I got a new SSD for my laptop, I used Rufus to download the installation files onto my USB. All was going well until it got to 85% install then it rebooted and started the whole installation again. It rebooted again but I removed the USB and the installation then went onto finish completely so I now have a fresh Windows 11 24H2 running very fast on my 12 year + old work laptop with all my backed up apps and files added. Really thanks for all your efforts keeping us oldie hardware users updated.
That was a very clear explanation on how to upgrade my old machines to Win 11; I just don't like that OS, which is the problem I'm struggling with. I reckon I'll stay on 10, which at least I know how to use, until I find out how much M$ will charge for extended maintenance. If it's too much, I guess I'll have a look at some other OS's. Over the past couple of decades I've tried Linux distros but always ended up coming back to Windows, the OS I know even though I don't like it much, because I can get everything to work; with Linux, it's always an adventure, and success isn't guaranteed.

There are 2 main issues with 24H2 if you run sfc/scannow it will find errors & fix them. If you run sfc again it will still find errors & fix them. There is a error in Windows Update Cleanup saying 8.63GB as it will not delete it when you run the Disk Cleanup Tool. If you run it again it will show up again. Whether you forced an upgrade or a normal upgrade its a known issue & no fix for this yet. -Cheers

Yeah Rufus works great. You just need version 4.6 which has all the newest workarounds to upgrade to 24H2. The developer added a new code to the program aka "wrapper".
I'm not using the command prompt to make the drive, only to clean it up, which might be required if you are using Rufus as well unfortunately. But both methods work well.

To prevent deleting the wrong disk/partitions you can do this way: Shift + F10 to open CMD diskpart lis dis look at the capacity of all the disks sel dis (number) clean exit exit f5 to refresh the list of the disks then select the disk where it says unallocated space and click install/next
There is no option to upgrade with a Core 2 Duo as it is missing that specific instruction in SSE4.2. Unfortunately I'm pretty sure that will not be possible in the future as well as this is a real hardware requirement. It would involve changes in the source code to not use that instruction or some kind of emulation. I would not count on bypassing this so I think you will need to stay on 23H2 if you have an CPU that is >15 years old.
@@jensdbe I think some people wanna try 24h2on an ancient cpu just for learning and experimental purposes.. of course actually they have better pc at home lol btw i am one of them.. I have tried 23h2 on core2duo (ofcourse with ssd) and performance is not bad at all.. boot up time also still acceptable..
I have same specs but after install display driver and graphic driver i cant adjust brightness , is it cause this cpu not offically support window 11 . I saw that i5 4570 only support graphic driver for window 10 The brightness slider can be adjusted but it will do nothing to my screen Backed to window 10 22H2 and it worked normally Except that everything work perfectly but I need to work not with 100% brightness so I changed my decision

Use Rufus version 4.6 since it has the latest fixes. It has a setting on there to select MBR (Legacy) boot, then either clean install or mount and run the setup.exe within the ISO folder after you add it to the Rufus installer.

Just tested this with a freshly download ISO file using the Media Creation Tool and everything is still working as in the video. Make sure that you create the registry keys in the correct location.

Rufus work fine for win 11 instalation ,work for me on my thinkpad T14 AND Optiplex 790 but great tutorial
3rd party software is not safe bro, you don't even realize if they injected your software with malicious code. unless you don't need privacy at all.

I did this to boot up my pc to update the bios so it could run Windows 11. Now installed, can I change so the tpm and secure boot are back to normal ?

Your laptopy is supported you need enable tpm 2.0 in uefi

That can indeed save you some time and makes it easy. There should be an option to clean a full drive in that GUI ideally :)

Alternatively, you can simply install Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC without needing to meet those requirements.

Microsoft had added something to block it. You have to use Rufus 4.6 now, which has the updated wrapper (workarounds) to upgrade to 24H2.
