To Me, it's all a bit DIY looking.
@@gregbenham5586bit harsh that, I think it looks pretty spot on tbh.
Crazy expence when its more effective to install tankless instant heaters in the kitchen and bathroom. I have just installed a electric combi that has separate heaters for radiators and instant hot water.
👍🏼👍🏼
Mark I thought I would just say how much I love watching your channel. I have no experience of plumbing and no intention of taking it up as I am the wrong side of 50 now but I can clearly see how you could inspire many younger people to take on your profession. Keep up the great content. Robin
Thankyou Robin…. Very kind words and glad you like the channel
You are a great thinker planner of projects with excellent outcomes!😊
Thanks buddy…. Kind words
Your work is so neat, tidy and professional. A pleasure to watch. Thanks.
Thanks buddy
Thanks Mark for your videos. Really enjoy watching them. You and PB are brilliant! Got a job in a coupe of days and contemplating on either soldering or press fit…. 🤔. It is under floor boards for relocating pipes and a new rad…looking at this I might use the press to save time. Thanks again for sharing your experience with us.
Thanks mate, glad you like our content…..
I think I would go press for ease
Wicked install Mark. Would be proud to look at that. Well done mate 👍🏼
Thanks mate, enjoyed doing it to be honest
Fair play mark such tidy work 👏👏 pressfit is starting to prove itself now
Thanks mate…. 👍🏼👍🏼
Great video pal, they have definitely improved electric boilers over the year
Cheers buddy….. yep I was very impressed to be honest…
This is why I like the idea of the remes press tool with the angle jaw adaptors.
Yep angle jaws coming for the Novopress soon
I can really see the benefits of press fit its clean and time saving, and yes you have to think ahead, but that comes with experience of using it .
I would really like to have a go with it .
One good thing I can see straight away is that you can make half a tee without having to press the whole lot ,thats something you cannot do with soldering.
Electric boilers have come on leaps and bounds since the last time i fitted one which was over 12 years ago.
Also it incorporates the cirulator and bypass as well.
It's good that you had basically a clean canvas to mount everything out of the way.
And another thing is that pre-plumbed cylinder worked a treat, never fitted one,i always fit the standard type unvented .
Yet again another quality install, and a real insight into what we go through to provide customers with heat and hot water.
Yours is the only channel i watch which is not full of click bait and stupity.
Fantastic video as always.
Thanks buddy….. appriciate the kind words…. Yes it’s a very good system to be honest
Hi Mark, getting to grips with the press fit, I think the job looks great with the pressed fittings, in that setting.
As far as thinking ahead about what to press in what order, an element of that goes into it when soldering fittings too.
You just get used to it and it becomes natural after a while, as we say, press, push and solder all have a place depending on the situation.
I’m looking forward to the film on the cost of press fit fittings etc, have a great week and take care, regards, Chris. 👍👍👍
Thanks Chris….. yep I’m getting to grips with it a little now
Brilliant install Mark, the electric boiler looks very nice,
The press fit looks very nice and clean,
Haven’t seen you do much soldering in awhile 😂

A lovely neat install 👍
Working in an outbuilding makes life so much easier doesnt it!
Regarding the pressfit access to that tee behind the cylinder....i have seen another video where they had an sngled adaptor tgat tit between the tool and the head to facilitate access to situations like these, it may be worth purchasing.
Anyway, a good job and an interesting video to watch
Thanks buddy…. Yep angle jaws are now avalible 👍🏼👍🏼
Nice install there looks good
Thanks buddy
Installed many electric boilers. TBH I’ve been impressed. No flue…. No condense….easy sighting. Have yet to do a combi version tho
Yep I’m very impressed with it to be honest👌🏼
How are they for scale in hard water areas?
Interesting video thank you for showing the install. A surprising choice by the customer particularly in view of the property (from what I can see) - I would guess that house has a heat loss of around 9 KW at - 2C, his bills are going to be eye watering unless he heats his house to around 10C.😉 There’s a place for electric boilers and high heat loss properties are not the place for them - well unless you are minted of course.
Solar panels now in place on this job
@@MJTiffPlumbing Well, of course any contribution by solar generation on an annualised basis will reduce the annual electrical bill a bit but unless he owns a huge barn, not shown in the video, that he can deploy about forty panels on - it is not going to touch the sides in terms of meeting the heating demand.
