting and screaming like that
Sexy as f.c.k.
The Stray Cats did punk pretty well
I have a pet cat inhouse and one or two outside cats that I have a cat house and provide liquids and food daily
wow... really untoped
So sollten wir es machen!
Way better than 'Boys Having Babies' :3
@CaptainHurricane I disagree, it's postpunk or new wave.
psychobilly has been played in the UK since 1979, no such thing as Punkabilly as it is just modern Psycho.
a bit of OI as well... OIOIOI
What does Terrorism got to do with The Stray Cats I wonder?
this is POST PUNK!
That burning question.... Does Claude Nob? - lol
what about Brand New Cadillac?
Punkabilly? Anyone?
they looks pretty drunk, i guess its just creativity flowing eh.
The Russian troops should give us backup in Afghanistan since they started this conflict, Chinese troops could also appear too since they are dependent on Americans to buy their products.
What overdrive pedal is using?
So stupid - and yet so true
anyway, it's great. Call it Mickey Mouse, if you want.
I have to go and look for my Stray Cats tapes=)
Nostalgic. I don't like this live stuff so much...
well thats not rockabilly but punk\metal style
but its good anyway
I agree, this is punk rock, not rockabilly. Versatile band eh.
I am the strangest anti war protester protester that you will ever see in your life
like a punk
@JeverbeiStuhlmacher The USA shooting at you and me (or here and there).
