At the time that the series was on TV Bastion had not been created in the comics yet. The reason why Sinister says that he was around before is because he is a fusion of Master mold and Nimrod whom were previously in the series. The way that Bastion was born here is completely different than how it was done in the comics. It's a less convoluted explanation.

Bastion did not appear in the comics until 1996, four years after the animated series began. He would have been introduced right around the time they were finishing production on the final season of X-Men.
The key to watching this series and getting all the callbacks to previous events, such as Cable, Scott and Jean, seems to be less doing so as season 1 of X-Men '97 and more as season 6 of X-Men The Animated Series. Cable comes primarily from the late 3900s, where he has been battling Apocalypse (not yet introduced in THIS series) through several alternate versions of the future. When he originally went back in X-Men the Animated series, he helped free Gambit while a prisoner on Genosha and helped overthrow the original Mastermold. He then went back again and battled Bishop and the X-Men as both groups were trying to prevent a virus from spreading and wreaking havoc on the future (Bishop's future needing to prevent it, Cable's future needing to ensure it). Cable then joins up with them a few years later during Scott and Jean's wedding when a consortia of villains (Apocalypse, Mr. Sinister, Magneto, etc...) team up to kidnap all the telepaths across reality and control time. Magneto ultimately defects and helps them. This is also likely the time when Mr. Sinister kidnaps and clones Jean, as he is the one that delivers her to Apocalypse.
The Silver Samurai is the character you saw in Japan. Omega Red, a cold-war villain from Wolverine's past, is the one you saw with the tentacles waking up under water. He was last seen trapped in suspended animation in a sunken submarine.
Yes, while on their honeymoon, the consciousness of both Scott and Jean were willed thousands of years into the future by Mother Askani, their time-displaced daughter (Rachel Summers) from one of several alternate futures, where they raised Nathan for 12 years in the bodies of two others, "Redd" and "Slym"... although their true identities were not known to Nathan. This happened in the miniseries "Adventures of Cyclops & Phoenix" by Scott Lobdell and Gene Ha. Rachel is briefly seen in this episode as the one building the bridge in Cable's vision of the future.
In the final episode of the original X-Men animated series, Gyrich attempted to assassinate Xavier during a debate on live television. Having witnessed the attack, Magneto was attempting to lead hundreds of mutants gathered in Genosha in protest against the world, but the X-men convinced him to hold off and go see Xavier before he passed on. As Xavier was on his deathbed, giving his final words to the team, Lilandra arrived and explained that by using advanced Shi'ar technology from her home world, they could sustain his life... however, they would need to take him away from earth indefinitely. So the series ends with Lilandra leaving with Xavier, Magento standing in unison with the X-Men and the world believing that Xavier had actually died. As far as everyone was concerned at the time, Xavier's life on earth had actually ended. He was never expected to return.

When cable first showed up in the 90's series. He knew Jean (Madelyn) and Cyclops was his parents. He didn't outright say it but when he was getting info on the X-Men from his computer he skipped over them saying "I know about them" Jean (Madelyn) read his mind briefly and said he's more important than anyone realizes. Cyclops definitely knew who cable was but didn't know it was his son.

Yes, on their honeymoon, Scott and Jean's minds were transported into other bodies, and they spent several years raising Nathan.
    Magneto was recharging his powers.

Bastion is something similar to a reincarnation of Nimrod, a villain that appeared in the old series (Technically is more like a "New Model" of robot but its easier to understand if one thinks in reincarnation terms)

Well wait a minute, the only Magneto clone story I know is the Xorn one, so unless that one wouldn’t count, could the show introduce the Xorn brothers? And even then, Xorn wasn’t even Magneto as that was retconned into being a phase he went through thinking he was Magneto.

In the original series, set in 2055 , Mastermold sent a time-traveling mutant Fitzroy back to 1955 to assassinate Xavier before he began the fight for mutant rights, accompanied by Nimrod. Bishop and his sister Shard found out about the plan and went back to try to stop them, stopping in modern day to recruit some X-men to help, but by the time they time jumped, the time shift had already happened. There were no X-men, only a huge war against mutants and non mutants. They bumped into a married, alternate version of Storm and Wolverine, and convinced them to go back to 1955 to help them. They found a young Xavier on a college campus and they sat at a diner to explain the situation. Bastion's mother worked there as a waitress. A fight broke out because of the racist owner, and Xavier ran away. The team ran after him and encountered Nimrod outside. He was blown to pieces. Xavier was killed in a lab that was rigged to blow. They had to go back and try again. This time, they waited for Fitzroy with Xavier inside the lab. Nimrod showed up again, got blown up again but a piece of him appears to have been left behind. In the memory Jean sees in this episode, a piece of Nimrod bonds with a janitor cleaning up in what looks to be the very same lab in which Nimrod was blown up back in 1955. That janitor is Bastion's father.

