    Bottom line: Blender has all the tools, that are necessary for VFX and much more. Though they are nowhere as sophisticated and perfect as those provided by dedicated pieces of software and plugins for them. But come on, three years back nobody even considered Blender as a replacement for the traditional apps - now it is one of the players on the CG market. If that came to pass within a couple of years, just imagine how good its VFX tools will become in 2020-2021!!

      scurvofpcp I think that’s a pitfall to just pump out new features that you necessarily don’t need vs improving tools that have proven to be effective. There is no need to innovate every release. Then you just have new features that are subpar

      @@educate3d To an extent, it depends on how full featured your application already is. Which most of the paid ones have slowed down. Now ideally they would be spending some more $$$ on bugfixes but yeah.
      Still, blender right now is in a situation where it is well positioned to catch up over the next few years. Honestly, and this is just my perspective. I would like to see it get a little love for texturing workflows, a pass on the 2d editors and then hit up the video editing and vfx workflows hard.

    It means big overhead costs but in this way the studios were able to be ahead of other studios.
    Times have changed and now the competitors have the same VFX specialities. It could improve a lot if new VFX studios will work with Blender and develop their tools on that so everyone can benefit.

      @@z_tiger311 For freelancers and people starting out in VFX, Blender is perfect and can do pretty much anything the leading industry-standard programs can do (with varying degrees of success, of course.) Pretty much the only things about it that are sub-par are its unbiased rendering engine and particle systems, but since it's open source, it can be tweaked and have add-ons to do basically anything any other piece of software can do. It'll be a while before it's fully integrated into higher end production pipelines, but it's already being looked into. Eevee is incredible for previsualization, the compositor is relatively powerful, and its modeling workflow is incredibly streamlined - I actually switched from a Maya/Substance workflow to exclusively Blender for renders (obviously i still use substance for game objects considering blender's texture creation tools aren't great, but i use procedural materials for rendering) so it's definitely gotten to the point where it outpaces some industry-standard programs

      Blender is ready. Why you talk like that ? Because it's better then Maya and 3D Studio Max ? Because, many pro artist moved from Maya and 3DS Max to Blender, and big studios like UbiSoft from Maya to Blender, Tanget Animation from Maya to Blender, soon Khara Studio from 3DS Max to Blender and soon will be more ? Why you not admit that Blender is shoulder by shoulder with Maya and 3DS Max, and can do much more. You could always buy 3DS Max or Maya if you are crazy..

    • @nickstair6355
      @nickstair6355 4 года назад +3

      I mean modeling is modeling. Your just laying down vertices, lines, and faces. Blender does it very well and the only major difference is interface and possibly speed of production. Maya and 3ds max I believe have some slightly better tools included, but really there isn't much to compare if we're just looking at modeling.

    • @swapnanilnag3713
      @swapnanilnag3713 4 года назад +1

      Yeah !!! You are absolutely right ! But I think we can not compare the whole software like that because every software has its own recognisation in one thing !!!
      Like Maya for animation ...
      Max for arch viz ...
      Like that if we are comparing two softwares then we are actually comparing it with one or another aspect !!!
      So if we compare blender's dynamics with the beast Houdini or Texturing with substance painter or compositing with nuke then it will be a very stubidity , because these are extra that blender is giving this things in a 3d package ... We don't expect that much things from a core 3D software !!!
      So if we compare like that then all that time we are comparing its every espect with the best software in the industry !!!
      Even max is not close to Maya in animation tools .
      So the main important things for a 3d artist like modelling , uv unrapping or lighting should be compared with max or Maya ...

    • @nickstair6355
      @nickstair6355 4 года назад +1

      I think he did an okay job comparing its capabilities. If your software is going to have certain features, (let's say sculpting) and the only other comparable thing out there is essentially Zbrush, it only makes to put them up against each other.
      If you want there are other people who out there who have compared blender to the other kings of 3d software. I would recommend the FlippedNormals channel. They go into great detail about the differences through their experience in the industry.

      I don't think that blender is at the level of After Effects, so I go with AE

    • @RyanMarice
      @RyanMarice 4 года назад +1

      I've used blender over AE in the past because it was so much faster (with the exception of the render). The only thing that would sometimes give AE a leg up were the plugins. I couldn't think of anything that AE could do that blender couldn't.
      Some things I had to fake in AE, I could just do in blender because it is actually a 3D package. Without blenders text addons, AE would be definitively be better with text and motion graphics.
      I was taught AE at a university known for vfx. I was self taught blender.

    Wenn i went to School they told us Maya was the Industrie Standart. Caus Disney Pixar was useing it.
    On the Job Market everyone was useing 3dMax and ZBrush was up and comeing.
    Studios dont got time to teach you or are willing to pay for your teaching.
    They just want cheap Labor with as little contractual obligation for them.

    It's interesting how terms like "professional", "industry standard", etc. are used to paper over habit while not revealing real reasons why a particular software may be preferred.

    • @ysomadbeats
      @ysomadbeats 4 года назад +9

      Well if you are in the 3d industry you should know why blender(for the time being) will never be used primarily by studios because of the following reasons:
      - Blender does not offer anything feature-wise over the current industry standard
      - Training their studio artists to use blender Is relatively expensive as well as potentially decreasing productivity for a short period of time.(Paying Wages to artists who are learning software and not producing content at their usual rate is a very dumb business move)
      - Studios generally have pretty strict pipelines that involve software that has had inhouse plugins and tools already developed for them.(Paying Software Engineers money to develop tools for blender that are already available for 3ds max or Maya is once again a dumb business move)
      There are a multitude of other reasons as to why blender may never in the near future be the industry standard. However, this doesn't mean there aren't artists out there at studios that don't use blender for aspects of their workflows, however, when we talk about the industry standard, we are referring to the most widely used software. Houdini is probably the industry standard for vfx, simulations and algorithmic/procedural modeling, Houdin is not about making models, its about building tools to help you make models. Blender hopefully will be on par with houdini soon however when blender releases its 'everything nodes' update, that's when I think blender will really start making waves.

      Studios can have their software specific pipeline and they don't care about your preferences. That is meaning of "industry standarts".

  • @gandalfdergraue8444
    @gandalfdergraue8444 4 года назад +2

    Let's break it down to this: Yes, you can use blender for a limited VFX work... You even could copy scenes of big triple digits million budget movies, but you wouldn't get the same quality.. because: blender is a free software, while big VFX companies use entirely different programs.. if you, as mentioned, consider their budget of multiple hundreds of millions of dollars.. if you ain't got the big dollars laying around and do stuff for fun, blender is your way to go..

    that fact that Blender can do all stages of the production puts other 3D PAID software to shame, remember how Autodesk never brought back Maya Live but offers corny basic tools like Matchmove and Composite, which all use to be Maya Live and Autodesk Toxik, or how 3DS Max use to have Combustion for post production... those tools don't exist no more
