The first proper gameplay footage of Backyard Hockey to ever meet RUclips. It's amazing how little footage of this game exists on RUclips, even if you include the improper kind. This is a video of me playing through a single game. Notice that, although Atari is never mentioned anywhere in this game, it plays a lot more like an Atari-made game. Not only does it use the same exact engine as the two tried Jr. Adventures by them, but it's also made by a lot of the same staff. That doesn't mean the game is bad though; it's actually pretty good. Since this game has so little footage, I decided not to take one of the unlockable rinks. This is the last Backyard game I have right now. So, since I have taken care of the Backyard games I ordered, regular uploads will now resume.
This is a decently enjoyable game. It's not one of the better games in the series, but it's still worth your while. The addition of many unlockables was a nice touch, and it's something the older games failed to do. I also liked the Season Mode in this game, though I enjoyed it a little more, since some of the players have names that are in-jokes to the developers (like Tom Witte and Geoff Kirk). It's not the greatest game, but it's still fairly enjoyable. The one thing I dislike is the fact that stamina runs down at the same speed regardless of what you're doing - you could be standing still and lose the same amount in one period if you were playing as aggressively as possible.
By the way, I should note that I got this game in its original box. The huge box, not the small one used after the mid-2000s.

I played the shit outta this game in 03-04. I was 7 or 8 and got it as an Easter present. Good memories.
This game brings back memories, I used to have it on my computer and won the Clanky Cup (or whatever it's called) as the LA Kings.

If you pick the create a player guy and make his name "lemon boy" it will give you a player with maxed out attributes
This is pretty forgivable after the 2007-2010 versions. I remember playing Backyard Baseball 2005 once and hated it. Then I saw those versions. Now I actually think it's one of the best games in the series.
Annie Frazier was always one of my stars alongside Modano and Jagr. My goalie was always Brodeur and they were unbeatable.
Considering the company's track record has been nothing but FPS games, I'm pretty sure if they're going to do anything with the franchise they'll just make it even worse.

I really enjoyed this game, especially for the little easter eggs that await when you type in the names in the special thanks of the credits.
It was bought by a company nobody has even heard of before (Epic Gear LLC). Thankfully they lost the major sports licenses, so they'll have to start from scratch, meaning they can't just toss a horrible game together and expect it to sell.

Hey, I'm with you. I always used pro players when I play Backyard Sports. Except with Maria Luna in Hockey 2005.

I love this game. I even have the original disk. I usually choose all the pros when I play and my favorite character is Billyjean Blackwood

I will openly admit I enjoyed this game more than the Soccer and Basketball titles :P

ahhh Kenny, he was always cool to me. And I was PISSED he was not in Backyard Skateboarding (along with several other favorites of mine). But him especially as I wanted to see a wheelchair bound kid doing all sorts of crazy skateboarding tricks......what?

@JocquesDavashieOP Yes, I did. He's one of my favorite Backyard characters, and I almost always pick him, even in the games where he has low stats. The only exception would be Basketball, since you only get five slots.

I have the original CD, but have a Mac. How can I get it to work?(Like which emulator would I need to get it to work?
NOTE: This is the first ever Humongous game to not use the SCUMM engine. It instead runs on Atari's YAGA engine, with powerful results, smooth graphics and all of that stuff.
It wasn't Atari that made it, it was still Humongous.

And yes, the VAs were an improvement after Baseball '03 and Soccer '04. In those two, they changed the voices, but they were really grating and annoying.

Also, honestly, this was a whole lot better than the last two Backyard games we got prior to this (Baseball 03 and Soccer 04). I really disagree that this was the beginning of the downturn.
infogrames is great, "robot arena 2 build bots fight bots" was one of there best
+the burning toast monster of uranus No, Infogrames COMPLETELY screwed Humongous over. They had way too much fear that anything new would not sell, forcing a lot of projects to get cancelled (for instance, they forced them to shelf one product because they had no faith in a game with a female protagonist), then demanding more games in shorter periods of time, this in SPITE of the declining work force and having already laid off half the employees, and let's not even get started on how they completely screwed over Moonbase Commander from getting any of the publicity it should have gotten.

Yeah, I know, Achmed's not very good in this game, but I he's my favorite Backyard Kid so I like to pick him for that reason. It's silly, but come on, it's a kid's game, why take it so seriously?

Actually, Atari IS mentioned in the game. Atari of today is not the old Atari as in 2600, it's actually a rebranded Infogrames. Still, I'm surprised how much I liked this game despite it being completely different than the old games, but this is really the game that I thought everything changed. The games after BYH were terrible, and the entire sports series is now just a Madden/2K Sports Clone. None of the characters are the same.
