@@mikcnmvedmsfonoteka - True but it's not always practical having two devices entangled with a cord when using the belt clip on a device that's designed to be small and discrete, so you can hide it away on the person wearing it. But yes, it's a very nice option to have.

But for something small and portable like this I wouldn't want to deal with anything external other than the lav mic. If the alkaline batteries last about 10 hours I think this will be great.
It's nice that a company is actually THINKING about the products they are making. The floating WAV file sounds like a game changer. It will lessen the headaches for all of us.
Can't wait for every recorder to be 32-bit floating point capable! I'm currently using an H5 + XYH-6 capsule and I'd love to see an H5n (or Pro) with F-series preamps and all the bells and whistles. Also, a stereo capsule with 1" diaphragm mics would be nice, for capturing quiet ambience and better vocals.
That’s actually pretty cool - using the headroom of 32 bit for the auto-levelling. You can talk all day about analogue vs digital sound, but this is something you can only do (easily and cheaply) with the latter. Would be good if all audio recorders had this feature.
I really like the 32 bit float on the Zoom F2. It can perfectly handle high SPL and dynamic sound from engines. With minor touch in post processing, the audio can be synced to the video and it does the job very well. The only cons is quality of the lav mic. I use deity w lav pro to improve the clarity.
I like Zoom product more and more each time. I hope I will see the definitive disappearance of gain knob in future pro audio product (I currently own a h6 an a L-20).
@Northern Dirt Um.. why? F2 has 2 channels (stereo line in) so the same as H2n has. There is absolutely no reason to think it'll never happen. Especially with the H2n being so old and not refreshed for so long. I really hope to see it soon.
@Northern Dirt I use overdubbing all the time and it's my main use case. For this reason I had to buy the H1n although it unfortunately doesn't have MS capsules which I always used on the H2n. The F1 also does not have overdubbing. I'd also love to have more granular gain settings (than F1) or the 32bit option (like F2). I love the MS/XY and 4/8CH recording that is not existent on F1. The H2n is the only recorder with an old body that I know could be made smaller, USB-C would be a great addition and I wouldn't mind getting at least 24 bit audio recording in an audio interface setting as well.
@Northern Dirt F2 is Stereo. Check the official Zoom website and specs written there. If H2n Pro would have double of this setting, MS capsules, overdubbing and at least a little bit smaller body than the existent one, I would pay for it as much as H6 costs...
Since it has a stereo plug and provides plug-in power, I wish it could record stereo files. This would enable binaural microphones to be used with this recorder. That would be the ultimate location recording setup.
Just to make sure, this capable of recording the left and right channel of a true stereo mic at 32-bit? I think the Tentacle Track E can only do mono, so that's a big benefit if true. What timecode devices work with this that can output timecode into a camera's mic port? I'm trying to figure out how to sync this with my action cameras and normal cameras that don't have timecode features.

great review, I have been watching a lot of reviews on this but can't seem to find the answer to see if it would work in my case needs. Right now I use a two wireless lav system (Saramonic) and the receiver goes into a Zoom H4N to record the audio. it works ok but it is big and I have a lot of settings to deal with. I usually have one camera guy or just me to do everything. Run and gun style. Will this work to record the audio from the wireless mics? right now I do get each mic on its own side, one to right and one to left channels. this recorder would be smaller and less to have to worry about. Thanks if you or if anyone else knows?
This is like the Tascam 10L, but some of the things I don't like about the Tascam seems like you've solved on this one. I like the record button and then just flick down to hold. I also like no setting for me to try and figure out and it's about the same size I love it being small. I do weddings and have been wanting to use more of these for multiple speeches and these being so small and light weight I could actually use on bridesmaid, and maid of honor without worrying about dresses
have you used them and how have they been doing for you? for me the only negative about it is the fact that you cannot monitor the audio to check if the mic is still attached correctly to the talent so you really have to pray that everything holds on especially at a wedding where you can't just come over to the couple to check xD otherwise it is literally perfect

I’m curious how this will stand up against the tascam dr10. I purchased the tascam after watching a load of reviews and have to say I have never been impressed with the noise out of the box. Sure you can fix in post but sometimes it’s nice to just be able to import and use. When’s this hitting the UK?

The only thing I'm annoyed about is that I have to buy the sd card separately which means even though I just got this, I can't use it until I go shopping again.
Is the low cut filter in the digital domain or analogue? If in the digital domain then I wonder at the point - as I can always filter in post production. It's just throwing away data that the ADC had to capture anyway. If in the analogue domain then it protects the ADC and its input circuitry so is useful.
Honestly, I have had a H6 for years now but the form factor for this is really interesting to me. If it had two inputs that were XLR I'd buy this in an instant and carry it with me everywhere. But, this seems to be aimed at bloggers it seems more than field recorders... maybe one day!
Anyone that has a Zoom F2, install firmware update 1.20 (released Feb 2022) from the Zoom site. It resolves the issue where the unit sometimes fails to record a file despite being in record mode; and the issue when recording the recording will not stop (the file then also fails to record).
Can I connect to the Bluetooth to a receiver and have the receiver plugged into my camera? I use MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 2021 will my files be usable? The NLE companies need to get this going. Great product!

Usually XLR-condenser-mics need 48 V phantom power. You would need an adaptor that also delivers that. The 3,5 mm jacks usually provide only 5 V plug-in-power (PIP). I’m sure it can handle all mics that have the screw-on-trs-plug.
Correct me if I'm wrong... It looks like the F2 only has 2.5v plug-n-play power so lavs mics needing more voltage aren't going to work or work well on this unit. Am I correct? If so, please address that in a gen 2 version.

Monitoring is typically done to check for noise or distortion. Since they claim to have eliminated both, monitoring has no purpose anymore. ...although I'm somewhat sceptical, too.
The Blackmagic Pocket 4K has a timecode input built into its audio jack. What do you need to do to sync this with the Blackmagic? Just connect a male to male 3.5mm audio cable?

No distortion audio controls seams a great option, but a lack of direct Bluetooth receiver (just like in Rode) on camera seems a backward approach just like design of 5l petrol engine in 2020 for commercial sale.

This is a perfect compact solution for fast talking head stuff when you want to be quick but have good audio for any camera

Ok what sort of Lithium battery do you mean? LiLo, LiPo, LiHv? Could you tell us more about feeding time code from camera to F2?
