Lyrics:
Cab fare to nowhere is what you are
A white line to an exit sign is what you are
Oh but I saw in you, now I see through
Don't shed a tear for me, my life won't end without you
Long as the night will be, the sun will rise without you
A locked door on a candy store is what you are
A slim chance in tight pants is what you are
All that I loved you for, I want it more
Don't shed a tear for me, my life won't end without you
Long as the night will be, the sun will rise without you
You are giving what I'm not taking
I'm not missing what we ain't making
Oh but I saw in you, now I see through
Don't shed a tear for me, my life won't end without you
Long as the night will be, the sun will rise without you
Don't shed a tear for me, my life won't end without you
Long as the night will be, the sun will rise without you
Don't shed no tears,
I don't need a thing.
#80spop #PaulCarrack
Paul Carrack is one of the most underrated singers of the rock era
Agreed!
Totally agree, and I can't understand it - he's one of the best "Blue Eyed Soul" and Rock singers
Agreed!!
underrated by whom?
So true. And I thought his name was Paul Carrot. No one really knew his name was Carrack until the Internet. Hah
These little lesser remembered songs are what made the 80s so magical. The guitar parts, style, just so many little "80s" things about this song and many others that make them special.
Can someone tell me who the model of the video is, her name please
@@JulioCesar-ob6xu It is Kendall Conrad. She is now a bag designer. www.kendallconraddesign.com/
This song should have been HUGE.
That shows how packed the 80s were with melodies and talent.
@@rael2099 It did go #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 in February 1988, sadly it hasn't gotten much recurrent airplay in the past 25 years
Thank you it's Awesome
I remember hearing this song on the radio back in 1988. Those were some great times.
Yes they were!!!!
They sure were!
Agree!!!!
Great songs with wholesome lyrics
Its because it was before we became a progressive society. There's something to be said for conservative values and prioritizing freedom over safety.
I requested this song at 11 yrs old to the local radio station back in 88.
This song is a timeless classic.
AGREED!
I agree!! An awesome and classic 80's tune!!
It it not
Most definitely and without question!
ANTIFA SUCKS DING DONGS!😈
Paul sang the hell outta this song.
Another underrated gem of the 80s...
He's in my collection of vynly 😍
killer bass line, too
Too bad the video was so lame, because this song sure isn't. Ace, Squeeze, Mechanics, solo. Don't forget his fantastic 1990 contribution to Roger Waters' Berlin concert when the wall came down - Paul's take of Hey You is breathtaking.
Heard this abt 12 hours ago and at 241 AM its still haunting me ! What an Era. Late 80's. ca. '88......"...locked door on a candy store.." love it !
I will never, EVER, get tired of this song! An all-time classic.
U better get sick of it
It sucks as heck
Pfft.
I agree. Awesome song. Carrock is the man!
Locked door on a candy store - no truer words were ever spoken
So good!!!! Best line in the song. A classic
What about the follow-up line:
Slim chance in tight pants...!
Cab fare to no where!
It's songs like this that make me miss the 80's so so much, what a decade
I worked in an office at the time, but once a week or so, I had to go to the warehouse to archive files. They had radio music piped in, and I was very much alone. Whenever this song came on, I would put my files aside, and dance in the aisles. I don't know how anybody could resist dancing to this. Thank you, Mr. Carrack, and all who were involved in the collaboration.
Lol
I've loved this guy's voice since I was a teen in the Eighties. Paul Carrack is one of the greats.
Me too
One of the most versatile artists of the retro era!
this song was the beginning of the end for "pop" music. PAUL nailed this song
well rock and roll stopped evolving by 83, so it makes sense it died out in the 90s
@@citycrusher9308 ha ha ha yeah It actually got better in the 90s but ok .
@@jessiemorrison4425 Rock and roll songs ended in the 90s. Whatever was going on after the mid 90s belonged in a different category (because it wasn't rock and roll)
@@citycrusher9308 of course it's rock just. Just not that soft pussy shit you guys like. Our rock has balls
@@jessiemorrison4425 ah, no. rock and roll ceased to exist in the 90s. Whatever you listened after that is Pop music.
I remember this song!!!Good inspiration if you get used or broken up with someone. "The best revenge is living well"!
Remember when this was "pop" music... real instruments, structured songs, no autotune... long gone now.
Reminds me of December 1987. I was only 9 years old going on 10. There's no music like this anymore. Why did my parents get the better music even back then? I'm serious. They enjoyed 80s music back in the day. They loved what was on the radio and as a child it stuck with me in different memories with different songs.
80s mom here, my millennial son asked me when he was a teen what our version of "shitty pop music" was in the eighties and I said THERE WAS NO SHITTY POP MUSIC in the eighties. GenX forever!!
I personally think 1988 was THE BEST YEAR of the 80s!
Great year I loved 85
Anything between 1980 to 2005 was good. Something went really bad after that... can't put a finger on what made it go so wrong.
