- I am nearing the end of the left side reconstruction. Now it is just some cosmetics left to do. I will typically make minor alterations from time to time. I will start on a small layout using the train set my wife got me for Christmas. Also I have the N scale layout to do. I will also create some layout to build and sell. I usually do at least 1 a year and sometimes 2. Stay tuned. I will also be loading several how videos also.

The River is so awesome 👍 great work..for a small little town the buildings look good 👍 lights definitely street and buildings would look good 👍,joe
Actually the layout in undergoing a transition. The river is still part of it though. Thanks
This is a great looking layout. Love the river, the town. Th e recent changes and additions enhance the layout, great job
Glad you like it! Thanks
While driving along I-49 today I saw the superintendent has decided to replace ties along one of the mains here. New ties have been laid out along the tracks. Small stacks of 3 to 5 ties every so often with the occasional single tie. It makes for an interesting detail. Great looking layout.
Yes it does. I see that scene her allot to. Thanks!
Yeah mate. Yes I like it.!! Especially when I see another modeler modeling the Great Northern to the B. N. Yeah im modeling the G. N. to B. N. era from late 1940s to the early 1990s. In N scale. Yeah John all the best for you mate from an Aussie. bj. N scaler.!
Cool 👍 Thanks
Awesome...pond sounds great.. thanks for sharing and keep up the great work.. Lance
Thanks! Will do!
Nice clean and tidy looking
Thanks 👍
John's Trains, very nice layout. Excellent execution.
Thank you very much!
I love the scenery and the river
I agree with you I’m not sure you could improve it
but don’t we all keep thinking about how we would change what we’ve already done
I think about changes constantly. I have to tell myself let it go. But I have never kept a layout the same for more than a year or two without some or total modifications. That is why I build a layout to sell every year. It helps my modeling craving.
Very nice layout👍👍
Thanks.
It is looking stunning good this layout 😀😀
And I am really impressed and amazed with the timeframe you have managed to build this layout.
Thanks so much! 😊 I do seem to pressure myself to get things done.
Looking good. I like your idea of the pond in the front of the layout.
Thanks 👍
I like that you have two rails not three! All trains should have two rails !
Thank you for commenting on my video just to let you know this particular layout now has been completely converted to another type of layout. If you look at my newer videos, you’ll see how it looks now I believe it’s much better than this so check it out when you have time thanks.
Las Vegas, NV has a cement factory somewhat close to its downtown area. Your layout is beautiful.
Thanks! I will have to look at that sometime.
Very cool layout. I wish I had room for trains, but trucks take up all of my space.
It does take alot of room. I am going to start to build a better display area for models. Thanks
I just love this layout. Very clean.
Thanks so much!
Wow john the added trees and weeds look great. I’ll have to get some of the weeds. I like the pond idea. Or even a drainage ditch with culverts could be neat there. Anyhow I have enjoyed following along on this build. Thanks for sharing with us. David
Thank you for watching and sending comments.
@@JohnsRailroad you’re welcome. Time for a train ride through that tunnel and scenery
Very good quality work I love the quality of your work keep it up
Thank you very much!
I’m so jealous you have a dash 8 I would love one! In south Texas BNSF services a cement plant in a little railroad town!
I think they are available online still. I have three of them. Been collecting a long time.
WOW THAT IS AWESOME LAYOUT.
Thank you! I appreciate it.
Man don't change anything it's beautiful!!! Just enjoy it!
Thanks I appreciate it.
This is a perfect and practical sized layout, not micro so you can run longer trains, and not so big you spend your whole life working on it
Yes, that size room and layout works very well for me. Easy to manage. Not too much to manipulate if needed. It does have a few restrictions though. Thanks.
Very nice! I love your bridge area.
Thanks!
Adding a water feature in that area is really gonna make it stand out....you do a fantastic job with your scenery
Thanks. I will be starting that soon. Not for sure when but soon.
Nice, the layout is coming together!
I think so too! Thanks
Your layout is outstanding John! Sometime on my past layouts I just needed to run the trains for a while to gain further inspiration on scenery & buildings. I think a small town grain & feed business might go well at the current concrete building. We had a grain & feed business in my Central Valley California home town that received 2 to 5 hopper cars a week on the ATSF in the 70s & 80s.
Many thanks! That sounds good. I will look into a grain and feed mill or something. All the input is good.
Very nice looking layout! Great detail.
Thank you very much!
I agree the other side looks amazing but also at the same time making the river and bridge wider would look great Sir!! The little pond will look great there! Can't wait to see the new way you found to make the trees! Overall one of the best little layouts I have ever seen!! I have a question for you Sir??? What kind of glue do you use to hold the foam down to the board??? I have my tables up and ready to put down foam and many people have given me many choices of what to use! Really would like to know what you recommend?? Thank you!! One of your "students" and biggest fans!! Lol..........
Thanks you! My foam is only slightly tacked to the wood frame using white glue like Elmers or I used some called Titebond from my local hardware store but all mostly the same. I just put a small bead of it every 2 feet or so and put weight on it. Also the brown masonite trim helps hold it to.
@@JohnsRailroad Thank you Sir...Thats what I will use!! I appreciate you answering me!!
No problem!
Beautiful scenic work you've done there. - I've got to ask, what was your technique for the river feature under the bridge ? Did you use available products to achieve that reflective water on the river ? - It looks great !
Thank you! 1st I used Woodland Scenics (Moss green undercoat) for the water bed color. 2nd I used Woodland Scenics (Murky) tint for the water color. 3rd the water is (Envirotex) 2 part Epoxy tinted using the murky tint. Watch the attached video link showing how I mix it the whole combo. Pouring and mixing studio.ruclips.net/user/videopIDTVp8r6TU/edit.
