    It goes through one’s mind why couples sometimes vacation separate from each other but you girls are such a great example of trust and freedom and love within a relationship. It’s so important to sometimes have our own experiences, to maintain close friendships and have healthy fun adventures with other people in our lives. It’s also so healthy to have some autonomy and spend time just with ourselves. My husband I have separate guys and girl trips a couple times a year and some people find it so strange, but we find it so rewarding. You ladies have such a rare and beautiful connection and we love celebrating that with you ❤️

    Here I am with some skillsaw safety tips (60 years worth). You are making beautiful progress and I would like to continue seeing that without any accidents. Any time you decide to use the skillsaw, set the depth of cut properly. Only the minimum depth should be used that will complete your cut. There are a few good reasons for that. First and formost is your safety. Use the skillsaw long enough and you will cut yourself. The less blade the is through the cut the smaller the cut to your finger will be. Secondly the blade guard will retract in a more cooperative manner with a minimum cut depth. Lastly is blade life. The cooler the blade runs the longer it will last. With a minimum depth of cut you also get a maximum of cooling. Good luck, keep up the good works and don't stop the beautiful videos.

    Hi. me as a guy from Norway and that you have bought a Jøtul oven from Norway.. So I am reasonably sure that it should be fired in the following way.. Put some larger logs in the oven first, cross once more with slightly thinner logs. Fire up on top of this with thin dry wood.. It will burn longer, and you will save wood:) It is probably in the user manual. Good luck with a really good oven in the winter cold.

    You can get hay bails and put them around the base of the cabin. In the spring you can use them for other uses.

    Kennecott by Hayden Everett

Once the entire chimney stack is warm it warms the whole house. It dries everything out, and just feels so cozy. We also find the fireplace very handy when the power goes out. No need to move your outhouse water barrel. Just add an overflow pipe from top of barrel and add a longer hose to direct water into the woods. Love you guys btw

    Safety tip... sorry if you have already done this but...I saw that you built a box around the propane tank/tanks. Please check with the gasfitter at your supplier to make sure of adequate clearance for prv and that you have enough venting at bottom of box for any leakage.

    For your Pacific Energy Stove, purchase the blower fan. Didn’t see it in the video, but it makes a huge difference in the effectiveness of those stoves. Instead of just radiant heat, the blower forces air over the body of the stove to heat the space much faster. The Pacific Energy wood stoves are designed for minimal clearances, so they have a lot of heat shielding that limits the radiant heat put out compared to other designs. The fan is probably $400-$500 these days, but makes it a completely different system. I service 200+ clients in southern New Brunswick and the Pacific Energy stoves are among the best quality and performant stoves out there.

    • @Vanwives
      @Vanwives  Год назад

      Amazing! Thank you for the valuable information. We will for sure look into them once we have some electricity as I believe they take power?

    • @hurricanedigital
      @hurricanedigital Год назад

      Yes, the Axial Blower Fan that attaches to the back of the stove uses 120v AC power. It also has a thermostat to turn on and off automatically or a manual mode, and a speed knob. I run mine off a EcoFlow Delta Max Solar generator/battery’s. Using the medium fan speed and the thermostat it barely uses any power, between 40-70 Watts and kicks in ever 5-10 minutes depending on how hot your running it. But trust me it makes a huge difference. I’m renovating my house and lots of drafts. If I don’t use the fan it’s enough, but have to run quite hot. With the fan and a low burn rate it heats the place like the tropics.

    • @hurricanedigital
      @hurricanedigital Год назад

      Another trick, depending on which stove model you have, is the little lever to open the ash cleanout hatch, you can use it when starting the fire to allow a lot of extra air in, acts like a blast furnace. Just remember to close it again once the fires going.
      The Pacific Energy is a lifetime stove, fully repairable. And the ICC stainless chimney systems are top tier also. If the installers don’t offer cleaning services, you two would be able to do the yearly maintenance yourselves with a shop vac & a 6” brush and 2-3 rods. But best would be to have a professional inspect atleast after the first season to see if your burning habits are working efficiently.
      Get the whole system hot for the for the first 30-45 minutes to minimize the formation of creosote. Then lower the draft controls for longer burn time once it’s going.

    Love the channel thank you both! Suggestion for your water butt, instead of moving the butt and extending the gutter it may be simpler to set an overflow pipe into the butt at the high water level and let the water flow down a short length of hose pipe into the woods.

    Instead of moving the rain barrel, how about drilling a hole, about 3/4 inch, and put a pipe plastic pipe thread to garden hose adapter on it, hook on a piece of hose, and it will drain away from the building. Mine strains the needles out when it flows over. Periodically in the winter, I have to take it off, give it a shake as the needles plug it a little, and that clears it right out. Really impressed with the work you both have done there. Sure a lot of growth in confidence from when you did your first van build.

    We bought a Jotul #4 cast iron wood stove in 1975 when we were just starting out. It provided warmth (and exercise hauling the wood in) for nearly 50 years! Since we stopped using it a few years ago, we sold it at a garage sale last year. It was a sad day. Wishing you many days of warmth from your new Jotuls!