@@normanboyes4983 its made a great difference so far
Great content, keep it coming. Have you fitted many electric boilers? What's been your best to work on?
Thanks buddy…. Should be fitting a few more soon so watch out😉
A very interesting video - thanks.
I think you did a neat job with the press fittings.
That house must draw some electrical power now! Hopefully they have solar and battery!
Solar going in soon
Nice to see you give press fit a fair chance, hate seeing plumbers disregard it because they aren’t open to new ways of working or investing in new tools. I see it in all trades and it’s not that the old ways don’t work, because they definitely do! But doesn’t mean you should be set in your ways and not move with the times.
Yep I just want to give an honest review and test of pressfit as I know it’s so expensive
Im not a plumber but heavily reserched press for a commercial project i was planning. Id suggest clipping before pressing. When you did the first press the pipe was flapping all over the place.
Another recommendation is to use McDonald water storage for cylinders. Might not be cheap but they are all made to order and can be whatever you want with fittings wherever you want them. If likd this job youve got fixed pipes to hook on to you tell them where they are and theyll put the fittings on the cylinder where you need them.
Cheers buddy will take a look👍🏼
@@MJTiffPlumbing I put one link in the Elison cylinder swap video, they do like for like on them and make them to fit the space.
Hi nice job pal I got press fit but still I prefer soldered fittings as I think looks better and tighter joints but press is good when you got bit of water in pipe and so on 👍
I agree with you completely mate
Enjoyed this, and must say the pressfit is doing well. That pipework once all done and in place is looking pretty sexy.
Magaclense/magnaclean something a competent Diy'er can install? Looks reasonably straight forward.
Thanks buddy 👌🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I’ve got customers who are paying £600+ a month on electric boilers 😅 love the work mate, but the customers a brave one doing it like that
Will be getting a monthly update on what it’s costing them….. it won’t be anywhere near that figure I can assure you. And it will be a lot less than there oil boiler was costing them
I recently installed a EHC comet combination unit which is a combi and unvented cylinder in one. Its the size of a fridge/freezer but it works really well. Only issue we had was the main fuse needed upgrading to 200 amp as the draw of current was too high!
Sounds interesting that… will take a look
That's not a domestic installation, you are in CT territory there, all domestic meters are rated at 100amp and that's not continuous use either
Sounds like that would be 3 phase as they run more than 14.4KW & need 3 phase to achieve it & are used when a bath is supplied by it or when higher flow is needed for hot water. Also possibly when more radiators are needed & more than 14.4KW is needed which draws 63 amps at 230V.
Steve the Sparky - New subscriber love your videos
Thanks buddy…. Welcome aboard
I have the same problem with same press gun just ordered angled jaws for them also thst pipework I’d of turned the hep elbows to the left come out of them and joined it all there just looping round loads of flow restriction 👍 also buy some reducing tees saves putting reducers in 22 tees also put some tees with valves on for flushing way you’ve done it which is what most people do flushing all the crap through the boiler I put valves on tees at the bottom and turn boiler off and flush through just the heating 👍
I flush with the Magnaclean so it also runs through the boiler…. 100% system flush then, not missing out key parts like the boiler
@@MJTiffPlumbing yeh get you if it’s a new install I just flush the pipework like tees on flow and return isolate boiler if it’s an old system I try and get diverter open don’t like doing it had a piece of shit stuff in a hex once £400 later I’m chaniging it 😂
Great video again.
Ive been using press fit for around 10 years. Only recently ive gone back to soldering now and again, recently 54mm heating piprwork for a hotel boiler house, but ive only soldered thete due to cost of the larger peess tool and jaws.
Have a good week matey.
Thanks buddy….. yep I’m starting to get used to the press
Well explained
Thanks mate
Lovely
Job
Thanks mate
Good practice to mark ur fittings
Yep that’s why I do👍🏼👍🏼
Nice neat install, just wondering if you think there is any energy usage difference between using the boiler on a s plan as you done or using the boiler for heating only and using the immersion heaters for hot water
Thanks buddy…… to be honest I would say it’s cheaper to run it as an s plan
Yes to the press. Looks really good. Would be interested to know how much energy that electric boiker uses compaired to there old oil or the equivalent in gas. 👍👍
Will be finding out soon 👍🏼👍🏼
Can't wait to see the break down on costs for a job like this probably an extra £50 worth of fittings vs end feed. Less mess less effort i probably start using mine now.