❤❤❤❤❤@@tonyd9030
Totally agree life was a lot easier
This is my most favorite of Paul's solo songs. I liked him with Mike & The Mechanics, too!
His #9 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 from late 1987 and early 1988
great song that rarely seems to get played anywhere anymore which is a shame because this is definitely one of the best songs that came out of in the late 80's.
@Doobie1975 Spot on. "...Slim chance, in tight pants." So much said in so few words, lol.
I saw Paul perform this song in person at Epcot years ago. Great performance 🎭
One of the forgotten gems of the 80's.
Paul Carrack has a great voice.. ! 😎
Even as someone who is pretty good at keeping himself positive about a long-term relationship ending, it is hard to deny that this song still makes me feel even better, haha. Paul Carrack has to be the only singer who has had huge fantastic and timeless classics with, like, what, four different bands? Could be even more I do not know about
One of my favorite pop songs of the 80's. Paul Carrack is a legend.
Memories of summers in the 80's. I wish I had a time machine...
Spot on!
I miss dropping acid, listening to heavy metal and worshiping Satan. Those were good days.
Don't we all
Tha show ain't over player
He has moved around from so many bands for so long and as a solo artist as well that most people don't even know his name or who he is and that's a shame. He's a legend at my house.
Can we just say that the models in this video are amazing?!
Carrack really belts out the vocals, much more than he was able to with Mike + The Mechanics. It’s a classic - you don’t hear this song nearly as much as we should on Sirius 80s channel, which is a shame.
Paul was and still is an amazing voice from the 80's, from Squeeze to Mike + The Mechanics to his own solo work here, a truly and sadly underrated vocalist.
Wasn't he also in Ace?
That riff is so simple yet so effective. What a voice as well.
Paul Carrack's legacy will be this timeless reminder that it is always best to run from the drama queen... no matter how "hot" they may be. What a great song!!
Haven't heard this song in decades. Heard it in a gas station tonight and It's been on repeat for me ever since!
The vocals...just wow....
It's amazing how a song can have very few lyrics yet be such a great song.
One of my favorite 80s songs right here!
This song bring back so many memories 👍 I can't stop playing it the 80s definitely 👍👍👍
He has a terrific voice.ll
No autotune, no Pro Tools, no digital anything. Just great musicians playing behind a superb male vocalist who happens to also write great songs that get even better with time.
MTV in 1988 was fucking great.... so many amazing songs.
💯
Played and sang this anthem often after my divorce.
Think I'll start playing it! It's been 2 years since she left
Hahaha!
LMAO
This song was popular when I broke up with my long-time boyfriend back in the late 80's. It was my theme song. "My life won't end without you!" And, of course, it didn't - in fact, it got better.
One of the greatest voices I have heard. Hope he has made plenty of $$$
I'm sure he has. 😊
I honestly cannot comment. First of all, it is a huge faux pas. Secondly, if you're so very anxious to find out, there is a website, I think called "celebrities' annual income", but I could not say, with absolute faith, that that would be the one. But I am sure that you can find out, with a little digging or research into what you're looking for shall yield you results.
I loved playing this on the wireless on my Drivetime show...the windows literally shook in the studio...FAB!!
Hell Yes! This is still one of my favorite songs!
Had this on a vinyl compilation LP in 1988. Whoever did the drums in this song was a legend.
Awesome performance of a very timeless song. love this and Paul unmistakably did justice to it.
Still listening in 2020!! Still one of my favorites!! Love ya Paul!!💋
2021
2022! 😉
Im known as the world's most experienced Bodyguard...I have looked after the worlds biggest celebrities for 30yrs+ from Weeknd, RW, 5sos, Gaga, Oprah Winfrey, KK, KJ, Swift, Beyoncé, Jlo..through to AC/DC, Paul Mc, Bruce S, Def Leppard, even MJ... and I will say this... one of the most nicest, friendliest, GENEROUS, people that I have met is this guy.. PC! Mate, you are most definitely NOT FORGOTTEN my friend.. keep pumping out them tunes! You people out there would be blown away if you knew how much modern day celebs/musicians listen to, write from and play off 80s/90s music!! I can walk into any modern day musös house on their days off and hear 80s music... just 2 weeks ago, I walked into Armandos (Pit bull) home and he had Def Leppard Hysteria playing, doing air guitar and singing!! Don't be suprised if music moves back towards this genre... as most lately, so many majors are incorporating their music into Trance, (which has never faded away and still pulls the worlds largest crowds, just see an Armin Van Buuren concert) Loose the Rap Crap, anyone can talk to a beat and lets get the rhythm back into music..
Great song! I love Paul's voice! One of the great vocalists of all time imo.
This is one of the most manliest songs ever .
