    Interesting video, thanks. We have solar panels and are looking at ways to be more energy efficient. Mostly insualtion at the moment, but I expect we will move all electric eventually.

    It will be intresting to do a comparison of the runnuing costs compared with n/g

  • @Tony-Stockport
    @Tony-Stockport Год назад

    Thank you for that. It's definitely the way forward. Would a normal 3 bed semi be too big for this boiler to handle?
    Gas is a third of the cost of electricity but electric boilers are double the efficiency so the running costs shouldn't be 3x that of gas. Still dearer though.

  • @johnrockley9472
    @johnrockley9472 Год назад +1

    Brilliant video, but would you have one? This is the small one, they go to 27kwh! Would require 3 phase supply. Do they modulate down? Would need weather comp. Opentherm. What would the D NO say about a block of flats full of them? Were told not to do the washing between the 4 & 7pm, this jobbie could cost a lot to run on a variable tariff. Would not storage heaters and immersion be cheaper to run? Just saying!

  • @yensabi
    @yensabi Год назад +6

    Nice one , they are the future as most new builds now don’t have gas...!
    You can also get a system version and hook up to a mega flow for decent hot water pressure , Ive fitted a few and they are very easy compared to a gas boiler and are ideal when a flue run is a problem , as for running cost’s gas is cheaper per kw hour.... 👍

    • @cputilitysolutions
      @cputilitysolutions  Год назад

      Yeah the main reason to go electric here was due to the awkward flue run 👍🏽

  • @dazl7954
    @dazl7954 Год назад +5

    Nice install, I am guessing that the new DHW flow rate is less than the old system, (comparison would of been good), hope they have solar, as I can imagine their electric bill rocketing with that unit, wonder how it will cope with potential dirt in the system which could occur and possible scale, time will tell I am sure... old unit was a beast to remove tho. nice job. well done.

    • @cputilitysolutions
      @cputilitysolutions  Год назад

      Yeah not as good a flow rate as the old one but it's a 2 bed flat so it's sufficient for them. Not sure about the future plans for solar but it's an option for sure!

  • @tonyfarrell6925
    @tonyfarrell6925 8 месяцев назад +2

    Really interesting, however surely the 12 kW option would not be sufficient for a reasonable DHW flow, especially in winter, when you consider that most gas combi's are at least 24kW.

    Regular electric boiler like this would work well with batteries, either in conjunction with solar or charging them overnight on eco 7.

      You should be able to run around 8-10 rads. Hot water flow rate isn't the best on the electric combis yet, around 7/8 litres per min on a 12kw and around 9 on a 15kw. Running a bath will struggle a bit but showers, taps, etc no problem

    Hi Will this boiler featured in this video be good to run a full standard bath tub and if so at what flow rate would it be, and would it be constant hot flow as a gas combi boiler would do?

    • @Ironbuket
      @Ironbuket Год назад

      He mentions the flow rate at 17:12 and quotes 9L/min
      The cheaper electric boiler models can be as low as 5L/min so beware
      The boiler here (ECA Arceus) comes in different versions, from 12 up to 27Kw. This was the 12Kw model and, from the figures I was able to find, is rated at 8L/min (not 9). The notes state that at 8L/min you may have to turn down the flow rate to fill a bath. For some context, the NHBC guidance recommend restricting flow rates at the output as follows: Basin, Sink & shower - 6L/min, Bath - 9L/min. As a result, this unit my struggle when filling a bath, especially if that output hasn’t been restricted.

      @@Ironbuket Thanks for the response and detail on this mate, my 1 bedroom flat isn't connected to the mains and I've been trying to make the decision between an a big unvented cylinder and a combi boiler. I love a bath (practically have one every day) and if these combi boilers are going to have an issue filling a decent size bath (mines 1800) then a big cylinder seems like a better option possibly... any tips would be ace

    • @Ironbuket
      @Ironbuket Год назад +2

      @@RagTimeJack Just to clarify, you will still be able to fill a bath, but it means you can’t just turn the tap on full else a boiler, rated in power as this one, wouldn’t be able to keep up. The situation gets worse if someone is using the boiler elsewhere at the same time (sink or heating was on). Im far from an expert on this, but we have been exploring electric boilers as an option to replace our old gas combi. I found there is very little info out there on this kind of setup (electric combi and nothing else). People almost always have a water cylinder when using an electric boiler. If you are considering combining this with solar power you have to have a cylinder or some kind of thermal storage else getting the panels is a waste of time (they cant directly feed enough power into an electric boiler to run it - even with storage batteries you cant get enough). Also beware that not all electric boilers can accept hotwater input and so are not compatible with solar heated water. Things are far more complicated than just electric boilers cost more to run, there are many other things different about them and you can easily get screwed over by an installer if you don’t do your own research. If you just have a gas combi on the wall doing everything, I haven’t seen any examples yet of someone swapping one out for a more powerful electric combi of this style without having to add extra stuff elsewhere in the home also

    • @RagTimeJack
      @RagTimeJack Год назад

      @@Ironbuket Hey Man, thanks for all the extra info! I had a look online and also consulted with my plumber a bit more. Tested my water pressure and it looks like I'm getting 11 litres per min out of my cold mains. Looks like for that to be something a combi can keep up with ill have to get a 25KW electric combi on average which would be fine....unfortunately it seems like you need to have 3 phase electric for a boiler of that KW so I'm going to go for a nice size unvented cylinder for my nice hot baths and showers!

      did the incoming fuse need to be checked before you did this job.. some houses only have a 60am or 80amp main fuse.. and with other appliances running aswell as the boiler i would think it would blow the main fuse... i know there is something called 'diversity' whicvvh means everything in the houose wont be running at the same time.. but i guess you dont want to be on the limit if the incoming main is only 60am or 80amp.. great video! thanks

      @@brendanfisher2528 we had an electrician do that part of the job, he did say there was only a 60A main fuse but he worked out that it would be fine as there wasn't anything else with a large load and unlikely the boiler would be running at full capacity for long periods of time
