Our Journey! How did we get here?
In the winter of 2019 we moved in to our self built van full time to begin living, working and travelling Canada. We quickly fell in love with chasing our dreams of adventuring off the beaten path, living off grid and being self sustaining. We drove our van thousands of miles through various countries-Canada, USA, Mexico & Guatemala. All of which we documented here on our channel, be sure to check that out! After many years on the open road we found ourselves 15 acres of remote woods on the East Coast of Canada where we are building a homestead and renovating our fully off the grid cabin. We are diving into this chapter of our lives in no experience, we're so happy we can bring you all along as we learn to do it all with our own two hands. Looks like your Bosch saw is also a sliding compound miter saw. If you laid the siding down flat and leaned the saw on an angle, it would be both easier and safer to make that cut.

Yes, placing siding flat on the saw table is safer and makes more consistently accurate cut. Carry on!
My thoughts exactly. It is also alot easier to cut. How did the saw blade hold up? I found charred wood dulls saws fast.
Both saws are capable of rotating the angle of the blade so you can have the siding flat on the base and cutting the correct angle. But it is definitely looking great. keep up the good work.

Right! It is even hard for me to go to the dentist, last place I ever want to go. Izzy is getting lots of hugs for sure. Always so wonderful to have friends helping. We were lucky to have Max arriving at the right time! Lol🤩🐾

6:41 I'm sure you figure this out later in the video but you shouldn't have to stand the siding up on end with either of those saws. The wood should lay down flat and the head also pivots over to make the angle instead of rotating like you're using it.

Your slider saw will do the same cuts as your Daddy dewalt, just set your saw table at (0) then tilt the saw blade at 22.5 degrees and lay your wood flat on the table and make your cuts,using the sliders of the saw to make your full cuts .
Ladies, FYI, your miter saw has two angle adjustments, allowing you to make straight cuts with the head tilted at the angle you need. Your saw will easily cut your siding as you need. Great job!
Glad Izzy is fine and just the one tooth. It’s always nerve wracking when our dogs have to go under anesthesia. Extra hugs for Izzy and also Bella looking for her sister. Siding looks fabulous!!

Your saw is a compound miter saw. Which means you can lean and turn at the same time the saw you have turn handle and lever at the front can lean the angle you need and be able to cut the wood without having to get a bigger saw.
Your saw will rotate so you can cut the angle from flat. there will be an adjuster knob on the back.

First off, so glad Izzy did well with her tooth extraction - rotten teeth are always better out than in. Sometimes us pup parents get just as anxious as our fur babies when the words surgery and anesthetic are mentioned. Good job Izzy (and Moms)! Second, that siding looks AMAZING on your cabin!! Siding Looks fantastic. Tool Tip, on your miter saw you should have a star lock nut under the sliders at the rear of the machine, ref the DEWALT. This will allow you to tilt the saw so you can make angle cuts and lay your material flat on the saw bed not on the edge like you were doing. This should also allow you to cut wider material that you’re blade is deep? Keep up the good work👍
That siding is exactly what the cabin needed to bring it all together and really make it look and feel like home. You ladies have done a truly amazing job making it a home to be proud of. Not to mention how many of us subscribers are so proud of all you have accomplished with the cabin and life. Izzy is a trooper, give her an extra hug and belly rub for me.

If you truly love your pet, no matter what it is, your going to miss and worry about them when they are not around. For people that say animals don't have feelings, then they need to see this and watch Bella, if that wasn't missing someone you love then I don't know what is. That siding looks awesome, your home will be even warmer and dryer when it's done and a high end finish as well. 👍

Did you try to set the bevel on your saw either to the right or left 22.5 degree bevel position? Yes, It's that easy.

Hi ladies! Great work on the siding! A note for the future: your circular saw has a plate called a Foot. On almost every model, that foot is adjustable, up to 45°. Beats borrowing, or worse, spending a bunch of $$ on a bigger mitre saw

Tip from a sider: use a liiiittle bit more primer for your blueskin (I know, others will say otherwise but it will bond way better) and of course, the roller.
And when cutting any type of siding, never hold it standing up. It JUST might kick back at your, causing injury (have witnessed this).
Otherwise, for newbies, you two crushed it!!

OMG...the cabin looks fabulous. You ladies have a lot to be proud of with everything that you have accomplished. So proud of you. Hey, I was just thinking of something totally unrelated. You ladies must have a couple of wood pallets around the homestead. Put one on the floor of the garage & put a layer of newsprint on it. Next time you go bulk shopping, pick up a 50 pound bag of potatoes, a couple of winter squash, beets, carrots & layer them on top of the newsprint. They will keep beautifully & ensure that you will have food stores for the winter. Also this is a great time of year to start growing mushrooms. Also stock up on bulk nuts but store in your deep freeze. You can then make your own almond, cashew milk. Just spit ballin' a couple ideas.

Love you girls, such an awesome way to live and even more awesome that your doing it yourselves! Not because your women, just in general, a lot of men can’t or wouldn’t do what you do. Your pretty much self taught and brave enough to take on things many of us wouldn’t even try to do. The rewards of doing this is also tremendous, to have a beautiful place to live and to generate income from sharing your journey. It’s so great to see that your understand the importance of caring for your dogs teeth, many people don’t get how it effects the rest of their body and ultimately their lifespan. Animal dental care is very expensive but it’s also very necessary.

Ladies it is called a slide compound miter saw for a reason.😀 Lay the siding flat on the saw and tilt the saw to 22.5 degrees. I prefer 30 degrees but to each their own. No need for a bigger saw although nice to have.
The fact that those boards are in perfect condition after sitting under a tarp for a whole winter sells me on the quality!

Excellent job ladies!!! First siding video on YT where I saw using the screen behind the first row of siding. And I have watched many siding videos. Just completed my shop walls with wood siding and used stainless steel wool for the gaps. All those special fasteners are so expensive!!! Our house siding did not have the barrier and we had mice living behind the siding and up in to the attic. What a mess to clean up but we fixed the problem. Joys of ownership…
