The harmony makes me feel like I'm floating through space and just experiencing the sounds. This must be what its like to hear music for the first time, with pitches interacting in a way that I have never experienced before. Its just seriously incredible.
Awesome. Sounds amazing. I was going to point out specific places where I liked what you did, but there are a lot of them. The crazy buzzy sounds abound. Microtonalists are all numerologists, so I have to point out that you posted your latest 31 EDO work when you had 387 subscribers -- and to a round cent, of course, that's the major third approximation in 31.
@@laurenpinschannels Musical intervals can be described in terms of 'cents'. An octave is 1200 cents, and each standard half-step is at a 100-cent boundary: If C is 0 cents, C# is 100 cents, D is 200 cents, Eb is 300 cents, E is 400 cents, and so on. But "pure" intervals (which I can describe if you like) fall between these nice 100-cent boundaries -- our current tuning system is an approximation of "pure" intervals, a really good compromise with some great properties, but not "pure". So a perfect fourth (C-F in music notation, 500 cents in standard tuning) is 498 cents if it's "pure"; a "pure" major third is 386 cents rather than the 400 cents that we usually hear in standard tuning's C-E interval. Microtonality tends to turn people into number nerds. :)
I discovered your channel recently through your 31-TET stride piano... really hope more people find out about you soon! Love it love it love it love it LOVE IT!
I'm here from George Collier's channel after having discovered your Sweet Loraine arrangement in 31-TET. Just wanted to say you're a huge inspiration to me and that although I'm a long way away from even touching on microtonality, colorful arrangements such as this one make me motivated to keep on practicing.
Wow! thank you! I am very excieted to see where this will lead.. the whole combination, of you, your ideas and ears, this kind of music, and this instrument, the tuning, the layout..
This music is just so incredible, I've not really explored microtonality much before and it's amazing to see it in action and so masterfully executed. I can't wait to see where you go next.
Not sure if it's the pleasantly sounding approach, or I'm just getting more used to these consonances, but I'm digging this style of jazz more and more :)
I listen to this all the time still, it's so good. please do something in this style, but backed by a drummer and fretless bass. that would be pretty euphoric honestly
Bravo! Compliments to the musician for his presentation, song selection, and mastering this 31 EDO system. I originally found his videos because I was searching for 31-EDO music, his choice to use it really pulls out beautiful intervals from the instrument
Woah! Fantastic playing, arrangement, voicings, blending of all sorts of ideas! So great to see you finally unleashed on this instrument. Also quite astounding how much of your piano technique seems to carry over, as much of the time I was having trouble using my thumbs as I usually do. You have hands quite a bit larger than me, with all those LH major tenths and even elevenths! I have been practicing but could only get reliable minor and major tenths in 22EDO, where they're a little bit closer! Is this running through Pianoteq? In which case is this one of the MKIs? Love your work.
Hey how do you feel about people using samples of your work or doing collabs with them? I am an absolute nobody with way too much music theory knowledge and a love for EDM, could I maybe chop and screw a few clips of you playing? I've been loving your work on the Lumatone; you're the first microtonal pianist whose style I consistently enjoy
Subbed when i got the email that featured you in it from lumatone themselves! This is the type of use case vid i was waiting to see before i make a purchase of it. It more realistically shows a general use case for it. how long would you say it took you to get to this point of useability? I am fairly new to microtonal instruments in general but have some experience in classical ivory.
@@MikeBattagliaMusic Well I can't say no to a challenge. Also the size of it since I prefer to save space lol. Will be interesting to see how well this plays with Reason since digital production wise, its the only program I've stuck with for years. Though that brings me to another question, do you have any recommendations for DAWs to connect the lumatone to?
I have a 31edo bass guitar. I find that I often get stuck learning scales and don't play much music. How did you learn to play in 31 and incorporate spice?
Hey just discovered your work yesterday. I wanted to see if there was a way to commission you to perform a piece but transform it into alternate tuning. What’s your contact?
yes - most equal temperaments can use a diatonic scale, so that gets incorporated into your muscle memory. Some tunings have other issues, but this principle is quite unifying across systems.
The future of music right here folks, or at least one of the many futures of music. No going back to the old way. Charge ahead Mike.
Funny thing's that this music existed.. then we simplified it.
@@rlrihards948in a quarter-comma-meantone sense, yeah, but extended quarter-comma-meantone as in 7-, 11-, and 13-limit stuff, not so much
The future of music is a busy signal set to a drum beat. Look around you. You know I am right.

for real
i feel like a child learning piano for the very first time. Truly groundbreaking stuff.
YES. Beautifully put. It really is like hearing music for the first time.

A month later Mike's at 498 subscribers - a JI perfect fourth. May it grow to an octave and beyond!
