‘Makes My Blood Boil’: Johnny Depp’s Lawyer Reacts to YouTube Mom Ruby Franke’s Child Abuse Case

- Forty-one-year-old RUclips mom Ruby Franke and her business partner, Jodi Hildebrandt, were arrested on August 30 after Franke’s 12-year-old son escaped from Hildebrandt’s home “covered in wounds.” The duo was charged with six counts of aggravated child abuse after it was discovered Franke allegedly tied up two of her children with duct tape and starved them in the Utah home. Famed Johnny Depp attorney Ben Chew said this “heartbreaking” case makes his “blood boil.” The Law&Crime Network’s Jesse Weber discusses the disturbing case with Chew, a partner at Brown Rudnick law firm.

I don't think any of them saw it as abusive, it was their normal. This isn't as clear-cut as 'she is evil and they all did nothing'. This is about blurred lines between what is and what isn't acceptable forms of punishment, and everyone has different opinions on that. Unless he saw her tie up the kids and lock them away, he couldn't have known.

During the 911 call someone else played, in the background, I distinctively heard the boy say, "it was my fault".
Alarm blasted through me, realizing this child had been groomed and desperately needs protecting, from falling into the wrong hands.

It is heart breaking. Some might balk at this, but seeing that and having to make that call could legitimately be traumatic. I would be horrified to imagine what happens behind my neighbors walls, it's the kinda thing that takes away the sense of security we all hope to enjoy.

The thing that sticks out to me in this case is the fact that Franke and Hildebrandt had the nerve to put themselves on a pedestal as an example of good people when they’re really just pathetic people trying to get a sense of power by hurting children.

I have an almost 12 year old son and doing any of these things to him has never even CROSSED my mind. How could a mother starve and harm her children? That 911 call made me sick to my stomach knowing that little boy was suffering from the one person in this world who’s supposed to love and protect him.

She made those claims about her child SAing other children so that the child she dislikes will be alone in the system, not wanted by foster families, and potentially destroy hopes of a normal future. I love that Mr Chew said the childs behavior, if true, is on her and her husband. The depth of her evil is sickening.

Jodi probably brainwashed the mother that this happened. She breaks families apart by false accusations. She tortured her niece and falsely accused her of all kinds of things and made her confess. Ruby was never a good mother but Jody put her over the top.

She's also been said to shame men tons for desiring intimacy in their marriages. Also I know Jodi's children despise her and Jodi thinks that means she raised them right and their just bitter. It is DISGUSTING that the authorities didn't do anything until one of the kids ESCAPED a detaining- showing up to a stranger's house covered in duct tapes and injuries- heartbreaking 😢

Do you know what I hate? That 12 year old was duct taped and probably isolated for who knows how long with no one to stand up for him, nowhere to go. The father was living there when their oldest son had to sleep on a bean bag chair because they took his bed for 6 or 7 months. He was there when the 6 year old was responsible for making their lunch(all of the kids had to) and taking it to school. She was shown laughing about her young son almost crying on the phone because he forgot his lunch and again with the youngest child and her talking about the teacher asking her to bring a lunch. On that one she said I hope no one gives them food. Are you kidding? It is our job to feed, house and clothe our children. Food is a necessity not something you take from a child.
And he was there when she showered/cleaned and blogged for over an hour after he told her they should take their daughter to the ER for having vision problems - and he waited until she was good and ready, instead of taking the child, himself!

I live in Utah, not of the predominant religion. I am concerned that our corrupt attorney general, Sean Reyes might not prosecute this case as it should be. There's this tendency in Utah to handle cases internally within the church. Social Services failed these children all along. It has echoes of that case where the father blew up the house, killing both of the children. Social Services missed red flags in that tragic case.
Her oldest daughter has been saying this for 2 years and no one did a thing. In order to stop child welfare agencies and cops from not investigating properly or dismissing claims, there should be charged criminally !! Enough of this.

It’s horrible to think of what these children have gone through. Imagine all the parents that actually took these two women’s classes or whatever was on their site and started using these forms of punishment in their own homes. There was a Christmas video where the younger children were punished and not given Christmas presents and had to sit and watch the older kids open their presents as punishment and the dad was there in the video and was part of it….he knew what was happening.

The day we all go to Heaven, we all get to open our presents in front of them-while they get nothing. It’s a long-shot, because I have a feeling that God still wouldn’t do that, but I will still try.
She threatened to withold food many times from her Children in her videos. One that was really disturbing to me besides the lunch video was when Little Russel asked her if he could have breakfast and she replied " You don't need Food ". Her husband was also there in many of her videos and backing her up.

Every one of those children have been traumatized, in one way or another, by this woman. I am just in awe at how this could go on that long, without anything being done. But the son that went to neighbors, had to be feeling terrified, and helpless to actually "do" something. He is a brave kid. I pray for those Children.

Wonderful to see Ben Chew again. This vile situation worsened in my mind when I heard reports that the 12 year old boy refused medical treatment for four hours until EMTs convinced him it was okay. He thought he would get in trouble. My heart hurts.
The situation is heartbreaking when you hear about it, but you add the emotion from a grown man calling 911 makes it so much more real and horrific. I think there is so much attention because the public tried for years to get the authorities involved.

My mom would definitely go to prison nowadays with how I was raised. She did all these things and more, along with lots of physical punishment or just a 'whipping girl' when she got mad. My heart hurts horribly for these children 💔😢 Sending them all my love and strength.....🤍🕊

They would pulled out, but I never said much, because they do not know anything about their body anatomy. Not sure at school how that plays out. But usually they don’t get naked, so I can’t say anything about.
