Great update. Great place to live. Kiwi living offgrid in oz. Started 4 years ago, never looked back. We started in a bus (middle of winter), moved to shed, now in house. Happiest we have ever been (apart from deer eating out trees but slowly putting them in the freezer). Keep the videos coming.
I totally agree. I have been living off grid for 10 years. We live on 120 acres in SW Colorado in high desert 6500’ elevation. 10 years in and building everything it has taken a toll on me physically. I never saw it coming, and I am a very strong person and never realized the stress I was under. A large bear decided to enter my house three days ago and I have to be honest it pretty much scared me to death. My dog was so scared she ran several mile down the road and didn’t want to come back. We trapped the bear and all is well. Homesteading off grid is not for the faint of heart. I am now bringing in people to live with me and build community.

😍 I'm envious of your offgrid adventure thanks for your sharing and sound advice..I look forward to my own off grid permuculture lifestyle, and being off the hamster wheel.
Good stuff. You have brought along the right attitude to make living off grid a success! We've been off grid for 15 years now, from way back in the days when solar panels were horrendous money. $1650 each for a 250 watt panel... Put them around the corner 100m away so we didn't have to worry about putting so many holes in our watertight roof! Makes them easy to clean too. September is the worst time, with all the pine pollen landing on them. A couple of weeks of pine pollen will drop the output of each string from 30 amps to 20 amps. Wash them off and you're all good to go for another wee while :-)

We always had the idea of living self sufficiently, never got there but still like the idea. We own a small Bach which is our bug out / happy place and we enjoy modifying it to be a little better each year as we can afford it. Yes we have a composting loo and a septic tank, the septic tank only needs emptying every 5 years or more as we dont live there full time. We have power which is not reliable and Ive finally got a wood burner so we don't freeze etc when the power goes off. At 70 I cant see us living there permanently but we know the allure, good on you. The only thing I would say is make sure you have it all finished and running well before you turn 60, it gets real hard after that to do the things you think nothing of now and I get really cold easily.
Hi from Aussie . I feel more and more people are starting to get tired of the matrix and want to unplug and go off grid I think its really cool how you have chosen to invest in living your life and not materialism . Simplicity is freedom. Wishing you all the best ❤
This is an absolutely awesome video! I have spent the past year building on my blank section by placing 2 Podlife cabins joined by a large deck and covered in by an Archgola canopy with ironmesh curtains. All the way along I just had to keep reminding myself it was an adventure and an exploration and boy has the past 12 months flown by. I didn't know what I didn't know and in some ways that has been a blessing because I did it all without a car and carrying home massive bottles of water to my section and having only a portaloo for 5.5 months was a feat in itself. Not sure I'd rush to do it again but at least I know now that if I had to, I could.
We did two winters in a farm shed while building rurally. Kitchen set up looks very familiar only we were doing it vegan 😂. During covid lockdown we only had a blanket for a door and inadvertently adopted a stray cat!
Another kiwi sub here mate! I'm about to move off semi grid down south here in Canterbury, bought a new caravan to start the process with the aim to be completely off grid in 5 years with a permanent cabin. If you ever down here let me know and I'll.shout you some coffee
Living off the grid takes a bit of extra work, but I would live off the grid, no problem. We are putting in an outside shower because we also love showering and bathing outside and would rather shower outside than inside. All the best, you are doing what many people want to do and are doing. I love the bush it's in my blood.
Three of us lived for 3 years in a 6*9 garage, totally off grid. It was heated by a 9kg natural gas heater, it was toasty warm and it also provided the lighting. The bottle lasted a week. To have a shower we heated water and filled a 20L solar shower bag. We didnt know about composting toilets back then and even though we had a long drop because of my phobia of certain flat critters we used a camping toilet stool over a bucket that was emptied into large hole in the ground. The only thing I missed was a vacuum cleaner, oh and a computer. We had no phone service at all. Unfortunately finances dictated we had to sell the property, but I'd do it again in a heart beat. I've learnt so much since then about how to live off grid far more comfortably, not that we were uncomfortable.