Paul carrack my lawd!! He had a voice! And could write his off
The Living Years, Silent Running (Can You Hear Me Running), How Long, this song and several more are why Paul Carrack may not be one of the most underrated singers of the 80s, but he certainly is one of the least well known (since people say underrated by whom?) I don't know anyone at work who knows who I'm talking about when I say certain music act's names.
Takes me back to high school breakups. Great song.
Aside from this being just one of the most amazing songs ever... damn I didn't realize until tonight, Paul is so cute!!!!
One of the best of the 80's !
400k views? People don’t know what they’re missing. 80’s were the best
damn Kendal Conrad was and still is one of the most beautiful ladies of the eighties!
Oh my fond memories of this song ,late 80s ,and i was working at a gas station/food mart. They would play this incredible tune every half hour or so and we loved it. Paul carrack got me through some long nights and crazy customers.
Love Paul Carrack !!
I sort of ignored this song back in the 80s when I was a teenager but now I love it. Funny how that works.
That voice. This song. Brilliant.
Fantastic singer always has been
Que tiempos aquellos!
One of the best songs of the 80's... People can joke about the 80's, but everything about it rocked...
The Sun will rise without you! What a great song to end a relationship with!
This brings back memories.
Totally forgot about this song. Should have been a bigger hit.
It did get to #9 on the US Hot 100, but it's been forgotten since, but not by me.
Awesome 80’s song
Paul Carrack and Fish(ex-Marillion singer) are like brothers from another mother as both are incredible singer/ songwriters and have similar looks too.
👍
Always Loved this song!!!!
Always on MTV when mtv was great ! Miss the old days
Wonderful song. Living it right now, and it was written when I was just coming of age. Trying to forget her...
I remember this song hadn’t heard it till yesterday in a store that I was in
Sun still shines just not as bright when a person works their hardest to darken and dampen everything in your life. 💔
Timesless classic!
Pure pop excellence
I havnt heard this is 20+ years!!!damn!!
Pretty much what I’m going through right NOW. Got tears!!! Paul Carrack is so damn good.
Love Paul Carrack. Classy Man!
aww these are the days I'm remember in 15 years when I'm 30 sitting here yelling at my computer how the hell can these songs be so underrated, something I'll never understand along with why kids would like to listen to the trash that is called music now days.
This song has a Mike and The Mechanics feeling to this song
Paul was the head mechanic...You're right on!
Same vocalist, producer and era so would make sense

Paul Carrack - Don’t Shed A Tear
I first heard this on a compilation and immediately loved it.
Paul has done some great songs with other bands but for me, this solo effort was just as good.
An unforgettable image, a beautiful lady driving an old Pontiac around the Salton Sea.
This song really hits home, dated a girl in the 80"s from Levittown Pa who later move to Plainsboro NJ, I seen a lot of white lines driving back and forth from South Philly, it was well worth it, she was the one I wanted to spend my life with but I was not smart to hold on, we parted ways and it still hurts to this day.
My favorite 80s song❤ on my Playlist one of my moms favorite from when I was a kid RIP she made me ❤ this song to now Adult hood
It still hurts, even after all these years.
148 people dislike this song? Poor souls don't know what greatness is.
Great voice!!!! Love this song!!!!!
🤘✌💃🕺👔🕶 classic and great memories..Be independent strong never rely on anybody.. ✊✊🕺💃🕶
Paul Carrack has a voice that is a gift from God.
A voice that defines the "80's sound."
Man I haven't heard this song since it was huge on the radio back in 1988, couldn't even remember the name of it. Got it stuck in my head today while camping and all i had to do was search Paul Carrack and bang second video in the results. That's how distinctive his voice is. Man I miss those times.
Thanks for taking me back to a time in my life when I was going through a situation like this. Love this song ❤
I must say the 80s music put out a lot of positivity.ll
Summer 87/88 Highschool summer Ocean City MD!!! This song really takes me back!
Not even a hundred thousand views?! This is sacrilege!
This was a low key hit back then.
Yeah wait a minute! Had to go back and check. This song was everywhere back then. Surely more ppl remember it?!
@@trtb056 Too many great songs and artists back then. This just fell through the cracks along the way. I remember this song. But, had no clue who it was. Or even what the song title was. Stumbled across it. People just took good music for granted back then. Myself included.
Can someone tell me who the model of the video is, her name please
@@JulioCesar-ob6xu Sure can. Her name is Imma Grandma.
Way better than anything that's out today!! Today's music sucks fake auto tune voices no real Singer's!!!
Classic good riddance break up song..... Works for me!!
Que temazoo !!! Hoy diciembre 2021 lo escucho y me trae tantos recuerdos de mi juventud 😍 .... La mejor música de todos los tiempos fue la de los 80 saludos desde Argentina 🇦🇷
Love me some paul carrack
Give a listen to the title cut from this album: One Good Reason. The guy could sing the phone book back in the day and hit the Billboard chart.
Fantastic voice!!! One of the best lead singers I have heard.
Que temazonde Paul Carak