There was a miniseries where Scott & Jean were transported to the future & raised Cable. I think Cable only knew them as Red & Slim or something. It was weird & I'm not sure if it's still main continuity or not.

Suzy, there actually was a clone of Magneto that became a major character, and an X-Man, for a time. I don't know if hubby's book would have an entry for him, his name was just Joseph.
To your question just after their wedding Scott and Jean were transported into the future and raised Nathan BUT they inhabited other bodies and called each other "Red" and "Slim". It wasn't until later Cable realized they were the same people.

The war had been raging on, but the people in Charles' path would still see it as a cold war up until that point because now governments have a clear reason to do something openly as opposed to their use of secret agencies. That encounter between Rogue and Steve illustrates that before it was only an unfortunate event, which would be water off their backs soon, like Bastion had planned.

I will say Bastion's origin is a lot less complicated in this version.
Also, I doubt all those people volunteered for what that Prime Sentinel transformation. Especially when Bastion makes note to let us know he didnt tell people everything about the transformation and the people wake up with no memory of what happened.
Its very easy to say "all these people volunteered" when they cant despute it because you erased theyre memory.
I think Bastion specifically targeted and changed Trish against her will after seeing she was the one interviewing the X-Men.

After watching this episode, Bastion quickly became one of my favourite X-Men villains. Bastion is such a great villain in this show, and his plan is genius yet horrific to think about. His being a mix of Nimrod & Master Mold is wild. I love how charismatic he is with his belief that mutants supposedly take away humans' chances of the future, like a twisted, charismatic entrepreneur/salesman pitching his belief onto your average human middle-class guy, spreading more fear and insecurities about mutants to inevitably get them to act on said fears. What's even worse is that there is a level of truth and meta-commentary from his philosophy and how he manipulates blue-collar class racism and the bigotry normal humans create based on their fears. Not to mention the fact that such a big part of the population are secretly Human Sentinel sleeper agents and didn't even know it is SCARY ASF! These things can also reproduce and extend the human population, making the implications even more terrifying.
It's funny how Gyrich teased this fate in the first episode, saying, *"Tolerance is extinction."* This basically means that whenever humanity starts tolerating mutants, humans will inevitably believe they'll go extinct; therefore, they believe that whenever mutants start tolerating humans, mutants need to go extinct, hence what happened in Genosha.
That Wolverine and Nightcrawler fight scene is some of the best Western animations I have ever seen in a comic book animated show like GODDAMN THAT SCENE WAS CLEAN ASF! I loved seeing the first-person perspective of what it's like to teleport with Nightcrawler.
I love how much of an overprotective mom Jean was to Cable, and seeing the Summers family fighting together was cool and cute to watch. Vin Diesel/Dom Torretto would be proud.
It was really surreal watching Dr Cooper become so numb to the death and misery humanity creates to make mutants suffer, ultimately coming to accept that Magneto was right about humans. Magneto also officially declared war on humanity after all the pain and death he witnessed and sending that EMP blast around the world, which no doubt caused hundreds of other deaths, like planes falling out of the sky, reactors losing power, and God knows what else was such a scary yet overpowered move!
BTW, THE CAMEOS IN THIS EPISODE ARE INSANE; WE GOT SPIDERMAN, OMEGA RED, DOCTOR DOOM, BARON ZEMO, SILVER SAMURAI, etc...

    • @jaynecobb8356
      @jaynecobb8356 Месяц назад +1

For the cameos: At the beginning in the Warroom, when Cable told the X-Men about Bastion's Utopia, we saw two more cameos:
      1. Polaris (Lorna Dane) second daughter of Magneto
      2. Rachel Summers (Marvel Girl II, Phoenix II) daughter of Scott and (real) Jean from an alternate Time line.
And at the dinner with Roberto mother, we saw Reverend William Stryker, leader of the anti-mutant militia "Purifiers" at the TV. Stryker was also shown in three X-Men Movies, but there he was with the military, instead of with the church.

Funny thing about Bastion is that if i didn’t know that Theo James voiced Bastion, I would have thought that he voiced Jeff Goldblum or the guy who voice Dr. Hemlock in Bad Batch. Regardless, Bastion RULES and I first heard of Bastion in a cool video game called X-Men: Next Dimension

Cyclops has met Cable before but he didn’t know that he was his son, that’s why he was so harsh. I get that Cyclops is annoying in the movies but you really cannot blame Cyclops here as Cable was just another associate to him.

In the comics, they were actually a Magneto clone Story around that time. Rogue was the one, who found Magneto, who had no memories who he was and went by the Name Joseph. But this was just a clone and the real Magneto returned later. But I doubt, that they would adapt that story, because as far as I know, fans hated that story.