We live off the grid up in the Far North. Best decision we ever made. So true about the rats. They have eaten through the chook door And up through the floor of the wood shed. Determined little buggers. They are after the chook pallets. My dog loves hunting the little buggers. Good advice about firewood and the water tanks. Hubby was very quesey about using a compost toilet at first, but tney are perfect. No smell and super easy to use. I have one of those big black compost bins up in the bush line. Great compost matter for the native trees. Personally not keen to use the compost around food we are growing to eat, but thats a personal choise. One thing we have done is build an enclosed vegetable garden. The possums, birds and my dog like to snack, especially the tomatoes. Love your home made clothes rack. Love mine. The only appilances l don’t have is a stove and a clothes dryer. We use a little bench oven and the BBQ. Had a coal range when we lived in town, Man l miss it. Super expensive to buy a new one, but we are currently exploring the options. Most people around us live off the grid, and each of our dwellings are individual and unique to each of us. Do miss the deer, but we have friends who send us up care packagess every now and again 🤣🤣🤣

I like it that you didn't edit out the silly voice you do when you talk to your dog 😊 Regarding the toilet waste, I tip my caravan toilet cassette waste onto the fruit trees and it breaks down super fast. A put some straw on top, and the rain and earth worms compost it quickly.

@@libbysevicke-jones3160 great and cheap land up there
Sounds like bliss.
Good job.
love this video thank you for sharing your tips with us
Looks like the dream to me mate, good on you. Doing something similar myself here in Perth Aus, got the land and going to head out there to live while I build a cabin. Been wanting to do this for years.
Awesome mate, be a different experience in Perth with the heat.
@@LivinglandNZ Yeah, insulation and good aircon, not that hard these days to setup a good enough solar battery setup to do it. Also have a well shaded location for the cabin. Just different challenges to what you have to deal with.
I admire what you do, i could never do it myself, good on you. I hope you live happy. Good luck from the waikato
I have a plan exactly like this for the future, we wish you all the best.
I think you are living the dream. Subscribed fellow NZer currently overseas.👍👍
You will be back
@@LivinglandNZ only away for a year. Home is home.
I have nothing but admiration for what you are doing ! Off Grid here in Australia is what i want to achieve too ! Hope it continues to work out for you👍
Thanks I really appreciate that. All the best with your goals.
Love the vids mate. When that alpine fault goes off you'll be sorted. The rest of us in suburbia will struggle
Awesome buddy ! Great set up .
Excellent. Meat is the right choice. We are looking to get ourselves sorted off grid soon too. Where abouts are you man, we're in Tasman region.
Love Tasman ! I’m in Wellington
This is the first video of yours I've seen. Amazing content and love that you're a fellow carnivore. Aroha from Rangiora 🌼
@@nikkiwatkins4143 Thanks, I Iived near Rangiora for a while
Good on you! ❤ we live in nz and I've wanted to go off grid but with 3 kids I'm like heckkk but also maybe one day ❤
Glad to follow your Channel..I need all the Positivity form all the off-gridder as am on my way to living this life. Plan well they say so that's exactly what am doing at the moment💪😊
Keep it up mate. Great video here in New Zealand as well!
Looking good 👏
I can relate to the comments on negativity, people have done the same to me, I've been here a year and I'm loving it. They don't understand that doing it yourself is learning and building skill, doing it yourself etc.
Haha yeah, I get people offering to come and stay/help, some see it as a personal attack when I say no thanks...I am doing it on my own because I enjoy doing it at my own pace. It isn't work, it's fun.
Great update, Carnivore is becoming very popular!
Love the content bro. I stay in south Auckland and my dream is to be off the grid. Just wanted to say thanks for showing me it’s possible 😁
@@michealbobby9305 anything is possible brother.
Living the dream. Well done mate. Enjoy every moment.
Loving the kiwi content brother. Keep it goin! 😊
I like it that you didn't edit out the silly voice you do when you talk to your dog 😊
Regarding the toilet waste, I tip my caravan toilet cassette waste onto the fruit trees and it breaks down super fast. A put some straw on top, and the rain and earth worms compost it quickly.
Awesome mate🎉 You've got a head start on what people need to be doing. Today I'm watching American sites on tube preparing for WW3. Good luck to you and yours, blessings and light❤
Glad to find your channel mate
