Spent 52 years of my working life in the gas industry industry, loved every day, retired now, Steve
Happy retirement, buddy.
Great video Allen. I've learnt a lot from you more than engineers I've been out with. Thank you
Thank you.
Great Video again Allen! You are lucky to have a sparky that arrives on time, does a nice neat job and tidies up his mess afterwards 🤩
He really is a good guy. 😂
He didn't even send me a bill lol.
Very insightful video Allen! Keep up the good work!
Thanks.
Thank you for the video! So helpful, I hope you do more on electric boilers. living in a tiny 1 bed house cut off from gas mains. I don’t have the room for a heat pump or the money for the insane installs and this seems like the most logical next choice to heat water and retro fit real rads over time
Thanks very much for your comment, please consider subscribing to support the channel 🙂
Government will give you 7k to install a heat pump, the install on a small 1 bed house will be less than a boiler. Your bills will be well under a grand a year, or for one of these and I wouldn’t be surprised your bills are 2 - 3 grand a year.
Fitted a few of the 14kw combi Strom boilers ….customers happy with them …very light and easy too fit ….probably part of the future too be honest . Tec help line is spot on too 👍🏻
Thank you for the feedback.
Are they happy when they have received their electric bill?
That’s not my problem ….but they only have one bill. Too pay as there usually not on the gas grid …..😂
Joined the Dark Side here Allen!! But a very informative video too - Thank You.
Thanks.
You are a credit to the industry Allen, keep up the good work, cheers Steve
Hi Steve. Thank you so much for your support.
That was brilliant. Might get one soon
Don't forget to subscribe for more videos. Thanks for watching.
Fitted an 18kw combi to UFH heating and basic domestic hot water system last year.
Very easy to install but programming not the easiest on first install.
Powered by solar PV/ battery/ 3phase.
Plus wise, easy Install but requires 3 phase supply so limited applications, LPG/ oil are options.
Thanks.
Only £5.40 an hour to run at full bore in January when the battery is flat. You taken it out yet?
About to install their 14kW combi version in a caravan at the moment. I wanted to remove all of the Calor gas from the caravan, so this is (hopefully) going to be ideal!
Not sure which one is cheaper to run? Maybe the Calor Gas would be better for this one.
Allen just read on the Strom site, that the Strom Electric Combi E-Boiler 14.4KW single phase can't run a bath and recommend that only 3 phase units are selected for applications that include a bath.
Thanks.
Thank you for the video, where did you get the high temperature flexible hoses from?
Thank you in advance.
These were from City Plumbing.
Only ever worked on a system that had one, well two actually. Care home if i remember right. No issue with them i think that they have their place tower blocks being a good example if the whole building had them and maybe sum deal with the electric company who knows. As for being in an area without gas, solid fuels my choice, but I'll always say that! Lol Great vid again mate, keep up with good work
Thank You.
Very nice Allen.
Thank You.
Mine gas heater is going to red 6 bar i open the sink to reduce the pressure then goes 3 bar lower is normal 1.5- 2 also has pipe noises like hit metal on metal nothing is touched preasure release valve is open i have to stop boiler electric button 1st or close the gas 1st temp outside building -5°C if i reduce the other heaters ?
Great video mate ,my only concern is them flexible hoses on them ,Been fitting electric boilers for about 15 years now .Take a look at the electro max in my opinion the best on the market.
Thanks for the feedback.
Very useful for mobile homes ❤
👍
Hi Allen, many thanks for your video. I wondered if you have come across the E5 error message with Strom boilers before and if you had any troubleshooting tips you could advise to correct this fault?
I haven't had any faults yet; I will try to do some future fault-finding videos. Thanks.
Do Strom actually make these or just rebadge? , I bough a electric combi from Jnod factory outlet that seems to be the source for the Strom.
Please would you do a review on that rothenburger pipe bender looks very clever. Also could you run it off solar and batteries and for how long
Will do.
The solar thing, I've done it, 3 phase no chance but single phase just about, I have a wind turbine up too....
Electric boilers would be the answer with green electricity but they're an absolute fortune to run.
Depends how much you pay for electricity, We are paying around 8p KWH atm. Thanks.
@@AllenHart999 is that time restricted?
@@daz3745 Thats the blended rate. something like 30p peak and 6p off peak, But I charge my battery off peak. Thanks.
@@AllenHart999 what times are your off peak?
@@daz3745 11.30 to 5.30
I had a long type stradae electric boiler in a flat about 10 years ago and everytime i turned it on it was frightening how much money it was gobbling up.