Yep I can see the pros and cons of both solder and press
Look Nice mate ,very neat.
Press fit looks a bit cumbersome to me (I am not a plumber, leave to people who know👍)compared to solderimg.
How do you know what joint has been done, Mark ?
I would have to be putting a mark on it mate.
Especially has I can't remember what I did 5 min ago😢😢.
I always press them as I go along…. Same as soldering, I’ve always done it as it goes in.
Some fittings have a seal that only comes off when it’s been pressed
Nice job
Thanks buddy
I still get the feeling you are not sold on the press fit Mark, your face tells a different story 😀 Great video, lovely looking job pal
Yep…. I’m not 100% with it just yet….. don’t think I ever will be.
Good install Mark 👍. Be interesting to see what the initial outlay and running costs are on that electric boiler. Could be a good one to pair up with renewables.
Good to see the thought process involved in press, all being well I'll be there myself one day after college 😊
Thanks buddy…. This the whole set up fitted was around £4k….including me, sparky and all the materials….. will be waiting to see the running costs in real time
@@MJTiffPlumbing It would be brilliant to have feedback on the running costs in winter : I have exactly the same dilemma for a house just near you (CV37) with only electric / kero 28 (with a 20 yr old boiler)
Can you see yourself leaning towards it on future jobs? Are you worried about potentially not getting the job because of the cost of the fittings etc, lovely that prv btw 😎👍🏼
No that’s not even crossed my mind as the time it saves is a lot…. Will be doing a video on it very soon
Hi, it's a great job. Can you explain more about electric connection ( programmer, room thermostat) please
That’s one for the sparkies on this job buddy
Great vid running costs will be interesting has the customer got solar panels.👍👍👍😎😎😎
They will be going in tail end of the year
Plus its just good fun to get the oul press gun out. It makes plumbing more fun i think anyway
I takes the skill away from soldering pipes I think…. But it is very easy
I think the fittings look class as well
👍🏼
Hi I think the press fittings do look good on a job like that but under a kitchen sink where room can be tight and a lot going on sometimes can look a bit messy so can see you not ditching the blowlamp just yet.
as i was watching i was thinking do you need the electric boiler to heat the water would it have been better to use a direct cylinder as your using electric to heat water to heat the cylinder anyway? (please don't take as a criticism)
Yep I know what you mean…. Could of had Direct but as the boiler was going in anyway it made sense to do it this way👍🏼👍🏼
What’s the hot flow rate like in the house with a 15mm cold feed Mark? Do they need to plan taking a bath?
12litres a minute at all outlets 👌🏼👌🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Im trying to fathom the pipe schematic for that system, fascinating video
Fairly straight forward…. Pause it and you will work it out👍🏼👍🏼
Do you have to lag all that pipework or does it only apply to new builds?
Yer it’s all lagged now…..
Lovely job pal, is that your blow-lamp ive seen for sale on ebay?
Hahahahah…… press is the Next Big Ting apparently
This position of the pressure gauge under the boiler will further create conditions for an air bubble, and its readings may not be correct. Otherwise, everything is very nice and neat.
It’s just a visual gauge to aid filling as said in the video buddy, there is a digital readout on the boiler (that won’t get air in😉)…… not that big an issue to be honest..
Nice neat pipework, but why not just fit a direct cylinder with two immersions? Cheaper, and similar recovery time plus less complexity for the pipework and heating controls, and it means you always get full power for the heating even if the hot tank is calling for heat.
Thanks mate….. customer wanted this set up as it’s doing a full heating system aswell so made sense
The electric will heat the water faster & feed the cylinder & it's pressurised meaning you gain efficiency as the higher the pressure the more heat per KW of electricity (higher pressure = higher temperature). Also no problems with the immersion heater elements going - albeit it means the coil in the electric boiler doing more work & could fail faster. Also as the heating side of the boiler would not be used in the summer it means it would be wasted, whereas as as it is it will be supplying hot water even in summer.
Hi mark ,
Have you not see the jaws that you press with the jaws on the gun ?
