Woodturning a Celtic Knot Bowl using Epoxy Resin
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 14 мар 2019
- This was a pleasure to turn, it was like cutting butter! Woodturning my second Celtic Knot Bowl, but with a live, or natural, edge this time. I use a two inch thick cross cut chunk of Basswood for this bowl, so this turn is 100% end grain… I use a wood router to do some human CNC action, and cut out the pattern by hand.
Once again, I hope you enjoy watching as much as I enjoyed the making of this bowl. I’ll look forward to reading and replying to your comments!

Great skill Rod with an amazing result. I live in Ireland and I, therefore, make you an honorary Irishman for your contribution to Saint Patrick.
His grave is just about 30 minutes drive from where I live.
Semper Fi..
Could there be a higher compliment, I ask? I'm honored my friend, that means the world to me! ...and I hope to see that sight some day. 😊☘️
Absolutely breathtaking, mate. Gorgeous. Plus, I have not met someone who seems so humble as you. I really appreciate you n your work. And if I'm not out of order using the phrase, Semper Fi.
Thank you very much Cathy, I appreciate that. You're not out of order at all! Semper Fi!
Gorgeous Celtic Heart ♥,early, Happy Saint Patrick's Day all the way frm Ireland... 💜 💜 💜 💜...

As always another Awesome piece from the mind of Rod Humphrey !
Thanks very much, Doug! 😊
Well Mr Humphrey you have inspired this 50 yr old grandmother to try something new. Not woodturning but I'm going to try to build some miniature furniture for my dollhouse. To you this may sound silly but to me it's a big big step. I like thousands of others suffer with fibromyalgia and am bed bound a lot of the time so my husband has bought me a tiny little over bed desk ,vice, hand saw and sander so I can stay comfortable while trying something new. Thank you. Thank you so much for being my inspiration xx keep on turning xxx
Hello Terri, That doesn't sound silly to me at all! I'm very happy to have inspired, and I think its wonderful that you're not letting your condition stop you from creating. It sounds like you have a nice work station for your projects. Thank you so much for sharing this with me...you inspire me as well. 😊
Absolutely beautiful! My wife watched with me and remarked that one must have to have a huge amount of talent to produce work as you have done. I agree!
Thanks to you and your wife, I appreciate it!
Appreciate the narrative describing your process while using the router. I find the trial and error portion of learning a new technique to be fascinating. Also, the mind in that focused, meditative state: "...it took several hours; but I didn't notice." Exactly! Well done.
Thank very much! Yes, it's amazing how time can disappear when the mind is totally focused...
The Marines were lucky to have a person with your talents and compassion. Semper Fi, my friend.
Hope the shoulder is ok
Thank you, I appreciate that! Semper Fi
I love Celtic designs probably because of my Celtic heritage. Even my wedding rings are all covered in Celtic designs. This piece is just lovely. You are very talented.
Thanks very much! Your rings must be beautiful! 😊
I really like the shape of this bowl. And the Celtic Knot pattern turned out really cool! 💜
So far this is my favorite one that you have done. Possibly because I'm Scottish and Irish so it means a little more to me. Plus the overall look is beautiful!
Absolutely beautiful! St. Patrick would be proud!!
Wow!! Thank you very much! ☘️
Just WOW again!!
Thanks again, Mark!
you are welcome!
I want to do woodturning later in life but I would not even think of trying a live edge bowl.
Your really inspiring Rod, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
Semper Fi.

Greetings Sir Humphrey,
Absolutely stunning craftsmanship & I love that you left the bark on the rim❣ I also love the artistic heart patterns that the design reveals❣🥇🏆👩🎨
I envision this piece on a plate stand on a windowsill so when the sun comes up the piece will come to life through your resin Celtic design with the cross centered. 👏👏👏👏👏💐 BRAVO❣ Master of the Lathe Maestro Humphrey 👩🎨🌿💐🌿 BRAVO❣❣

Wow! I’m stunned. You are truly a master craftsman. The thinness of the bowl is what wowed me. Celtic designs have always fascinated me, also. Bravo, Rod. Thank you, again! Be blessed. 😊
Thank you very much, Robin! 😊
Outstanding!
Thank you very much!
Your work with the epoxy has really inspired me! Thank you!
Thanks so much James, I love to hear that!
I knew you'd love the basswood when you said that was the type of wood you were using on this bowl. Carvers love it. Its grain is very fine, so that's what makes it so easy to work, why you're not getting shavings on this bowl. Also, tools stay sharper longer, doesn't wear them down. Plus it takes finishes very well. Anyway, great project as always. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks very much! I've used it quite a bit for carving, I love the stuff, but this was my fisrt lathe experiment with it... I see more of it in my future...
Great job. I thoroughly enjoyed watching you create this peice. Thanx brother
