    If you have a shut off meter outside your property it would be best to exit leaving the door open and turn off the exterior shut-off valve then call for assistance from outside. of course, evacuate everyone from the building. At night if others are sleeping and the gas sent is very high then I would advise you turn off the exterior shut-off , followed by your exterior breaker to the home (if equipped, and zero smell of gas in that area ) then wake and evacuate the others in the house. Yes, it is dark but it would be safer, awakening people from sleep, the first thing they will try to do is turn on the bedroom light if it is off, Kaboom.

    You would probably pass out from the high gas concentration before the lighter would become dangerous, unless you were dealing with propane. Natural gas is lighter than air, small leaks don’t pose a significant risk.

    I had a slight smell of gas around my dryer. My local utility sent a tech and quickly found a very small leak from the flex line compression fitting. Used a sniffer and then soap solution to confirm it. He took the fitting off, checked it, put it back. Leak fixed. No more gas smell. Fitting was installed 4 years ago and I suspect vibration caused the nut to back off.

    im in the uk and had a boiler fitted with a loose gas supply to the boiler. i was told by several inspectors that the smell i was getting was normal after a new boiler. after sometime of getting the same smell i called the emergency services who came an didnt do the proper tests on the boiler and therefore didnt find the leak. the emergency services were called out again and the leak was found at the boiler but in locking the supply off at the meter the engineer created another leak and left the property. i see this as a fault with both the installer and the emergency services and im trying to get compensation. would you have advise on where to start first

    Is an electronic gas detector safe , doesn't it create a spark around a possible gas leak area? Thanks !

      @PROSDIY  3 года назад +4

      Nope, they are designed for gas leak detection and pass safety test prior to being sold.

      Anywhere between 5-10% ratio of gas and you've got yourself an explosive mixture. Mercaptan is the additive in natural gas which makes it stink of rotten eggs. You can generally smell a gas leak. It's carbon monoxide you need to be wary of. You can't smell or detect it. It can cause headaches, dizziness, breathlessness and even death. CO is a silent killer, natural gas an cause death. But generally you'll be able to smell gas leaks.
      Just to point out gas sniffers are to be set for calibration in fresh air, between 20.6-20.9% lean O².

      @@rayc1503 thanks for the info , I think cause of dead in several cases in Houston , Texas during the winter storm was natural gas mishaps, fire or CO. We had to leave the fire place for manys,days and nights on , because the shut off valve broke on us right on time of the disaster, til some one came and replace the valve charged $200 without cleaning up theirs mess ,damaging the iron curtain, leaving the door to the valve loose.Thanks God it could have been much more expensive !Thanks again !

    Anybody else get a panic attack when he said never use a flame to check for leaks as he puts a lit grill lighter directly to the leaking connection in the pipe? Like why tf would he attempt that just to make a point that could have easily blown up in his face?

    • @slipperyslope5364
      @slipperyslope5364 Год назад +4

      Why would it blow up, he is the professional. He probably put the leak there in the first place or it was already known. If you totally vented the area before, it is safe to turn on the gas for a known small leak as you can turn the gas on quickly ignite it before it builds up in the area. A leak is just a stove top burner, it will ignite and burn the same way. The problem comes in if the flame remains there uncheck especially if there is no protection against the flame reaching the source of gas, as in the flame travelling down the pipe to reach the reservoir of gas (tank). Then you will get a boom.

    But how do you fix the leak?

    • @LogosFarm
      @LogosFarm 7 месяцев назад

      You have to either know how to turn off the main gas line, the “drain” gas lines, and know how to replace the line. One of the few trades I believe is always best to hire out for the actual repair, as a small mess up can lead to a big boom.

    Never use dishwashing soap/water because they will corrode the fittings !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • @rayc1503
      @rayc1503 3 года назад +3

      Bro leak direction fluid is basically a mix of water glycerine and minuscule amount of unfragranced soap. Even Ldf can corrode gas fitting especially mild CSP. In all cases it needs to be wiped of with a dry cloth or tissue.

      As long as you dry it, it shouldn't be corrosive.

    I've reconnected the new line I bought like 7 times with different types of sealants and my meter still detects a leak from the line to stove connection point. I have no idea what to do, I've done everything these videos recommend, but I still have the meter detecting a leak, and I can smell a leak after leaving the gas on for a while. I even bought a new line and swapped out the adapters that go from the line to the stove, nothing... still a leak. Anyone know what to do in that situation?
