- My god...I was really bad at this.
It's not my best run in this game, but I'm happy you guys are enjoying what I have to show here. It's great how this video is making it's rounds and is bringing people back to their childhoods.
So...Yeah this is the original Backyard Baseball from 1997. I haven't played this in so long.
This version of the game has no pros, no stat increase, just a straight-forward sports game that people might have growing up with a PC in the late 90s early 2000s.
If you want to see some action other than a really dull waiting game with the ties, wait until the 4th or 5th inning. That's where it's starts to get really interesting.

Crazyball is my absolute favorite pitch. That laugh that comes with it is unbeatable.

Not all the players would show up on the bench every time you fired up the game. I used to have to restart all the time when Pete and Pablo weren't there.

I played the shit out of this game! While I played all the ones with the pro players, this game was always my favorite. It was the first, and I enjoyed the customization that came with having random kids and me picking what position they should play.

Angela Delvecchio is a much better pitcher than Kenny. I remember her being much more accurate. Right hooks to the inside corner all day. Pablo and Angela were usually my first two picks.
Hahaha thats exactly why I picked her. I used to throw 1 hitters with her just living on the corners like Greg Maddux

I can't play with Mikey. He's way too slow to run the bases or to field. I mean he's basically just a home run or, you're out kinda player. I'm also always use Angela as my starting pitcher and Pablo as my reliever even though Angela is hardly a hitter. What I noticed about this game is that when I play hard mode I can't hit at all unless I'm at an open stance for some reason, but if I am at an open stance, I will score like 20 runs in a game. I don't know why, but it's like that for me.

your computer probably won't be able to play this game because the disk is outdated. think you need to download a program in order to play it

I was playing this just the other day. I can't believe I got this CD-ROM out of a cereal box! Anyway, the best overall player is Pablo Sanchez. He's so good, he became the mascot of the whole BYB series. I also get Achmed because he's a good hitter. Angela Delvecchio is the best pitcher in the game, but unfortunately, she sucks at running. Kenny is pretty solid also. The worst player hands down Jorge. He's so mediocre at everything, and he's a such a snob. He walks on the ball field with his nose so far in the air, he'd need a 10-foot pole just to pick it! What an ass.

When you say, “no stat increase,” do you mean that none of the players get their stats boosted by birthdays, playing at certain fields, team colors, etc.?
As far as I'm aware, that isn't in the original Baseball.
The stat increase might be in the original when it comes to having specific players on your team like with the Khan brothers or the Webber twins since the game does hint to picking both of them on a team at specific points, but it's pretty hidden and I haven't noticed any noticable differences from the times I played.
Baseball 2001 was the first to introduce that feature iirc.
I want to buy an older computer from like 2005-2006 to play this again, but I'm 17 and have like $200... I have the disc, but it's useless.
Why not try finding an external download online? Otherwise, there's also ScummVM that only needs the .HE1 to .HE9 files.