Im guessing these bew boilers are more efficient.l, i would consider one for hot water only.
It depends on the energy tariff and when you use it.
Thanks
Thanks.
Thanks
I dont have gas at all in this property as it all electric. My cylinder takes ages to heat up. Would the electric boiler be best upgrade? Also how good the electric combi boilers?
Combi boilers (electric) are good enough for central heating & hot water for all needs including a shower EXCEPT for a bath due to lower flow rate - although theoretically that depends on how long you want to to wait to fill a bath up :). Of course due to lower BTU rating the central heating might also be an issue in larger properties. They do come in higher KW rating above the 14.4 KW (which is 62A & really the max to leave enough left on a 100A consumer box for all other electrics in the house). The ones above are 3 phase & can draw KW ratings to match gas boilers, but of course a 3 phase supply is needed & would have to be fitted to a property if not already available.
If money is no object... then yes, electric boiler and a 3Phase supply... but if you're not a multi-millionaire... then I'd be looking at other solutions. Heating water in a cylinder via an immersion on an overnight cheap rate for example ?
I just had a idea, could these boilers be run off economy 7 off peak electricity in the night time to heat up hot water storage tanks in the loft that is insulated. And in the day time use the solar panels on the roof to also heat up the hot water storage tanks in the loft.
Yes, Absolutley
Yes... but there are far far cheaper ways to do that.
I think this maybe the future couse for boilers, electric or electronic boilers. E boilers.
Gas would be cheaper to run, But in flats etc these look good. Thanks.
7 radiator and hot water how much kw electric boiler fixed
Hi Allen , I accidentally got into the admin menu (press power button, then the admin menu long) and I get a screen with PP (00, 10, 20 ...P1,P2,P3...). Since i touched that my boiler won't heat :'(. I've read the user manual and I dont know how to use that menu since it is inteded only for admin. Do you know how what it is and how to use it ? (im trying to understand why the termostat turned off... no green light). Thank you so much !
I haven't looked that far yet. Did you sort it?
I have this boiler in my house but we can’t have a shower longer than 8 minutes and then the water gets cold. Do you know why?
مرحبا Allen
يبدو حلا مثيرا، أفضل من مرجل الغاز، ولكن ماذا عن فاتورة الكهرباء والاستهلاك
Thanks.
What's the electrical bill like in comparison to natural gas boilers? Also, do electrical boilers bring long term results without electrical faults and would they be successful for the next 15 years because boilers you don't replace till at least 10 years minimum.
If you have gas then you should not consider electric. Thanks.
I have the Baxi Platinum because I watched 1 of your videos years ago and I went with 1 of your personal recommendation @@AllenHart999
Great Video Alan 😄 hopefully as time passes they'll get even more efficient and cost less to run. Had any orders for electric combi boilers yet? They seem better than heat pumps to me.
Thanks.
They’re already 100% efficient. Problem is electricity is a precious resource, one you’re much better off getting to run a heat pump.
Any hope of running this of a solar panel
Not really, But solar panels would help to reduce running costs.
@ 7:30 in my country It cost @ 3.5-4 times more to run an electric boiler compared to a gas boiler…
I had many crying clients after the first 2 electricity blills 😅
👍
Not a viable solution for DHW and space heating. lets says your tariff 30p per KWH. with that 7kw unit on for an hour your cost would be £3.15 not including the standing charge. People choosing a electric boiler most of the time will not have the luxury investment on PV & battery storage.
Well I see the upside that moody gas fitters will be a thing of the past. So that’s a bonus. And the second bonus it gives us sparks more work.
Thanks.
Ive got a 7kw combi
Hot water useless..it cost a fortune to run ....going back to oil ..my last bill for december was 700
Who advised to change from oil to electric? Have you looked at what a heat pump would cost to run.
Everthing brilliant:). But flexible connector ? I wouldn't use.
I imagine your house full of boilers and stuff all neatly piped up 😅😅😅.
Jokingly I say this
😂
Reminds me of a 10x version of a electrical shower, lol i will stick to gas boilers ,
These are for people with no gas, Flats etc. Thanks.
Good video Alan
It could be the way forward,There all ready on with small Nuclear Power Stations
Gas would nearly always be cheaper but gas is not always possible.
Hope it’s better than their motorised valves… my suppliers stopped stocking all their stuff, too unreliable
It's on the wall in my studio so we will see what happens, It's under warranty for 5 years. Thanks.
It is not what you will aspect
For most instala you need to use hot water to only one outlet
I install to many of this
If you need a lot of hot water you will install an unvented cylinder and an electric boiler for heating
All the best
👍
Thanks.