Angle jaws….. yep, they are on order
@@MJTiffPlumbing can’t wait to see them in action ! 👍🏻
Tidy job again Mark will be interesting to see if the electric boiler is cheaper than oil has the property got solar panels
Oh it will be mate…. That’s for sure!!!!
What’s the prices for something like this.?
Would have been miles better putting an up to date low kw oil boiler back in if the infrastructure was already there. Statistically miles cheaper than electric with or without solar pv (which doesnt give you much contribution in the winter months) oil is great if set up properly and not slung in, add in some pipe stats on the return so it doesn’t produce unnecessary heat and they can be so efficient, bizarre to change to electric in the current climate with costs of eleccy.
Customer is over the moon now he has Solar running it…..
Once it pressed can you twist it round
No mate it’s locked solid
Did they need a 3 phase upgrade for the boiler
No mate
Brymec for fittings buddy they make and supply them cuts out middle man we use them all time
👍🏼👍🏼
I can see you're still not 100% convinced on the press but I'm glad you're being honest about it as always nice little installed that, I've been told you can't have a 15mm cold feed feeding a unvented cylinder, is that true? (not got g3 so no idea myself)
MI say you can on this….. also it’s not feeding balanced cold
@@MJTiffPlumbing Yeah no problem, just I requested one be installed once and the guy told me that he couldn't unless it was 25mm mdpe and 22mm feed into the cylinder I was confused as hell :P Cheers man, great video as always
Odd he didn't go heat pump here though right? would of been alot cheaper to run then an electric combi
It’s not an electric combi…. It’s heat only👍🏼
Solar going in in the future
How quickly do you get a hot flow from the tap? Seems like a long way to travel.
About 5seconds at the kitchen tap…….. not an issue at all
Who do you register the unvented cylinder through? Because it's not gas or oil heat source you can't register it through gas safe or oftec. Which governing body do you use?... kind regards John....
NAPIT and I can sign it off as I have my G3 Unvented…… otherwise just get a local building inspector out and they can do it if your not part of a governing body👍🏼👍🏼
I don’t know a way of doing it. Building control aren’t interested in my area, I’m GasSafe registered but that’s no good, not NAPIT registered so basically if can’t be done but ultimately, who cares…
Great video. Just curious which boiler cost more to run, Electric or Gas. Im assuming electric because of the cost per unit or Kwh.
I would assume electric aswell…. However this customer does not have gas in and was using oil
A well setup condensing oil boiler when you look at cost per KWh and efficiency.
Direct electricity is great when used directly!
Hi mate just wondering how comes you skip the parts of you installing the pipe work. I know it's more time consuming but not everyone can learn on site so just wondering if you do and keep them separate or what's the deal is really
Just the way I filmed this job, some jobs I show more like the latest house renovation one
@@MJTiffPlumbing okay cheers ill have a look thank you💯👑
Electric boiler is good if you have solar PV & go Off-Grid with batteries, I was told by Octopus 🐙 Energy if you have a smart meter you can save by Not using electricity on peak times, as they have a hot water tank they can charge that up Off-peak times👍I know Victron Energy make nice reliable Solar PV systems
This has solar now
hows the running costs for the electric bioler i believe they are very expensive to run, had any feedback from the customer ? Nice video though well explained
Thanks mate, they have said it’s a lot cheaper than the oil fired combi boiler they had in
@@MJTiffPlumbing right ok but i guess compared to gas they are more expensive, thanks for the reply
Looks like this cylinders coil return is before the heating return. The coil return should be the last T back to the boiler
It’s a pre-plumbed cylinder mate…👍🏼
hi buddy, just dropped on your video, i am at the point where my old gas boiler has pretty much died. The gas main is being renewed in the st. I am thinking about having it disconnected, save on a gas standing charge. To fit an electric boiler, but don't know much about these. Any thoughts??
I am in the same position. Gas boiler finally packed up & thinking of an electric combi & as I only have 5 radiators & no need for a bath as a shower can be supplied via the combi with the option of an electric shower fitted as well it seems ditching gas would be apt. They do cost more to run, however no need for servicing as regards to the gas & if the gas was ditched saving on the standard charge as you also pointed out. The only downside would be no heat or hot water if there was a power cut, not been an issue but it is nice to have the alternative just in case but not a deal breaker.
Hi, did you get the electric boiler? And did you get your gas disconnected?