Just Subscribed because your layout looks fantastic. I have a 4x8 and run off for a switching yard. Keep up all the good work. Looking to watch more of your vedio's.
Thanks Mike. I have had many 4x8 layouts. That is a good size. I am helping a friend lay one out.
This is first time I’ve seen your entire layout. Beautiful! It’s so neat, clean, and crisp looking. ‘Crisp’ might sound like an odd word but that’s my impression. I love the bridge just the way it is. Personally, I think it would be too big if you doubled it. But ‘it’s your railroad’. I’ll have to look at some of your older videos. 👍👍👍
Yes you could be right about the bridge length. All thing to consider for the future. But for now I will just finish up what I have and enjoy it. I get crisp. I do pride myself on clean layout and important a clean work area. It displays better that way. Thanks you very much.
that scenery is really poppin now with all the added trees! a pond would be nice to accentuate that long stretch of grass and trees.
I think it will to. Thanks!
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL layout! Thanks so much for sharing it with us!
As for the bridge, just leave it the way it is, it looks amazing! I'm impressed anyway!
But that city scene really could use some help! Invest your time in your city, as that will pay the biggest dividends. As for the rest, it looks great the way it is. I wish I had your skills and abilities, as you are a genius when it comes to scenery.
Yes I have said in my videos the city was not permanent fixture as it stands. That is why no sidewalks, lights and signs. In most of my builds the city was only in the back of the scene. I do agree with you it is week. I really enjoy scenery the best. Thanks for the comment.
Great layout.
Thanks so much!
Wow, great detail on your layout. I agree that the concrete plant doesn't look right, but a grain elevator would really be nice for a small town.
I have many videos showing different buildings including a grain elevator. FYI this layout is in a major redo currently. The town was not permanent. Thanks for watching!
Your layout is inspirational. I need to get going on my ‘Plywood Central’...
It is tough getting started for me but once I start my wife says I get obsessed to get it done. Thanks for the compliment!
Layout is looking awesome.
Glad you think so! Thanks!
Looking great. Keep up the good work.
Thanks 👍
Looking great.
Thanks!
You’re doing a great job on building a railroad
Thank You! it is a great hobby!
Enjoy the video very much thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it! I am loading a video with an update tonight!. Thank you!
Nice work John, neat and clean, I really like the one end with the building cut into the hill adjacent to the tunnel portal. Can you tell me what building kit that is? Do you plan to paint the fascia? I think a dark charcoal colored fascia would really make the scenery pop. Thanks for posting! Regards, VinnyD
I made that building front from a box of old broken buildings I bought at a flea market. I do not know the mfg of it.
I will flip it over next time in the room and see if it says anything on it. Yes I did always pland to paint the brown trim just was waiting until I had it all the way I wanted it to be first. That could be a while. Just not sure yet. Thanks
Hi John
Don't get of your switch or track you can use it in scrap scenes or I would be interested if you just trash it
Thanks for sharing
Rodney
Check back with me from time to time. I do toss some of it. Thanks
John the layout looks great. I've tried to find LED strip lights but, most of the stuff I get is junk (not bright enough, color not right). What lights are you using?
I used Patriot 16ft LED tape lights. They are not super bright but they work for me. They have been up for almost a year. Many hours of use so far trouble free. FYI I have updated they layout since this video.
I want to see some Trains run! 😎
I do run them everyday. I will make some updated run by videos.
Looks great 😊.
The brown fascia is this masonite ?
Help appreciated
TIA.
Yes it is. I am going to paint it at some point. Still making changes.
I stumbled upon this video again. Where did you get that industrial/factory building (you can see it at 1:59 in the back) from?
Those are just 2 Walthers warehouse building background flats. There are tons of those on ebay or on the Walthers website. Thanks
I used dream of A giant lay out , Simple is the Best.
Thank you! Its a great hobby.
beautiful job bravo.my question is are all your buildings in HO or is it O scale
Thank you! It is all HO.
A very nice layout and video. I have plans to expand my own HO scale layout, though I think I'll be modeling more of a steam-era mountain town, and will likely stick with a 10 x 6 footprint.
Sounds good. I will check it out when it is done if online. Thanks
@@JohnsRailroad You're quite welcome :). I will definitely post a video of my layout once it is done, though that may be a while as I have yet to get the benchwork completed.
Sounds good.
Awesome!!!!
Thanks!!
Very nice layout is the lower area connected to the upper part and if so how is it connected
No the lower portion is not connected. I just made it for rail parking or staging. Thanks
Amazing scenery, Are the two decks connected in some way?
No not at this time. It was never intended to do t deck just something gave me a whim to do it. Maybe in the future. For me I like the scenery part of building the best. Thanks you for watching Kyle.
That's awsome, any chance you want to give up your track plan? Lol looks good 👍
I will look to see what I have for this one. I have a few oringinal plans but I did modify it some. Stay tuned for more info.
Do you have a layout diagram with lift out section? I would like to see the whole thing
This one has dramatically changed since this video. It was not going as I hoped so I change it. It is not even close to being finished. You can see it in my newer videos.
Looks great! I’m new here so I’m gonna ask... how do you get to your lower level? Or is that separate?
Welcome to my channel. Actually it is separate. I have a video on my channel explaining what and why I made that section. Here is a link. ruclips.net/video/MCswj-aEXXM/видео.html. There is a part 2 right after it.
Thanks for asking.
@@JohnsRailroad I’ll have to check it out! Glad to be here, John. Keep up the good work
Will do. Thanks!
Yeah, the cement factory blocks a lot...
Yes it does. It needs to be back further
Really nice work nonetheless!
do you have a track plan of this please?
I will look but I think I just added as I went along. I think I have arial views of it though. I will check but, I do not have this layout anymore.
