I don't think he was "easily distracted", I think he was looking for ways to release the tension. Cats often do this, they also start to wash their fur when they are nervous or confused and don't know how to react to something.

That's displacement activity, many animals do that:
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Displacement_activity
In this case, it's displacement grooming, which is normal in cats. If they suffer chronic stress it may become excessive, resulting in damaged hair and skin.

Do you guys have that one cat that is somewhat like a mediator between human and your other cats? Blizzard is a silver Bengal. I ended up adopting my parents two cats along with it.. the introduction took all of 10 minutes before they established who was who and were playing with each other. My parents cat Dylan will weave between my legs in an attempt to ask for something... i never know what this cat wants... as i don't speak cat.. Blizzard will walk up and tap my leg with his paw in an attempt to get me to follow.. i follow him and he will tap the empty water or food dish with his paw to tell me "this is what he wants" i fill the water bowl and he will walk away and go lay in his bed while dylan comes and drinks.. the same thing happens the other way. i can tell one of the cats to get off the counter or table and Blizzard will let out a meow and the other cats will do it..

1 room for a cat is "dirty" = everyone screaming "clean your house." To me, it's a bit cluttered but looks like it is a spare room made into a
makeshift cat room and sure, the litter being on the floor was annoying but maybe the opportunity was right and they did not want to miss it by cleaning it up. Think about it, a new kitten in a strange new environment with potential predators outside the door is likely not
going to be content with a loud ass vacuum. As well, it could stir up the other cats and prevent them from being able to get them together.
Everyone wants to jump to conclusions so they can feel better about themselves.

I don't believe for a second that at any point yet has Chatzi become distracted by any sort of play. But he is testing the water to see whether playing in Teego's presence is a safe thing to do. "Is it okay if I relax a bit and try having fun?" He checks back in every second or two, to be sure that relaxing won't result in a dirty swipe (like he gave Teego the other day). But Teego is still being cool, just watching, not trying to double-cross him. And at the end, it's not like Teego was fooled by the box, or Chatzi's attempt to jump through it at him. But it was a very encouraging moment that Chatzi was able to establish a bit of interactive play with Teego. Yes, they can have fun! Yes, they can share a joke, and have it be no big deal. The tension is obviously beginning to settle just a bit as they begin to understand each other.

  • @SocialLocust
    @SocialLocust 5 лет назад +3

You can tell they definitely wanted to play with each other the whole time, but it's just like with humans, except instead of small talk, they do this sort of interaction.

What you see as being distracted here is actually a so called "displacement activity".
It is common in complex animals with increased neural activity. Since cats do not have a very wide range of behavior, neural inhibition can lead to hiding or simulating a hunt.
You may want to read it up, since it can be often observed in humans as well. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Displacement_activity

It's so interesting (and entertaining) how much psychology goes on in cat interactions. The narrator of these videos is amazing, he truly understands and describes so well what's going on. Great videos, keep up the good work! :)

Love how your cats are not displaying the usual growling and hissing that goes on whenever a new cat is introduced into the household. Also got a giggle from Chatzi being so easily distracted then alarmed then distracted then alarmed... ! =)

I'm afraid I'm not surprised that happened. Cats dont do "playdates" :-) introducing a new cat is an involved process, and this series gives you an idea of how to minimise problems.

Bravo! Good show old boy and this is a compliment from the States! We have many cats and dogs as cohabitors of our home! Nobody "owns" a cat! We live with them and our dogs and are all family members! Thanks so much for your videos and please relay to your little buddies they are very fortunate to have become your charges! Best of luck! We definitely owe you a brew!!

Super nice videos! I really enjoyed the Chazzy introduction videos! I also have been amazed by cats capacity to turn their backs to potential attackers!