@@grimawormtongue2014 hi, well long story really, they stopped replacing the gas main in the st and disappeared and not been back since. No information, typical shit utility company. Done a lot of research and a conversation with a trade friend. But the numbers just didn't stack up TBH. Boilers were around the same money but electric was 2 years warranty and the A rated gas boiler was 10 year warranty, so no brainer really. Had a whole system revamp in the end. Best move, lovely and warm and saving around £40 a month with the new gas system.
What was the performance of those radiators once heated up vs a gas boiler?
To be honest, they were slightly better than the oil fired combi that was in
Itll be the same. A kw is a kw wherever it comes from. The difference is how its produced and at what cost. More interesting is why indirectly heat HW with electricity when directly heating the water has no loss across the boiler HEX and the HW coil.
Im sorry to say not much thought has gone into this.
@@tomplumb7754you can heat the hot water on night time electricity which is cheaper with certain tariffs.
So having a heat only electric boiler will actually help as they will save on the hot water.
I live in an electric only property and we use a heat battery, charged on cheap night time rates (I use octopus go) and we spend about £7-8 per month for all hot water.
All direct electric.
For heating we use air conditioning.
Be useful to hear about the running costs over a 12 month period.
Yer hopefully I will be able to find out
Rented a house with an electric boiler......very expensive to run and it didnt modulate......it's just full on or off. A properly specced air source heat pump is the way to go if you want electric heating, on milder days they can cost 5 times less than an standard electric boiler. Only problem is they are mega expensive at the moment and lots of negative press due to cowboy installations.
This boiler is going to be so much cheaper to run than what they had….. been in a week or so now and customer loves it
@@MJTiffPlumbing wait until winter when the heating costs then £30 - £40 per day to run.
7 k a year electrical bill here we come. Unless they have some other plan . This is like using a petrol generator to top up an electric vehicle battery. Insanity! Nice pipework & quick at it.
You will be MASSIVELY surprised when I do an update video as to what they are using 😉👍🏼
Can you not show how you wired up the hewting system? That would be the mosy important part

Crimping is OK But maybe a nightmare to remove ? especially in a narrow space, the other thing you NEED is power to charge batteries for that crimper, so No electric on site back to compression or Yorkshire fittings, I'm not a plumber by trade, although plumb in a kitchen bathroom >25 years ago, my trade is aerospace - defence hardware verification qualification engineer, electronics mechanical hardware, inpressed with the electric boiler, will the pipes be lagged as an outside unit from main house?
Charge the batteries and it’s not an issue…. They last ages
The noise the press fit gun makes would drive me mad.
Mark the potable water expansion vessel does not pressurise the system or force any water out, it’s role is take up the expansion of the water when it is heated, as the system is sealed the expanding water needs to go somewhere
I know that buddy…… that’s why it’s called an expansion vessel👍🏼👍🏼…..

great job mark but I have to disagree saying the electric boiler will be cheaper to run than the oil electric is far more expensive than oil to run if he had replaced that with a new oil boiler a lot cheaper I am an oil engineer and I have fitted these boilers min 10 kw to feed them he will have big ills I know they modulate when they come up to temp and use less kw but because electricity is so expensive I think he will regret having it we have had oil for over 30 yrs and is cheaper than my electric bill to run

Now coupled up with solar so it’s working well for him
If it wasn’t for the cost of electricity vs gas, these boilers would be everywhere. They’re simple, cheap, don’t have to worry about explosive gases or venting off exhaust.
Maybe with solar and batteries this might be a better solution than a heat pump…
Of course a heat pump would be more efficient, but given an electric boiler is 1/10th the cost, better to put that extra in solar and batteries and offset your usage with cheap night time electricity.
Solar going in to this job very soon😉
Kind of makes a mockery of the CO2 debate doesn't it? If climate change was an actual issue then they would make gas the same price as electric & people would ditch all gas supply from their homes especially as electric is 100% efficient with regard to heating & yet they are burning gas to generate electricity.
An electric setup will not usually save money unless you have a PV and battery setup. One Litre of oil at say 60 pence per L gives 10KWh of heat. One kWh of electric gives 1 kWh of heat at say 40 pence. The oil setup will be say 90 % efficient where the electric is 100% efficient. The electric setup will cost significantly more to run. Time will tell.