Does anyone know how to set a timer on these boilers? We have one in the house that we've just moved to and ive only ever had gas boilers with really simple timer devices. But with this one the boiler is constantly on if the temperature drops below the setting on the thermostat. Ie including through the night or when there's nobody in. It's costing me a fortune to run but can't figure out from the manual how to set a timer? Any advice much appreciated
The 'modern' way... is to have a 'set-back' temperature. So when the boiler is "off" the temp drops down to the 'set-back' temp, but will never be off (unless the temp is higher than that 'set-back' temp of course). The logic to this is that when you want the room to be at say 21°... the system has less work to do, and thus it gets to temperature quicker and cheaper. The downside of course... is that if you only want 21° for 3 hrs a day... you'll be paying to heat the room to say 10° (or whatever the set-back temp is set to) for the other 21 hours !!!
Also... you said that it's costing you a fortune... well, yes, it will. Electric boilers are probably the most expensive form of heating !!! What did you expect ?
Did you manage to get this sorted? We have a similar issue…
Gas is best....petrol...diesel....Mmmmmm great stuff.
What if they do not have Gas?
@@AllenHart999 LPG.
@@UpTheMags74 LPG is gas
Cheap to run, almost free during power outages.
@@AllenHart999 it's stored 🤣
I have same boiler won’t turn on
With regard to installing one realisticly it has to be down to tariffs, basically not at the moment. Sorry Allen Gas is cheaper.
Gas is cheaper; this isn't a replacement for a gas boiler.
I have gas and electricity, I think the price tariff is about the same price. Not a lot of difference.
Isit cheaper to run then a air source heat pump
At 32p/kWh this will cost a fortune to run.
I pay 8p for electricity on average
Can I add, as someone who has just converted from gas to electric, I can generate my own electricity a lot easier then my own gas, depending on how many beens I've eaten of course 😅
But you get my point tho....👍👌👍
@@EZ-D-FIANT in that case you should be using a heat pump with approximately 400% efficiency, not resistive heating that's only 100%. Maybe you are?
@@Chris-hy6jy yea I'm thinking about one this year I've deliberately left my rad pipes intact and kept my rads (I'm using electric rads and a tankless for water atm) for the possibility, I've got some groundwork planned anyway so might go underground as I'm in UKland so dunno how good an air one would be lol.....
Get yourself some solar power. There's a 14 grand grant from the government.
Electric boilers are dross,
Strom who?
Gas is here to stay
What if they don't have gas.
Look I can still lift a boiler
Ha ha only just, Getting old now. Thanks.
I hate to say this allan but you’re pushing electric appliances and they cost a fortune to run - ok you have battery back up but they cost a fortune to install and maintain - maintenance is avoided in your videos
Heat pumps are fine, direct electric heating is totally nuts. 30p/kwh
Hi Neil, I am not pushing electric appliances, I am however trying to add all heating solutions on my channel, That way people can add comments and give opinions. Just remember that different products are suitable for different applications. Thanks.
@@edc1569 Heat pumps are not always suitable. An example would be a high-rise flat in London. Thanks.

I guess you just do sponsored content these days. Shame.
This video isn't actually a sponsored video. It's a video to show people electric boilers, however, I do sponsored videos as it keeps the channel going and allows me to donate all revenue from videos to charity. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel.
@@AllenHart999why not mention the crippling cost of running these then? If one family installs this thing thinking they are “doing the right thing” and don’t realise it’s going to cost them 4x the running cost compared to gas. 6p a unit vs 25p. It’s these kind of mistakes that get people into crippling debt. I know your heart is in the right place, but these things are for exceptional requirements.
Iz dis irish accent? 😂😂

This boiler might be an insentive but due to electric prices and those companies ripping people I will not be buying. You lot must think that money grows on trees. Think again.
What would you install in a flat with no gas?
With the money plumbers make at you can have two or three expensive holidays a year give a thought to people that cant afford one.
Mini split but having the boiler too would be great! @@AllenHart999
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I only fit electric boilers for my customers now, if you install or even service/repair gas boilers you should be heavily fined for killing the planet.
How dare you, I guess your one of those brainwashed cop agenda 2030 trans folk!
TWAT
Gas would normally be cheaper to run.
@AllenHart999 my customers don't need to know that and once its fitted and they get their first electricity bill its already too late.
Heavily fined? W ⚓
Can u fix me here I got viessmann 100 my radiators are warm but no water coming out of my taps
