True musical genius is the ability to make a song with so many twists and turns like this one that keep it interesting, rather than repeating the same tune over and over.

God I love this song! Why is it that once you start listening to these fire 80's hits, you end up binging on all 80's music (no matter the genre 'cause they were all bangers) for hours on RUclips? Nothing and I mean straight up nothing will ever dominate the music, culture and fads of the 80's! So blessed to have lived and experienced the enlightening 80's. This 55 year old will always be an 80's child!

"Penny Lane" and "Lucy in the sky with Diamonds".
In the middle part = some typically "ELO - SYNTHIE SOUNDS"
and Rolands Voice and Vocal Style = A little bit like the young GEORGE MICHAEL.

It gives you goosebumps because it is referring to the garden of Eden when Satan said to Eve if you eat of this fruit it will open your eyes and you shall become like gods. It’s so hard to get across to people how much secular music can be so enjoyable but the force behind it Comes from a very dark place I always suggest reading the lyrics. I say this with peace and love

The song was very popular back in the day. It made the rounds several times on the radio and on MTV and VH1. Sadly as great as it is. The general masses got tired of it and as music and people goes the masses moved onto the next big hit. Another thing that kind of killed the song was not to much later country music took almost a death grip on the country. That pretty much ended anything that sounded 80's or very early 90's. Also add that Roland and Curt split up and Roland had already move onto developing Raoul and the Kings of Spain, so Roland basically got what he got out of it and moved on. Tears for Fears have never been known to keep driving a song (that's probably not the correct word to use) past the album it was released on. Sure they will sing it in a concert but you generally don't see them keep driving to another rerelease. In the end it was good that The Hurting got basically leaked into the market. Otherwise they would have been a band that had essentially one release in the 80's outside of Sowing the Seeds of Love just making it out in 89.

That's called a "counter melody" in musical terms, it's when you put an alternate melody over the same chords of a verse or a chorus. For that reason, Roland begins to sing over Curt's melody in that part and it works perfectly.

This song was SUCH cutting edge at the time, partly due to the video which was amazing computer graphics at that time.
I love the part where it goes “ Time to eat all your words, swallow your pride...” and then OVER THAT kicks back in with - “High time we made a stand & shook up the views of....” TOTAL BRILLIANCE
